(Old) Are you a "leaf peeper" in the MMP?

Howdy Y’all! Been a day of high sloth as promised earlier. We et up the leftovers for N.O.L. and then accomplished nappage. Then I watched my dawgs pluck some South Keerliner chikins. That’s always fun for me. Now I shall take myself abed shortly. OYKW has already done so.

The building’s end of summer pool party was impacted by rain that began just as it all kicked off. The crowd was not dissuaded by a little rain; we’ve got a lot of covered spaces around the pool to cower in. And it being the weekend, the younger (read still-employed) faction at the building had been there drinking & having fun all afternoon already, so a little rain was no big deal.

Then we had a lot of close-by lightning and the pool promptly emptied out. Of course being wet in wet clothes while standing under various cabanas in bare feet in pools of rainwater was probably not greatly safer than swimming if a bolt hit in the courtyard or pool. Then the storm departed, the sun returned, and the party moved back out in the open and into the water. Probably 15-20 people in our little gaggle and 75-100 overall.

But free paella, sangria, snacks, & desserts were had, lots of yakkage with neighbors that we’re slowly getting to know, and all is right with the world. Now back upstairs to recover from the strain of listening carefully to a noisy crowd over music for ~2 hours. Hearing loss is a social-wrecking bitch.

Jane it’s good to hear the eclipse trip situation is not so dire as it at first sounded. You seem to practice the judo method of friend management: cause them to use their own momentum to carry them to where you want them to go. Smarter not harder. Very clever.

I am so glad I’m not the only one who pays attention to that! Recently I had a doctor’s appointment and weighed myself dry and naked, then put on my clothes, even the shoes. That was 3.2 pounds.

Had a good time, tried many beers, and got to see sunlight. I took a nap, and now it’s time for Asian BBQ stirfry. And a Vieux Carré.

Happy Birthday Mr. Taters!!

Hence getting a dog that Spot can’t kill and eat. At least till they reach the “resigned acceptance” stage of multi species friendship.

I wish I’d read all the warnings before I went to the gym. However, I’m not doing too badly. To address some concerns:

  1. Sister’s doc is one of the best in the US, and the stationary bike is prescribed for ALL patients.
  2. I researched beforehand to be extra-sure it’s safe and to understand HOW to do it safely.
  3. I started v-e-r-y slow, moved to very slow and then to slow. 5 minutes was plenty.

I did this in place of the exercises I was told to do. Since I fell, those have been excruciating. Doing the recumbent bike was challenging but less painful. I’ll take tomorrow off, though.

JtC, if you change your mind about your friend coming along, you could always ask if she’d mind if you read aloud from Macro Economics and Management of Common Pool Resources, as you need to write a book report on it for your Too Smart for Our Own Good book club.

VanGo, I hope the attic squirrels are so angry, they evict themselves.

MetalMouse, how much longer is soccer season? The weather down there is good until what, December? But I don’t think you ref that long.

Cookie, I deserve a good thrashing by Super Jane, the Hero With the Cane, but I believe there’s a very long waitlist, and Vladimir Putin, Son of Sam, and Barney the Purple Annoyosaur are all ahead of me.

Pilot, the party sounds like fun.

Honey, I remove my nail polish and exhale first.

Happy Friday!

It was a chilly 51 degrees at the park this morning.
Yes, I got up early and went to the park.
The GR had a great time, but they are a bit obnoxious when they meet new dogs. Not bad, but they don’t respect boundaries. We went on the small dog side with Lucy now Petey Dad and I think the boys are a bit intimidating to the smaller dogs.

Echo is a bitch. She went after the husky mom, who we know she doesn’t like, then she went after the husky puppies too. She doesn’t listen to me, but when Barky/Humpy mom yelled at her, she straightened up.
She never goes after small dogs though. It’s like they are so far beneath her that she doesn’t even acknowledge they exist.

My son got off irk at 1130 last night. Four and a half hours is hardly worth going in for. He didn’t get home until after 1am, the cabs were busy last night it seems.

I found some dining chairs I like; except they are $438 a piece!
They are a bit ‘formal’ looking and that is really not me, but they look very confortable and they are on casters. They are nice enough looking that I could use them in the living room if I ever need extra seating for guests.
They are armchairs, so I would order only two of them, and get something similar without arms for the sides. It’s hard in my mind to justify spending that much money on chairs. Although, when I bought two wing chairs a year or two ago, one was $500 and the other was $250. When they were new you could hardly tell which was which, but after a year or so of use, it is very evident which one was cheaper. The $500 dollar chair still looks brand new even though it has been used every day for over a year.

