(Old) April Showers bringing May Flowers in the MMP

Evening all. The scattered rain showers decided to scatter themselves over my soccer practice just as we were getting started, so I got the kids back to their parents and headed on home slightly wetter than I started. Have had the evening meal and am waiting the appearance of Amtrak’s Southwest Chief at LaPlata, MO in about 20 minutes. Otherwise a quiet night is planned with much internettin’ and readin’ before bedtime.

Herald, sounds like shoe needs to send them a recipe…

red, glad Nelson is ok, caught a soccer ball to the face while refereeing Sunday, everyone was worried about it except me, didn’t bother me all that much (but then, I’m slightly larger than Nelson).

Pilot, hope the move goes as planned, good idea having hired help to schlep the stuff upstairs. Looking forward to the status report. And good point on the motivation…

Nettie, trying to come up with a ‘wok’ pun, but my brain cells just aren’t stirring…

FCM, here we just assume it will rain sometime soon and try to get things done in between raindrops.

{{{Sticky Buns}}}

doggio, that’s a pretty good life-span for any lamp. Ought to have it bronzed, like a trophy.

All-righty then, back to the Amtrak vid and then we’ll see what else is about. Catch y’all on Wednesday.

The latest in my orthopedic adventures. This happened around 3pm Saturday. Fell off the mounting block, ambulance ride to the ED. The mounting block is a wooden platform with 3 stairs, used to get on and off a horse. I won’t go into details except to say Michelle blocked my fall with her body. Otherwise I’d be in a halo. Fentanyl in the ambulance, morphine before X-rays.Hamstring strain and tailbone injury. Mild muscle relaxants and a donut pillow help. I am mobile but don’t overdo it. I’m sick of Tv and my tablet. Don’t have the focus to read. My car is still at the barn. That’s okay. Not like I’m going anywhere.

Video, or it didn’t happen.

Holy cow, I’m so glad Michelle was there to help you not break your neck! I’m sorry you are bored and in pain, but please remember to not overdue it.

How does one go about finding specific train routes? Specifically, the one going through Chapmanville WV? I know I’m going to want to spend time in our backyard watching it go by and it would be helpful to know when I should head out back.

I hope all goes well and nothing gets sprained or broken! And if the worse happens, remember that you don’t have to have working hips to keep BB (what is that short for, I’m sure you said at some point, but I’ve been distracted) happy, there are a whole lot of other ways to get your van rockin’.

I have learned that our housekeeper wasn’t doing as a great job of dusting as I thought. While she did great with the stuff in reach, she just used extension dusters for the stuff on the pot shelves cause the backs of everything needed a good cleaning.

Plus, getting the ductwork cleaned really does help with the air quality in a home.

Enjoy your half day off and I hope you have fun with Sis.

That is just rude. I know it is a small office, but she still should have asked about food issues before ordering. People change and sometimes someone who was fine with carbs or dairy or tomatoes yesterday can find out almost overnight that they aren’t fine with them anymore.

The person in charge of ordering food should always ask first.

Oh, hurray! That sounds like a nice steady income for the rest of the year. I hope all works out well.

So not much got done around here today. By me. Our new housekeeper was over and hubs and I just hung out on the back porch to keep out of her way. Talking and planning happened which was nice.

TC friend thought that I was moving out in two days so demanded to come over today for a visit and then wanted me to invite NF. I didn’t know why she was in such a hurry, but she has also lost two cats in the last six weeks so I thought she wanted some comforting and agreed.

It was a nice visit, we ate tacos and TC friend bought my three-wheeled bicycle. I am kinda upset about that, I really REALLY wanted that trike and I pimped it out…and my hip blew every time I went further than a block. But, we got some money, she got something she had been wanting since moving up here from Phx and it will be out of our shed on Saturday.

While NF and I were going to Dallas, she got to see what happens when I don’t read the instructions and have to pull out three days of work. I am not fun to be around I’m all cussing at myself because it is all my fault. NF’s response was to say things like “That sounds troubling.” or “How annoying.” when I stopped calling myself names, probably because she had shut her hearing aids off and just noticed that it was her turn to talk.

