(Old) Are you a "leaf peeper" in the MMP?

I’m glad that you weren’t too badly injured nellie. Be careful! I would hate to have to go west to visit you in the horsepistol.

Your SIL is likely conflicted over the death of his father Mooooom. That happens a lot when the relationship is complicated.

Hugs to you and your family wordy.

I hope that the antibiotics do the trick herald. Cellulitis is painful.

Irked, came home, walked Nelson, et and played around in the studio. SSDD.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Even no cooking folks visit the grocery store on a regular basis. Besides needing toilet paper, the routine is still there.

When hubs goes (hopefully many years in the future, unless I murder him for leaving pens in his pants pocket first), my diet will change a whole lot and I will gradually start cooking things I like instead of things we like.

No blood clots is always a good thing, cellulitis not so much. I’m glad you got it figured out and I hope you heal quickly.

I am so glad that it works, constant migraines are soul sucking.

I know my new tree(s) look unimpressive, but just wait until next year. I’ve wasted most of the day just looking at them and smiling.

Up from naptime, having a Manhattan. Redneck stirfry on the menu for dinner tonight.

Announcement:

Glad to hear it’s helping

Flyboy, I’d almost say it would worth your while to rent a 172 for that trip.

: clutches pearls :

It looks like it’s been crucified.

I need your advice, Mumpers. I showered but did not apply alcohol because I remembered it’s not recommended for open wounds, something about it harming cells? Also, he recommended hydrogen peroxide as an alternative, and I know that’s not recommended. The pre-op instructions said not to use Neosporin due to danger of infection. Should I follow orders or just hope for the best?

Doggio, that resentful squint makes the note even funnier.

JtheC if you put an “INRI” sign on top of the tree, you’ll be my new bestest friend!!

I’d ask your primary surgeon first thing in the morning. Sucks that you’re getting conflicting advice, but IMO whoever you saw last after your fall was kinda phoning it in.

Is your cat an ex-stray? The left ear appears tipped.

I have no idea why, but my right foot is insisting it’s injured, and I don’t recall doing anything to it. As much as it’s hurting, I’m SURE I’d remember doing something to it that was drastic enough to cause this.

I wish I could! The PA I saw yesterday was his PA. If I call, I get the the surgeon’s team’s VM, and the nurse or tech who might or might not call me back will abe t most ask the PA. Ditto if I try to contact the surgeon through the portal. It’s what passes for health care in 2023.

Interesting nickname/request combo!

Spot has RBF, so that why the picture works.

Yeah, he’s a TNR graduate. Which explains the trust issues.

I’m dying over here!

Which is helpful because I’m still all HUH over our next door neighbor.

When they moved in, they went and got a couple of big unruly dogs to put in their unfenced yard and ignore. The dogs thought they liked pooping in our yard better than their poop filled yard and we complained. The neighbor thought we were being unreasonable because they didn’t have much money, but they were working on training the dogs. Animal Control agreed with us and they cobbled a 4 foot tall fence together.

Of course the dogs could jump the fence anytime they wanted and they also thought that since they pooped in our yard, it was theirs to protect. As a result, delivery drivers started refusing to visit because they were afraid of the dogs.

We had a 6 ft brick wall built between our yards. This worked to stop the dogs from reacting whenever anyone was in our yard, but it also killed one of our Sierra Pines. Specifically, the one shading their house and front yard. There is a smaller one shading part of their front yard and is the only part of their property with any sort of shade so they put the kid toys and dog house in that little patch of yard.

So, today they noticed that we had 5 trees planted but none of them were going to replace their shade tree and this is totally unacceptable. I suggested that he plant a shade tree in their yard which was just heartless because we know they have kids and she is a SAHM and they don’t have money for that plus they have to pay for rent and groceries and now the kids needed new school clothes.

I listened until I got bored and told him that his kids and dogs were not our responsibility and closed the door in his face.

This is my first experience with living next door to a bad neighbor and I will be so very happy when he loses the place due to no money.

Evening all. Soccer has been coached (7 year olds can be frustrating at times…) and dinner has been assimilated, so all is right with the world. Back to 70F now, so another night of open windows and no AC. Reading some new webcomics to see if I like them or not, outside of that not much activity around the house.

