(Old) Be-Laboring A Point- An End Of Summer MMP

Morning, everyone! My employer pays us for 8 of the 11 federal holidays, and today is one of 'em. We don’t get Columbus Day, so the next company holiday will be Veterans Day (we also get Thanksgiving Day that month; I love November!). I’m only working Tues/Wed/Thu this week, though, because on Friday I’ll drive to NJ for a family wedding. I drive back a week from today, so next week will also be a short one.

Yesterday was long and tiring but good! It started with staffing my volunteer organization’s table at the Northern Virginia AFL-CIO’s Labor Day picnic. The location was a 35-minute drive from home, and I got there at a little after 11am: the event was from 12-3pm, but everyone started packing up at around 2:40 because it was so freaking hot! Even under tents! Bright sun all day, and I think the high temp hit 96°F. I had a small battery-powered fan with me and also brought my own drinks, but there was really no escaping the heat. It was a well-attended event, though, and I’m glad I could help my organization be there. I got home at around 3:30 and took a shower, then had less than 90 minutes to chill with the dog before heading to a friend’s 60th birthday party. He and his wife rented out a local VFW hall, and provided free drinks, live music, and dinner for ~100 people. It was a really nice evening, and broke up at around 9pm.

On the way home, I saw my very first meteor – and it was a fireball! :open_mouth: It was big and bright, and very surreal. I almost didn’t believe my eyes! When I got home and looked at FB, there was a post from the Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang about it. Here’s an article from last night (which I’ve gifted, so it shouldn’t be behind a paywall for anyone).

I was pretty tired by the time I got home – on top of the long day I think being in the heat for almost four hours took more out of me than I’d expected – but I stayed up for a couple more hours watching TV and unwinding. I slept pretty well and didn’t get up until around 8am, but I’m feeling a bit “off” today – like, an early afternoon nap might not be out of the question. I’m very grateful for the holiday and that I have no plans, and also that I have no need to go outside (except for trips to the back yard with Bailey): I think today is supposed to be even hotter than yesterday!

Oh yay! Congrats!!

Wow, two equally important anniversaries in the same month! (week?)

I’ll hit 20 years here in July. woah

Sounds like she chose wisely/got lucky! Excellent!

That’s a lot more! :open_mouth: I’m impressed!

Nice! :tada:
