(Old) Be-Labor-ing a Point. An End of (Meteorological) Summer MMP

I like broccoli, but dislike celery and most forms of peppers. I’m just weird.

Up from nap time, having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, and watching some Packers handegg. Making catfish tacos for dinner.

If you’ve ever eaten school food, you know.

It’s weird not setting an alarm on Saturday. YMMV.

Yeah, a day off is no good if you don’t have cash to do something.

True dat.

I was wondering if MetalMouse is going to start taking dance lessons like pilot did.

He’s gonna challenge for the Mirror Ball next season!

Sorry to disappoint, but Duluth Trading came up with the Ballroom name, all I know is that they fit good. As for dance lessons, I offer this piece of music on where I stand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGI2d31M7Ns

Talkie, best wishes on the job application.

FWIW, I get the ham-n-cheese sammiches (https://images.heb.com/is/image/HEBGrocery/prd-medium/005042006.jpg)

flyboy, you gonna walk like you do, need them calories.

Sticky Buns, so good news and bad news; hope the new MRI works out for you.

So soccer was practiced, only 4 of the 9 boys were there, it’s been a strange season with one team (the U9’s) having at least 9 out of 10 players there each practice but with the 10U’s I’m lucky to get 6 of the 9 players to show up. Strange.

Also got a small box from the Nielsen Ratings people in the mail, they want to talk to me and included $5 (in singles) for reasons TBD. Pocketed the money so guess I will listen to their spiel if they manage to catch me at home sometime.

And I think I’ll head off to bed, first game tomorrow is at 8am, so I need to get up early to medicate and have something to eay before heading out to the fields. Take care all.

To answer your question:

I used to work in a local steel mill when I was going to college and had to change the pink urinal cakes in the men’s bathrooms. The assertive aroma crossed the barrier between smell and taste many years ago and it instantly popped into my head upon encountering cilantro in my food.

A vile, soapy, chemical, PINK taste that took my appetite and left me in a state of retch.

I was curious if we still used these pink urinal cakes where I work. So I quietly slid into the men’s restroom (I knocked) to check out the situation.

No pink urinal cakes.

Instead, there was a tiny, red place mat lining the business area of the porcelain. Had the appearance of a flat apple shot through with holes. Apparently this is the newest technology to reduce urinal odors. The cleaning person explained that she changes them frequently.

I’ll be checking for urinal cakes during my travels but they are long gone from where I work.

Call me amazed.

Surprised to see quite a few of us here have that cilantro soap gene. I love Asian and Mexican food and have to be so careful when ordering.

I now know way more about urinals than I ever wanted to know. Dunno whether to thank you or put a curse on you…
Maybe I’ll just go sleepy-bye.

We went to Smuggler’s Tunnel for dinner and drinks, later than usual because Wifey, RN had a long day. I had an 8-ounce cheeseburger patty (and put the other 8-ounce patty with bacon in a box), a salad with blue cheese dressing, and two Hemingway daiquiris. Then we went to the supermarket. As I parked, a cop came up behind me. It seems my tabs are expired. He was cool about it. So when we got home, I ordered new tabs. $158, and the’ll be good for 7 days after I pick them up tomorrow. Then I’ll have to renew them for 2025.

I’m not blaming the Spousal Unit, but I have my way of keeping track of things, and sometimes she cleans off the table. Or maybe the renewal was lost in the mail. Or maybe I put it into the shred bin.

You go to the pub for a pre-games party! (the bands were definitely doggio approved tonight!)

Upstairs stockroom?

And you know this from experience? :d&r:

Me too.

Appendages crossed.

The evening went well. Both SIL and the great nephew were there, our friend only drank one beer, so she didn’t get to the maudlin stage and during the set after TSC, my great niece came in.

It rained all the way until I got a mile from home. Dang! We really needed rain too. I hope that we get the predicted rain tomorrow and Sunday.

DH and I are juggling contacts with insurance companies. DH is trying to have me handle as much as I can for him, since I’m free during business hours and he isn’t. Both involved companies seem to be doing their best to accommodate that scheduling challenge (and one rep’s in AZ while the other’s on Central Time, with us on Pacific, just to keep things really entertaining).

