(Old) Are you a "leaf peeper" in the MMP?

Maybe Gentleman Caller does do this. I don’t think Shoe tells us everything …

Evening all. Well, they told me my car needed “about 6-7 more hours of work” and since it was nearly 3pm…so hopefully on Moanday I can finally start driving my own car again. Since I had already turned in the Tacoma (it was due at noon), so Uber’ed over to the airport and ended up in another Hyundai Kona, hopefully just for the weekend. Rental car costs are nearly 40% of my estimated repair costs, which are not cheap. %^$$% car had better behave after this…

So missed my swimming and sauna, thinking about going this evening but rain is expected and I need to get up early tomorrow for soccer, so might just make it a skip day. May try and make up for it on Sunday.

I really need to do a better job of proof-reading…

Cookie, give them a little time to adjust to having you folks around, too; they need to fit you in their schedules. But yeah, when it comes to retirement places to move to, Minnesota is not high on the list.

FCM, my longest cruise is about 14-15 days, which I think is about right. And hoping FCM-IL can do better. And I’d stay in your house for a year, if it didn’t mean leaving my house empty for a year…

OK, need to make a decision…aaannnd decided to stay in for the evening. Take care all.

Talked to SIL this afternoon. We’re looking at taking a ramble in another week, if she’s feeling better (she has some chronic conditions that have been plaguing her lately). I’m ready to do a day of wondering around back roads, eating BBQ and / or fried baloney sandwiches at a small hole in the wall BBQ joint or country store and just enjoying the day.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch CasaRoja, a slice from Two Brothers and a salad have been ingested and a PBS documentary about the history of the milling industry in Minneapolis is playing. Such excitement!

Hi all! I haven’t had a chance to really read anything and for that, I’m sorry. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks.

First, Wednesday was an… interesting… day. It was my and Hubby’s 20th Wedding Anniversary. We didn’t really have plans for that day or night, just spending some time together. But at 8:30, we got a text from CtE saying that they were in serious anxiety because they were in lockdown at school. Apparently someone called a threat in to the school and they couldn’t discount it as a hoax. The kids were petrified - I don’t care that they’re high schoolers, they still were worried that they weren’t going to see the people they loved ever again. Thankfully, it was a hoax, but the kids had no way of knowing when the cops jiggled the handle that it wasn’t someone coming in to kill them all. A majority of the student body was picked up by parents that day. I got both the kids, though it took awhile to make my way through the line to pick them up. I was very impressed with how the school handled it, though. Our saving grace was the fact that school was closed yesterday for election day, so the kids had a little extra time before going back in to the building.

Yesterday, I had my appointment with my doctor. He’s 99% sure that it’s carpal tunnel and I’m probably going to have surgery, but he’s got me scheduled for an EMG in October to confirm. I’m trying to just take it as it goes, but I’m getting really tired of the pain in my hands and my inability to type correctly thanks to the loss of feeling. The sooner I can get myself fixed, the better.

This weekend, Hubby is at a board gaming convention. I, however, will be trying to get BtY to do all of his past due homework. Which reminds me, I really should have bought myself some beer when I was at the store this morning.

I’d better go corral him before he sneaks away and tonight ends up being a wash. Sending hugs of happiness, support and sadness for whoever may need them.

Not gigantic. It’s the size of an under-counter fridge. And there was maybe 1/4 of the “creamer” left in the jar.

Hoping for a good sleep tonight. It’s still cool, so that will help. I need some serious zzzzzzzzzz

Up from naptime, hving a Negroni, and making some fish stew.
Been thinking about adding Old Man #1 or Old Man #2 to the menagerie.

Well, that would be enough time for the paint and spackle to dry after we take the stripper pole back out.

{{{Fishy}}} heck of a week.

While they’re both sweet looking dogs, I would be partial to Harvey.

Well, Colby’s established as getting along with cats, which is needed with Spot to consider. You’d want to make sure about Harvey before you add him.

Too bad you probably can’t take both. They both get along well with other dogs.

My day was pretty routine, including a grocery stop on the way home (the Flipp app reported that Safeway had a good special on 80% lean ground beef, so a couple of packages came home with me, plus a few other things) and nabbing a library hold (technically, the deadline was yesterday, but my book was still sitting on the hold shelf waiting for me). I’ve switched my library notifications to text message, since I’d actually missed the email that the book was ready for pickup.

Odd thing I wonder about: do stores care if a shopper brings in reusable bags from another store? E.g., going to Safeway with Winco bags.

Good point! I withdraw the question…unless GC wears spike heels. :high_heel:

doggio, add my vote for Harvey. I like Colby a lot, and he reminds me just a little of good ol’ Gordy, but I’m concerned you might not have him for very long, and I don’t want you to have to face another loss so soon. Harvey is a love, too!

