(Old) FA LA LA LA LA Decking The Halls In The MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 71 and rainy for the day. TWPTB say the rain will begin around eight a.m. Tomorrow if first Sunday brunch over to the church house, so I shall bake a chawklit sheetcake with chawklit pee-kahn icin’. I shall also make the usual gallon each of sweet and unsweet tea cause that’s what I do. Might make a corn casserole. Or not. Any need to feed today shall be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips, etc. My DAWGS play Alabammy for the SEC championship at four p.m. I will no doubt need extra special double secret confession tomorrow. Of course, there will be the usual sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. It is important to keep to one’s schedule, after all!

Wheelie I enjoyed the song. Y’all done good.

red hope you get the rent stuff sorted out soonest.

MetalMouse hope the water woes are not too bad.

Cat_Glove it’s a well-known fact that Mary rode Joseph’s ass all the way to Bethlehem. Hope all goes well for hubs with the bone marrow transplant. Prayers will ascend.

Wordy sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do.

shoe awww! That’s some of the good karma comin’ back to ya there.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

When I was in college, I was friends with a fairly newly married couple. When the wife messed up her leg in a karate class and had to be hospitalized for a few days, the husband really, really hated to go back to an empty apartment, and since we were in several classes together, he’d bring his crap over and we’d do homework, which always became a session on how we could run the world a whole lot better than anyone. Same results - no one wanted our help. Then his wife was discharged and he decided he should help her rather than solve the world’s problems with me. Alas for the world!!

As an aside, rumors started flying that he and I were having an affair. Um, yeah. While we were both Aero Engineering majors, there was absolutely nothing about him that led me to lustful thoughts. He was a good friend (still is, sorta, via occasional email) but he had some attitudes that really bothered me, and he was arrogant, and, frankly, he was just not my type. But people gonna talk, I guess.

This is the bit that gets me. When FIL’s mother was in her 90s, her doctor told her she needed to change her diet because of her cholesterol. WT-everlovin’-F??? Same way the kidney doc just told MIL not to eat fast food or overly processed food. She’s 92 and her innards are failing. If she wants a hot dog or an Egg McMuffin, who cares? Will it shorten her remaining life by 10 or 15 minutes??? Sheesh.

I truly don’t understand the idea that being alive is the goal over all others. Hence the directive that I not be kept alive on machines, except to keep things going till transplantable parts can be harvested. Life is good until it isn’t. And just having a pulse isn’t necessarily life. OK, I’m done…

We tried that - no dice. Assuming she lives long enough for us to get her to Indiana with her sister, we’re hoping AuntB can fatten her up. She’s a retired nurse, so well-qualified to fuss over her sister.

It’s a foggy morning. Daughter and SIL should get here within the next 90 minutes, along with the kidlets. I just ran downstairs and put the two recliner covers into the wash (with an afghan, just to fill out the load.) Once I finish my morning postings, I need go go down again and start moving things around so they can get what they need to load in the truck. Maybe one trip will do it, maybe not. I’ll be wrangling, so it’s up to them.

Then everyone will come back here for lunch - I think it’ll just be sammiches and fries. And with luck, that’ll be the end of getting BIL settled. (yeah, right…) At least there will be less crap in the basement.

We got a bill from the marina for electric on our boat - almost $15 for last month. We weren’t there - we’ll need to run down to the marina and see if something was left on or figure out if someone is stealing our electric. Dammit. Always something.

I dreamed last night that Mark Harmon was hitting on me. Dunno why - it’s not like I’ve been bingeing on NCIS and he hasn’t been in the news. But he was in my head. Dreams is weird!

Happy Saturday! Send Kahlua!!! And Amaretto!! STAT!!!

Good morning!

It’s 45F and pouring rain at the moment. The expected high is 49F and we’re expected to get “occasional” rain throughout the morning with some slight clearing in the afternoon.

