(Old) Be-Labor-ing a Point. An End of (Meteorological) Summer MMP

I remember before i involuntarily left you used to do MMP-like posts on her HS years and she was going to college in Florida and hubs had accepted a job there for a year or two and you weren’t impressed but went anyways…

Just finished dinner. Tilapia rubbed with olive oil, sprinkled with kosher salt, topped with fresh rosemary sprigs and lemon slices, and baked in the toaster oven set to 400ºF for 22 minutes starting from cold, served with asparagus seasoned with kosher salt.

And red wine. (‘With FISH??? :worried: :face_with_raised_eyebrow:’) Yes, red. I only drink white wine when we’re out of red. And we’re never out of red.

Good evening all. Been a fairly active day, after my morning message I went to the local county tax office to pay my property taxes, but they are closed until Mid-September. I could have left it be until then (not due until 1 October), but like FCD I can be a little single-minded at times, so headed over to the main office about 20 miles away. Got right though to the desk and 6 minutes later I had the receipt for payment and was heading home…but stopped at the gym first, had some calories to pedal away for a couple of hours, then came home to change for soccer practice, which went well. Got home after 7pm and was ready for my cheeburger, but it hadn’t defrosted yet, so settled for some sammiches and will eat my Cheeburger tomorrrow. In my comfort position now and internettin’ and readin’ and maybe some tackleball watching will dispose of the rest of the evening.

FCM, probably better if someone else rather than family tries to talk MIL out of a visit; and she might still be around in November, stubborn old folks do not go gentle into that good night… And I get the occasional frozen ham-n-cheese sammich pack, they are not too bad and for a quick bite in the middle of the day, fairly convenient.

And happy birthday to Daughter-unit!

flyboy, glad they got the computer up and working. Then I read about all the issues you had and wondered if maybe it should have stayed broken…? And I have free checking, so no worries at my end.

God Bod!!! . Nice to see you back in the environs. Conga-rats on the Dean’s list. And yeah, capitalism is not a great system; just a bit better than most anything else man has tried…

Cookie, sounds like a fun (and food-oriented) weekend, enjoy. And in general pedestrians are treated well down here in Ali-bama, not as ground-skeet.

rocky, never been to a Masonic temple, might have to see if any around here allow visitors.

JtC, down here in N. Ali-bama we have window blinds and the thought of drapes is never considered for most homes. Why, I don’t know, it’s a Southern thing, I guess. And I want to see that same picture you posted but from mid-January…

red, small or large, it’s always nice to be recognized.

Whew, hope I’m caught up, hugs, hopes and hi-jinks to anyone I missed, it’s time to do some browsing and then head off to bed. Take care all.

Yeah, I have free checking too. Which is why I’m so annoyed at the unwanted change. I do have sufficient direct deposits for free checking, but I shouldn’t have to.

Up from naptime, watching Handegg, drinking a Mexican Firing Squad, and eating Bojangles seasoned fried chicken.

Gin.

Besides, a day off with no money sucks anyways.

I used to dream of the day when use food stamp workers would get a “good job” for doing a good job. It never happened and one day I walked out mid shift.

I can’t see any reason for you to tell the nurse that. The nurse already knows MIL can’t travel and would never give the OK for such a thing.

I agree that cleaning with vodka always helps my mood.

I hope you don’t take this wrong…but you are a man. The only reason Hubs has curtains in his room is because I bought them and told him to put them up.

Besides being decorative, thermal/black out curtains can make a huge difference in heating and cooling bills. Mini-blinds block maybe 10% of the light and heat/cold, black out curtains block out so much more. We tend to spend more time in different rooms at different times of the day or night, there is no reason to let the unused rooms heat up if we aren’t there to enjoy it. The fuzz-butts hang out where we are and don’t really have a choice in my decorating choices anyhow.

Or maybe they do, I bought Jolene a pretty little pink fluffy kitty bed and she hasn’t even looked at it. GG loves it and looks so adorable that I think I’m going to buy a fluffy pink blanket for their loveseat.

I keep forgetting to tell you guys about the “Quality Drug Testing” business on the way to town. It is a big two story brick building with a decently sized parking lot. (I pay attention to that sort of thing now that I live in the land of parallel parking is normal)

There is an external door on the second floor. There isn’t a landing or stairs or a fire ladder or anything, just a door and then SHIT!

