The parental units are paying airfare, and buying the dress.
I think the table and chairs are set up, but yeah, it seems to be BYOB (bring your own picnic basket) my mom said she has a cooler on wheels specially for this.
She’s been attending for years, it is sooooo not my thing but it’s ezzactly the kind of shit she lurves.
Beauty sleep thoroughly interrupted. The timeframe they gave me was was 9-noon, and sure ‘nuff, 9:05 he came a-knockin’. Woke me out of a dead-ass sound sleep.
Nice enough fella, he remembered the interminable Saga Of The Half-Fallen Tree from last year.
Now Monkey is slinking around in his best “panther” impression, checking if the stranger-danger is truly gone. I keep reassuring him that it is, and I swear he glared at me like, “Bitch, you bundled me off to the vet the other day; I don’t trust you.”
When I moved from northern L.A. County to L.A. proper, I got the occasional call for a manufacturer of ice cream machines. (I think it was Nicewonger, but I don’t remember.) And since my prefix was 202, sometimes I’d get calls from people wanting to call Washington, DC.
FCD’s phone number used to belong to a preacher in Baltimore. It took several years for him to stop getting those calls.
Some years back, I had a number that either belonged to or was given out by someone who was avoiding bill collectors. It took quite a while to convince them that I didn’t know who she was or how to reach her.
Pain perdu for breakfast. I humbly submit that mine is the best on the planet.
Completed the xwords, totally tanked the Wordle. I’ll be walking it all off in a bit.
Youngest son has hit a couple of banks and they quoted him interest rates for a line of credit. At least they didn’t burst into hysterical laughter and escort him out. I’ll be glad when this is behind him and he can look to a future that has some happiness in it.
The wife is making noises about a Mississippi River cruise next year. My general policy is to never get near the water, but it does sound relaxing. We can afford the 1st class accommodations, so perhaps we’ll give it a shot.
I’ll bet you are going to have an “interesting” time. Bring the good stuff with you, you are going to need it.
Dang, can you not return it or is it too much of a bother?
Swimming didn’t happen this morning. Hubs and Jolene left at a quarter to seven and GG had opened the bedroom door and was walking on my face and whining by 705. He was so clingy I didn’t want to leave him alone. Plus I wasn’t sure I could get out the front door without him following. He hasn’t yet learned how to pull doors inwards once he’s turned the knob, but he only figured out how to open interior doors when he was locked away from me in a hotel bathroom.
We probably need to get another set of deadbolts installed about five feet up. He hasn’t figured our current ones out yet but they wouldn’t be that much of a challenge.
So the 100 Slide was light enough I was also helping on pick off on Blue, the 100 Table, clean up unload, and a few other things.. and I did my Senior day shopping at Teeter.
Also, there is a loose bull in the area.
Maybe if you Roxy, and Tobias make a Clue By 4 in the shop and hit him with it.
“I trusted a primate, and woke up with no genitals and part of my ear torn off. I shall assume that you will inevitably betray me.” - Spot
they had one in philly a bit ago. and yes, you schlep table, chairs, food, beverage, table settings, etc, while wearing white. only white. not off white, not beige, white. in philly attending this thing was 60+dollars.
you schlep your dinner to a site, they then tell you the secret place, you then schlep to the secret place and set up your dinner.
if you are wonder why on earth…the explanation is that it started in france. it is a french thing.
It’s afternoon now and the fifth and last load is in the washer, while load #4 is being dried. It was a long morning, but at least I won’t have to worry about laundry again until sometime in October. Rain has departed and soccer practice won’t be decided until 3pm (that’s when the Parks people make their decision on the fields), so will have to see how much pedaling I can get in by then. it’s only 74F so nice weather for the AC and Heater to have a day off together.
shoe, Ah, I see, so you may have to bow (or curtsy) to the inevitable then, but I agree with rocky and you, this is something people who want to be seen go to to be seen; I fully believe it could be a French thing. Hope you survive…
cookie, I’ve been tempted to take one of those Mississippi cruises, let nme know what you find out.
