(Old) Are you a "leaf peeper" in the MMP?

Good morning.

It’s 52F, dark and clear outside. The expected high is 85F, and we’ll have sunny skies all day.

Bumba! So good to see your post! I’m glad the ablation went well, but I hope you rest and take it easy.

Work was, um, the same as usual, but I pushed on, and yesterday, I signed off more or less on time. It might be a longer day today, it all depends on some leasing issues.

I managed to secure boarding for Polar for the week we’re going to Missouri next month. Part of me just doesn’t want to do this, but the other part wants to see my grandkids and daughter, so there you have it. Since my son is going, he will take care of getting the airline tickets, but I will insist on paying for my and my husband’s tickets. I also want to book a hotel just a few miles up the road from the kids’ farm. I don’t want to put my son-in-law’s stepmother out by having three of us stay in her home. The kids’ home is small, so we can’t stay there. They are living in that house temporarily until their new house is built. Anyway, one hurdle cleared.

I’ve already told my MPA I am NOT taking my work computer. She and the deputy will have to deal with things in my absence.

I’m glad it’s Friday. It’s been a week.

Sending yays, hugs, and boos as appropriate.

Morning all. Woke to 64F temperatures and since I opened a lot of windows last night before bedtime, the house is pleasantly cool and comfortable…at least until the temperature gets back to 84F. Weather Wizards are showing a 50-60% chance of rain today and tomorrow, so soccer games are in jeopardy, but we’ll just have to see. Main job this morning is getting all my stuff out of the rental truck and returning it, then coming home and hoping they get my car finished today. Like Sari, it has seemed to take forever.

Taters, glad things for the Missouri trip are working out. Concur on the hotel stay, three guests at once can be a distraction. And any bets that MPA and deputy get anything substantial done in your absence?

Yanker, glad you’re feeling better.

Pilot, might as well listen to the voice messages, or your subconscious will nag at you.

Shoe, for a GM she sounds like she hasn’t a clue how the business operates; hope the regular manager is back soon.

FCM, that sounds like a great cruise, but maybe FCD is not sure about 35 days at sea; that is a pretty long one.

OK, need to wake some Instant Breakfast and be about the day. Have a good Firday all.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a balmy 17c/63f with a predicted high of 19c/66f, and cloudy. Weather app tells me that “This is marathon weather, except running fucking sucks.” No marathon running today then.

Taters you seem to have “a week” every week! I’m happy to read that you’re not taking your work laptop with you, and you’re expecting people to cover for you in your absence. That is exactly how things should work. I hope your out of office message also directs people straight to the MPA/Deputy as well.

Bumba good to see you back again! We missed you

Yanker good to know that you’re feeling better now, hopefully the crud has decided you’re not such an appealing home after all.

Swampy I am another person who looks forward to the daily menu, sometimes I need inspiration too!

nellie I can’t take credit for “power to the people”, it’s from a 1970s comedy called Citizen Smith - the tale of workshy Wolfie Smith, the Ché Guevara of Tooting and head of the “Tooting Popular Front”.

pilot you need to listen to the voicemails, otherwise swampy will be in here telling you to get off your backside and get on with it! He’s very good at motivation, you know.

It’s our team manager’s last day with us today, we’ve had a presentation along with tea and cake which was very pleasant. She’s not going far, she’s moving out of our School and going to work with the College research hub instead so she will still be around our building. Other than that, another day of faffing about doing grotty jobs I’ve been putting off for too long.

I even have a relatively free weekend, apart from the gym tomorrow morning then a trip to acquire more cat litter, lunch out and errands in the afternoon. The house needs cleaning so the rollsuck will have to come out at some point too.

 Yeah, no. Stuff won’t get done. At least not stuff the MPA should be able to handle. I can’t rely on her, period.

You’re right, I do seem to have “week”. I wish it were better. I need to let the MPA fail, and fail HARD, but I can’t do it because everyone thinks we’re a team, so her failure is my failure. I will not fail. Ugh, it’s ridiculous.

That’s the problem, and I completely understand because I am just the same. But you have to let her fail, fail hard, and then show her how to pick up the pieces otherwise she’ll never learn, and everyone else will let things slide knowing you’ll fix it all when you’re back. Or they will guilt you into taking the laptop on vacation just so that you can prevent her making a total mess of things.

Ach, schade! Mrs. L.A. used to be able to eat spicier food; but now she thinks things are too hot that, that I barely feel the heat in. She still likes kimchi, though we rarely eat it. I don’t know if spicy foods mess up her stomach, or if she’s just lost her tolerance in her mouth.

Good morning!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer, clothes in the wash, an hour on the phone to Sis and fixing to do KP and houseirk. After that, I’ll get sheveled to go out in public to buy groceries. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Shhh. Something is out there. I heard it off and on all night. It sounded like a squirrel that swallowed a frog. When I turned on the balcony light, the sound stopped. What could it be?

Aren’t you glad Gentleman Caller doesn’t do this when he wants attention? And re: the GM, are you SURE she’s the GM and not a mildly confused escapee from the Sagging Harbor Rest Home?

Her Ladyship is wise to adhere to the old adage about always leaving your audience wanting more.

Aw, thank you! It has learned who’s boss. Hint: it’s not the person getting cold packs at 3. a.m. And I’m so glad you’re feeling better at long last!

Taters, I hope good ol’ Polar does OK at the kennel. And yay for getting to see the grands sans ball and chain work computer!

I am now imagining you waking a chicken instead of mixing a powder into milk .