Hubs and I joke that the door is how they do the drug testing. “Just take this cup, go through that door.” The ones who don’t go out the door pass their test, LOL!

The rich people’s HT has a 2nd story roll up door above the regular loading dock door. For defenstrating shoplifters? Door Dashers with a London double decker bus?

I use both.

It is when you’re at work in an office and don’t have access to any cooking implements beyond a microwave.

Pretty sure E.R. nurses and surgical techs don’t enjoy the means to cook homemade meals during their shifts, either.

Personally, I wouldn’t “frame” green with more green.

Something that goes with green, red, and orange, though?

Hmm. Maybe a pale yellow, or ooooh, something lavender?

No, I don’t see what’s unethical about that at all.

But at minimum, I’d at least let the nurse know what’s up, and then let her - with her extensive experience dealing with patients in this mental state - handle it for you.

That’s what you’re paying her for, isn’t it?

True dat.

I’m exhausted. Retrieved my car this morning ($$ !) and had a fairly long close at work tonight, which really shouldn’t have been the case given how slow we were … other than the $480-something order that at least called hours ahead so we had plenty of notice.

In between all that, I was supposed to have maintenance come by to do their annual inspection today, but nobody showed up while I was home & I see no signs that anyone came by after I went to work, so … { shrug? }

By now I’m cranky, tired, and generally just irritated with life. I’m havin’ a smoke and carting my exasperated ass off to bed.

If inspection rolls around tomorrow and I wake up to a strange man wandering in my house, imma throw the unholiest of shit-fits, I swear to gawd.

Don’t they knock?

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/66f with a predicted high of 24c/74f, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s the perfect weather to clean your fucking house. If you have a llama, it’s also a good day to fucking brush your llama.” I have no intentions of cleaning anything, and I don’t have a llama

Taters I’m sorry to hear about your son, I hope he recovers quickly and has stern words with the hospital for not doing their job right in the first place.

Cookie have fun with the kids and the grands!

JtC there’s a lot of green out there for the summer but you might want to hold off on the curtain decision until later in the year. If all the leaves fall and you’re left looking at bare branches for months, perhaps green would work better for winter. Maybe change to the deep rose ones in spring/summer when the leaves are coming back in.

GodBod congrats on a successful year and making the kind of list you actually want to be on! Lots of my students have jobs to take the edge off student loans and to give themselves a little buffer for the unexpected.

Red it’s always good to be recognised for doing a good job, a little financial reward is a nice addition to the warm glow

Mooooom I think the hospice folks should be the first to tell MIL there’s no way she can travel, they aren’t going to agree to it so she will have to abide by their decision.

shoe I hope they at least knock before they come storming in!

I am very glad I am not at irk today, I managed two days on campus but by last night I was feeling really rough. I did the necessary chores when I got home, and made dinner but then didn’t want to eat it so mine’s in the freezer for another day. I went to bed, got up 13hrs later and I feel almost reasonable now.

I’ve got the day off because we’re going to Bristol later to see a band for their album launch party. Should be fun, and hopefully I’ll survive the event, I’ll be glad if I could just stop coughing for a while. Anyway, I haven’t got to drive, we’re going by train and don’t have to leave the house for another 3hrs or so, plenty of time to get showered, get my hair dried and drink lots of tea.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy. This will be the high for the day, as TWPTB say the temp will drop to 68 (BRRR!) Amurrkin when the rain starts around noonish. However, the temp will rise a bit overnight. Go figure. Anywho, fine by me as we have nowhere we either want or need to be. I’ll be happy to be inside and dry engagin’ in the usual RDOS inactivities.

BooFae hope you’re feelin’ well enough to go enjoy the concert.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

But then you have a limp, sad reminder of the crispy, yumminess that is grilled cheese, unless there’s a microwave that crisps also. Sorry, that’s just wrong. There are plenty of options that nuke up just fine - why settle for sad? You can’t convince me otherwise. :stuck_out_tongue:

Medicare actually pays, tho technically, any of us who’ve worked in the US have paid, right?