We put the pups to bed last night in the kennel, but per usual they woke up in the wee hours of the morning, so my husband took them downstairs and outside to potty. Instead of trying to take them both upstairs again, he opted to leave them in their pen downstairs, which also has kennels, but he didn’t put them in the kennels. Just before 5:00 a.m. I heard noises that first sounded like they were coming from the backyard, so I jumped up to put on clothes, and found Buster at my feet. Yup, they busted out of the pen by nudging one corner open and Buster figured out how to get all the way to the top of the stairs (a first!). I dressed and tried to get him to go back down, but he wasn’t having it, and I had to figure out where Maisie was. She was under the couch, giving something hell, is where she was. I scooped her up and we all went outside so they could potty. I knew they piddled, but it’s too dark to see if they did number two, so I brought them back inside after almost 10 minutes. I let them run around, but when they saw me grab the food bowls they were all over me and tumbling all over each other to get into the pen. Anyway, they ate, and I figured I had 10 minutes before they needed to potty. Nope, they BOTH pooed, damn it. Oh well, lesson learned.

It doesn’t help that it’s pouring down rain, and Buster does not like the rain. Not one little bit, nope, not for him, uh-uh, ain’t havin’ it. Anyway, I put them back outside while I quickly cleaned the mess in the pen, then stood outside with them for ANOTHER 10 minutes while Buster cried and Maisie wanted to play.

I brought them inside, toweled them off, and stuck them inside their kennels with the door open, and they’re both quiet as church mice for the moment.

FCM, I think you and FCD will sleep for two solid days when everything with MiL is over. The prolonged stress between FiL, her, and BiL has got to be exhausting. I hope the sister can help MiL obtain a little nutrition, but MiL is doing what my MiL did in the end: not eating and essentially giving up. There was no moving that mountain either. My heart goes out to you and the family.

shoe, it’s so nice that you and former co-worker got meet up again and that she looks so much healthier.

metal mouse, I am hoping that the water problem is resolved soonest.

red, hope the rent problem is solved stat.

wordy, I am sorry you’re dealing with all that crap at work.

I was a total sloth yesterday. I spent the day playing and cuddling with the pups. When they napped, they were on the couch curled up next to me or on me, or, if they hopped down onto the giant orthopedic bed we bought Polar and Brandi, they had to sleep with their heads on top of my feet. I mean, who could move when all that was happening?

But, today, I need to shake off the slothfulness and get to gettin’. I need to order Christmas presents, tidy the house, and start laundry. I have more laundry now the pups are here, because if they have an accident on the pen mat, I scoop it up and wash it. I don’t want them to get the idea that it’s cool to piddle or poo in the house.

My son may or may not come up. I’m not sure. He had plans to come up this weekend, but I know he wasn’t feeling super awesome yesterday, so he may change his mind.

Okay then. Time to finish my second cup of coffee and get a move on. My best to all of you.

And a good morning all. Well, for you, it’s raining outside here and looks like it will continue into the afternoon. On the good side, it’s 61F outside and should make it to 66F, so that’s a December I can live with. Have to do some soccer training today in the gym in preparation for the indoor soccer (futsal) season starting 9 December. Outside of that nothing much on my agenda, may actually get around to downloading my trip pictures to go on Facebook. Not hard to do, just real slothful when it comes to doing it. Probably also watch some of the tackleball today.

FCM, at least MIL still apparently has most of her mind intact; losing my dad was doubly hard because the man who had raised and loved me all those years wasn’t there anymore. If I make it to 92 I hope I can make the same decisions about myself (still have 20 years to go…). And you could do a lot worse than Mark Harmon, IMHO.

Shoe, great story, glad old colleague apparently is doing better, you are one of the good folks that make it so nice to be in the MMP (of course, everyone in the MMP is real good folks.

red, looked up General Hatton, he got promoted to Brigadier and 8 days later was shot and killed; might be a record for shortest time as a General… Any move to take down the statue, given the removal of a lot of Confederate statues in recent times?

