(Old) Every Girl Crazy 'Bout A Sharp Dressed MMP

It’s 3:30pm, and we’ve now had 94 voters: the polls are open until 7pm, so we’ll definitely crack 100. If we get more than 200 we have to open a new pack of blank ballots, but I think that’s unlikely. It’s nice to finally be in the downhill part of the day.

OMG about the hotel mix-up, Metal Mouse!! But I’m glad you were able to find another place to stay, and that you’re safely in London. :united_kingdom:

Nope: once the polls are open, election officers in this county aren’t allowed to leave the polling place grounds. I could walk around the outside of the building, or go to the parking lot/my car, but that’s about it. We’re warned many times to bring everything we will need for the ~15-hour day: all food*, medication, etc. It’s probably just as well, because going home and seeing the pup would make it really hard to come back…not to mention that having to clean up after the pup who’s been alone since 4:45am would take extra time.

*We are allowed to have food, etc., delivered/brought to us.

When custom titles became available I knew I wanted one, and after I hit on the idea of making it the year that I joined the Dope I couldn’t think of anything I preferred. I think I would have liked that coworker! LOL! And I might just steal that idea: if I make it to 10 years with my company, I think I’ll add “est. 2018” to my nameplate.

Afternoon, all. I am still recovering from a late night out - I should have done a couple of weeks training with boo fae beforehand to be prepared to stay out late and bounce back the next morning, but alas here I am.

But last night was a blast! The crowd was quite raucous the entire game and the Thunder have now taken the lead in the series for the championship. A good time was had by all (except for the Pacers and the small number of their fans that managed to get tickets, I imagine) and I managed not to completely lose my voice. What an experience and not one I ever expected to be lucky enough to have!

Maybe warn the lady staying at your place or set out a second box somewhere for when you’re gone?

rocking_chair that is super interesting about Alaska - thank you for posting that!

:scream: :scream: indeed! Hopefully this is The One Thing that always seem to go wrong on big trips like this and everything else is smooth from here on out!

oopsie Thank you for being a poll worker!

I don’t trust 3rd party companies - I book directly with the hotel. It may cost a tad more, but I always choose the cancellation option, just in case. Sorry you had an expensive goof. If they won’t refund, can you at least get a credit for another stay somewhere else?

I’ll mention it to her, but I doubt it’ll be a problem. I’m guessing she’ll do her laundry at Daughter’s or Daughter will come here with her dirties. She’d have no other reason to go to the basement. It was FCD who left the door open and I didn’t think to check.

We had an early supper and nothing else is planned for the evening. Chillage!!

I’ll be in Spain reasonably soon, though not on the Camino. yum, yum.

I hope your cruise ship is or will be in good repair!

It sounds like most of you have had an uneventful Tuesday. I went to the ortho, then deposited the :snerk: STD check.

I figured out what is likely making Nelson itchy. When we came in last night, I had several tiny bites around the top of my shoes. Nelson was scratching his undercarriage, and sure enough, he had the same kind of bites. We have chiggers. He had a benedryl / peanut butter taco, I wiped his belly (he’s nearly hairless there and what hair there is is blonde) with non-toxic baby wipes, sprayed him down with anti-itch spray and brushed him before bed. I also washed my feet down and put some itch cream on them. I gave him an oatmeal bath today and wiped / sprayed him after walking him this afternoon. He’s acting like he feels better, so I’ll keep this up until we move.

Howdy Y’all! Been stormy off and on since eleven a.m. We did venture out around eight-thirty. I needed to get vehicle gassed up and decided to go to the Murphy’s at :astonished_face:WallyWorld  cause that was the cheapest gas price and also wanted to go in :astonished_face:WallyWorld😲 to buy some medicated shampoo and shoe laces. OYKW went along for the ride. Then we voted. The ballot was for two Public Service Commissioners. Oopsie we voted at nine-thirty and were numbers four and five. The poll workers were puttin’ together a jigsaw puzzle. Then laundry got laundered (well, the last load cause I managed two loads before we left) and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. Then came the storms which were good for nappage and day drinkin’. Leftovers got et up and we had some Netflix and chill time. Now I shall wander around teh intartoobz for a bit.