Once in a while we would stop and get a gallon. That was good stuff. Haven’t had root beer on tap for a long while.
That sounds so good. We’re having a cold snap (7°C/45°F) this morning, plus I have a cold which is at the annoying cough state. Still picking raspberries and tomatoes.
Good luck with the shindig outfit searching.
Hubby has a tired, so I think this evening will be really low-energy and early to bed. Should start packing, but that’s anyway easy. Just time consuming.
Need to find the anti-itch stuff. Got something on my arm which is itchy, and I have no idea what started it. Probably some sort of plant life. Hope there’s something in the box of meds.
GG has spent the day curled into a lonely black fur ball. He doesn’t like being alone
I needed some lemons so after hubs got back, I went to the sto and was happy to find them. Lemons out here seem to be kinda iffy. Sometimes they are not available of just not very good, other times they are plentiful and very nice. Today they were nice.
I also found some orange cream cider that is waiting in the fridge for me to get home from picking Jolene up. The brewing company also offers Cougar Bait blond ale and Shotgun Wedding Brown Ale aged with vanilla beans. I’ll happily try the Shotgun Wedding when I find it. I didn’t get Hubs anything because he’s an IPA guy, the hoppier the better.
So…what exactly do you get for your 60 bucks? Do they at least supply a filled pikanik basket?
you get to do a frou frou french thing; that is what you get. you get to have an experience. you get to sit with a bunch of other people in a secret spot, who are wearing white. (of course when a whole bunch of people wearing white gather somewhere it is no longer secret).
the only pikanik basket is the one you packed. they only provide the meeting spot and secret location, perhaps some music. seriously, not much.
i do not have french ancestry, so i don’t have the frou frou gene, i seriously don’t get it. this is not to say i think it is a waste of time. people do enjoy getting together with friends and family and have a lovely night. i believe it is the people you are with that make it a great experience.
i do know people who have gone and they really, genuinely enjoyed it. they would go on about how wonderful it is and how lovely it was. the pictures do look nice.
i have considered crashing it (there are times it is very close to where i live)… but i will not pay 60+ dollars.
Yeah, that is pretty much it. Even my mom acknowledged that this is definitely not my thing … but it is hers, and despite all my whining about her, she has come through for me. I wouldn’t have A/C or a functioning fridge right now - both of which are humming along being all nice and cold - if it weren’t for her.
Already planned for. My parents are more anti-pot than the TSA, but some obstacles can be overcome.
If you assumed homemade, imma break your heart.
It’s one of those powdered/dried “just add hot water” cups, off Amazon. Brand name is McDougalls.
Very tasty, easy to prepare, no dishes afterwards to wash.
12 out of 10, highly recommend, especially for the tired/lazy among us.
Their black bean soup is even better.
You have tomatoes in that kind of blessed relief from the heat coolness? Color me impressed.
Considering what his roommate is going through, I’d say he got off lucky on this one.
How does one say, “Suck it up, buttercup!” in cat?
For the first 4 yrs that I taught Water Exercise it was for the local school district Sr Citizen Continuing Education department. It was held in an elementary school pool where there was no equipment except kickboards. So, yes, I had them all bring gallon milk jugs and we used those and also the kickboards for some resistance exercises as well as flexibility. Later when I began teaching at the private Club, there was a budget and I was able to buy bouyancy belts, plastic dumbbells that could be filled with water and some equipment that went on lower legs.
JtC I taught Water Exercise for about 17-18 years. No one wore swim caps to Water Exercise only to swim laps.
omgosh, this is brilliant.
