(Old) Did Everybody Retire In The MMP?

I’m an RDOS.

I was up at a bit before 6am Eastern, so might have started the MMP an hour-ish before swampy so valiantly did so.

But GF was over, and (unusually for that hour) she was awake too, so the MMP took a back seat to other pastimes. She’s now home and I’m back to fiddlin’ with y’all.

I’m home, Honey!

I was busier than I had expected which is good. I like having this little produce shop available and want it to do well.

Folks mostly paid cash and were pretty nice about using small bills so I didn’t run out of change, but I was getting a little nervous the last hour. I’ve got almost twenty dollars worth of quarters in my car (long story) so I could have fallen back on that if needed.

I have the store’s float in my desk drawer. A hundred bucks in change, ones and fives. I am strangely uncomfortable about this, I don’t really like being responsible for other people’s money.

He does have his redeeming points. He knows that I’m mad at amazon. I’m not sure if he really understands my objections but he knows that I am boycotting them, so he is boycotting them in solidarity.

My watering can didn’t make the move so I need another one. I went to amazon and looked them up and showed hubs what I wanted (cheap plastic with a detachable sprinkler head, nothing fancy). He was very proud of himself for finding almost the exact thing at Lowes for a third less.

And then I didn’t show the pic either. Blame the drugs, LOL!

Those bastids!

So here is JtC’s theory of kitty kidney health:

Cats first evolved in the desert and got most of their moisture from their prey so didn’t really become big water drinkers. They didn’t need to.

But now they live in homes and eat dry crunchy bits and live in a constant state of mild dehydration. This is not good for their kidneys, they need the water to flush out all of the crap it has been filtering out.

Cats in the wild didn’t outlive their organs, nature isn’t kind to small fierce carnivores. Cats that live safe inside are able to die of age related causes and their abused kidneys are usually the first to go.

Adding gooshy fud to their diet helps their kidneys just by virtue of adding moisture.

Ours do not drink tap water, they get their filtered water in a fountain because they seem to like running water better. They get a tablespoon or so of warm water mixed in their gooshy fud twice a day and they do not get grain in their food.

Most days I put a little water on Ursula Kitteh’s gishy fud. She gets half a can in the morning then I cover it and put it in the fridge fridge so I add the water to the second feeding to mush it up.

Still no official diagnosis on the wrist. There are two bones in the wrist that are the most fractured. One is the scaphoid which if fractured requires three months in a hard cast. The second bone is the radius which requires 5 to 6 weeks in a brace. He is cautiously optimistic that if anything is fractured, it is the radius. I have to have a CT to confirm what exactly it is and I have to wait for insurance to approve it and call the ortho. Then the ortho will call me and I will call the hospital. Hopefully this will all be done by Wednesday. Everyone make an offering to the bone gods that it is not the scaphoid cause I can’t do three months in a hard cast.

Oh my gosh, I’m getting the vapors just thinking about it. I really hope it isn’t as bad as your doctor thinks.

Afternoon all. Have shopped and sammiched, been swimming and treadmilling and have lifted weights under the eyes of a trainer, so most of the afternoon has past. Will shortly dress and head for the soccer fields for practice, and pick up a burger and fries at Dairy Queen on the way home (and try to resist adding dessert…). It’s 83F outside, first day I haven’t had to put a jacket on this year, and is supposed to stay like this for the rest of the week. May pull the big heavyweight comforter off the bed and get the middleweight one on for the next 6-8 months.

JtC, sounds like you had some fun running the shop, And yeah for Hubs shopping skills!

Bravo!

Instead of fiddlin’ with…<wink, wink, nudge nudge.>

wet one, offerings made, keep us informed, will this affect your riding time?

And time to dress coach-like and get through the afternoon traffic to the field. Take care all.

I was up early today but I had to load my sewing paraphernalia and head to class. I just got home. It was a great class and I learned a few new techniques.

I just ordered a pizza rather than cook.

Howdy Y’all! I went to the noon Eucharist, figured out how to reassemble the two candles that go on the Altar in the Little Chapel (shiny brass candle stands are a no no for Lent, so they got disassembled for cleanin’ and I always have to stare at ‘em for a while before I remember how to reassemble), and had a nice chat with BP about nuttin’ in particular, just a yak over lemonade out on the patio. I did not accomplish nappage even, but OYKW did. He got a bit worried and texted me just as I was leavin’ the church. Sup got fixed and et and there are leftovers for tomorrow. Thus has been the day in swampland.

WetOne whatever it turns out to be, hope it heals soonest.

red hope you got sprung today, but if not, may it happen bright and early tomorrow.

We just had a 5,000 hour presentation from a salesman regarding putting a shower in our bathroom. To clarify, it’s on the second floor and it currently has a claw foot tub in our 151 year old house. In order to install a shower, just install a shower after removing the tub it’s going to cost somewhere between $19,000 and $28,000 depending on which part of the negotiation cycle he was in. And, to beat a dead horse, that was doing nothing else like replacing the floor or the sink which is probably 75+ years old. Nope. Just the shower.