Tonight she told me that the reason she kept going into the bathroom and running the water was so I couldn’t hear her laugh at me bitching myself out.

After they left, I called Mom and learned that she is already in month two of the class. I would also be there if I could just learn to read and FOLLOW the instructions.

There s a video of me being wheeled out of the barn on a stretcher, yelling Hi, Brad. Brad is the barn manager….

A lot of us have dealt with the, ah, challenging logistics following a death. Don’t forget that you can ask us questions or seek advice.

Oh, I bet they just loved you.

Ammonia can help, too, but it works best if applied immediately. (This is the source of the recurring “Windex” joke in My Big Fat Greek Wedding but it really does work.)

There’s a topical anti itch stick (Itch Off? I can’t recall now) but it’s literally just an ammonia soaked applicator.

I bet!

Can you ask your friend for some of the weirdest, and report back? Puh-leeeeeeze?? I love that kind of stuff.

A long time ago, I was on Citalopram, and after a few years when I decided to go off it, I tapered soooooo gently.
Still got the zaps.

For those who’ve never experienced them, they are … hard to explain. But they are exactly what they name is: like getting a tiny electric shock, but inside your skull.

You have my utmost sympathy, sweetie!

God, we were dead-ass slow tonight. Plus our speaker died, so it was quiet & boring.
I’d kinda thought about running home on my lunch break to get one of mine, but was so excited for my pot pie I forgot.

When I bitched at myself later - we were all literally sitting around doing nothing - S.M. was like, “Do it! Go!”

.. don’t need to tell me twice! Made the evening a bit more tolerable.
Plus I’m off tomorrow but offered to leave it there for them - hell, I don’t need it here at home - so I got some brownie points, I guess.

Fast close, though, that’s for sure!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. I wonder what TVCTPMO has in store for me today?

Bronze a brass lamp?

[Homer]MMMmmmmm…doughnuts…[/Homer]
But glad you’re not too bad off.

Tomorrow, I need to call and un-fuck my internet. I couldn’t get my new phone to connect; when I called for the p/w they said I’d hafta reset it, and now I’m not sure if my router won’t connect at all, or if something happened to my Google Home connection, in which case the ISP CSR (heh!) wouldn’t be able to help.

I don’t know what’s wrong, and I hate feeling that way. I wish I could lean on my ex I.T. Guy but he’s busy with a new baby plus his fantabulous $$$ job and rarely even texts anymore.

Meanwhile, Monkey got his Tiki gooshy-fud, Pretzel got a refill on her water bowl - oh, yeah, I have GOT to feed both serpents tomorrow - and I’ve had a curry chicken thing with rice, and a multivitamin.

Ratties got flax seeds & bran flakes. Envy them!

Oh, and on a whim while at the Corner Sto’ on the way home, I got one of those tiny mini things of strawberry Haagen Daz. Yum.

Didn’t finish it, and it’s in the fridge since my freezer is dead, but I thought of @LSLGuy and his suggestion to FCM about melted ice cream, and figured, a strawberry “milkshake” for breakfast tomorrow morning maybe wouldn’t be the worst thing.

G’night. (Or good morning, to those of you starting your day.)

yay!

next time he’s in the wok you should inform him of the fact that he goes well with teriyaki and other tasty sauces

you know I thought we were supposed to stop killing ourselves off … at least ya weren’t on the morp and fentanyl very long …they’re hell to get off of

Were having a very late cross of spring and winter everytime we think its going to warm up it rains here or snows in the hills and its cold for here again

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/57f with a predicted high of 21c/68f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This weather is fucking fine. Just think, you could be eating yoghurt with Stevie Wonder, but you’re fucking not.” I am actually scoffing yoghurt but not with anyone else. It’s my typical breakfast when I’m at home (Greek yog, protein powder, creatine, cinnamon and berries) and it’s enough to keep me going until lunchtime.

WetOne sorry to hear you’ve had another accident, I hope they can get you sorted out quickly because that doesn’t sound like any kind of fun at all.