Cheese omelet, side of sausage and some fried po-tay-toes for breakfast.

Absolutely nothing on the agenda today, which isn’t unusual at this point. No relatives coming for a visit this weekend, as I haven’t shamed them into it. Why did I move here again? I may have to lobby the Ms. to move somewhere else if things don’t improve. I don’t like the Midwest and never have, so living here is no treat for me other than being able to see offspring and theirs. If that’s not in the picture, other than a rare appearance by same, I’d just as soon live somewhere more appealing. ::grumblegrumble::

Really slow heave today. But it was only 65 degrees(ferret height) outside when I left, so it wasn’t horrible. Laundry is laundering, and I have had my shredded wheat, and Spot and I have had a 'nana, so off to naptime.

Spot is a he. Bu his “assistance” would be mainly batting dropped ice cubes across the floor, and poking me till I gave him some.

Indeed  :black_cat:

“Those wh can, do. Those who can’t teach. And those who can’t teach, administrate.”

So vacation is the perfect time for her to go down in flames, wheile you relax.

[Yakov Smirnoff]In Soviet Key West, chicken is awakened by YOU![/Yakov Smirnoff]

Just about to have some porridge, with salt and cream.

Actually, no - he wants to do the Great Loop , which takes about a year. My big concern about that is leaving our house unoccupied for a year. So we’d need to work out some details. Anybody interested in living rent-free in Southern Merrylande for a year?

FCD has gone to his mom’s. Her bloodwork came back and it’s worrisome. Her thyroid numbers are all over the place - one indicator is that she’s over-medicated, the other shows under-medication. Other numbers show impending kidney failure. This on top of her pacemaker and blood thinners and failing memory… She’s 92. And I’m wondering if this is the beginning of the end.

Will she do anything about any of this or just let nature take its course? She’s expressed the wish that she’d just die - guess we’ll see if she will. I feel sorry for FCD - this is a lot for him to deal with, especially since he can’t fix it.

I’ve been productive. I cleared the area for the pellets, hauled boat stuff to FCD’s shop (per his request), put the wheelchair in my car (we’re going to take his mother the fair next weekend), and did a convenience center run. Plus I just finished lunch. When I breakfast at 6, I’m dying by 11. And I need to plan for a mid-afternoon snack so I make it to a normal dinner time.

While I was putting stuff away and looking for the comforter, I rediscovered about 8 pillows we’re holding for MIL. She lives in a 1-br apartment - even if she had guests who were willing to sleep on the living room floor, there’s no way she could fit 8 people there… or even 2. I’m thinking at least 2 or 3 of the pillows will become boat pillows. I also found a bag with 50 plastic hangers in it. I taped them in packs of 10 - Daughter’s school is planning a yard sale and with luck, they can get a quarter for each pack. I’ve also started a box of miscellany for said yard sale.

Gonna take a break now, before attacking the basement floor.

“Psst. Hey. Hey. Wake up … and make mine scrambled, please.”

Sure! Having someone with your energy cleaning and doing all the yummy cooking – … oh. Oh, I see.

Never mind.

(… all joking aside, I’m terribly sorry you and your sweetie have to stand by now, and watch her inevitable decline.
Please vent to us whenever you want.)

FCM, are you close enought to St. Mary’s that a visting faculty member might find that agreeable?

Sorry about MIL. So hard to assess.

FCD is making some more Dr appts for his mom. So I guess she’s not throwing in the towel just yet.

Meanwhile, she sent him back here with 2 bags of stuff she cleared out of her pantry. I tossed the Karo syrup, unopened, but 3 years past its Best By date. It was looking discolored. I also tossed a can of instant grits and some non-dairy creamer - I don’t do coffee. I don’t eat grits in any form and FCD didn’t want these. I did keep the raisins and the flour and 2 cans of soup, as well as a pack of tortillas.

She also sent 2 bottles of unopened imitation vanilla. Sorry, I just use real vanilla - is that snobby of me? I’m passing the “vanilla”, an unopened box of Lipton tea bags, and a couple of other things to my daughter. If she doesn’t want them, she’ll take them to school for the teachers to fight over.

Guess I should get the rollsucking done downstairs.

It’s about 25 miles to the campus, so maybe a bit too far. I used to work at Webster Field, which is past the college, and it’s a rather long, boring drive. But it might be something to consider when/if we decided to give it a go. Thanks for the suggestion.

Livin’ la vida loca, man.

Nah, I had it with salt and cream; not over-easy eggs.

Awww. :frowning: Those teachers might-could drain a whole thing of creamer in a week, if I remember my teachers at all.

Teacher’s lounge coffee is usually both vile, and vital. (Say that out loud!)

Pro tip: put the flour into a freezer for three-four days. (You do have a gigantic freezer o’various beast meat, IIRC?) Cuts down on unwanted, ah, stowaway visitors.
Once thawed, it’s fine.

Howdy Y’all! The things got done and then we were bears who brunch. Then, we went to Food Kitty to pick up a few provisions. The reason for Food Kitty is we right by it and it just made sense to stop there and head on back to da cave. Goin’ to the Pubic Sto’ would have been a little bit of a detour and we are lazy efficient. The rest of the day has been spent in sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’. It’s been rainy/drizzly off and on, so sittin’ on the back porch with an adult beverage has been the main activity.

I might need to turn on the furnace. Ugh. Don’t wanna, but the weather guessers say it’ll be in the 40s tonight.

I was skinny dipping in the creek a week ago.

Grab your pearls and head to the fainting couch.