Oo! There’s an idea!

Nope! I was embarrassed about doing this at first, but checkers never seemed to mind.

fishy, I had kids freak out about the doorknob getting turned, and they KNEW it was a drill. I can only imagine how upset your kids were. Question: is there school still doing shelter in place?

Dungees and corn onna cob have been consumed. Yum. Tomorrow, our first trip to the Mukilteo lighthouse.

Harvey and Colby are both cat(and dog!) friendly. My heart does lean Harvey based on the pics. And they both have health issues, so it’s a crap shoot on longevity. But if i could have more than 2 pets, I would grab both.

Howdy everyone. I just read the entire week so I am caught up but have questions.

First of all Wordy I am sorry for the loss of your Mom. Even expected it’s hard to lose a parent.

Cookie did you get a knee replacement?
Sari Did you buy a new house and what was wrong with the truck? Did you hurt your back or have surgery?
Metalmouse ditto. What was wrong with your vehicle that’s taking so long to fix.
Pilot congratulations on retirement and happy belated birthday. I thought I heard on the news the airline industry has changed the retirement age to 67.
Nellie Did you have a knee surgery? Be careful.

I spent the weekend with my high school friend Terri in Ponte Vedra Beach. It was a 2.5 hour drive for me up scary 95 but I actually got out of the house and went somewhere. Her late husband’s family always rents the same house and this was the first year without her husband so I only stayed the weekend. Everyone there were so nice and welcoming to me. I am glad to know she has a great support system in his family as her father just passed and she only has two brothers left in her own family. And me
We went to the Riverside Art Market on Saturday which is a flea market underneath the interstate. Lots of interesting art, food, herbs and such. Had my first ever chicken and waffles. The house was directly on the beach. I mean like no more than 15 feet out the door. On Sunday we spent some time on the beach and even with an umbrella and sun hat I still managed to get a little sun but not too much. I’m way pale. She is not doing well at all. Mourning herself to death. She has a bleeding ulcer and other health problems and I really worry about her. I drove home Monday. I would have been welcomed to stay all week but just didn’t think it right to since it’s the first year without her husband. The other people there was his brother, sister in law and their daughter and son in law and Terri’s stepson.
On her way home she got into an accident and messed up her new car and a ticket too but says it was really the other drivers fault but it was in a small town in Ga. The other driver knew the cop and it wouldn’t be worth the aggravation to fight it. She’s probably right about that. Just another stressor.

I got my property tax bill with no exemptions and nearly choked. I rushed to the property appraiser and found out the bill I paid last year was actually the prior owners bill. It seemed the right amount and was in my name so I paid it. I assumed the real estate broker handled all that. Anyway, I applied for the proper exemptions and a tax portability from my home in the Keys Got a letter a couple days later showing I was going to a hearing to present evidence. Evidence of what? It’s public record I sold the Keys home and the taxes I paid down there is also public record. So I fretted for a few days and could never get through to anyone on the phone as it was always busy. I got another letter saying all had been approved even the portability thing so no need for the hearing and then came a corrected notice. I am only going to have to pay $500 in property taxes this year. I paid $1777 last year and was ok with that amount so I’m real happy. Now I want my money back I paid last year but I’m gonna let that sleeping dog lie.

I started dieting and getting Wegovy shots, same as Ozempic and am down about 15 lbs so far. Their scale only shows 13.5 but I weigh at home naked and the clothes weigh something. I have some food adversions for sure. It’s expensive but I don’t care. I want to get healthier.

I have booked a tiny cabin in the woods of Gilchrist County Florida. It’s about two hours above Orlando toward the west coast. So me and Terri are going next month for three nights. The reason there is because that is the county in Florida with the most natural springs. I think there are 8 we can visit in the three days and more in neighboring county. That is depending if she can get her car fixed by then. If not I will take Buddyboy and go alone.

Buddyboy is getting a baby sister in about 7 weeks. I put a request on Next Door looking for a female small dog and got a message from a woman whose Mutt just had a litter. I told her the street I live on and it turns out she is my literal next door neighbor so I took it as a sign. I didn’t want a newborn but why not. They grow up quick. I have a nice fenced in yard and Buddy needs a playmate. She will probably wind being a little bigger than him which is fine. He’s mean and “special” but he got along well with the neighbors dogs in the Keys. It’s people he has a problem with. I’m a little excited. It will mean I’m not the playmate 24/7. I haven’t even seen the puppy yet in person but the pics the lady sends she is tiny and precious. Her name is Stella and the lady is already calling her that so at least she’ll know her name.