VanGo yay for the new project, I hope it’s good and steady work (and pay) for you.

Pilot good luck with the packing and moving, definitely not my favourite job at all.

flyboy nice of the company to buy lunch but it’s not very good that the organiser didn’t ask about dietary requirements first. Surely that’s top of the list of questions when you place an order like that?

RealFish just do things at your own pace, there’s no rush to do anything until you’re ready. The funeral home should be able to help, the one I used when mum died gave me a list of things to do that was really helpful. Mum lived in sheltered housing so although we were supposed to clear her flat and hand over the keys within 7 days of her death, the reality was that as long as the rent got paid, they didn’t care how long it took for me to deal with everything. Mum’s solicitor handled a lot of her other stuff in terms of settling her estate so that took a lot of my plate too. Just remember you have family around you to help, you shouldn’t feel you have to do everything yourself.

As to my day…I have a bunch of fiddly jobs to do so it’s a good thing I’m working at home today. Also useful because we’re out tonight to see a couple of bands so I don’t need to stress about getting home in good time, and getting us fed and out of the house again. The venue is about a half hour drive from here so as long as we’re on the road by 7.30pm, everything will be fine.

And in utterly scandalous news, our rubbish bins didn’t get emptied yesterday! It’s the normal domestic rubbish collection this week rather than the recycling, and usually the council is good at picking it up on the right day. Monday was a public holiday here, so they’ve got to collect Monday and Tuesday bins so I’ve put the bin out again today in the hopes that they’ll be round for it later.

Reminded me of an old joke about the guy who won a gold medal in the Olympics and was so proud, he went out and had it bronzed…

WetOne - ouchie for the fall, but thanks for the explanation of mounting block. They’re mentioned occasionally in the trashy novels I read and I’ve been too lazy to look it up. Now I know.

One would think, but I believe many people assume everyone likes what they like. Like chili - I don’t like it (mostly because of the seasonings, but it also looks ick) and I was once invited to supper where that was the meal. I picked at it, then ate after I got home.

Up early, but I fell asleep early, and despite waking twice, I got some decent rest. I think I’ll be able to mow this morning, tho I won’t try before 8 (it’s not quite 6:30 as I write this.) I’ll gather household garbage and make a run to the convenience center - I can do that even in the rain. Those are my big chores. I need to rollsuck, too, since I dusted and kinda shook the dustcloth out over the carpets.

The battle of the poundage continues. I gained on the cruise, then shed most of it, then MIL moved in and the stress eating started. I have since returned to my food diary and self-discipline and I’m almost back to where I was pre-cruise. I’ve even managed to ignore the container of cookies that lives on the counter for MIL (and FCD) and when I get her other desserts, I avoid the kinds I really like. My doc should be pleased at my checkup in 3 weeks. My bloodwork should be good, too. Go me!

Another post-cruise observation - my hair. On the recommendation of the grossly overpriced hairdresser that I talked to on the ship, I started taking Vitamin E and Biotin. It’s been 3 months now, and I do think my hair feels thicker. FCD says it looks better, so maybe that stuff is doing the job. Maybe I won’t end up almost bald like my dad’s sisters and mother.

Now, if I could just stop getting cut and bruised and scratched, but as long as I’m doing yard work, the owies will continue. Then there’s the fingertip I cut while dicing onions the other day… pity the poor klutz.

And onward. Happy Wednesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 90 and partly N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions this mornin’. Then we shall sloth, nap, and day drink. We will grab an early sup at Sonny’s bein’ as they are doin’ their pulled poke special on Wednesdays in May. After that I shall head over to the church house cause book study begins tonight. OYKW has elected not to participate as this ain’t his thing.

Pilot happy movin’ days! Better thee than me. For years I have been sayin’ my next move will be to the home or perhaps the columbarium over to the church house.

Nettie maybe Buddy identifies as a kitchen appliance now. Do not shame him.

red glad Nelson didn’t get hurt, poor baby.

wetone YIKES! Horses and you seem not to be a good combo as of late. Hope you’re all better soonest.