Hubs came down with a horrible rash covering 70% of his body on Labor Day. Right away called the After Hrs Stem Cell Transplant pod and they put him on steroids. Next day had zoom with his Stem Cell Transplant Dr and she adjusted the medication and also ordered a cream. Then put in a referral to dermatology for a biopsy. Went today to the dermatology appt. Biopsy taken; won’t have results for 7-10 days. The derm Doc said it didn’t look to her like a dangerous rash (GvHD) but more like non-dangerous, probably related to medication reaction. The steroids are making it very difficult for Hubs to sleep. Not a fun couple of weeks with more to come but at least the steroids stopped the itching and also helped his trigger thumb improve. Didn’t mention (I don’t think) but went to hand specialist on Monday and she gave him a cortisone shot in base of thumb.
On way home stopped at Belle Tire and filled left rear tire since the low tire pressure light had come on during travel to appointment.
I have to wonder how all-white the clothing is after schlepping and eating. Wait - are you allowed to use an all-white bib? Asking for a friend…
Is is maybe a charity thing?
Wish I could take credit for it, but it’s something FCD did with a couple of his scrap barrels. But, yeah, purty SMRT!
Good deed for the day: I helped BIL with his credit card - he can now pay on line. I took him to Food Lion. I explained what was going on with his electric bike, so he’ll stop freaking out. I think I left him in a good state. Maybe…
Supper tonight will be grab whatever. Lots of whatever in the fridge. Frankly, I’d like a Peanut Buster Parfait for supper, but that would require leaving the house. Nope.
i don’t believe it is a charity thing. from the website:
Le Diner en Blanc is all about making memories and connections across a global network and in the realms of Gastronomy , Travel , and Fashion . It’s where local communities engage with brands that reflect our values and style, whether by offering sampling opportunities with “joie de vivre,” running luxury contests or demonstrations by celebrity chefs or influencers, and always creating visually stunning backdrops for guest and partners alike. The possibilities are endless!
there is a checklist of what to bring:
A square folding-table and two white chairs; a white picnic basket and/or bag including a gourmet meal for two, a white tablecloth and cloth-napkins, cutlery, dishware, and glassware; and a garbage bag. Since this is a sustainable event, guests are not permitted to bring one-time or disposable cups and plates. Please note that handy checklists will be available to all guests.
oh dear…here’s hoping your purplehorseshoe is filled with “chance”.
Howdy Y’all! The things got done and I got back to da cave before a torrential down pour. YAY! Been rainy most of the day, but for now, just cloudy with more rain on the way in a while. Or not. TWPTB are yet again bein’ all willy-nilly. Nappage and day drinkin were accomplished and we et an early sup. Now 'tis Netflix, chill, and later on, popcorn time.
BooFae glad you took the sick day. Hope you’re feelin’ better this evenin’.
sari good to know sah-son is beginnin’ to realize he needs to know stuff and maybe go ahead and get his DL.
shoe showin’ up at a fancy schmancy event with a cooler on wheels amuses me perhaps more than it should. Glad the inspector finally showed up and that Monkey is such a good protector.
cookie a Mississippi River cruise sounds like it would be fun.
rocker if’n I gotta dress up, especially in all white, I ain’t schleppin’ nuttin’.
Dicey I agree. JtC needs a Cthulhu swim cap!
Kitten_Mitten hope hubby’s rash clears up soonest. I had to take prednisone once for a rash. Never want to do that again. I was agitated and grouchy (even more so that usual) for seven days.
I hope that your son is finally coming around with the driving thing sari.
The Shotgun Wedding does sound good.
TGIT!
I’m ready for the weekend. It’s supposed to rain for most of it, so I may pack Nelon up and take him to Lowe’s and let the ladies in the paint department spoil him.
We’re back from getting COVID vax # umpty-'leven. Advil, small prepared lunches from Safeway, shower, lie about and watch Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for a while.
From what I see people had bags, big bags. Some had red rider wagons that they stashed away after arriving at the secret location. Some would have a designated secret person, who would convey the secret to the others stood by to transport the items.
It is a bit interesting in philly as many would take public transport, or private uber transport.
The people who I know that went to this were very careful to have non messy foods.
Purplehorseshoe, has there been a mention of menu? Perhaps white pizza?