JtC, been lucky to live in a quiet neighborhood, no loud or rowdy folks around here. Neighbor sounds like the type that would be a pain anywhere they were located.

Pilot, Nellie, I’m also a pet-free person, when I was working I was traveling a lot and it just didn’t seem fair to have a dog (I’m a dog person) when I would be leaving it 5-6 times a year for up to 2 weeks. Now I’m retired but just to set in my ways to have a pet. Doesn’t mean that any dog I encounter that wants scritches won’t get them…

Nettie, sometimes our bodies do weird things. I had a sharp pain in the knee a week ago, but only when I sat down on the porcelain throne in the bathroom…otherwise I had no pain (it’s completely gone now, no idea why I had it). Hope the foot gets to feeling better.

OK, need to finish up the internetting and head off to bed. Between gym and 7-year olds I’m a bit tired.

Preach it, sister!

And looking at your new trees made me smile too (elm borer beetles took out three century trees in front of my house-I sure miss them and their shade in the summer).

Your understanding about alcohol and hydrogen peroxide is the latest findings about both those ‘antiseptics’ re: broken skin. They both destroy tissue cells.

If I was you, I would avoid using both pieces of advice to use them. Soap and water and keeping the stitches and laceration/incision covered by a bandage and clean is the current, best, most up-to-date information. Neoporin et al has been found to be useless but is often still recommended because a. the doc or PA wants to do something to make the patient feel cared about and b. then the patient will shut up and go away. Lots of unnecessary prescriptions get also written because of a. & b.

Soap and water, keep it clean and covered. Don’t kill off healing tissue cells with alcohol and/or hydrogen peroxide. This grizzled, cranky old night nurse would do that if it was her knee.

Think about many years down the road. There’s a school here in town that has a lane of pin oak trees planted by my grandfather. They are huge and gorgeous.

You’re neither grizzled nor cranky, and though you might feel like it at times, you’re not exactly ready for the Happy Gums Rest Home. Thank you SO much! I’m baffled as to why the PA would recommend either alcohol OR HP. I am keeping it covered, partly because it’s (spoilered for the weak of stomach) still oozing a little blood. I still don’t have a lot of faith in this PA, but he and the surgeon are a package deal.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 91 and partly N.O.S. We had a bunch of rain last night, which was lovely. This is the day we usually procure provisions, but that ain’t happenin’. I told OYKW last night that I did not want to go anywhere today. I’ve been out and about several days in a row, so I need to hole up in da cave today. It’s just been way to peopley for me. So, we’ll do that another day this week. Or not. Really not a lot of stuff we need. So high sloth and general overall uselessness are the agenda for the day. Sup shall be leftovers from last night’s sup.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Interestingly, while I was prepping the dog’s food and meds this morning, I suddenly noticed that my arm was bleeding. It was fine 15 minutes earlier when I got up. I have absolutely no idea what I did to cut my arm. Thankfully, it’s just a small cut and it’s done bleeding already.

I’m ready to fillet a certain feline. Somehow, she wound up in the bedroom when I went to bed and closed the door (FCD was watching TV and I didn’t want to hear it.) Stoopit cat waited till I got an hour or so of sleep before banging on the door and yelling enough to wake me. So I let her out, emptied my bladder, and went back to bed. Except I couldn’t sleep. For 3+ hours I couldn’t sleep, dammit. None of my tried-and-true methods helped, but some time after 2AM, I finally dropped off. And woke around 6:20. I’d have stayed in bed but Higgs is supposed to have her meds on a schedule and they were already an hour late, so I got up.

It’s gonna be a long day.

FCD is now on the board of Daughter’s school. He’s going to be taking charge of the repairs/upgrades that the county is requiring. I’m hoping he doesn’t come to regret this - having to deal with parent volunteers and such.

Big plans for today involve laundry and frolicking with Tobias in the basement. Rain is forecast as a front moves thru. I also need to think about something for supper so I can pull a hunk o’ meat from the freezer. It’s so hard to be me!!!

Happy Wednesday!!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 58F, dark and cloudy outside. The cloudy skies will be become partly cloudy by this afternoon and the expected high temp is 75F.