Thank you, I caught your quick reassurance before I had to stop doomscrolling for the night, hence me not replying. I’ve since learned much more and am now hoping that the state doesn’t allow the assassination and murders be federalized.

Changes subject to something more fun. How’s Ollie? Has he finally stopped trying to eat everything in sight? I understand dachshunds start to mature around three years old, here’s hoping he’ll stop trying to eat rugs when you aren’t looking.

I had to order some for Hubs. I have never once claimed to be a good wife.

Poor lil girl. I’m sure it was loud because she had held it for so long. Unless they are sick, cats want to use their litter boxes.

Fingers crossed that you have a great trip. With that much planning, how could you possibly go wrong?

The first time I heard that was from the very distinguished Library Director back at my first government job. All of us department heads had to give a monthly report at the overlong meeting. I just had highlights, this, this and this, so this and this were done. Stats and such and so. Any questions?

It took me maybe two minutes.

At my 90 day eval, the director told me that he loved it when folks were concise and often wanted to bring in a bottle of Kaopectate for folks with verbal diarrhea. Ever since then, I’ve always thought about him and had to not chuckle while I was sitting in an overly long meeting while listening to someone droning on and on over which department’s responsibility emptying the pencil sharpeners should be.

Retirement is magical!

Wow, such a bountiful harvest! We have a cherry tomato growing. Well, currently it is slightly bigger than a BB, but it is bigger than it was yesterday

The other cherry tomato plant was going great and then yesterday suddenly started looking peeked. Today it feels like something broke the stem at the base - wind maybe? It was caged…

Oh, gosh, what a nightmare. I’m so glad you aren’t sleeping on a park bench tonight!

I’m so happy you had such a good time.

Same. I’ve heard too many horror stories about doing that, but it getting harder and harder to avoid. They are scammers so they set their webpages up to make it look like you really are booking with the hotel, then when something goes wrong they act like typical scammers.

So not much has been going on here. It’s been raining off and on so no need to water. My African Daisies are just taking off, big bright flowers all over and I can’t bring them inside because when I brought the roses in, Jolene ate the petals like potato chips and then did unspeakable things in the litter robot.

She isn’t my favorite kitty today anyhow. Last night she pushed my desk chair up against the wall so she could pull my calendar down and chew the edges. I know it’s her, the small bite marks are unmistakable. Plus, GG wouldn’t have needed to bother with the chair.

Up from naptime, having a Manhattan and watching hockey. Not looking great for Edmonton.
Also Anne Burrell died. :scream: :frowning:

So you show up next to the fridge and scream every time I open a pack of Italian lunchmeat?

Just an amateur mixologist. But first up are the Monte Carlo and the Brasil, since I have cachaca and Benedictine.

Sometimes you can’t find the litterbox after 6 martinis. Just saying.

Still glad you’re not homeless.

How much day drinking did you do before that became a good idea?

So typical cat servant day?

It’s kind of you to ask, thanks. He will always be food driven over all other things, but he is becoming a bit more discriminating. He still will snarf up any wayward plastic bread bag clip, though. But now when I yell, “Drop it!!” he does. He did break a tooth recently, unfortunately. I am breathless (not in a good way) at how much the vet is going to charge to take it out. < choke >

The first thing I’d check for is slugs or snails. Put some beer out nearby in a shallow pan (pie plate is a good choice) and see what turns up overnight. Chewing plants off at the base is a tell-tale sign of them.

OTOH, you might just get @dogbutler.

Rotten Jolene! I hope she leaves your calendar alone!

We had 274 by closing. More than I expected.

I was there 0420 to 2000. Long day but enjoyable…

We got our cabin assignment today - 10015. Way up high and way far forward. It’s called a veranda spa room - the spa is right across the hall. But we won’t be using it because it costs a lot - $40/day or $300 or so for the cruise. We don’t need to be spa’d - we can use a hot tub one deck down. We saw videos of cabins in that area (not specifically ours, but within a few yards) and they’re nice. But being on the 10th deck, if we hit rough seas, we could be tossed out of bed. Almost happened when I was on the cruise with my mom - I think we were on deck 12.

