(Old) Autumn Equinox - changing colour in the MMP

Morning all. Woke up to a bladder alert at 5am, then went back to bed until 8am, because I can. Have broken fast with a big bowl of Cheerios and an apple so that should hold me for awhile. Will dress and head out on the braunschweiger run once I finish this. Gym and soccer coaching will occupy the balance of the day. The rain here is due to start tonight and looks like a pretty constant companion through Friday. Still warm though; already 80F heading to 90F.

FCM, thanks for the info and honest to God, I didn’t even notice how using the word ‘charges’ looked there. Concur that probably not sharing the insurance info with MIL is best, just have to watch your conversations, and happy boat movement.

Sticky Buns, so are you yelling at your Doc or the Insurance folks ts morning. And I see from a later note that the Doctor is the stinker in this one. Take care.

Cupcakes, Atilla is a long-lived feline, and I haven’t even done the math (just did the math) and glad to her he’s still doing well; a tribute to you care.

boo fae, nice to get a free shot for Shadow, hope it helps.

OK, mornng traffic should have died down so off to the store and the remainder of the day. Have a good 2sDay all.

So today I was loading. But since it was just a 2 car set, and it hadn’t been (wrongly) preloaded, it was the easiest load I’ve had in a while. Although my got harshed by the 2 artificial Christmas trees in the load. Like, dude, can I have some anatomically incorrect skeletons and sugar based debauchery before you go full Mariah? I did my Aldi run, $70 bucks this week. But I got enough meat to give me the meat sweats for a week. It’s been raining off and on all morning.

Shrieking fucking hippies raining down from the sky would be pretty bad.

It is.

What is she gonna do, beat you with her walker?

One of the package cars I loaded had a bulk ground stop for the local Dodge dealership, but it also had an Next Day Air for it. I wonder if he’ll be scheduled for 2 stops on that.

You and MetalMouse might want to stock up on hurricane(party) supplies, since Helene is headed your ways

Every state has a State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to assist older residents with exactly these issues with Medicare, for free, with trained accountable advisors. Here’s your Maryland SHIP:

The feds require states to provide SHIP to seniors to navigate Medicare. Ship advisors are non-partisan, meaning they are NOT like all the brokers proclaiming “let us save you hundreds of dollars a month on your Medicare and you’ll get a debit to use for groceries, blah, blah, blah”. Those are all brokers who get a hefty commission for “advising” you into plans favorable to them the broker and plan, not necessarily you the covered Medicare client and they are not at all upfront about that.

You wouldn’t want an Advantage plan for her anyway. I lost track of my clients who died waiting for their Advantage plan to authorize and actually provide some essential service or equipment. I’m not exaggerating, people died waiting for outpatient chemotherapy, breathing equipment, a hospital bed.

Talk to your SHIP. It’s free, paid for by your (her) federal tax dollars, your advisor won’t be motivated or biased by commissions and they are accountable to give good, reliable advice that works for that state. Mine was very helpful de-mystifying everything for me when I had used up my COBRA eligibility (divorce) and needed to make all those decisions about signing up for Medicare, A &B, plus a drug plan (Part D). To get complete coverage for her they can help parse out whether she needs a Medicare ‘supplement’ to cover what A &B plus a Part D (and her hospice acceptance) doesn’t. There are a lot of supplemental plans and you need to choose carefully to cover what might be needed and one that her doctors are in network for. In my case, my SHIP advised me to go with a BC/BS plan F, with that monthly premium automatically taken out of my Social Security. With my supplemental I haven’t even had to pay a co-pay much less an any ‘not covered’ or ‘sorry, out of network’ in nine years.

Afternoon all. Braunschweiger run is completed and stopped by the Dodge dealer since my tire pressure was showing as kPa (Kilopascals) instead of PSI, and after a couple minutes of fiddling he got it back to pounds so I tipped him $5 and came on home. Off to the gym in a little bit for some pedaling and sweating, then soccer practice. The region also bought us coaches jackets as a gift, need to remember to pick mine up tonight.

BBBoo, thanks for the SHIP advice, may stop by there and see what they have to say. And I concur, I do not have a Medicare advantage plan (still have my old work insurance on my retirement).

I also bought a package of wieners today, just in case…

I just had some Wegman’s delivered via Instacart – including a yummy turkey and provolone sub from their deli – so it’s the perfect time for a lunch break.

It’s another chilly and overcast day (currently 63°F with an expected high of only 67), but I haven’t needed to turn the heat on yet and it’s still comfortable enough in the house. Though I am wearing sweatpants and slippers as a concession. No windows are open, but I do have the storm door’s bottom pane open a couple of inches for the dog’s entertainment (it’s always better when she can smell the neighborhood vs just looking at it). I have a personal training session right after work, and might bring a fleece to the gym for the first time this season…though the Wegman’s delivery means I no longer need to go to the store afterwards, so I might just tough out the chilly 8-minute drive there (I’ll be glad for the cool air when I leave!).

