I had it on Monday. I’m not posh enough for SVT, I just had plain old V-Tac. The scar tissue in my left ventricle was apparently sending extra signals and pushing my pulse rate way up to 170, which is as fast as my pacemaker will allow.
Oh yes. I get hungry just looking at his menus. Especially since I’m on a diet. The only good thing about that is that I have managed to bring my A1C down 41%
Mrs. L.A. is not an especially adventurous eater. Yes, she likes kimchee because she was stationed in South Korea; and yes, she like other things. But she used to eat ramen all the time because it was quick and easy. Know what else is quick and easy? Trader Joe’s beef kebabs, tzatziki, feta, and Kalamata olives. When she doesn’t want me to cook dinner, she’s started asking for this. She has hers in a low-carb spinach & garlic tortilla. I have mine on a plate. So the crab will have to wait until tomorrow. The quasi-Greek dinner tonight was just fine.
Evening all. Soccer has been coached and with the temperature in the 70’sF range, it was actually a pleasure to do so. Celebrated by buying an Ice Cream Sammich from a vendor who knows when soccer practice lets out. Then came home and ate, so need to keep working so the scale remains my friend on weigh-in Moanday. Picked up some ready-to-eat carrots and celery today, see if that helps instead of a big jar of cheese balls.
Car is still in the shop, they think it’ll be done tomorrow but I am to call them about 2:30pm to find out. Meanwhile my rental ends at 12:00N tomorrow, so I’ll have to turn it in, taxi/uber home, and then find out if I need to uber over to the shop to pick up my car or go back to the airport for another rental. Oh joy.
Sari, happy that truck is finally back.
Shoe, I can also procrastinate with the best of them, but glad you get the info you did and hopefully this long national nightmare will soon be behind you. As for the GM, how about “JPEG” (Just Good Enough, People)?
Yeah, I remember that sting very clearly. And Hydrogen Peroxide.
Bumba, glad you’re back home, just take it easy for awhile.
Pilot, a 40oz. ribeye is meant to be savored over several days. Enjoy.
OK, need to go watch the Tackleball game for awhile. All y’all take care.
I’m with ya there. The last time that I bought ketchup was likely a mini-dopefest 10+ years ago, held picnic style in a park.
Yay on getting your truck back sari. It’s always nice to be back in your own vehicle, even if the rental is a nice one.
Sorry about the apple picking cookie. Had you planned to make pies or something else with them?
Glad that the ablation went well bumba. I’ve missed you around here.
metal mouse, I take baby carrots and a mandarin to irk with me for my mid-morning snack (I have ~7 hours between breakfast and lunch). When I open the bag to put in the container, Nelson comes running for his tribute (gotta admit, they’re cold, crunchy and sweet, so what’s not to like?).
Irked, came home and took Nelson to the dog park, where he played with a couple of poodle mixes. I had a hankerin’ for fish for supper, so I decided to swing through Captain D’s. I sat in the drive thru for 5 minutes without moving, so I went down the street to the taco truck and got a couple of taco lenguas. Had them and a big salad for supper.
Good news on the A1c. I get labs drawn next week and I’m very curious what the higher dose of Ozempic does.
I love kimchi, can’t eat it on Ozempic, was never stationed in Korea, but several flights on Korean Air have given me a perfect pronunciation of gamsahamnida! (thank you very much!) that charms, e.g., Korean ladies working at the DMV.
Once again, I am up too late and have a lot of reading/catching up.
Welcome back Bumba
Not a hectic day today, but a very sleepy one.
I’m sure it’s the pills I’m taking and I looked it up and see that Celecoxib could be what is making me so thirsty/dry mouth.
We went over to the new house today to take in all the deliveries that were sitting on the porch.
We were hoping my son wouldn’t have to irk today, but he did, and just sent me a text saying he should get out around midnight.
Five hours of irk, not worth going in for.
There is talk of layoffs in October/November. I hope he gets some time off, that will help with moving.
Although I would like to be moved into the new house by the end of the month.
So far, the truck is running well.