Anyway, I’ve got our luggage tags printed - one less thing to worry about. And if you’re creepily curious, find cabin 10015 on Nieuw Statendam.

Lost me there. I mentioned that we went on our first – and last – cruise two years ago. First, the entertainment was not for us. Second, we missed a port call because of winds. Third, there was only very expensive Internet/phone service; no free Wi-Fi. Fourth, there were like three channels on the TV that played the same movies over and over and over. Fifth, we both got COVID. If it weren’t for the ‘entertainment’ that wouldn’t even make it in Branson, Missouri and the lack of free Wi-Fi, it wouldn’t have been so bad. But… Let’s just say that cruises are not our thing.

Me, dressing for the occasion:

I scared the dog laughing!! Brilliant!!! Thank you.

We wound up with ~180; about what I expected. We don’t get much turnout for single-party primaries. There were only four of us to handle closing (the two collection officers left early to take the ballots to the gov’t center): it went pretty smoothly, but took time. I wound up being there from 4:45am to 9:10pm. The building’s custodian all but shooed us out of the place…heh. By the time I got home I was sweaty and yucky, so after taking care of Bailey I took a shower and am now watching a little Big Bang Theory before I go to bed.

I am so tired. If the dog decides to bark in the middle of the night again I might have to think twice about how much I actually love her…

flyboy - with our fare, we get unlimited wifi for 2 devices. And all of the ships we’ve been on have had multiple channels and movies available - on demand. Entertainment does vary. Worst was the guy doing yo-yo stuff who thought he was a comic. Second to that was a singer who I thought was deliberately bad, but no, she was allegedly a professional. Best was an amazing violinist. So all over the place.

My brother and one sister refuse to cruise. I’d go every year if I could afford it.

Yeah, that was me. Er, that was me-ow.

Sigh. 9 days ago, we turned on the air to cool down the house for an hour before bed. First time this year. Nope. Many alert notices on the thermostat. Try the heat. Nope. Turn off the system, which is about 18 months old–the whole thing, we switched from gas to electric. Get a guy out. System is completely drained. Needs a leak test. We get the leak test guy out yesterday. He’s bemused–he did our maintenance visit a few months ago and all was well. Yeah, there’s a big-ass leak. He can’t even repressurize the system. He can hear the nitrogen hissing out at top speed. Comes back from the attic. Shows us photos of two big holes in the line from… roofing nails from the new roof installation two weeks ago. They can’t do a patch (which he doesn’t recommend anyway) because of where the holes are. The whole line needs to be replaced. We’re up to $3300. Sent the invoices, photos, and a summary to the roofing company. We hope they just pay for the repair without arguing. Meanwhile, although it’s pretty temperate, we have to sleep with the windows closed or the pollen will overwhelm me. We do have a bedroom HEPA filter, but if we close of the bedroom, there’ll be 76 ferrets in there tonight.

American Home Shield sent us to a quite sarcastic jerk as their HVAC guy. Nope, we’ll stick with our maintenance contract with the installer. Deductible on the homeowner’s insurance is $2500.

Warm with all those weasels on the bed.

We had, I think, two channels that played the same five movies over and over, live cam off the bow, and some sort of map. ‘Entertainment’ was shipboard versions of TV game shows, a DJ, and a Beatles impersonation band. And shopping. Yes, shopping was billed as entertainment. Oh, there was a presentation about IVs. I mean, I’m from L.A. and liked Punk and Alternative, plus indie films. Beatles impersonators just don’t do it for me. (Not that I have anything against The Beatles.)

Weird. Every larger cruise I’ve been on has had live music at multiple bars and lounges. The smaller ones (river and expedition) have had talks about whales, birds, new engine technologies, history, and culture. Different cruise lines are pitched to different demographics. We started with several Norwegian (NCL) cruises because the demographic was lower middle income + higher education, with some more strenuous shore excursion options. We were just on a Royal Carribean cruise that wasn’t to our taste in terms of Art Auction!!! Comedian!!! DRINKIES!!! but we just ignored that stuff, and the food was good. Celebrity is probably the best match for us, but Holland America has bathtubs and is less hyper.