JtC, yeah, roundabouts were not designed for heavy truck traffic, the one I have used to be a 4-way stop sign that is 99.5% cars and works much better than the old signs. And happy the cookies ended turning out well; amazing what you can find on the internet.

OK need to break my fast and maybe do a bit of a Xmas present to myself thing and see about upgrading my Christmas flights to brother to 1st class is in the budget–just because the extra room is nice and you get to board (almost) first. Take care all.

This sounds a lot like what we used to call a Texas sheet cake.

That was me with my mom. I began to lose the woman who raised me about 15 years before her physical passing.

Not that I’m aware of. The statue in the middle of the square / roundabout is identical to his monument in Cedar Grove Cemetery where he is buried, so at least one of them will stay.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP.

When I checked my email this morning, an amended rent statement was there, so I clicked the pay button and got that done. I’ll put a gift card for coffee in the new manager’s holiday card along with the one that I get for the maintenance guy (he’s the real coffee drinker, so when a ticket is slated on my day off, I make sure to have a pot of French press or some espresso waiting for him and he gets a card for coffee on the go during the holidays. You can’t take care of a good maintenance guy too much).

Today is pretty much sloth (Nelson and I wore slickers again this morning) with the exception of going to the grocery outlet, having a tire aired and getting gas.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

So SSLAW #2 crapped, out, and they had to send the on call guy…all the way from Mebane. But between it being Saturday, and lots of folks(even the Senior Clerk!), I was out early. Laundry is drying, so I shall nap while it keeps raining.

I love this week’s title sooooo much! [thank you, swampie]. Can we keep it for next week too? Maybe stick a ‘week two’ in front of the fa-la-la-la-la?

If not, something with ‘bah! humbug!’ in it will do.

Some of you may have read yesterday that I was seeking advice about how to open a frozen lock on my stolen-and-recovered-trashed Seca II. I went to the hardware store to try to find some penetrating oil with a needle applicator. (They didn’t have it, nor did NAPA, but I did get the lock open by putting 3-In-1 oil on the key and jiggling it.) I was chatting to one of the women who works there. She and her husband have a Model T, and we’ve chatted about my MGB before. Anyway, she asked who stole my bike. I thought a moment and told her. I started spelling out his surname, and she finished it. She was like, ‘Oh, yeah. He’s been trespassed form her a few times.’ And the neighbour who’s working on my R1 says he went to school with the guy. Apparently this miscreant is well known around here.

The move is done, Daughter and crew have gone home, FCD is picking up his glasses. Chillage is the order of the day.

And for another big bite of crap sammich, my mom has pneumonia and is being kept overnight. Aaaarrrrrrrrgggghhh!

The sun is shining now in a blue sky, but I just read the weather forecast, and we’re supposed to get up to FOUR INCHES of rain between tonight and Tuesday morning. I’m glad I live on a hill…and can swim.

FCM, I can’t believe all the bad stuff coming your way lately. I hope your mom recuperates and fast. As for your MIL, my experience, like Tater’s, is that when people stop eating, their bodies are getting ready to die. Your poor MIL deserves some peace.

MetalMouse, I’ve never heard of futsal before. Thanks for introducing me!

Boo, glad you’re back.

red, I LOVE that Nelson wears a slicker! I don’t suppose you have a photo, do you?

And now we know why they’re called the “wee” hours.

This morning I slept in a little, paid some bills, then went to the gym. I’d cancelled Thursday evening’s personal training session because I needed the time for a deadline at work (which was also why I didn’t post yesterday), so we met at 9:30am. It’s nice to have Saturday mornings as an option for rescheduling! We’re going to do it again next weekend, because Tuesday evening is my company’s annual awards ceremony. There will be another Tuesday session this month I’ll have to cancel, as well. Between work, music and theater shows, and getting together with a few friends who will be in town for the holidays, December is going to be quite busy! Anyway, after the gym I took Bailey for a walk and took a shower, then started catching up on this thread.