Work was grueling, and it was a long day. Still pushing back and I’m not apologetic about it at all. I suspect today will be another long day, but at least I’m not commuting.

johnny, that sounds like a sucktastic commute. By the time you got in it was almost time to turn around and come back home!

Good luck to FCD for being on that board. I don’t think I’d want to do that.

JtC, yay for trees! I love trees and I think it’s wonderful you planted some. Also, they grow and one day you’ll look at them with shock because they will have grown so much. Also, boo to sucky neighbors. Welcome to the club; although it’s not a club I really like being part of.

Everybody keeps asking if we’ll get a new dog after Polar is gone. The true answer is; that I don’t know. On the one hand, I can’t imagine being without a dog or two; on the other hand, it would be nice to not be tied down with care and be able to pick up and go without worrying about boarding and care in our absence. Plus, it’s usually me running the dogs to the vet for appointments, shots, etc.

Speaking of weird pains. I woke up a few nights ago in terrible pain that started at my ankle and radiated up my lower leg. The pain was in the bone, and it was excruciating. I don’t know what I did, but it felt like I’d broken it. Over the course of an hour, the pain subsided, and by morning it was gone. I have no idea what the hell happened to cause that.

Sending yays, hugs, and boos as appropriate. I need to get that kitchen the rest of the way cleaned up and start my work day.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 17c/63f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This is the perfect type of weather to not eat fucking Tide Pods. Serious. just stop with the fucking dumb internet challenges.” I agree with that

Wordy I’m glad to hear you got through the funeral ok, I love the joint eulogy idea too. I always think that once the funeral is over, you can really start to heal, even though there might still be stuff to work through (estate stuff, house clearance etc), you’ve got through the horribly numb emptiness between death and funeral, the part where you’re just waiting for it all to be over.

Moooom my mum gave up on cooking in her later years, she cooked the occasional dish but often lived on frozen meals. We have some very good places you can order meals from that cater specifically to older folks, she liked their food and the service was always good. She still liked to go to the supermarket, I think it gave her an excuse to go out and something purposeful to do. I often turned up to visit and was presented with something that she’d seen, decided I needed and so she bought it for me. Or a tin of fish for the cats she wasn’t particularly fond of!

Taters strange and nasty pain! I’m glad to hear it’s better and hopefully hasn’t returned. I know what you mean about another pet, we were conflicted about having cats after losing Ophie and Whisper, then decided Shadow was lonely so we have the foster girlies. It’s still my job to do the vet visits and suchlike, 'im indoors says he can’t walk 10 minutes up the road with a cat in a carrier - I do it because I can drive up there but really it’s a waste of petrol as it’s such a short distance.

flyboy that’s a monster commute! Google says mine is 44mins to drive, and 1hr 15mins by public transport. That is a fiction if ever there was one, it’s a 44min drive at 2am when there’s absolutely nothing else on the road - I don’t drive very often but whenever I have to, I’ve never made it to campus in less than about 2hrs.

Pilot happy birthday, and happy retirement day! What better gift to yourself than to become a useless drain on society?

Today has been icky. I set aside some time this morning to get on with a particular job and haven’t even started it yet because lots of other little faffy things came along instead. Seems like all the academics have woken up from their summer sleep and suddenly decided they need stuff.

lslguy, happy birthday and happy retirement. may you have many healthy and happy years.

Morning all. Got a good 8 hours of sleep last night and the temperature is only 71F this morning, so we’ll see how long it is until I need to turn the AC back on. No rain in the forecast but a fair amount of clouds outside, so the sunburn should be minimal. Only planned activity is to head over to Duluth Trading for a couple pairs of jeans and then do my swimming and sauna, otherwise it should be a fairly slothful day.

FCM, any idea where the cut came from? I get that now and then, those ‘mystery’ bleeds, guess we bump something and don’t even realize it. Hope FCD does well on the board (and doesn’t try to do too much on his own).

Well, you could tell them to stuff it, but that woulndn’t be proper… Best of luck.

OK, need to break fast and then consider cleaning up and heading off to try on jeans. Take care all.