I hate making decisions.

Happy Saturday!

It was a chilly 50 degrees at the park this morning.
My son was irritable and didn’t want to go. I was tired and didn’t want to go.
Now that I have the truck back and the pain isn’t so bad, I think it’s time to get back to normal.
It was only us and Barky/Humpy mom. LucynowPetey dad went on the small side.

Yesterday we all were on the small side. I was hoping LucynowPetey dad would get over his issues with Barky/Humpy mom. That is not going to happen. He doesn’t like her and never will.
Both of them have strong personalities that don’t mesh well.

I’m pretty happy with the way the GR behave at the park. They aren’t joined at the hip; each will go off and do their own thing. They are friendly with people and other dogs. They don’t jump on people when greeting them, and they don’t jump on the treat lady either.

I slept all day yesterday. I don’t know why I was so tired, although it could be the pills I’m taking. I even fell asleep between calls from irk.

What a hard decision Doggio! I guess I am the only Colby fan. It is a shame you can’t take both.

Good to see you again Butters.
Yes, I bought a new house. We’re in the process of moving, but it is going slowly.
I had a MILD procedure done on my back, MILD is the name of the procedure. It went well but I was supposed to rest and I overdid it one day. I was in pain afterwards but thought if I rested, I would be okay. A few days later, when I went to bed, my son had to lift my legs into the bed because I couldn’t do it. The next day I could barely move. That was over the holiday weekend and I was lucky that the doctor on call prescribed me some muscle relaxants and anti-inflammation drugs.
My truck just went crazy one day. Everything went out, and every light and warning was flashing. The codes said it was the transmission, but it was the wiring. It took the dealership weeks to figure it out, they had to call GM. Then they had to inspect the entire wiring system.
It seems to be okay now, but I do think about trading it in.
If my back hadn’t been so bad, I would have sold some stock and bought a new vehicle.
Congrats on new puppy Stella. I can’t wait to see pictures.

Sorry you need surgery, Fishy. I know somebody who had and they were glad they did.

I hope your trees do well, JtC
I hope your friend forgets about the trip. Or I see there was an update.

Glad you enjoyed the party Pilot
Standing in pools of water is not smart when lightning is around.
I have a friend who worked on a horse farm who could tell you all about it.

I never answered the original question.
No, I don’t take a drive to see leaves, I am in the middle of beautiful scenery a good bit of the time.
I remember when Sunday drives were what we did when I was a kid. I’m sure there were some trips to see leaves, just like in the winter we’d drive around to look at all the lights.

Happy Birthday to Taterhubs
I hope you enjoy your time off and leave the laptop at home.
Sometimes people have to miss you to appreciate you.

MetalMouse, I understand how cats can get on your nerves. I like cats and dogs, but I prefer dogs. Adam is a good cat most of the time, but once he is gone, there won’t be another.
Everybody up here complains about CVS, a lot of times they don’t have certain drugs in stock. The lines are long, and they are consistently short on staff.
Pilot, I don’t know if my doctor calls drugs in or if it’s the phrase they use.

I decided to buy two of the expensive chairs.
All my life I have had either hand me downs or cheap furniture. I’ve decided to get what I like; except I did say no way to the $2500+ dining table. It’s beautiful, but no.
I can’t find a table I like.

There was mecurochrome, but there was also merthiolate.

I slept a good bit of today. I am wasting time and I have stuff that needs to get done.
We will be going to the house tomorrow and open packages and get some stuff done.
I want to be moved in by the end of the month.

Don’t forget going to the bathroom.

Might take a while with a cat involved. Buddy moved in over a year ago and Allie’s not really there yet with him.

Hi Baker for sure after the bathroom. Every ounce counts to me.

Bumba glad your ablation went well. Do take it easy.

Sari Congratulations on new home. Is it still in the same town? And hope the back continues to improve. I’ve seen your beautiful pups on FB. I assume the GR is them? Going to have to look up MILD though.

About the original OP. I don’t have seasons still but I would be open to a leaf peeping trip to New England. Especially as I’ve never been there. The neighbors have a large Florida Oak that drops leaves in my yard. I’ll have to see, if we get any winter at all, if they change color.