I’m happy to report that a night’s sleep fixed my elbow pain! There is still a bit of soreness if I poke at it, but simply using it – fully extending my arm, lifting something, leaning on my desk, etc. – doesn’t hurt at all. Yay! Now I’m sure that I just slept on it wrong Sunday night. I’m relieved.

But that’s what the first F stands for…:

…which is why I asked. Is the second F for “Fat,” then?

Heh!

Every now and then a mobile sharpening company comes to my neighborhood. They were here last October, and I added up how much it would cost to sharpen my knives and scissors: $$! I realized that I only really cared about my scissors, and decided to look into doing it myself…and ordered a $21 scissors sharpener from Amazon. It works well, and I have lots of pairs of scissors around the house so it’s cost-effective.

Yep…hence the “~90 minutes of triage” on Sunday evening.

I already loved you, and now it’s close to an obsession…mention Haagen-Dazs rocky road and I might propose.

And the Phish Food marshmallow swirl is definitely the best part!

(Man, I miss pigging out on ice cream. I’m still allowed to have it, but these days I can’t eat enough to make it worth buying. Every now and then I’ll have a scoop as a part of a restaurant dessert, but I miss the days of sitting on the couch and housing a pint!)

Right?? Meh.

Here’s how find your SHIP office. My bonked brain went on work stoppage today and I can’t remember exactly which state you are in (except that it is a state with a lot of really lucky kid soccer players and somewhat in the same region as FCM):

I called my SHIP and made appts to meet face-to-face with an advisor in a study room at my local public library that was convenient to both me and their office (which was in a stultifying state office building which both of us were happy to avoid). That was 8 years ago~nowadays you might have to make contact by email or text.

The first F stands for Fat.

I haven’t been around lately (dealing with some generalized anxiety/depression), and I’ve missed SO much!

FCM, I was typing out a long bit about the various Medicare supplement and replacement pros and cons, but in the meantime, BBBoo said it better (and much more succinctly)! I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever had a pair of scissors sharpened; I’ve taken my good knives to Joanne’s for sharpening a few times, but the last time I tried that, the guy who does the sharpening was having people drop off their knives and leave them with him for a week. Since then, I’ve just sucked it up and done my own sharpening.

The other members of my household are fond of butter pecan ice cream, but I’m another one who doesn’t like a lot of stuff in my ice cream, especially hard chunks.

Mr. L once cut himself on a B52 when he was working for an AF subcontractor. We still see them flying out from the base occasionally.

Now I have to go up to my inlaws’ old house with my daughter to get a rocking chair for her sister. When they were babies, we got a rocking chair that had belonged to my MIL’s grandmother. She always said every generation of babies had been rocked in it. We sent it to Mr. L’s cousin when she had her first child, and I’m sure her younger sister would send it back to us if we asked, but at this point, since the entire family doesn’t live in Iowa anymore, I’m unilaterally changing the tradition and giving her a chair that only goes back three generations. I always dread going up to the house; if it were up to me, we’d clear it out, sell it, and move on, but Mr. L can’t bear the thought, so there it sits in the middle of nowhere. A neighbor expressed interest in buying it after my FIL died in 2020, and he’s been looking after it since then. One of these days…

Happy belated birthdays to the Mumpers who celebrated last week!

Thanks so much for the link - I may make FCD deal with it since it’s his mother…

I took MIL when I went to see BIL. Got him all straightened out, with a tiny little sorta fib - I let him believe I called the Dept of Trans when in fact I got an info sheet from a MD bicycling group FB page. I also discovered that the page he saw that talked about registration was for the UMD campus. After teaching him the difference between .gov and .edu, I think he believes me.

FCD got a message that the bike will be delivered here tomorrow, but I told BIL it would be in the next few days and I arranged for us to bring him here on Sat when it’s assembled and FCD has a chance to test it and learn how it works. So yay for that.

However, while I was going to pick up my yarn, apparently MIL and BIL had a spat. She has been nagging him (sorry, no other word for it) to go shopping at WalMart because she thinks he needs stuff, even tho he doesn’t think so. On the drive home, she was saying something about disrespectful children. This child is 65… I’m staying out of it.

Anyway, one of my yarns is slightly not the right shade, but I suspect it’s a dye lot issue. It’s close enough so I’m not going to fret about it. I should have this first blanket done today. So I guess I’d best get back to it.

Such an interesting life I lead…

:musical_note: It’s raining, it’s pouring
The old Shoe’s been snoring :notes:

Nope, coffee. Guess the marriage is off?

Though they were out last time (!!) so there’s a consolation pint of chocolate-chocolate chip in the freezer.

I already loved you after of your earlier mention of H-D coffee…B&J Phish Food led to the borderline obsession…the trifecta would have been H-D rocky road. Two outta three ain’t bad, but not good enough for matrimony.  :kissing:

Ya win some; ya lose some.

Its good to hear from you again, but wow, this is distressing. Houses that aren’t lived in start breaking and the plumbing usually goes first. I hope Mr. L comes to his senses before something major breaks.