/dead horse metaphorically beaten

This means war, dammit. When I was cleaning the balcony, I pulled the dead fuchsia from the flower box that’s on the edge of the railing. (I’d left them in because I read that sometimes you get volunteers. Wrong.) I came inside, turned around, and there was a squirrel poised on the window box. I was on the phone with one of my sisters and said to her, “Cover your ears!” And then yelled expletives in two languages at the squirrel. Sure enough, there was a peanut he was trying to bury and dirt scattered on the concrete floor.

You may not remember my battles with Norman Bates, the psycho squirrel, a few years ago. He was the one who’d sit on a short tree limb directly opposite my balcony and scream at me for 30 minutes straight because he’d buried nuts in a big planter I had and then got enraged when I covered the dirt with spiked strips. The screaming went on every day for weeks, and then stopped abruptly. I like to think a bunch of cheerful little Disney-esque woodland creatures danced him off and beat the shit out of him.

I put spiked strips weighted with a flower pot on the flower box for now. I’ll have to round up some rocks to put on there. And to think I used to miss squirrels when I lived in WY.

The blood tests showed my ANA is elevated again, but it’s a pattern not associated with lupus, so that’s SOME good news, anyway.

I don’t think so. The corporate overlandlords keep a skeletal staff and are pretty skinflint-y. There are 160 units in the complex and only one (overworked) maintenance guy. There’s one part-time secretary, but she just started and only works one day a week (the manager’s day off). They close the office at lunchtime. Then there’s the manager, and that’s it.

My sister said my cousin is worried about what I"m going to do. I owe her a call but am putting it off as she’s bound to bring up the economy, and let’s just say she has very different political opinions than mine. If she brings up tariffs, I’ll have to do the Leslie Jones Thanksgiving yell-down at her.

I love the colors in the piece you’re working on now!

Yoiks. I am praying this is not the case.

I once read somewhere that a fractured radius is the most painful fracture of all. Something about the radial nerve? In any case, I hope you find out soon and that it’s the latter.

Sticky, wowza on the estimate!

I hates to tell you this, but we had a walk in tub installed in our last place back in 2018. It was 13 G and no stairs were involved.

According to the interwebs, claw foot metal tubs are in high demand so maybe you could sell it to someone who will come and take it away as part of the deal. Of course that would only work if you have another way to shower, houses that old probably don’t have two bathrooms.

NOOOO!

That’s how I always felt when the neighbor’s cat was stalking the bird feeders. Asshole squirrel! And yes, I do remember your very entertaining (to me) tales of your psycho squirrel. Of course you remember it much better due to the trauma and all.

I am worried about you as well. Are your eyes able to handle WFH on a comp? This whole thing just sucks so hard and you don’t deserve what is happening in you life.

I do as well, Easter colors have always been my favorites…which might explain why our house has been decorated in old lady pastels since forever.

So we are happy with the insulation, but the guy who was supposed to finish up (nice crawl space door and dehumidifier set-up) and collect the check hasn’t called or texted. This is very confusing, most contracting companies want their money as soon as possible.

Hubs crawled under the house (he’s lost a lot of weight since his stents, he feels better so he moves more which stops a lot of the boredom eating he’s so fond of) and looked around. He’s pleased with what he saw but learned that the only pipes going to our septic tank are the terlits, everything else is just plumbed out to drain into the gully.

I’m not really happy about that, but there isn’t anything we can do about it now without spending a whole lot of money. I will be more mindful about the detergents we use.

We have a lovely storm happening now. Hub’s cousin who lives up by the panhandle sent us pics of him holding golf ball sized hail balls and that storm has moved in.

The temp has dropped ten degrees in the last hour, rain is pounding and thunderboomers are happening. It is glorious.

In other news, TC friend back at the lakes reported the first 100 degree day of the summer, but they did get an inch of snow last month so at least they got a little snow pack. She says the traffic has gotten worse since the housing development started going in and she can smell the truck stops in the morning.

We got out just in time.

Oh, hail! Gotta go look!!!

Whew, what a day! We started at Cracker Barrel for breakfast, then we headed to Cades Cove. Daughter wanted the kids to go there, so the plan was she and FCD would spread the ashes while I wrangled the spawn. We drove the road twice because they couldn’t remember where MIL and FIL said they wanted to be. On the second go-round, they agreed where to do the deed. As they walked way out in the field, I took the kids into the nearby woods where they climbed a downed old tree trunk along its length multiple times.

Daughter said she thinks FCD was finally mostly relieved to have it done - perhaps he can work thru his grief at last. I saw he was texting with his aunt - MIL’s sister.

Our last stop in the park was at a picnic site where the kidlets waded in a stream. Then we returned to our rooms since they needed to change, then off to supper at the Applewood Family Restaurant. Very yum! Next stop was Publix for a few goodies. Then back for pool time before bedtime. Then Roxy came to our room and FCD yanked her dangling tooth.

We saw 2 young bears and lots of wild turkeys. Overall, it was a good day.

Glad it’s done. I hope it brings FCD’s heart some peace.

Sounds like you and the kids had a fun day~wading in little streams is just about my favorite outdoor activity bar none.