Went with magic Internet Chinese food. We’ll easily be able to stay fed all weekend on what was ordered (our preferred place is VERY generous with serving sizes, especially on fried rice).

That looks like a good choice for anybody who does not cook. And because I’m me, I would probably try a bite of one while it’s still frozen.

Both hubby and I strongly dislike cilantro, but we often forget to specify “no cilantro” when ordering. Both my parents like cilantro, so supposedly I might learn to like it. But I’m not worried about it enough to put in the time.

Today is the big company shin-dig, so that takes a big bite out of the middle of the day. Before we go, I need to do laundry, buy dairy (milk and 2 types of yogurt) and make sure I save all the vacation paperwork in the correct folder, so that it’s accessible while traveling.

Maybe I’ll do some plant trimming, but I can also do that on Sunday, as long as I use hand tools. I need to figure out where my recipe for fried green tomatoes is - I have a lot of green ones and the plants have collapsed since the storm last week. So the tomato plants are going in the compost, and the green tomatoes are going in my stomach.

Happy Saturday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 75 and rainy for the day. Bring it on, I say! We shall indulge in high RDOS inactivities as is our wont. My Dawgs play at two p.m. I shall watch them on the SEC network. We shall swipe the General’s sup (thanks Nettie!) from the takeout place down the road at some point for today’s main need to feed.

MOOOOOOM yay for the boat bein’ back in the water!

VanGo have fun with the chores. If I did that much in one day I think my RDOS card would be revoked.

Sticky_Buns nice of you to get those spoons all shiny to give back to the neighbor. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages are crossed re the potential gig and for this doctor to get it in gear and get your the correct knee MRI.

JtC glad that is all settled. You can loll in the hot tub whilst GG and Jolene loll in the hotel room. It’s all win-win! Hope the satanized chikin is as good as you remember. Several years back, I bought a can of Spaghetti-Os, seekin’ to revive a childhood memory. ICK!

MetalMouse they want you to rate teevee and stuff. You’ll be famous!

Six maybe urinal cake research could be your next career.

red glad the evenin’ went well and that you had a good time.

Nettie I believe you have resolved my dilemna about what to do for sup. I think we’ll swipe the General’s sup from the takeout place down the road. One order is way enough to feed both of us. I will order an extra aig roll so both of us can have one. We like our aig rolls!

Dicey have fun at the shindig!

Our Chinese delivery place is the same way - you’d have to be really really hungry to eat a serving at one sitting. The main issue is their minimum order requirement - we can meet the amount with 3, but not really with 2, so unless we have company (or MIL) we don’t really want to order from them because waaaaay too many leftovers. But I could drive over an pick up an order… no that’s crazy talk!

This reminded me - the yogurt I buy at Food Lion went from 2/$1 to 59¢ each. That’s an 18% rise in price!!! What’s the deal?? It’s not going to bust my budget, but couldn’t they gradually sneak up on the higher price? Dang!

I did something similar with TastyKakes - my favorite special treat when I was a kid. Either my palate has grown more sophisticated (unlikely) or they changed the recipe (like substituting some kind of oil for the butter they used to use.) They’re OK, but not the amazing treat I remember.

MIL wants to go to the Bible Study at her old apartment complex, then hang around for their Fall Festival Feed-a-thon (that’s my name for it - apparently it’s a major pig-out for the residents and their guests. She’ll be BIL’s guest.) The study is at 9 and the festival is at 2, so she’ll hang with her youngest son (and probably nap in his bed) then have us pick her up later in the afternoon. So I’ll be going to the boat with FCD, then maybe we can go out for lunch - what a concept!!

The only required chore for the weekend is cleaning the critter fountain, and I’m going to run some vinegar thru the ice maker to combat mineral build-up. If I get really ambitious, I’ll change sheets. Haha - yeah, that’ll happen! :stuck_out_tongue:

And so my weekend begins. Happy Saturday!!

Off to a cold morning with no heat.
Soon off to the College for the health fair!

Morning. First soccer game is at 8am, so I set my alarm for 6:30am so of course woke up at 5:15… Am breaking fast now and do not plan on passing out today, it’s 69F now and only getting to 80F for a high, so beautiful weather after two scorching Saturdays. Rest of the day will be devoted to sloth.

Six, as a frequent user of urinals, haven’t see the ‘cakes’ for awhile, most places use a place-mat device these days. (not that I pay much attention to them…)

red, glad things went well. And as for the predicted rain, none in sight here in N. Ali-bama and according to my weather wizards you have only a 2-5% chance this weekend for rain, albeit it will be cooler around your area.

Dicey, hope the company shin-dig is at least moderately interesting.

swampy, given the amount of TV I watch any single day, they’ll get pretty bored of me soon enough.

Happy Fairing Coppertone

And now I need to get dressed for chasing soccer players and such and remember all my gear (I’ll forget something, I always do). Take care all.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. And off. Spot is watching his shows in the sunroom.

Enjoy the healthy college students!

Man, it got chilly last night! I wound up in a hoodie AND sweater at work, while working the window.

Gave up & turned on the heat when I (finally) got home.

Went to bed with a slight headache, woke with same.
Finally dragged my carcass to Wendy’s around dawn for a square croissant, and treated myself to their potato wedges, too - quite yum, and boy did they hit the spot.

Relatively big, salty meal & tons of water seem to be tamping down the headache already.

Back to bed, I was utterly wiped out by the end of last night.

Shoe when I get my sick headaches (not quite a migraine but makes me sick to my stomach), I drink a lot of Gatorade/diet Dr Pepper/water and eat chips. You are right about salt and fluids helping. It has been medically proven. I’d provide a cite from the peer reviewed medical lit but I am a RETIRED librarian.

Good morning.

It’s 60F and partly cloudy outside. The day will eventually become overcast, with a high temperature of 86F. It’s also supposed to be fairly humid today.

It’s pretty hazy and smoky, too. When driving to the vet’s office yesterday morning, the sun looked like a giant red beach ball. It was pretty amazing. I would have taken a picture, but I was driving.

The surgeries were pretty uneventful, except for the lesion they found on Buster’s skin right next to where they needed to make an incision. I told them to keep on with the surgery and treat with antibiotics. So, besides the painkillers and trazodone, Buster must also take an antibiotic.

The pups are not fans of their e-collar/cones. Buster makes do, but Maisie hates hers and refuses to move when we first put it on her. She didn’t want to eat last night (I expected that), but I thought she’d be starving this morning. She still didn’t want to eat, so I took her cone off to be easier, but her appetite had not returned. On top of that, I found her cone/collar on the floor near the backdoor this morning, so I’m not sure if she managed to get it off or if my husband forgot to put it back on her when he let them out to potty.

FCM, I hope you get to enjoy your day.

Dicey, I hope your company to-do is fun or, at the very least, enjoyable.

I don’t have any real plans for the day other than trying to keep the pups under control. I don’t like them to be doped up, but today will be another trazodone day because Buster gets very pushy with that cone on his head. There is no way it’s coming off either because when I took it off to inflate it a little more, he immediately went to town trying to lick his incision sites. I’m sure he’s feeling the effects of razor burn, too (typical when the underbelly and scrotum area are shaved for surgery), so I probably need to get some Neosporin for him. So, for just a couple of days, I’m going to keep both the pups calm with anti-anxiety meds.

Alright, I need to get some more coffee. I have a low-grade headache that is just not going away. My husband woke me up in the middle of the night to tell me I was clicking my teeth, so the headache could be related to me clicking and probably grinding my teeth.

Yeah, entire Mitten state even during the day. Our daughter is attending a conference in Traverse City; it didn’t start until last evening. Her plane got in around noon and she was hoping to go to the beach which is 3 blocks from her hotel; well, too chilly for beach time. Here it was down in the low 50’s when I woke up and will only get to the high 60’s today. Boo.

wet one interesting about the salt and fluids positively impacting headaches; I did not know that.