That’s why I’m always scared to not have all of my same colored floss before starting a project. One would think that DMC colors would be pretty standard. One would be wrong.

Of course, I stress about things other people can’t see so there is that.

@The_Stainless_Steel_Rat how do you keep track of your laps? The rec center’s pool is a standard Olympic sized lap pool and a mile would be 32 laps. I’m pretty sure I swam more than three laps because I remember going both ways more than three times but it seems as though water doesn’t allow me to count past three. (I can count to 15 when I’m stitching, but of course I go back and double check before moving on.)

Story of my life.

We also got a nice rain. It went from sprinkle to gully washer in no time at all and then when there were puddles on the lawn, went back to sprinkling for another hour. It was coming straight down so I happily sat on the porch and watched it. I don’t think it’s ever going to get old.

We weighed the fuzzbutts today because I was pretty sure Jolene was looking bigger.

GG lost almost two pounds after VBC died and wasn’t even eating a full can of gooshy fud a day. Jolene is a teen-aged eating machine and was inhaling all of her fud before sharing GG’s fud so their gooshy fud rations got increased to four cans a day because GG was eating his weight again as well.

GG is back to his fighting weight at 19.6 lbs. Jolene is 7.2 lbs which is almost a whole pound more than when we brought her home. Her fur feels so much nicer now as well. Shelter cats don’t get fed the best quality food and are stressed so don’t groom as well so their fur often feels kinda gritty. Now she’s clean and well fed and her fur shows it.

The moldering place across the highway continues to molder. The curtains in the living room have fallen off now but Hubs won’t let me go over and look in. He’s afraid I’ll fall through the rotten wood steps. That room has curtains on a wall that isn’t on the porch, when they fall, I’ll go and look in because I’m all nosy like that.

The rental place next door is for sale by owner which means I won’t be able to look inside on Zillow. This distresses me more than it should.

I had fruit flies in my condo, to the point of seeing them around in other rooms, and it was really annoying me, so I put out a homemade apple cider vinegar trap topped with holed plastic wrap. After a week, not only are there no dead fruit flies in the jar, but I haven’t seen a fruit fly at all since I put the jar out. I’m annoyed and a little disturbed. Where’d they all go?

Howdy Y’all! Stuff got did and then we resumed our RDOS lifestyle. Looks like we’ll be stormed upon from tomorrow afternoon until sometime Firday, so glad everything got done today. Sup got made and et. Shrimpies 'n grits with roasted spareguts. YUM! Now I feed the need for Netflix, chill, and a little later on, popcorn.

I changed my mind - it isn’t a dye lot issue, it’s a different color. So I’ll go back and get the right color. Meanwhile, I started another one in blues and gray.

swampy, darlin, get yerself ready for Helene - being prepared should guarantee the storm won’t come anywhere near you. It looks like it could be a bad one.

In fact all in her possible path - get ready!

That’s just about the same size as Annie!

Mine is caramel chocolate cheesecake.

Does it freeze?

If he used an Android tablet, try this:

Parental Controls and Content Filtering on Android

  • Open the Google Play Store app from the application tray or home screen
  • Next, tap the 3 lines (menu) button on the top left
  • Select Settings
  • Scroll down and tap on Parental Controls
  • In settings you can control everything from when apps update, enable a password for purchases, and of course content filtering.

On an iPad, go into Settings and you’ll find the parental ones there.

Being this healthy, he may well live into his twenties.

Wow! He outweighs Nelson by 1.6 lbs.

We’re finally getting rain! It was raining a bit when I left irk, but the walkway wasn’t wet when I got home. However, about an hour ago, the storm cut loose. I hope that we get a few days of soaking.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up from naptime, much to the dispeasure of Spot. Watching preseason hockey. We have Rocco Grimaldi on the team, whcih is mainly notable because he once like my Tweet: Rocco Grimaldi? Sounds like a Mafia Enforcer.

So you’re ready for the wurst case scenario.

[Mom]Don’t pick at it.[/Mom]

Haagen-Dazs sells singles.

The missing socks came out and ate them.

Same with Spot.

Things that make you go hmmmm?

We are having heavy rain and thunder boomers now and the weather guessers say the rain will continue until Tuesday. Bring it on says me!

Oopsie!!! I’m sure you will be able to use the wrong color for another lap robe. It is so nice of you to do this.

Perfect size to carry around with one hand. Does Annie have a tiny little bark? Hubs calls Jolene Squeaky because she has a dinky meow. I’m trying to nudge him back to Jolene because she is a man stealer, not a man killer (Squeaky Fromme).

According to what I have read, the texture degrades when frozen.

I did try frying some and it was very reminiscent of fried baloney hunks. It didn’t taste anything like baloney but the nostalgia was there.

Next time I’m frying slices with eggs to serve on toasted english muffins with mayo and tomato slices.

Does anybody ever listen to that?

I’ve noticed how his black fur just glows now. He did look a little shabby when he first invaded your home.