Oven is fixed, but Spot is not happy I let a Not His People into his domain. Had a cheeseburger and an Old Fashioed for dinner.

Looks good.

They are, and I’ve been looking for such jobs, but apparently so is everyone else, as they’re in short supply. I’m trying very hard not to look back lest I get bitter because my ex through fair means or foul (guess which), ended up in much better financial shape than I did. My siblings keep telling me that I had to get out, which is true, but…nope, better not go down that road.

FCM, I"m relieved that chapter is over and hope FCD feels at peace now. I hope nobody forgets to put money under Roxy’s pillow. I actually did forget one time, and my daughter came downstairs in tears because the tooth fairy forgot her. I quickly stuffed $1 up my sleeve, told her maybe the money fell behind her headboard, then managed to plant it just before she found it. Whew!

My favorite tooth fairy story happened to a friend of mine. Her little boy lost a tooth, and her mom, who was visiting, said she’d play tooth fairy and put $1 under his pillow. So she took her wallet and tiptoed into his darkened room while he slept. The next morning, he came flying into the kitchen. “Mom, mom, LOOK! The tooth fairy left me TWENTY DOLLARS!” Oops. After that, her son expected $20 every time he lost a tooth.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/47f with a predicted high of 13c/56f and cloudy. Weather app says “I’d love to tell you that the fucking sun will come out tomorrow, but it might not. I’m not a fucking miracle worker.” It’s rained at some point, but it’s cleared up now and there’s a hint of brightness in the sky so I am optimistic.

I’m sure her customers will be pleased to pop in and admire whatever they see you stitching too, you’ll be an added attraction!

WetOne fingers crossed for you, hope it’s something that heals quickly.

Good for you! I’m with all of you in spirit.

All of that time for an astronomical quote as well? We need to have our ageing bathroom suite replaced and I keep putting it off for the very same reason. Our house is not as old as yours but it’s an unusual shape and rooms have strange corners!

I am glad he’s done it now, it might get easier now that he doesn’t have the task hanging over his head, and he can move on a little bit through his grieving process.

I had a frustrating time with irk yesterday - the ADHD Squirrel asked if I could get something done by Thursday, which is perfectly possible…except I don’t have all the documents I need to complete the job and I have several questions that she has no answer for. Let’s see what today brings on that one!

After irk, I spent some time talking to Muffin then I went off to do other stuff. I emptied all the bins and the recycling, then hauled the biiiiig recycling bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. I also put a small bag of used batteries on top of the bin as the binmen will collect those but they go in a separate little hopper on the side of the dustcart. Other than that, I slothed.

Got up this morning and did cat-related chores before going out to haul the biiiiig bin back to where it lives. Now I’m having a cuppa before I log into irk and see what joys await me today. I need to put some laundry on this morning, and at some point I need to work out campus food. I’m only in the office for two days so I’ll need two tubs of overnight oats for breakfast, I have a lunch date on Thursday with a friend so I also only need lunch for one day. Might see if I’ve got something in the freezer that would work.

Off to get some breakfast and another cuppa first!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

“Why did you give me this, is The Lord’s order of ‘Plague of Locusts’ on back order?”
“Is there any tea?”

She does keep offering to make me a cup of tea but she drinks herbal infusions rather than real tea so I doubt her capabilities on that score. As for the rest, it’s about what I have come to expect from her! I’m kind of looking forward to her going on secondment although we don’t know who’s taking her role (I’ve been asked several times and I still don’t want it) so it could be even worse!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’.YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 76 and cloudy. It’s laundry day! I can hardly contain myself. The afternoon will be RDOS time. I shall attend the six p.m. Eucharist over to the church house. Sup will be leftovers.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day!

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

I had a really good, long sleep, except I woke again with an achy back. Still, sleep!

Speaking of Tooth Fairy stories (that I may have already told) Daughter came to the kitchen one morning and said she knew we did the tooth fairy thing. She had given us the ultimate test (her words) - she put her tooth under her pillow without telling us. Naturally, there was no money in the morning. She saw the error of her discovery when we said “Well, I guess you won’t get paid for any more teeth!”

Speaking of getting paid, Roxy told everyone she encountered yesterday that today’s her birthday. One woman gave her a $5 bill! Score! That girl will talk to anyone and everyone. Daughter said it’s a good thing she doesn’t know her SSN or she’d tell that, too!

Well, time to wake FCD so we can start today’s adventures.

Happy Tuesday!

HIya, 38 f here north of Denver.

We bought a new house. Well 5 years old. So it’s broken in is the way I see it. Sheeeessss. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this.

We are retiring here. We also still have our house in the mountains, at 11,200 feet in elevation. It just became to much to deal with. We get ~ 30 feet of snow a year. Yes. 30 feet. We are too old for that. Gonna sell that place. But life must move on.

The new place is great. Backs up to open space with a fenced dog park. Lot’s of walking paths. And this is sort of nuts - two 2 car attached garages. Heated. Each my wife and I have our own two car heated garage. The garages connect to each other. The one I chose is oversized 2 car, so that’s gonna be work area tool bench stuff too.

Neither my wife or I have ever had a garage. So, my mind blown.