BooFae whenever there’s a holiday durin’ the week in these parts, trash collection is always a day later. Fortunately there are not many of those and the only ones that inconvenience me are the Moanday ones cause Moanday is my pickup day.

MOOOOOOM owies and ouchies will never cease. However, you can toss your luxurious hair back in despair whenever you get one. Always look for the small victories in life.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I must purtify and don attire suitable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe and despair!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

We’re down to our last half bottle of Sonny’s sweet BBQ sauce. Soon it will be Sweet Baby Ray’s or nothing. Dammit.

I don’t miss Florida, but I miss Sonny’s.

FCM, my friend got me biotin 1,000 and it seems to be helping. I just need to comb carefully to keep too much from coming out.

Mornin’ all! It’s about 45 minutes post sunrise and I’ve been up ~2 hours. NWS sez presently 77/25 on the way to 89/32. Just a couple of puffy clouds here and there. Pretty typical May weather; thank goodness the chill is finally gone.

The Amtrak tracks through the Miami metroblob are about 1/2 mi from Mikies, and about 2 miles from my previous and new residences. The Silver Meteor and Silver Star each come through here once each way each day. That line is mostly used by our commuter rail: Tri Rail | South Florida Regional Transportation Authority. They run 24 trains each way each weekday and 14 per weekend holiday day.

Back when I rode Tri-Rail to work a couple times a month it was common to pass Amtrak going the other way or see it stop in the station while awaiting my train there.

Just yesterday late afternoon I was approaching the tracks when an Amtrak southbound came through. Oddly, the two NYC departures are scheduled 4 hours apart, roughly 11am and 3pm, but both trains are scheduled to arrive in my area around 5:30-5:45pm, either 26 or 30 hours after they left NYC. So no way to tell whether that was the Meteor or the Star.

I got to be #2 in line at the gates and got a nice view of whichever it was. The big difference between the publicity shots in my cites above and in real life is that the train in the pix was washed in this week, while the trains in the real world maybe have been washed in this century. Maybe.

We have a second set of north/south tracks, owned by Florida East Coast Railway and also used by Brightline. Those are only a couple blocks from my previous and new residence. FEC runs 3 or 4 long freights per day each way, while Brightline runs 12 semi-highspeed passenger trains each way per weekday and 9 on weekends / holidays.

It seems like most days I’m out erranding I get to wait for one train or another. So we’ve got trainspotting Mecca here, albeit with little variety.

This should be a good place to start to figure out which Amtrak train(s) you’re looking for: Amtrak Routes. I’m no railfan, so I defer to MetalMouse for help finding freights.

Oh yeah, we’ve explored lots of ways to not use hips. She’s a nurse and reading between the lines I bet she’d greatly enjoy me being mostly immobilized and needing great amounts of care and “care”.

I nicknamed her Boat Babe when I first reported meeting / shagging her on the boat, and was thinking we’d be one and done. That name is already inapt and getting more so by the week(end).

I’m now thinking “Shag Everywhere Any Time Any Way” (SEATAW :rabbit: :rabbit2: ) begins to be a more apt description. Or she turns into a real GF. I’ve found myself thinking of her that way; she’s a lot more than just willing private parts of the appropriate innie/outie-ness. It seems she’s having the same thoughts.

When I next have some spare time I’ll put up some (G-rated) pix of her/us having fun.

This. It’s unpleasant, but it need not be difficult. You can do it; we can help.

One of my standard lines used around whiny kids is: “I just love children. Stir-fried with a little Szechuan they’re delicious. And very tender.”

That may be my next move as well. For darn sure this is the last move with any significant DIY component. Heck, this is probably the move with the most DIY component since I was 30.

Between your comment and the sad news of Truefish’es Dad, this just made me realize I’ve just solved the conundrum I’ve had for a couple years now of where to dispose of my body.

Late wife and I have a dual niche at her church with my name and start date already carved in stone below her completed entry. While I was married to HL, the planning for my demise would have led to a dilemma where her jealousy would compete with her indifference to all things sentimental. Doubtless picking my final resting place would have been a task better ignored until I no longer cared and she could choose on her own which dumpster to drop me off into.