In other good news, I am able to sit up in bed without pain. I can also scooch over a little without pain, so I’m not laying so close to the edge of the bed.
I have a habit of laying right on the edge anyway, but now is not a good time to be falling out of bed.
I broke the habit of sleeping with one leg hanging off the edge of the bed.
Nellie, I hope you feel better soon.
I’m not sure how to describe where I live. I’m within the city limits but this is a rural county. When I moved up this way, I had to sign a paper when I bought my house saying that I understood that the county is an agricultural county and I that understood that farms stink.
I know when the farmers fertilize their fields, because I can smell it at my house. My neighbor three doors down has chickens. Someone in the next block has a goat.
I can’t say it’s urban, downtown is urban. I can’t say suburban, that’s not exactly right either. Not rural either.
There’s probably not a lot of calls for Uber of Lyft up here. I think most cab drivers drive their own vehicles. A few have the company name either painted or decals on them, most don’t. It seems very casual, and not very professional.
Ozempic makes some people, including me, have some food aversions. I haven’t been able to eat anything spicy, oily, or fatty since I started taking it last November. While I’ve regained the capacity to eat some foods that seemed simply disgusting, I still am eating a fairly bland diet. It’s frustrating because I was eating a Mediterranean diet for a good number of years off and on, and I don’t really think I can eat much olive oil at the moment. I can’t manage fish or even being in an environment where fish is being cooked. A lot of meat is very aversive. I’m treating this as an experiment, possibly for a few years, and then we will see what medicine has come up with in the meantime.
Man, this G.M. really is a pain. She’s in her mid 60s but insists she’s still spry. (I’ve overheard mutterings that she really ought to, ah, start enjoying retirement.)
Yesterday, the ovens never got turned on, a fact not discovered until we opened and those suckers need close to an hour to warm up. It’s supposed to be literally the 1st thing the manager does upon walking in. So we started the day with a 45-minute wait time, and the first few orders took forever to cook properly. Not ideal.
Today, the damn warmers weren’t turned on, so while the pizzas were cooked, they sat in a room temperature box until the oversight was noticed.
Le sigh.
Oh, and I managed to cut myself on a damn ketchup packet.
Not, like, the kind you stash in that one junk drawer; the kind where you can either squeeze, or dip. Anyway, the sides are rigid, and apparently I slid the tip of my finger juuuuust right. Or wrong.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 (sorry to disappoint shoe) Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 84 and light rain durin’ the afternoon. I shall take care of various duties over to the church house this mornin’. OYKW shall accompany me and then we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up Grille. Then we will stop by the Pubic Sto’ to pick up a few items. After that 'twill be back to da cave for sloth and general overall uselessness the rest of the day.
VanGo I post the daily menu in my first post every mornin’. This is what I posted yestiddy mornin’:
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. The things I endure for my public!
I’m on a service contract for my HVAC and they notify me when it’s that time of year. And I kinda forgot/put off contacting them. Oct 10 is my date. I suppose if they could hire more technicians, the wait wouldn’t be so long. But it’s done, so there’s that.
Temps dropped into the 50s overnight - FCD woke early to get an extra blanket. I guess pretty soon I’ll need to put the comforter back on the bed. Yay for cool nights and open windows!!!
My big plan for today is clearing the end of the garage for the pellets. Theoretically, they’ll be delivered next week, tho I haven’t gotten a call from the supplier yet. They’ll get a call early next week if I don’t hear anything. Not-so-big plan for today will be a run to the convenience center. And I need to rollsuck the basement. So chores abound.
I found another cruise I really want to take, but FCD doesn’t seem all that interested and I refuse to book something where he’ll be a grump the whole time. So that trip won’t happen. Dammit. It’s round-trip out of Boston, stopping in Canada, Greenland, Iceland, British Isles, Norway, and Copenhagen. The stops going to Europe are different from the stops on the way back, so actually 2 separate cruises mooshed together. It’s something like 35 days. But he’s being a poop, so we’re not going. Dammit.