I just ordered Chinese food for lunch: I really liked the orange chicken I had earlier this week, and decided to get it again. This time, though, I’ll read the fortune instead of eating it. DoorDash should be here in 15-20 min; after I finish this post, I’ll relocate to the living room.

Tomorrow morning I’ll catch up on some volunteer-related emails and record-keeping, but otherwise I have no plans this weekend. Which is quite alright with me.

Noticed that, eh?

It’s meant to be a tree-topper, but I like it better on the table.

WOW! :open_mouth:

In 2001, I started working at a small software/services company; they weren’t exactly a startup, but the culture was very startup-like. Everyone’s badge had their employee # under their photo and name, and every # started with “SB” – which, I learned, stood for “stinkin’ badge.” It was the founders’ way of rebelling when the time came for the company to start requiring/issuing badges. Heh.

Sorry about the wallet damage, but I’m glad you didn’t need any emergency dental work!

That was awesome!! I’m so glad you had fun!

My memories of the previous leak’s details are a little hazy, but should you be contacting the guy who “fixed” the last one and demanding politely requesting that he come finish the job…?

Awww!!

Small town, or ambitious criminal?

Ugh!! :frowning:

LOL! :joy:

Between Bellingham, Blaine, and Birch Bay, about 100,000 people. (His multiple Facebook profiles – perhaps up to 11 – list all of those places.) So, yeah. Small town. And he has a list of offences on the restitution order.

Mornin’ all! 3 hours post-dawn on a gray-ish warm day 81/27 on the way to 85/30. I tried balconatin’ for awhile but the Sun kept finding thin spots in the clouds & blinding me. So indoors it is; darn.

Awoke late after about 9 uninterrupted hours in bed. Tres wonderful. Now fully recharged. Bad news is that extra sleeping foreclosed golf this morning. OTOH, all this unaccustomed gripping of weirdly-shaped sticks leaves my hands stiff and puffy the next day, and this morning even 2 days later they were still not real happy. I suppose this is the leading edge of arthritis. Sigh. Nothing hurts, they just feel inflated and a little reluctant to reach the full range of motion in either direction. Oh bother.

Other than practicing dancing and a lesson shortly after lunch we have no plans and no obligations.

As to ‘yall:
Yeah Wheelz that was some might fine uke-in’. You can’t help but smile with that music. And the crowd was wowed.

Ya gotta wonder what they were thinking when most of the traffic through those is OTR trucks. It’s not like real estate is in short supply out there. Except for land acquisition challenges, those could have been twice as large and not interfered with anything.

I get most of my recipes off the internet. But I usually pick two or three, eyeball what I like about each then wing it from that collective baseline. I know that’s not your professional cheesemaker style, and I also know that works a lot better for e.g. pulled pork than it does for baking where precise and detailed proportions matter a lot. But it does serve to detect dumb transcription errors among all the plagiarism on the net.

Anyhow, yaay for wonderful cookies like Grandma used to make. Remember: the more misshapen, the fewer calories.

Now that’s some smart customer service right there. Entering their busiest month by far, it’s time to reduce hours. Sheesh!!

[Big interruption, it’s now noon here]

Awww! You’re such a sweetheart softie under that sometimes crusty exterior.

We also got to that place with my late first wife. My message to her as this unfolded over a month or three was (simplifying & shortening A LOT):

If you’ve decided to quit eating and get it over with, I’m here to support you in that. I love you and I understand. If you’re just being lazy or “I don’ wanna”, that’s fine too. But understand that’s going to end in the same place. If you do want to keep going, that’s fine too. And I’ll support you in finding something(s) you are willing and able to eat no matter how much effort that is or how unorthodox your new eating is.

I only ask that you understand and accept that a) not eating and b) keeping going just don’t go together. It’s gonna be one or the other whether you or I like that or not.

This is an awful place to be as the patient and a differently awful place to be as caregiver or next-of-kin. My heart goes out to FCM & FCD.