As long as I stay single, that problem is now effortlessly solved again! Yaay!

I just checked and they don’t sell sauce from their website. Yet.

The two Sonny’s closest to me are 90 minutes away, one on the highway from here to the Keys and the other on an OK route to Ft. Myers, Sarasota, and Tampa. If in some future MMP I mention taking a road trip, bug me and I’ll pick you up a case of whatever flavor you want.

Any other hard problems you want solved today  ? : Amazon : Sonny’s BBQ Sampler Sweet Smokin’ Sizzlin Barbecue Sauce Bundle. Of course from that page you can also find the flavors sold individually. Like I said to Metal Mouse last night, the 21st Century is pretty darn amazing once you really get into it.

Well, I have now pissed away all my slack time, so time to shevel, feed, and kick it!

Cheers all, and thanks for all the well-wishes.

I know you can buy Sonny’s on line, but I’m not willing to pay that price. The WalMart in Ocala had quart jugs and that’s what I’m almost out of. I can deal - Ray’s is almost as good. And if I should go to Kentucky, They have several there…

OK, mowage is done, as is shower and donning outdoor attire. MIL is still asleep. FCD went to see if he could fix Daughter’s garbage disposal. Then he may or may not go to the boat. Once MIL is up and fed, I’ll gather household garbage and make for the convenience center. Then, dunno.

Up WAY too stoopit early, thanks to someone calling for whoever last had this number. I foresee more of the same.
Thought the damn thing was silenced, but I guess not.

Getting a new phone has truly made me feel like a doddering old fool who doesn’t understand technology. I can’t find a damn thing.

Sigh. Guess I’ll hafta read the damn manual. { pose of utter woe }

My car’s been making a funny noise lately. Mind swinging by & taking a look?

JtC, this is the map I use for Amtrak, but it doesn’t show any passenger trains going through Chapmanville (nearest stop is Charleston, WV). As for regular freights, you need to even more of a train geek than me, I’m afraid. Map: Amtrak

FCM, have been limiting my temptations and keeping track of them (have small bags of chips and popcorn), so far my weight seems to be steady or slowly dropped (219.2lbs this week). And glad your hair is doing good, wish I had enough to make it worth the while…

wet one, OUCH. Glad it wasn’t anymore severe than it was (P.S., is Michelle a horse or another rider, and are they OK?).

Pilot, rode the Silver Meteor a couple years ago (2021 IIRC) from New York to Miami, was pretty nice (had a roomette, but the dining car was closed for COVID, you had to order and pickup your food). Been to that big multi-transport center at MIA several times, wish AMTRAK could go there instead of their station 3-4 miles away. And I’d really like to try Brightline someday, have heard good reviews about it.

So got up around 7am and am running a water check for the next several hours, not using any and keeping the faucets off and checking the meter every hour. First hour showed 2.9 gallons used, will keep this up for 2-3 more hours then decide if I want to spend the mucho bucks for leak detection or just keep turning it on/off when I need it.

Weather is much like boo fae’s often is, very cloudly with it looking like it might rain…or not. Only difference is that it’s 75F already so it will be much warmer. I am supposed to referee a soccer game tonight, but it will be weather (and Parks Department) willing. Also need to get the garbage out for Thorsday pickup, there are due to be some strong storms tonight and early tomorrow so need to do that before they show up. And swimming is still planned, but first I need to break fast in a bit.

Have a good Hump Day all.

Warm and sunny today. I may get a small amount of groceries, trying to decide between ham and cheese for sandwiches, or just tuna salad…
I am wondering why my gyno would put me out for the Leep ( slice part of your cervix with a wire) when I had it done before, I was just given a numbing shot. No pain afterwards either.
Cervii are weird.
Hating the tree by my window blocking any sun. Hoping it gets a tree disease and dies.

How about leaning on our IT guy, @LSLGuy?

It’s a busy week for him, moving into his long awaited spiffy bachelor apt, but I bet he’d help, you just have to catch him.
