(Old) Are you a "leaf peeper" in the MMP?

Probably more exciting than my morning.

Mornin’ all. Now about 2 hours post-dawn and I’ve been balconatin’ since about dawn. Still caffinatin’, but just about done. Was 80/27 when I got out here, and slightly cool feeling with the breeze in the twilight. Pretty orange towering clouds just offshore. Now its a comfy lush 83/28 on the way to 92/34.

May get some pool time with the party-hearty neighbors again today. Her Ladyship has a tentative gathering with the other library ladies late afternoon.

Elsewise there’s naught needin’ doin’. Life’s in cruise mode.

Good to hear that Nellie is doing sensible stuff w the knee. And that Jane has her eclipse friend increasingly in hand. Flyboy’s pix will be fun. A common variation on a Cobb salad around here leaves off the chicken and substitutes lump and/or shredded crab meat. Can be tasty once you re-orient your expectations.

Cheers all!

As far as I know, we’re not getting another cat. The Wife just likes to look at the kitties at the shelter when we’re in the area. But here are some of the cats we saw. Unfortunately they don’t have photos of all of them. We’re pretty sure Ambrose is going to be adopted. A couple of girls were looking at him, and there was a phone conversation. An older couple were warned that another cat (whose name I don’t recall) will either like someone, or not. Apparently that cat liked them because it rolled over and let them rub its belly. Wink and Blink are adorable, but there’s no picture of them on the page.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 51F, dark, and mostly cloudy outside at the moment. The expected high is around 73F, and we’ll have mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies. Rain is expected in the wee hours tomorrow morning (basically during my commute to the office), but it should stop around 8:00 am. The expected high for tomorrow is only 68F.

I was very busy yesterday. I dusted and vacuumed the whole house, scrubbed the bathrooms, went to the grocery store, and made a nice dinner for my husband.

The pies came from the store bakery; I wasn’t going to try making a pie on top of the other stuff I was trying to accomplish. I prefer cake over pie, but it was my husband’s birthday and choice. I got both a coconut and a banana cream pie at his request. The banana cream was meh.

My son arrived much later than expected due to crappy traffic, but he and my husband had a great time gaming and playing VR, and all that mattered was that my husband got to spend time with him because that’s all he really wanted. I sent my son home with leftovers, and I’m glad I did, because his fridge sounded empty. Not because he can’t afford the food but because he’s just been so busy that he hasn’t really stocked up. Also, his apartment fridge is tiny, so not a lot fits in there or the freezer. I sent him home with enough leftovers to get him through about a day and a half of meals.

I need to get the lawn mowed today and wash clothes and bedding. That’s all I have on the agenda for today.

sari, I’m glad you got out to the park, and I hope your back continues to improve.

I’ve been looking at dining room tables and chairs too. I bought my current dining set in 1990, and it shows it’s age. Knife scrapes from the kids, the chairs are falling apart, etc. Also, my tastes have changed. I need to pull the trigger on a set and be done with it, but I always cringe when I look at the money going out the door. I think I’ll probably do it sometime after our trip to Missouri.

nellie, I’m glad you didn’t push yourself way too hard yesterday. I hope you feel good today.

cookie, I hope you enjoy your breakfast out.

JtC, I hope you enjoy your trip, but I am glad you’re not giving in completely to your friend’s “new and improved” plans. Jeeze, she oughta go on her own trip instead of wrecking yours.

Okay, need to finish coffee, run the dishwasher, and get my day started. I have to go into the office twice this week (tomorrow and Wednesday) and I am full of donwanna. But, it’s still better than going there full-time, right?

Nope, I live in the middle of a thick forest. I can look out my window and see the leaves in their glorious colors, ditto for the drive to work. It does bear noting, however, that the leaves don’t all change in the course of a couple of days, like they do in New England. The process takes weeks, so yeah, they’re not as vibrant, but they’re still beautiful.

Our last games will be 3-5 November, which is good since I leave for my cruise on the 6th.

Morning all. Went to the brand-new Kroger to get the Sunday NY Times, and ended up buying some Pepsi 12-packs (they had a buy 2, get 2 free deal so it averaged out to $4 a carton, which was just too good a deal to pass up), So my Pepsi supplies should be good until the end of the year. Home now and doing the morning internettin’. Sunday Dinner this week is Meatloaf at Logan’s Roadhouse, so I have that to look forward to in a couple of hours. Temperature is 67F and the house is pleasant cool.Supposed to get to 82F, so the AC will get a modest workout. Outside of a trip to the gym, nothing else is on the agenda.

JtC, sounds like the situation with TC friend is somewhat under control. Good.

Pilot, sounds like the pool party was…interesting, in a ‘glad you weren’t electrocuted’ way… And I’m wondering if and when the lazing around will begin to get to you and you’ll be lookng for something to keep you days occupied. Think I told this before, my Dad retired and about drove my Mom nuts, so he ended up working as a crossing guard at the local elementary school for about 6-7 years and loved it.

Very nicely put.

To followup on Cupcakes and Butters, I also make sure to weight naked at the gym, sometimes those sweaty clothes can weight quite a bit.

nellie, glad you took it slow and easy, hope things keep improving.