At the risk of borrowing trouble from the future, I suggest you develop a contingency plan for MIL being alive but too weak / ill to travel to her sister out of state as it becomes time for you to depart for your Jan vacation.

The not-eating or almost-not-eating program has a rather short fuze, but the decay is exponential, such that the early returns suggest it’ll last a lot longer than it finally does. The end spiral is quick, and can sneak up on you unawares until suddenly it’s both very obvious and very acute / imminent. It sure did for me; something I will regret for my remaining days.

[Another big gap here; it’s now midafternoon]

Taters the pups sound cutely adorably exasperating. Best of luck teaching them the virtues of pooping outside, even if it is raining. No matter how much laundry that takes.

Welcome back, Stranger!

To keep the song’s theme going, maybe the next week(s?) can be something like one of these:

'Tis The Season to be Jolly in the MMP
Don We Now Our Gay Postings in the MMP
Troll the Ancient Yule-tide Carols in the MMP

I hope you noticed the title for December mini-rants:

Ho Fucking Ho - December Mini-Rants

courtesy of our very own cookie.

When I was in IT many of our customers were police departments. They use the term “frequent flier” a lot and not the way the airlines do.

A great source of frustration for many of them is that if they could permanently remove a couple percent of the populace they could prevent probably 95% of the crime victims from ever becoming victims. One ordinary bad guy can damage, ruin, or greatly shorten hundreds of lives. It’s a very bad exchange ratio.

Yaay!! Chillage is very well-earned.

As to me:
Once Her Ladyship arose we did indeed get some dancing practice, breakfast, and our lesson. Which went well. It’s not physically demanding, but mentally it’s hard work. I did figure out that in their echo-y studio going without hearing aids works much better. No muddy wall-of-noise; even if it is a little muffled I can at least hear the beat well.

Now chillin’ with too much time and not enough ambition until later. Might nap. As befits a weekend day for a retired drain on society. Then again, they’re all weekend days now.

There are several more or less in place. FCD is a planner and we’ve discussed the various possibilities. More discussions will likely follow the tests scheduled on Moanday for her kidneys. We’re as prepared as we can be, I think.

Dreary day to become a soggy night and a (so far) no-plans tomorrow. Until something happens…

I got the side fairings and tail fairing taken off of the Seca II. I got the fuel tank off, and removed the petcock. Maybe tomorrow I’ll put the ‘new’ gas cap on the new tank (I need the screws from the old tank) and clean up the petcock and put it on the new tank. Of course, I posted today’s doings in the Motorcycle thread.

ETA: The bonebag who was arrested for stealing my bike is apparently in prison.

ETA2: Fixed link (I think).

Shoe, what a wonderful story! It just goes to show you that you make more of a contribution to people’s lives than you know.

Wheelz, that’s some fine ukulele playing!

flyboy, I clicked the link and got “NOT FOUND. That URL is not found on this server.”

I think I fixed it.

Whole lot of incredible wisdom from pilot and such kindness to share what was acquired at great cost.

Thank you both~I’ll try to comport my ‘bah! hum buggy’ self so you don’t regret it.

And yes, I have been enjoying the December rants title-to thine own self be true!

Pilot, we read all about the early boom and bust of LLV before we pulled the trigger. Seems there were some shady folks making themselves rich with investors’ dollars. I’m not sure how that would have affected you had you bought property back then.
Things seem pretty solid here now; homes are going up like crazy. Fortunately, there’s only so much buildable land, so it will be finite.
It’s a beautiful area, and there are some homes here with absolutely spectacular views. The lot premiums for those homes are outrageous. Our views are good enough from certain windows, and we just need to walk up the street a bit for the incredible mountain vistas and lake views, so it’s all good.
Closing in on our first year here, we love it so far. The cute little Village down by the lake is still about half empty storefronts, though, and the Hilton property has seen better days. I’d love to see things pick up down there. We’ll see what the future brings.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words about our ukulele performance. As a reward (punishment?) for your kindness, I’ll share the video I just got of one of our other numbers. Last one, I promise!