FCD will talk to the nurse before she gets here on Moanday. I think he should talk to AuntB also and have her say that she can’t handle MIL and UncleJ due to his deteriorating condition. And yes, he is getting worse - that’s not a fib, and she can’t manage 2 people on walkers even if she thinks she can.

SIL called last night - he’s got a slow leak in a tire that he’s been ignoring for a few weeks, but he can’t ignore it any longer. So he’ll be bringing it to Paul to be fixed/replaced and he’ll use our truck in the interim. That’ll get him here plenty early to stay with MIL, assuming she wakes while he’s here, which is kinda unlikely - she slept till noon yesterday. But he’ll he available till the dental tech is done making my toofies all clean and stuff.

I need to call the electric co-op today. We have a separate meter for the shop, so 2 bills, and only one was approved yesterday. No clue why VISA denied the other one. We’ll get it worked out, I hope. Maybe it was just a simple number error. Pain it the patoot either way.

I’ve also got a couple of medical bills to pay, fortunately on line, so no archaic check-writing for me! And FCD is going to the boatyard because they’re doing a short haul on our boat. That means they pull it out of the water, pressure-wash the scum off the bottom, then put it back in. We need to verify that all is well under the waterline. Then, with luck, we can go back to our home slip this weekend. Finally.

Other than that, it’s laundry day - regular laundry, since all the curtains are good for another 5 years or so. I’ll probably rollsuck, too. And the dishwasher needs to be emptied. And probably something else.

Happy Firday!!

**FCM ** I hope your MIL situation sorts itself out. Such a difficult position to be in.
Glad you got curtains done. Mine are needing it badly but I just can’t manage right now. I went shopping for groceries and cleaned my bathroom last weekend and now am in severe back pain.

I was taken off long term opiates for pain earlier this year (my doctor retired) and it’s been OK so far until now (was hit by a car at age 3 with serious injuries).
I have to try to rest after work.

My car is fixed. No more spatula noise under the hood. It was an inexpensive HVAC door actuator.

swampbear I like your temperatures better than mine. It is 50 right now at 7 AM with a high of 85 predicted.

Off to work.

Mornin’ all.

It’s 61F, dark, and mostly clear outside. It will be sunny all day, and our expected high temperature is 94F. Bleh.

I’m up and ready to take the pups to the vet in a couple of hours. I need to give them their morning blast of trazodone and anti-nausea medicine in a few minutes. I’ll be glad when this is over. I plan to see if they can send me home with more medicine for their ears because the ear infection did not clear up. I thought it was better, but they’re back to ear-flapping again.

Actually, I just gave the pups their trazodone. There are no anti-nausea meds for the morning. Maisie got a full pill last night, and Buster received half a pill. We can follow up with the second half tonight if needed.

My husband wants to go to breakfast after we drop the pups off. Well, at least last night he did. We’ll see how he feels this morning.

Speaking of my husband, I reread what I posted yesterday and need to clarify something. He’s never cold to my granddaughter in her presence. He’s warm and playful with her. She loves her grandpa and goes running for him when she sees him. However, he seems cold and distant when I talk about Zoe when he and I are alone. Frankly, he’s cold and distant but polite whenever I talk about any of them back in Missouri. It makes me sad.

FCM, wishing you the best with the MiL thing. I would have popped off by now, so I’m giving you enormous kudos for not doing so.

Flyboy, I’m sorry yesterday was such an annoying day. Sometimes, all the “minor” stuff stacked up on top of each other is too much. I have days like that, and I get it.

My son was doing better yesterday and is almost up to the point where he needs to be on the breathing machine. Hopefully, by tomorrow he’ll be back up to normal.

Red, congrats on being recognized for good work! That’s always nice.

JtC, I was thinking that you should wait until fall to see what the colors look like, but I think you need some contrast. Maybe choose a fall leaf color for the curtains so they contrast against the green, provide a sort of visual warmth for the winter, and work nicely with fall colors. Or, you could have fall winter curtains and spring/summer curtains, but that sounds like extra work and cost to me.

I need to finish my coffee and finish loading the dishwasher. My best to all.

Morning all. Slept in until nearly 8am today, outside of the Firday shopping, swimming and soccer, nothing much planned for the day. The AC is off, it’s 74F outside but will get only to the mid-80’s this afternoon, so fall is slowly creeping up on us.