Sari, those are some expensive dining chairs; I’d shop around a bit if you can. Glad the GR’s are doing fairly well socializing.

I think that’s somewhere in the dictionary as ‘loving each other’.

Flyboy, looking forward to those pictures.

Cookie, hope breaking fast was enjoyable.

OK, I think I’m more or less caught up… Have a great Sunday all.

They do, since it’s usually meat or eggs that they try it with.

I got them in the same arm. Still no soreness. The salad was a success.

sari, late night on the weekends, cabs are busy picking up drunks at the bars. Same for mid-morning on Saturday and Sunday, when they have to go back to the bar to pick their wheels up.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, dog parked, Sunday dinner (a nice chicken stew) in the crock and fixing to do meal prep and KP. Other than that, it will be a day of sloth.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

An eventual issue no doubt.

Her Ladyship is often rather like a Siamese cat; content to do her own thing with no concern or interest for what I do or don’t do. Which means as long as I leave her alone we’re fine. As our pet owners know, pursuing a Siamese cat for companionship when they’re not in the mood ends badly.

My view at this time is that I steadfastly refuse anything where I am not in full control of my schedule. Signing up to work or volunteer on e.g. Tuesday mornings is a non-starter. I will decide on that Tuesday morning in the moment whether I feel like doing that, doing something else, or doing exactly nothing.

A lot of that is reaction to a life mostly spent on short notice alert. My days off or my days on both involved short notice alert. This may wear in after awhile. I recall a blogger I respected who had a semi-tag line: “Discipline beats motivation every time.” His point was that the will to a) decide to e.g. exercise then the discipline to not revisit the decision every morning and instead just do it is far more effective than b) I’ll exercise when the motivation strikes.

As your highly successful approach to exercise clearly demonstrates. Making disciplined me the master of randomly-motivated (read “lazy”) me is up to me. For each of us.

Enough armchair philosophy for Sunday. Off to shevel and sloth, perchance to feed!

Breakfast was that rare Midwest combination of quality + quantity. The other breakfast attempts that we’ve made left off the first part of that equation. I had huevos rancheros that had pulled pork, black beans chopped scallions, all sitting on crisp corn torts, topped with melted cheese and a couple of perfectly poached eggs. The Ms had eggs benedict that she proclaimed excellent. The restaurant is also a bakery, so we picked up a couple of almond croissants and a loaf of sourdough. Afterwards, we took a drive around the lake to see how the rich people live. The knee is achy, but not leaky, so a win all around!

Cleaning(except vacuuming) is done. After 4 tries and 45 minutes, I have changed the sheets. It’s one of those morning where I understand why cats went from small gods to being burned as familiars of Satan.
I suppose I should make some brunch.

Hopefully she doesn’t hornk on the couch at random intervals.

Cookie, glad the knee let you have a delicious breakfast.

It’s official: getting up every two hours and walking about keeps me from lying there moaning all night. The pain is still there, but I can sleep over it. I’ll do my PT exercises today, but no walking. Kids will call later :confetti_ball: and so will my beloved brother.

QUESTION: Is the new Covid jab some of you are getting the same new jab that was available this past summer? I’m having trouble keeping the “new” jabs apart.

shoe, that video cracked me up. I know a guy whose middle initial stands for nothing who had the Aonly version of that experience.

Saying “I probably jinxed it” removes the jinx. At least, that’s how I heard it in 1966 from some very knowledgeable 9-year-olds who scrupulously avoided stepping on cracks.

That is so sweet! My heart is now warmed.

INVALUABLE advice, cookie!

I get my biweekly shots one in each arm to spread the joy equally.

I’ve been there! Apropos of nothing, “Chuckanut” is one of my favorite place names ever. If you can say it three times without smiling, you’re a sourpuss. Also, how do you have the self-control to just window shop for kitties?

I do that, too! My kids now bring insulated totes, as they know they can’t escape without leftovers. I hope you get a chance to rest up today.

cookie, sounds like the perfect Sunday!

Hugs to all!

It’s a funny name. It makes me laugh so hard, I think I’ll chuck a nut!

But we don’t get to cross the Nooksack River. :notes: Nooksack, baby! :notes:

Gorgeous - by my standards - day here in western Mitten State. Cloudy, cool-ish (mid 60s) and it rained earlier while I was conked out but no more of that for now, just a mild, fresh-smelling breeze.

I’m doing my version of balconatin’ e.g. sittin’ on my side steps, watching Monkey monkeying around. The local woodpeckers, squirrels, jays, sparrows et al have mostly simmered down their morning arguments, but having just replenished the suet feeder & tossed out more seed & peanuts, I can hear murmured gossip already from the treetops.

Got a lovely photo of one of my striped morning glories, bejeweled with raindrops. It’s on the Book of the Faces - if I get both ambitious & bored enough, I may repost here. I’ve been snapping a shot of them most days, so some winter night when the cold winds are howling, I want to post an album of all of them - it is FASCINATING to me how unique each blossom looks.