Doggiooo good on you for looking for a senior.

Ok thanks for reading. I’ll try to post more often.

I kept looking at them both and couldn’t pick the one I’d want to leave homeless. What a horrible hard decision. Thank goodness they are both in rescue and I don’t have to make the choice, because I would try to use hair dye to convince my landlord that I only had the acceptable number of pets.

Do not follow my advice, we tried it back when we were renting and it didn’t work. The bluing worked great to bleach out our St. Barnyard’s spots, but the landlord figured out that she wasn’t our longhair white cat because said dawg didn’t have retractable claws.

Oh please! I loved taking my reusable bags from another store because that was loud virtue signaling. Now I don’t even think twice about what is on the outside of the bag, I consider how it works for me first.

fishy I am sorry that you are looking at surgery, I was really hoping that letting your hands get a break would help.

NF didn’t come to Tai Chi yesterday because she was worn out from her vacation but now realized that she brought a bug home and her hub is coming down with it. Well, dang that they are under the weather, but also dang because my chicken owning friends want more deadfall…and I know that NF has plenty, but if we go to gather it up, NF and hubs will force themselves to get up and visit and be good hosts because everyone loves people who clean up their deadfall fruit for them.

There is a VERY good reason I didn’t have fruit trees planted here.

Speaking of which, my babby trees aren’t showing signs of transplant shock and are still making me happy. I saw dove sitting on a branch and was so happy that it was stoopid.

TC friend was over yesterday to look at the saplings but saw my new eclipse glasses on the table and somehow ended up inviting herself go to Dallas with me. I have mixed feelings about this. I enjoy her company in small doses but she is just exhausting after a couple of hours. I don’t want to tell her that I don’t want to spend 6 days with her, but I really don’t. She is just too overbearingly healthy and I really hope that she doesn’t turn vegan. I’m too old to put up with the sort of insufferable twit she would be then.

I think my best plan is to not mention Dallas in April again because she will probably get distracted by the October eclipse.

Did you manage to get a picture?

Of course not, I was afraid to move! I’m sure it is just the first one though so I’m sure pics will happen.

Later in the evening, I found this

and got very all sorts of “they didn’t have that sort of thing when I was young”!

Having been a grocery store clerk, I can happily state … they don’t give an absolute flying fuck.

Try to put yourself in their perspective:

1a.) how do you think it could possibly impact the store’s bottom line … e.g. why would they care,
and
2b.) even if for some godforsaken reasons they did care because it somehow cut into profits, which it doesn’t, what do you think the cashiers could possibly do about it?

And about bringing our own bags. I have some strong nylon (I think) bags that roll up to the size of an eggroll and fit nicely in my purse. This way I’m never without one or two when I’m shopping.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

But a buzz cut, some light brown Miss Clairol and a blue contact lens on Colby, and it just might work.

Yay! Glad you were there for Terri, and welcome STELLA!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of only 84 (BRR!) and mostly cloudy for the day. There may or may not be rain later in the day. TWPTB are all willy-nilly about that. High sloth and general overall uselessness, to include nappage, day drinkin’ and other non-activity are on the agenda. Sup shall be leftovers from Thursday. Works for me!

fishy glad the young’uns and all the young’uns in the school, are safe. I agree a day would be needed to get over the trauma. Such a shame kids have to go through that! Sorry you are goin’ to need surgery, but hope that alleviates the pain.

Butters glad you had a good time with your friend. When I saw Gilchrist County I was proud of myself cause I know where that is. There are some great natural springs there. Yay on the new puppy baby!

JtC I think it’s a good idea not to mention the eclipse and to hide the glasses. Maybe she will forget. Or be vague about what all you might do durin’ the trip and give the illusion you’ll be doin’ a lot of other things that would make it hard to have another person along. Maybe like you plan to attend a deep fried junk food festival for four days and eat your way through the offerin’s.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

We had a power outage around 4AM that lasted maybe 10 minutes. Wanna know how I know? Because FCD’s UPS started beeping. If I’d closed his office door, I wouldn’t have heard it. But I didn’t so I did. Dammit. I couldn’t fall back to sleep. ugh.

Today we’re meeting my last gummint boss at Capt. John’s Crab House when they open at 11. I haven’t had steamed crabs in years and even tho I prefer Baltimore style, I can deal with the southern Merrylande approach. Afterwards if we feel like it, we’ll go to the boat. Or not. Who knows…

53° this morning! If the long-range forecast is to be believed, we have maybe 3 days in the 80s ahead, then 70s/50s as we slide into autumn. Huzzah!! Except for the leaves on the ground. Boo!

Happy Saturday anyway!!