Need to order some more water filters for the refrigerator and probably get a couple more pairs of 40" waist bluejeans from Duluth Trading, so that should add to my credit card balance. Still within the budget, though.

JtC, no arguments on your drapes conclusions, but there just isn’t that much of a demand and if you were to walk though the housing development I’m in, I doubt you’d see 1 house in 20 with curtains. Just an local thing, I guess.

Sounds quite human to me… Oh, and {{{ hugs }}}.

Boo fae, enjoy the Weekend, which has already started for you.

Just a quick note, the ones I buy (Lilly’s Toaster Grills) are pre-grilled, you pop them in the microwave for about 30 seconds to take the freeze away and then into the toaster to warm them up and bring the crunchy back out. 2-3 minutes tops with a bit of mess. Perfect for a snackin’ bachelor…

Six, glad car problem was an easy fix.

Taters, we all wear a face in public that isn’t always what it is in private. As long as he shows respect and love when with her, then be as happy for that. (IMHO..YMMV)
Good luck with the Pups. Glad son is doing better.

And time for me to do somethings or maybe do some other things, or maybe not do a damn thing at all. We’ll see. Have a good Firday all.

You guys are great! I think having summer and winter drapery is an amazing idea! Both colors will work with the furniture and wall art AND I have closet room to store the extra set. Thanks so much for solving that problem for me

Now I have something else to think upon. Hubs has suggested boarding the cats while the windows are being replaced instead of getting a motel room. I think that the cats would be happier being in a room with one of us than in a cage in a strange place with dog smells. He thinks I might need to be at the house with him because of unknown reasons.

I don’t think either of us need to be at the house when the licensed and insured window installers are here. They said that at one point all of the windows will be out before they start putting them back in so the bugs and outside weather will be coming inside and it is going to be super noisy.

I’m pretty sure that I will be happier hanging out with a couple of cats in a quiet motel room as well, but if any of you folks can think of any reason both of us should be here during the work, please tell me. I have time to change my mind at least three times.

That door is for pallets of groceries to be lifted by forklift or reach truck to the second floor. We had one for the box room and maintenance parts room on the second floor when I worked in the meat packing industry.

JtC, would a light grey with a hint of green, rose or blue work? The blue would compliment both the rose and green and the others would add just a touch of the desired color without being overwhelming.

You can make a grilled cheese on the stove for about that amount of time. Just sayin’.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted a load of towels in the dryer and clothes in the wash. After KP, I’ll hit Kroger up for groceries and gas, then swing by the tire place to air up one that triggered the low tire light when it got cool one night last week.

I’m putting off the rest of the houseirk until tomorrow, since I’m heading an hour north to go to a brew pub with SIL, my great nephew and a friend for a pre-Highland games party with one of my favorite local bands playing. The original plans were just SIL and me, but she invited my great nephew and one of her friends without consulting me. I don’t know why, but that kind of irritates me. I was the one who suggested the outing and, given that it’s in the town where she lives, invited her to come with. If GN is in a decent mood, he’ll not be a bad addition (mid twenties angst, sometimes he’s a PITA to be around), but frankly, taking her friend anywhere with alcohol involved is iffy (tbh, she did just lose her husband, so I feel bad for her, but I also don’t want to babysit a maudlin drunk either).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Teeth are clean again.

MIL is awake, going on and on about “back when I was a kid” with regard to this latest school shooting. I guess it’s better than insisting she’s going to Indianapolis. Incidentally, SIL had done some research about unaccompanied flying - if you’re in hospice, you must be with a carer. Period. So that’s that.

First load in the washer. FCD is still waiting for our boat to be hauled out - the boat before us required a good bit of cleaning. I don’t expect to see him till after lunch. And so it goes…

it sounds like there’s a possibly painful story behind that

the toaster oven things I don’t get is the peanut butter and jelly ones …since Smuckers uses the crappiest PB in anything they make with it it’s like eating their pb and j mix they have in a jar …

Semi chaotic day. And no more 6 days weeks for a while, that’s gonna hurt the ol’ bank account. So what does one do when you have an entire weekend off?

Yeah, got to watch out for The Vicious Chicken of Bristol.

Except the store is one floor, except for that bit of loading dock.