I also got a fun video of Monks strutting around on the hood of my car and howling for attention. You can even see his double thumbs. Best part is I got his grumbled “hmmph” that he often uses to end his rambling stories.

Time for a Pop-Tart or something equally nutrient-poor. I finally have a Blessed Day Off after working all week, and I intend to spend it compressing my chair cushions.

Thanks for sharing the link. Baby Ducky definitely caught my eye. She’s gorgeous. I do wonder if that’s the name she had before, or if the shelter’s running out of ideas.

Just spent the last few hours online trying to find a plant that is evergreen, native, bee and/or butterfly friendly and not poisonous to people, especially children who might want to eat any berries on the plant.

I think native is coming off the list. Hopefully I can find something that fulfills the other requirements and is not invasive. Need to summarize and send my recommendations to the neighbor.

In keeping with this week’s MMP, I thought this was appropriate.

Mitten State representin’ !!

… also, the sun just came out, with a vengeance. What a bunch of :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Accuweather lied - we didn’t get the 85% chance of rain at all. Oh well.

I finished this:
Imgur
then made a sea turtle. All while watching/listening to The West Wing. I binged the series years ago and I’m doing it again. Supper will be pulled poke and assorted veggies. Overall, a very chill day.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and then had a McN.O.L. Then nappage got accomplished. Also the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Wanted to do that ahead of the rain that is allegedly comin’ in a bit. Tomorrow night is men’s night over to the church house, so steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. OK, beer is alway chillin’ here at da cave, but this particular beer is for tomorrow night. Now we continue sloth along with some Netflix and chill.

MOOOOOOM dragon is so keeeee-yooooote!

Oh! Oh! Oh! My son texted earlier to ask if I’d be home all day for an early birthday delivery. I thought they maybe sent flowers or something, but surprise! HE delivered the gifts in person! (They live over 60 miles away.) He and my wonderful DIL were on their way to Portland and thought they’d stop in. I’m so happy! Birthday hugs!

FCM, that is ADORABLE! You’re incredible. When my son was a toddler, his great-gramma crocheted him a kangaroo, complete with a little joey in her pouch. He and his little sister after him LOVED it. Were you so inclined, I bet you could create a sweet kangaroo and occupant for Tobias. Then again, you’re always brimming with great ideas, so you probably don’t need suggestions.

They don’t have the monopoly on that. Small dogs can be as much of a PITA when attempting to make the bed.

That sounds like a good breakfast cookie.

nellie, the jab that I got yesterday is the latest one. It was rolled out a week or two ago.

Fixing to work some more on Thanksgiving cards (I’ve done the cutting and embossing, now for ink and assembly) and chill until bedtime.

Love the dragon FCM.

Glad various knees are feeling a bit better.

I’m on my own again today. We have a friend from the valley visiting this weekend and she and Wifey are gone out photographing stuff. I elected not go with them. Since I am still on ‘light duty’ I’m hanging about practicing my sloth, and currently enjoying a tuna melt with oaxaca cheese and a diet Dr Pepper.

My dentist sent me a letter recently telling me that, after years of needing nothing but cleanings, he wants to give 6 ( :scream:) fillings, to the tune of just over $1,000. I prolly should let him do it, but Ima talk to my cardiologist next week and see if that’s something I can do right now, or even soon. Le sigh.

Wifey mentioned to some friends of ours up in Maupin that we were about ready to put our little house there on the market and one of them wants to buy it. We’ll see if they try to talk us down too much.
That’d be good though. We need to get out from under 2 mortgage payments.

I’m still mucking about with my new 'puter, when I have the time. I’m really liking the hardware. From the time I push the power button to the time it’s ready to rock is like 15 seconds! Some of that might be windows 11. I dunno.
On the other hand, there’s a reason I built my own computer last time and installed a clean version of windows 7. Feckin pre-installed software that I neither need, nor want. I removed McCafee immediately And installed Avast, and then, when I found the DVDs, I removed Office 365 and installed my old MicroSquash Office 2007. I don’t do subscriptions. Screwem. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Costco sent me a email asking me to review my new box. Maybe I should, though I doubt it’ll change anything.

Our boys were almost as much ‘help’ until they got too old to jump up on the bed. Then they would just sit on the floor and watch us, looking mournful. So when we got through we’d pick them up and toss the on the bed with us for scritches.

My PCP told me I could quit taking Metformin for my blood sugar 'cause it was causing me to have almost uncontrollable diarrhea and wrote me a prescription for an injectible called Semogltide. (Ozempic). He also said I could go off of Glipizide 'cause it doesn’t do much. (his words), Well, the pharmacy wants $74.00 for what I assume is a moths worth. I decided that before i spent that much on new medicine, I’d try an experiment. Yesterday morning I dug out my old vial of Glipizide and took one. Yesterday’s blood sugar was 187. This morning’s reading was 114. So I took another Glipizide this morning and if my sugar is down again tomorrow I’m ditching yje Semoglutide. I don’t like needles anyway.
Besides, I’ve still got sore spots from where they stabbed me in the hospital on Monday.

Well, that’s enough outta me. Rosie’s sig and have a good week.
