(Old) April Showers bringing May Flowers in the MMP

Did a bit of grocery shopping this morning after a decent night’s sleep. Got in a bit of exercise on the cross-trainer. Our latest maintenance guy quit for a better job. Luckily, they found someone else very quickly. They also finally found a new driver for the van, which is good. I hope he is better and lasts longer than the previous failure.

Looks like lamb chops for dinner, with a baked spud and salad. The wife loves her lamb. A little unsettled weather this week as we catch the trailing edge of the storms further south. My arthritic thumb is telling me all about it.

Today is the last day of my paschal break. Back to the office tomorrow.

Don’t know if they will recognize me, new haircut and glasses. My prescription sunglasses are ready for pick up, I’ll get them tomorrow. For eyes is just a block away from the office.

Koritza was a good girl at her vet visit yesterday. She is 16 and is starting to miss or nearly miss her leaps. Her full name is koritza the klimber and she needs those climbing skills to get around lager.

We are trying solensia, she had her first shot yesterday. They also gave her a mani-pedi.

Did you feel the disturbance in The Force? I dusted!

The hospice aide is enroute to help MIL shower. I have 3 cukes to cut up for salad. MIL requested omelettes for supper, do FCD will cookbecause I have yet to make an omelet that folds properly. I end up with scrambled eggs full of stuff.

Aide just arrived.

Cinco de Mayo is off.

Since Cinco de Mayo was on Sunday, my cow-orker who was born in Mexico was going to host a Cinco de Mayo luncheon here at the orifice today. Since a lot of people aren’t here, she cancelled it. I was going to heat up some TJ’s beef birria, and I brought in a package of low-carb tortillas. Cinco de Mayo has been rescheduled to the 21st.

Instead, today, since the boss is gone to England for a couple of weeks, those of us who are here are going to go to a local Mexican restaurant and let the company pay for it.

You are so right!

In my case it’s just one cat, but she is a purebred Siamese so that ups the attitude and mischief-making by at least double, so one is more than enough.

I live in a 140 year old house with huge heating grates in the floors~which make fascinating echoing noises when something dainty and tinkling is hockey batted down through, bouncing down sheet metal ductwork. Countless earrings, rings, coins, keys are no doubt entombed within, never to be seen again.

Indeed we are. Wait til you all hear about my morning yesterday.

And remember, all the while you’re doing that, we are here with shoulders to lean on, hands to hold, arms poised to hug.

It was rumors before, but I actually got a call from the director of the museum, I’m building a walkable model of a boat over the next 6-ish months. And the timing works out well, too, I’ll be done with the school plays right around the time the museum gets money from the foundation funding it.

flyboy Hmmm, Cinco de Mayo on the 21st? Sounds wrong. At least the mice got to play while the boss was away.

FCM Dusting, now there’s a verb I haven’t used in a while. Must get to that, myself. The antique little red wagon that holds tchotchkes is looking a bit dusty.

dicey Open faced pot pie seems like a good idea to me. Hope it turned out well.

Well, she’s an actual Mexican so I’m not going to second-guess her! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

She ordered a Fiesta Platter from the restaurant’s catering menu. Unfortunately, it comprises mini chimichangas, quesadillas, flautas, and two kinds of taquitos. She also got refried beans and Spanish rice. So… Nothing I can eat! I heated up one container of the TJ’s beef birria (my cow-orker said it was good and tasted authentic – and then, ‘Ooh! It’s spicy too!’) and made three small burritos on the low-carb tortillas I’d brought in, plus sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce that came with the Fiesta Platter. I had a 20-ounce Monster Ultra Zero to drink. (Already had my almost 60 ounces of coffee this morning.)

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it lives until it gets dirty again. I am appalled that laundry is not self-cleanin’. Sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ got accomplished and we had an early sup. Thus are things at da cave.

RealFish one step at a time is a good thing. Do what needs doin’ as you feel able to do so.

Flyboy havin’ irk pay for your N.O.L. sounds like a good way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. That sounds like enough caffeine in your system to give you the energy to walk the hunnert plus miles home.

VanGo HUZZAH! Glad the museum will have the money.

Great news, VanGo. Sounds like steady work (and a steady paycheck) for you.

flyboy, food on the bosses tab…sounds like a celebration to me!

In about 2000 years our distant relatives will dig them up and they will become topics of a term paper on 'storage habits of mid-20th Century Americans".

rocky, glad Koriza is doing well, given her age.

At 72 I am suddenly learning all these new words. Keep it up, my brain enjoys the exercise.

doggio, sounds like you’re feeling a but…caustic…regarding your leadership. Can’t imagine why…  :rage:

Real Fish, just more {{{{ }}}}.

Shopping is done (how did I go all these years without a Debit card?) and dry cleaning is picked up, about 75 minutes of pedaling and am now watching the weather and trying to determine if soccer practice is worth the gamble of rain showers.

And the Parks Department says the fields are open, so I guess we’ll have practice (with one eye turned toward the sky). See y’all tonight

The only problem, of course, is that irk didn’t pay for my lunch. I bought the beef birria and my Monster myself. I try to be very strict with my diet – even though I had three birria burritos (on small – 7 inch – tortillas).

Or how not to.

Every time they served pot pie on the boat I handed in a comment card that said “Too much pie, not enough pot.”

