(Old) FA LA LA LA LA Decking The Halls In The MMP

Further proof that MIL is losing it - she considers Pizza Hut to be the standard against which all pizzas are judged. :open_mouth:

Ok, that was a tad snarky. But seriously, she really does think that’s a great pizza. And there are none in this county, so she mourns.

Ok, back to chillage.

Checking in - y’all seem to be doing okay - carry on!

Pizza Hut pizza is just about the best available where I live. I often mention this fact as a dramatic illustration of the sorry state of affairs in the area.

Here ya go! Puddle Duck Nelson

shoe, that was a nice reunion. It appears that you made a difference in her work experience at the hellhole.

taters, puppies are a whole bunch of work, but totally worth it. But, you already know that.

Good vibes going out to your mom Moooooom.

Saturday chores are done, outlet shopping done (I even got a Dirty Santa gift) and put away and now kicked back.

OMG - what godforsaken food desert do you live in?

Evening all. Rained all afternoon and is still raining as I type this. Spent 4 hours in a Jr. High gym either learning about Futsal or practicing coaching/refereeing it, so have kept moderately active. Turned the water back on to refill the toilets and stuff, may turn it off tonight, we’ll see. Outside of that, nothing much but 65F weather.

Wheelie, is that you playing backup kazoo? Looks like it’s a pretty nice group there.

2gig, good to see you around these parts again; we’re doing ok but would be doing better if our old friend could post more often (hint, hint).

red, glad you have a manager than apparently gives a damn, nice of you to treat the folks there like…people (so many renters don’t).

flyboy, sounds like your bike-robber is not a popular fellow around there. Hope once his term is up he turns over a new leaf…somewhere else. Good luck with the restoration work.

{{{FCM}}}, it never seems to end, does it? Best wishes to your Mom.

nellie, get out the hip-waders, sounds like you’ll need them.

Oopsie, thanks for the “SB” story.

red, Nelson looks so…Nelsonly…in that suit.

Need to fix some dinner and continue the You Tube catch-up (only a few more to go). Have a good evening all.

I’m a little surprised that peeps have to order/buy calendars. We end up with about 4 or 5 each year: one from the garden store, one from church, one from the City and at least 1 or 2 that come from organizations seeking donations.

Speaking of calendars, our daughter always wants the WeRateDogs page a day calendar. I went to Barnes & Noble on Nov 12, they didn’t have them, so I ordered one. Today, on our way to Lowes, we stopped at Barnes & Noble because it been 3 weeks. They said the calendar had come in Nov 22 and they had contacted me. I never received an email or a phone call and I diligently watched my email. The clerk suggested the email might have gone to my spam folder; I had left my phone in the car but when I checked a little later there was no evidence of either a phone call or an email anywhere. She ordered another one for me and told me to check back in 10 days. Drat, that’s the day we meet with the transplant Dr to go over last minute info.

sari I’m sure you’re very proud of your son for the way he handled himself at jury duty. Sounded impressive.
Also had a little chuckle over your comment on two-seater walk-in tubs.

Condolences swampy Hubs just told me the outcome of the SEC championship game.

Having maintenance and managers remember you in a good way will stand you well in most complexes. Besides, I know that they don’t pay the staff well here.

What a sweet story, it is always nice to know that you have made a positive difference in someone’s life.

I’m here to tell you that people who are happy look way different than when they are super stressed and working a horrible job for people who steal from them. There are a couple of ex-coworkers I see working other jobs at times. I always have to stop and double check to be sure it is them before saying something…and they always blink a few times before recognizing me as well.

When friends and loved ones started leaving this world, I always gave them what they wanted to eat, not what the doctor ordered.

A couple of men just loved their Whoppers, so I’d always bring one when I came to visit. When they set their unfinished burger aside, I knew it was almost over :frowning:

Oh…just so you know…Denny’s has birthday cake shakes that are pretty tasty. Maybe try one on MIL?

Silly pup!

I’m sorry for laughing, but I did because I can just imagine it happening to me.

Total agreement from me. I spoil our housekeeper for the same reason!

Back when I worked in the county records department, I read so many case files involving career petty thieves that kept doing the same stupid shit over and over without learning that the result was worse every time.

While you are looking for that one, post his lumberjack pic again! That one always puts a big smile on my face.

Are you sure you really want my thoughts on this, LOL!!!

I, and many other folks who lived out here, took time off work to go to the public planning meetings. We all had pretty much the same concerns and wanted two ways out that wouldn’t be blocked if one vehicle turned over. I can’t remember anyone saying anything about wanting dinky roundabouts. Land acquisition shouldn’t have been a problem everything west of the interchange is already state land, it would have just needed to be transferred from one department to another.