Also hoping both cookie and Nellie knees heal quickly and less painfully. I have the arthritis in my knees but once I got away from the stilt home and all those stairs I’ve not been bothered much. Now I probably jinxed it.

Buy one pirate eye patch to use on both dawgs and maybe find a skull and cross bones bandana. Folks will be so distracted by how cute your pirate is that they won’t notice the size difference!

Auston has an annual Spamarama in April, I’ll bet that would have scared her off!

I took Dad to several of the Spamarams in CA back in the day because he would live on fried eggs and spam if he had the choice. We always had a good time together, but looking back on it I think we were both indulging each other. We tended to do that a lot, but the memories are so precious.

NOT whining, just a few minor complaints and advice for the other knee replacement victim.

Happy birthday to your hubs and who made the coconut cream pie? Mine tend to split and I’m wondering if it is because I’m not drying the coconut enough after grating it.

Do yours also throw the used plastic bags in the trash when you scold them? The ones around here do and it just ticks me off so much that now I just move to the bagging area and bag own stuff, which makes people wait because I’m bagging and not paying and walking away.

VanGo, my barn cat suggestion stands. Dawgs are as sweet as can be, but are kinda needy. Cats are much more self sufficient and well fed cats hunt much better than hungry cats. (hungry cats range for food, well fed cats hang around and hunt squirrels and other rodents for fun.)

Did you get them in one arm each? I’ve never done that because I don’t want both arms to be sore, but the shot giving people always seem rather surprised that I only want them to use one arm.

Your salad sounds very nice

While I do sometimes make hubs go to parties with me, his hearing loss is why I start making excuses after an hour or so. He likes my friends, but gets headaches when he’s trying to pay attention to the conversation over the background noise.

I used to bitch about him for not wearing hearing protection but gave up after 20 years or so because I figured he couldn’t hear me by then.

I keep telling folks that I’m creatively lazy, LOL!

I was pretty sure TC friend would “New and Improve” our trip enough to make it her trip that I could join if I wanted, but I didn’t think it would happen this fast.

BTW, many folks who don’t smoke da bud think that us potheads will go through DT’s or heroin withdrawal if we don’t get to smoke on our schedule. That really isn’t true. I stop smoking pot for a week every year just to show it who is in control and I just have weird dreams and lose a couple of pounds.

I’m also OK with no booze for a week, but then I have to wake up and pee all night long because I drink tea instead.

Now…caffeine. That is a bitch and I get headaches and crabby and no energy and two days later hubs is begging me to just drink a latte because the cats are hiding.

Went to the Mukilteo lighthouse today. Pictures pending. We went to Diamond Knot Brewery & Alehouse for lunch. I had an… interesting Cobb salad. Instead of chicken there were cubes of what appeared to be cubed slices of some sort of chicken loaf. Instead of bacon, there were cubed slices of ham. And there were pickled red onions. Kind of bizarre. Not bad, but not a proper Cobb salad.

We decided to take Chuckanut Drive (Hwy 11) on the way home. When we hit Fairhaven, Mrs. L.A. said, '‘Do you want to go to The Black Cat?’ Sure. We were going to have one drink. We each had two Vieus Carrés, and we each had an oyster shooter. (Her’s had vodka.) Returning home, I fed the moggies. I’ve had three more Vieux Carrés

I’m a little disappointed that the lighthouse didn’t have medallions for my hiking stick. I bought a couple of tokent, which I’ll try to adapt.

We stopped at The NOAH Center on the way home to look at kitties. She’s making noises about getting another cat. I think a male kitten would be best (they don’t really have many kittens right now), but she doesn’t want a male. I liked a bonded pair, ‘Blink’ and ‘Wink’. They had two eyes between the two of them.

I’ll post pics from the lighthouse, but it may not be until the next MMP.

I know. Normally there’s just the just the one right dog. But there’s 2 hecking good puppers, and no matter what I’ll be sad. :frowning:

Well this is the cat that hid in the sofa the first 2 weeks i had him, and actually hissed at me the first time I caught him out in the open.

ARRRRRRRRR(fff)!

I just about spit out my tea. “Jonly Bonly from Boldly Go”.

I was expecting something else from the title of the video. When my mom rides her staionary bike, her new knee makes a clicking noise. Totally normal, but very weird.