I need to contact Princess about our Antarctic cruise - I have some questions that will determine how much of what stuff I’ll pack. Last time I asked my “agent” some questions, I didn’t hear anything back. I’ll give her one more chance before going to the general help site.
Meanwhile, we’re now halfway thru the month - holy crap!!! Happy Firday!!
Up 4 hrs after hitting the hay, as per the usual, but this time awoken not due to the incessant calls of Mama Nature but because a certain feline was standing on my hips and later - briefly - my head & howling for attention.
Up now for a snack, and a certain feline started to use my office chair as a scratching post, but before I could even look up from Da 'Dope, he thought better of it & sauntered over to his scratching pad and went to town on it.
Who’s a good boy who immediately got some gooshy-food? Is it you? Yes, it is. You are such a good boy, and so handsome!
Mornin’ all. Tis ~30 minutes predawn as I start this mental diarrhea of a post and the balconatin’ has been going for an hour. The weather folks say its now 80/27 on the way to 91/32. The sea is now silver blue and the sky is now orange turning pink with the last planet near zenith about to disappear into the lightening blue. No clouds over the sea and few over land. Gonna be a bright one.
I’m dressed for the beach and will leave here for there maybe 20 minutes after dawn.
That’s not good news, that’s Tony the Tiger GGRRRRRreat news. Your situation is improving nicely. Good to hear about progress at the new house too. And that the truck has stayed healed.
I initially scanned that as “Spot and I made a Daquiri” and I was waiting for a fun story of how helpful she was, what with her sabotuer’s attitude and no opposable thumbs. And the need to taste everything.
In light of her opening follies on multiple days, I propose “Al”; short for Alzheimer’s. If opening time is in the late afternoon / evening even better, she’s sundowning as they say at the Memory Care Facility. If you really need to give her a female name, maybe “Alize” spelled with the z for zinger!
Speaking of avoiding awkward pending tasks, late afternoon I received a couple of phone calls from the subcontractor who actually hauled the boat away using a beat up pickup truck. A nice old Jamaican man and his 30-ish American-raised son. All I could think of was the old *Sanford and Son* comedy. Watching these two interact and fumble with stuff was natural comedy gold. Although gray-bearded Samuel was very nice and mellow in the Island way, unlike fussy angry Fred on TV.
The fact he called me suggests he’s hit a snag in disposing the boat. Which he probably wants me to help with somehow. I paid somebody exactly to avoid a festering blossoming exploding DIY disaster.
My conscience says I need to call him and work with him to resolve his problem even if I end up paying him and the broker who hired him. My selfish capitalist says “You’re in the biz, not me. You coulda refused the job. Deal with it.” Ouch!
He left two voicemails. I don’t have the courage (yet) to listen to them. The Avoidance is strong in that one. This one actually.
Her Ladyship was an exceptionally cute undergrad in a state with an 18yo drinking age at the time daiquiris where the “in” drink. And she only did / does things that are “in”. I have heard many many stories about Banana-Berry Daiquiries. Oddly the stories begin with drinking, continue to dancing, then stop right there. One suspects there was/is rather more to the story afterwards. One truly does.
Morning everyone. 69F here (the first digit is a six!!! Need to winterize the boat now!). Lotsa construction locally with annoying internet outages here.
Belated congrats to pilot on finally retiring (Wed, I think it was). It’s fun to try logging into to your old company and finding you no longer exist.
Still sending best wishes to nellie, and hoping the knee learns who’s boss. Or at least stops hurting so much. Good to hear about the (hopeful) end of truck woes, sari.
I’m finally getting past the cold-from-hell, and breathing a lot easier (day 24, I think). Finally started nest-building at the new boat dock – installed dock box, and other minor chores. Also cleaned said boat as the spiders were taking over. Ran the power cable more “permanently” and ordered a few more odds and ends from the jungle to attach, hang, etc. It’s good to finally have the energy to get out and do stuff.
Up early today to start the smoker. Youngest is slated to be home for the weekend, so we decided to smoke some ribs and have homemade potato salad, n stuff. It’s happily puffing out delicious smelling clouds as I type.