Oh, that post office is all about customer service! They don’t have trash cans for public use in the lobby or by the PO boxes but do have signs saying that if they catch anyone leaving their junk mail on the counters, they will lose their PO box for a year.

As a general rule, 1% of any given population will cause 99% of the problems.

I forgot who said that, wasn’t me, but I’ve seen enough one percenters to agree 100%

WOOT!!!

I really love that song and it demands ukuleles! Thanks for sharing

SO cute!!!

At least they get pizza!

I was so productive today that I’m probably going to need to be extra slothful for the next few days.

This morning we went to the craft fair and I socialized while hubs carried my bag. There was a close call with an Avon lady and a tube of men’s hand lotion, but he didn’t panic and run away like a gazelle so it went very well.

I bought some things for my Secret Santa(s) and then came home and wrapped and packed up their boxes, shoe’s hoops (friends don’t let friends go to Hobby Lobby this time of the year) and Mom’s cookies. After I had stacked the boxes into a neat pile by the door and put everything away, I looked around to see the Christmas cards I had intended to put in the boxes.

Ain’t nobody getting Christmas cards this year, LOL!

I always used the free ones for work, but I like to pick the one I will be hanging on the kitchen wall. I’m all picky like that, LOL!

Prayers happening for a good outcome.

Edited to brag about getting fresh Indian Fry Bread for lunch. It was very yummy and I wish they would do it at the community center more often. We’ve got the kitchen certified and the Fry Bread cooks have their food handler certs.

Howdy Y’all! Well, my DAWGS lost. Thus I have a sad. However, I still love ‘em. 12-1 ain’t too shabby. They won’t get into the playoffs most likely, but will get a New Year’s Six bowl game which ain’t nuttin’ to sneeze at. In other news, we slothed, we were generally overall useless for a while, we napped, we day drank. I got the cake, tea, and the corn casserole made for tomorrow. First Sunday brunch is a thing to look forward to for some good eats. Oh, and I get to plop down in a pew beside OYKW and just be a parishioner. I like that from time to time.

MOOOOOOM hope they get your mom situated at the horsepistol and she gets to go home soonest. Glad BIL got all moved in. I totally agree about MIL gettin’ whatever it is she wants to eat. Durin’ the last few weeks of my mom’s life she was in hospice care at home. Sis and I were there and made sure she got whatever she wanted. Heck, if she had requested a quart of moonshine and a carton of unfiltered Camel cigarettes, I’d have gotten ‘em for her. Not that she would have. This was the woman who asked a grocery store clerk where they keep the rum for cookin’. Likker is not sold in grocery stores in Jawja. She knew this but thought maybe she could buy just a little bottle to make a rum glaze for a pound cake. Howzzat for rambly!

Ain’t nobody skunking your DAWGS!!!

That is such a sweet memory

When I moved up here from California, I was shocked that I couldn’t buy some cognac to make steak au poivre at the grocery store. In California, you could buy spirits anywhere. I had to go to a liquor store. Thankfully, the law has changed and you can now buy spirits anywhere. Unfortunately, Washington taxes the hell out of it. Note to self: Next trip to California, buy cases of sauce.

What would it run you in Canada?

No idea. But there’s the duty-free shop on the way back.

I’d skip this one if I were you:

The furthest state from New York that’s not actually out in the ocean. I can’t get decent pizza, black-and-white cookies or an egg cream in south-central Alaska.

:smirk:

same but not sure I’ll be able to keep up. This will be an even crazier month than last month.

yanker sounds like new pup has you wrapped around her little paw. Lucy is very cute. Bella would like to play with her; Bella greatly prefers playing with dogs with black fur.

nah, it was being true to Matthew Ch 25: I was hungry and you gave me to drink, I was thirsty and you gave me to drink, I had paper grocery bags that were ripping and you gave me nylon grocery bags. Good on 'ya. :star2:

metal mouse I truly hope that you’re just imagining things in re the water readings. What you went through earlier this year wasn’t pleasant on you personally or on your pocketbook.

I absolutely 128% concur. (The math works out; I checked.)

That’s almost exactly the same as my style, too. I cannot follow a recipe precisely to save my life - the one time I came close, just to prove to myself that I could, there was something about the finished product that I just knew would have been improved if I’d followed my instincts instead of the instructions. (The precise details have been lost to the mists of memory.)

Shh. Don’t tell anyone, ferchrissakes; I have a reputation to uphold.

Goddamn, but ain’t that the truth.

I feel like there’s a “that’s what she said” joke in there somewhere.

{ Shoe has left the chat … in a huff. }

Well, hey y’all!