I hope that they are able to get your shoulder repaired to good-as-new. Have you tried the voice feature on your device?

I keep some lidocaine gel and some anbesol in the first aid kit for bug bites and other irritations. If you have either on hand, try it out.

Have you considered having the ductwork cleaned. A friend who does that for a business says that they find the damnedest things there.

Irked, came home, walked Nelson (he got hit on second bounce when a soccer ball came over the fence. It startled him, but no injuries and the kids across the fence apologized when I returned the ball), et and messed around in the studio. Typical Tuesday.

I made the executive decision today to take half a day off Thursday in prep for Sis coming to town.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up from naptime, watching hockey and having a Manhattan. The cocktail is better than the game so far.

I dust every week. But I have pine trees outside, and multiple mammals inside.

So you’re not changing his name to Pele anytime soon. Glad he’s OK, though.

The good news is there is now no rush. Nothing is urgent to Dad any more. Take your time with the admin stuff, with the memorial stuff, etc. There is no rush.

Ref Flyboy: Lunch on the boss is was always my favorite flavor. And yeah, a Mexican-themed party is a minefield for a low carb eater. My habit is to eat orthodox at home first, then nibble some festive goodies at the party on a full stomach, and admit my glucose will not be happy later.

The 21st Century is really an amazing place once you get used to it.

Damn there @Baker: that’s an awful bit of bad news. Here’s hoping you end up with the easiest version of what’s doubtless a bad injury.

As to me …

It’s now post-dinner and approaching sunset as I enjoy a scotch and a stogie by the pool. This will be one of my last stogies at home for a very long time, perhaps ever. That’s Just Not Done at apartments around here. The good news is neither is cigs or MJ.

Up at 5am, got most of the goods I have here at Roomie Mike’s house put into boxes. It wasn’t much, and I wasn’t real fastidious about it, since it’s mostly bathroom stuff and random paraphernalia I’ve accumulated in 3-1/2 months here. It just needs to survive about 5 miles total in a UHaul I’m driving.

Much dashing about and prep thereafter all day long. Which is now as done as it’s gonna get.

Tomorrow Wed is the hardest day of this whole process for me: go get the UHaul truck, pick up some packages at my mailbox place that are two-man carry with them to help, then get my apartment keys, then empty my now rather full 9x10 storage unit into the van, or at least as much of that as I can do before I crash for lack of energy youth. I expect I’ll succeed, and no crisis if I don’t, but it’ll be a long day for sure.

Then I bring the loaded van to Mikey’s, load my last few boxes, put the clothes I’ve been wearing the last 3 months into the now half-empty wardrobe boxes I’ve been storing with the unused clothes, then crash for the night.

Thu is up early, finish any leftover loading, go pick up some patio furniture after 9am, then head to the apartment at noon where mover laborers I hired will have the afternoon to unload the truck up the elevator and into the apartment while I start assembling shelving to unpack onto. That day will be long, but should not be physically taxing for me.

My main goal is to have everything that needs a UHaul moved on Wed/Thu. I can move 18x24 and smaller boxes in my car; it just involves a lot of short trips to and fro since my car can only handle a couple larger boxes per trip. I can carry a bunch of file boxes per trip, but don’t have that many of those this time. I noe have too much bulky stuff that won’t fit efficiently (or at all) in those small boxes. Fortunately my apartment, the PO box store, Mike’s place, and the storage place are all in about a 3-mile circle.

Cheers all and I’ll report back in a couple days!

Meanwhile, everyone who’s hurt or ill, please start recovering, and nobody else get hurt or sick. We’ve got waay too much of that right here right now.

Buddy has recently been very determined to hang out on top of the fridge (or in the cabinet above it), regardless of how I feel on the subject.

He’s in the wok right now.

FCD made us omelets for supper - they were very good! I watched how he did it, since mine never seem to be omelet-like. It appears the big thing is I had the heat too high. So I’ll have to try again soon.

Hoping I can mow the ditch tomorrow, but there are conflicting reports about whether we’ll have rain in the morning or not. It’s going to be too hot in the afternoon for push mowage. We shall see. But I will take trash and recycling. So far, that’s all I’ve planned.

And the rest of tonight is dedicated to chillage. Plus I think I’ll sleep with Mel.

:snerk:

Pilot, please be careful.

Real Fish, yes, everything is on your timeline now. My father passed away just about a month ago and I’m still working on things.

Currently I am having major brain zaps due to switching from one antidepressant to another. It is less than fun. Which is why I may read much more than I type for awhile.

And another icon of the 20th Century has bitten the dust. Specifically, my 35 year old reading lamp in my bedroom. The switch wore out after 12,775+ uses.

Goes for you, too. I can’t buy you a drink if you’re in traction from dragging furniture around.

No worries.

Thanks for the excellent advice from a real pro at heaving.

Today I bought one of those large elastic belts that at least some movers and warehouse workers wear. It really clamps your torso in, and has over the shoulder suspenders to encourage lifting with good posture. Almost everything I need to move is a standard mover’s box. While packing I made sure none were stupid heavy. All the big stuff will be handled by pros.

But yeah, I totally take your point. Paying attention all day with every lift will be / must be part of the program. I can’t keep BB happy if I can’t move my hips. Now there’s some motivation.