Been reading, but rarely catch up. Yesterday’s todo list had 10 items (hubby’s tasks are also on there) and today’s only has 8 items. What happened to a day of rest?

At least today’s list includes laundry, which is a lot easier than digging weeds out of the sidewalk. So today we’ll have more time to enjoy the patio.

I’ve never taken a trip just to see leaves, but I used to live in NW NJ, and there was some gorgeous fall color. Followed by lots of raking. One year we ended up raking leaves on Thanksgiving morning, because it was the first time our work schedule and weather matched.

We’ve been to their brewpub in Mountlake Terrace. We decided there we’d rather take the drive out to Scuttlebutt in Everett than go to Diamond Knot again.

I’m looking forward to seeing pictures of the new furred family members. I’ve never had a cat or dog, and probably never will. Our neighbor has a dog, so we get to give scritches ever so often.

As I’m so far behind, hugs to those who need them and boo to uncooperative cars, squirrels and weather.

:notes: I’m fixing a hole
Where the rain squirrels get in
And stop my mind from wandering :musical_note:

Morning, mumpers! It’s 18c/64f with a predicted high of 20c/68f today, and cloudy. Weather app understands my feelings today - “This is marathon weather, except running fucking sucks.”

nellie I hope your knee isn’t too sore after the gym exertions, and you’re taking enough rest as well.

Cookie you’re not whining, this is the place to come and vent/rant about recovery from surgery, especially when it’s not going your way.

Doggio whatever happens, you’ll make the right decision and we all secretly know that the other dog’s perfect person is coming through that door right behind you.

Happy birthday to Mr Taters - hope you have a good day of celebrations!

Nothing much to report today - I was up reasonably early for a Sunday, cats have been tended to, and I am catching up on my tea-drinking. Had a bath earlier and my only non-slothage activity today will be running the rollsuck around, and making dinner tonight. Back to irk tomorrow, and the start of Welcome Week which promises to be the usual level of Hell.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 and cloudy for the day. We had rain and tstorms durin’ the night, so 'tis also very wet out. The big item on today’s schedule is deheathenization (I have Chalice duty) followed by a McN.O.L., followed by a return to da cave wherein nappage shall commence. The rest of the day shall be spent in sloth and general overall uselessness as is our wont.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Me too - first thing in the morning, well, after bladder drainage, I step on the scale. It may be with or without the nightshirt, which might weigh 3 ounces… I know there are those who say weighing every day is bad, but it works for me, since I have a digital scale and it shows tenths of a pound and most of the time, that last digit has changed. It keeps me motivated. And -10 as of this morning! WOOHOO!!

When FCD had his post-knee PT, they always started on the bike. It was the warm-up and they didn’t load up the resistance. I wish he’d use the bike here, but that’s another story.

HOLY CRAP!!! Are they cast in gold??? Then again, I remember when we were shopping for recliners 3 years ago - sometimes it feels like the manufacturer wants to make their entire year’s profit off me in one sale!!! Same with mattresses. And, well, pretty much any major purchase. :money_with_wings:

That routine cracks me up every time, and I’ve been hearing it on and off for years. I lurves me some Henry Cho.

Woke at 4 again this morning - stoopit bladder - but I fell back to sleep till almost 7!! Poor Higgs must have been ready to explode! But she’s fine. Critters have been tended to, I’ve fed my face, FCD is headed to the school to pick up some tools, then he’ll spend the day in his shop. I will, honestly and truly, get some crocheting done today. I did plan to do it last night but I was so tired. However, today I’ll finish the dragon and make the sea turtle, then see how I feel about gnomes. Only 4 weeks till the fund raiser.

Rain is forecast today, but we had no outdoor plans anyway. I should mow - maybe tomorrow. And a look at the long-range forecast tells me I’ll be leaving the windows open at least for the next month or so. No a/c needed. Cool nights for comfy sleeping. I think autumn is well and truly here.

Happy Sunday!!

We may take a stab at going out for breakfast this morning. There’s a place not far from here that gets good reviews, and the knee is cooperating. Exciting stuff!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall clean, then Spot and I shall watch handegg. Currently Spot is communing with The Thing that Lives In the Ceiling. It’s supposed to rain shortly.

Sounds like Waffle House.

Showered and dressed like a semi-adult (sweatpants and t-shirt - it’s a tad cool.) FCD is futzing in his shop. Dishwasher is sloshing. I’m going to find something on TV and commence to yarning. Good times!