… that doesn’t at all sound like the opening plot for a porn. Nope. Not even a bit.

I luv you.

For me it’s the opposite; thirty years in the Bible Belt will mess you up.

I’ve been in the Mitten State for three years now (!!) and it still weirds me out to see handles of Jack Daniels an aisle over from the toiler paper and over near the eggs and hot dogs.

Then again, even after working at a dispo for a year, it still amazes me that I can swing by the one near me on my way home from work - they have a drive-thru ferchrissakes - hand over a fiver and even get change (which I always tell them to keep, I may not be rich but I’m not a complete savage) and go home with one or two decent joints for the evening. Amazing.

There’s a tradition at my current job :pizza: to get a cake for people after they’ve been there for some amount of time.

I got mine today! It was chocolate, with vanilla icing and vanilla filling and someone commented that it was kinda like an Oreo cookie.
It was lovely. I nearly cried. The crew happily helped me absolutely demolish it.

'Round about 2:30 this morning, FCD was having some sort of bad dream - enough that his twitching and mumbling woke me - so I grabbed his hand and held it till he calmed down and was sleeping quietly again. I tried to sleep myself, but I eventually gave up and pulled out my tablet to read. So, long day ahead.

I had a text from Texas SIL - for some reason, she and AuntB think my number is FCD’s, even tho they both text him on his number… Anyway, she couldn’t reach MIL and was worried. Either she’d called while all the moving nonsense was going on or MIL accidentally turned down her ring volume again - she does that sometimes with the way she picks up the phone. But I texted back (even tho it’s stoopit o’clock in Texas) to let her know all is OK.

It’s rained on and off all night and it’s forecast to continue into mid-morning. Thankfully, it’s not nasty cold - low 50s right now. I’ve got some errands to run later today, plus we need to go to MIL’s and BIL’s to deal with a few more things. But I’m hoping for a relatively easy day.

Also hoping to get some news about my mom. My sister hadn’t heard anything as of last night - no news is good news, right? Theoretically, my bro will take Mom home today. Fingers crossed.

I think today is the anniversary of starting my first engineering job in 1985 - less than a year after getting out of the Navy. How weird that I remember the date (or maybe it was Dec 2 - close enough, tho.) The biggie is Saturday, tho - our 40th anniversary! Not bad for eloping a mere 4 weeks after our first date. We’ll be celebrating by going to a model train display with MIL, SIL, Daughter, and the kidlets. We never make a fuss over our anniversary - it’s just not our thing.

Anyway, Happy Sunday!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s all of 1c/34f with a predicted high of 2c/35f, and light snow!!! Snow!!! Weather app says “Fuck a doddle doo. It’s fucking snowing.” Well, no, not right now, we did get a light dusting overnight but it’s starting to melt already and I do not want to see any more of it.

I was out at the pet store doing some fundraising for Little Paws yesterday, we had quite a successful day and raised £152 in donations directly to us. December is a weird month for us, the store is part of a large chain and in December they run a Santa Paws promotion whereby people can donate at the checkout (anything from 50p upwards can be added to their bill). We are also expected to be in the store every Saturday, and can raise money but can’t sell any of our own stuff.

Anyhoo, all the money we raise via donations gets added to the store’s Santa Paws donations and goes into one big pot. In January, we will get 50% of the total SP donations from the store as we are their partnered animal rescue. The other 50% goes into the national Pets at Home Foundation which covers grants and other stuff, so we will get some of that as well.

Today’s fundraising exercise will be at an indoor xmas fair at a local pub so I’m off there soon to help on the stall for a couple of hours. We were originally having an outdoor stall but fortunately the organisers have seen sense and moved everything inside since it’s so cold.

I have read much but retained little, however to answer @LSLGuy’s question about NHS dentistry, I have to say that it’s a bit of a minefield! Most dentists here will only take a certain number of NHS patients, the rest of their practice relies on private patients. I haven’t been able to find anywhere near to me that takes NHS patients, and the NHS provision doesn’t cover every kind of dental treatment either. The NHS provides free dental care for children up to the age of 16 and also for those in receipt of specific types of benefits, but again this only covers basic treatment. Anything more complex will be covered partly by the NHS, the rest you have to pay yourself. Although the NHS does provide emergency dental treatment, if you are able to get an emergency appointment it would be with whoever is providing it on that day. I had to take 'im indoors to an emergency dentist years ago, the only place we could get an appointment was almost an hour’s drive from home. They did a temporary repair but then sent him back to his normal dentist to do a proper fix.

Right, off to de-ice the car, get a cuppa to go, and get off to raise some pennies for the starving kittehs!
