(Old) Flyboy’s Birthday🎂in the new MMP~

Not out this way :frowning: Smallest bills we can get from them here are tens. Hubs went to town today, he’ll pick up some ones at the CU for me.

That is totally unacceptable! Every day needs a sufficient amount of slothing.

The worse part is that I had ordered a value meal which came with a drink and wanted water instead of soda. Being charged an extra dollar to substitute water for more costly soda was a deal breaker for me.

Back when I was working, I ate fast food a couple of times a week and thought it was pretty good stuff. Now that I only eat fast food once a month or so, I’m liking it less and less so losing that place as an option isn’t that much of a loss.

Many good thoughts on the way!

Ohhh, I love parquet floors! They look so classy  Please share pics when you can.

Now that is just silly and I hope they figure it out soon.

Getting quality medical care just shouldn’t be this complicated.

Do you mean “without a cat to trip over in the middle of the night”?

You very well could be. Do you or he have any friends who would be willing to help? One of my nephews couldn’t get out of the driveway with my sister in the car, but did very well with me. After he got his confidence up with me, he was happy to chauffer his folks around at any and all opportunity.

I hope you get some sleep tonight, last night sounded pretty bad.

Today was surplus produce day and the bounty continues. Grapes, roma tomatoes and little apples. The Romas are currently cooking down to make tomato paste and I’ve got the sweet apples in another pot for chunky sugar free apple sauce.

They also gave us bags and bags of penne rigate, assorted loaves of bread and energy drinks.

I’ve got some scamorza (hard mozzarella) in the cheese fridge, I think dinner tonight will be penne rigate with fresh tomato sauce and grated scamorza.

These boxes are great for kicking us out of our “what to have for dinner” rut!

Aye.

But it’s better than the alternative.

Howdy Y’all! We have had some very adventurous weather here in south Jawja. We just came out of a tornado warnin’ and are under a tornado and flash flood watch. The meetin’ this afternoon has been re-scheduled to Firday afternoon, which is fine by me. We are happy to be inside and dry. We did the shrimpies 'n grits and bacon wrapped spareguts for N.O.L. followed by nappage. We are fed and happy bears.

Niner we are searchin’ for a new Priest/Rector. ‘Tis a long and somewhat involved process. Fortunately we have very good guidance from our Diocese. We are at the ready to post all the necessary info point and this meetin’ is to tweak a few of the finer points before the community and church profiles are posted on the sooper sekrete site Priests/Rectors who are seekin’ new positions go to look what’s out there.

Sari maybe Sah-son would do better with someone else to teach him to drive. Like JtC said, often someone neutral can do a much better job.

WetOne yay for new floorin’. Did that about five years ago and am still happy with the vinyl wood floorin’ we chose.

Nellie of course you are frustrated. This is way more complicated than it need be. Our healthcare system in the U.S. needs a major overhaul!

Lily happy rooter-rooter prep!

I’m just marveling at the juxtaposition of a cat avatar, the name “peed in”, and an intent to replace new floors with something that absorbs stray liquid and can will be destroyed by such liquid(s).

Or am I joining some dots that don’t belong joined?

Are grits really edible? I have heard varying opinions.

Dammit, just had a huge downpour here, and it seems the vent stack on my roof is leaking again. I had thought I had fixed that problem. I went crawling through the “attic” to look and, yup, it’s coming down around the stack. This should be an easy thing to fix.

I tried grits once. Once. In 1993 (I think it was). I got them at the airport in New Orleans. I was not impressed. At all.

Fast-forward to a couple of years ago. There’s a restaurant in Bellingham called Bayou on Bay, that is next to the SPARK Museum of Electrical Invention that we’d just visited. (What drew me in was that they had Vieux Carrés on the menu they’d displayed by the entrance. ) I don’t recall what I had, but she had the shrimp’n’grits. I had a taste. Not bad. Not bad at all!

Since then, I’ve made shrimp and grits a couple/few times at home. I just use 15-minute grits, but my wife (who’d lived in the South) said I made them right.

My board name is a corruption of my first name. It has nothing to do with urine. My cat does not pee on the floor. She uses her box.

Whew! I feel much better now.

I mean “without a cat to stand on my abdomen during colonoscopy prep.”

I’m on hold with the MRI scheduling dept., so this may be short. Hahahaha. I crack myself up.

Sari, is the truck a stick or automatic? I think since your son is already so hesitant, an automatic would be best, and maybe not a pickup, though if that’s what he’d be driving, of course he’ll need to get comfortable with it. Everyone I know who learned on a pickup and loved it was someone who loved anything with a motor and was confident.

How long has it been since your son had the classroom part? If it’s been a few years, it might boost his confidence to retake it. Also, I agree your son might be more nervous around you because you’re his mom. A friendly driving instructor from a private driving school might be just the ticket, so to speak.

Just curious: is he any less hesitant now than he was a year ago?

Welp, the hospital is scheduling even farther out than the clinic. I then called the other hospital and an imaging center. They’re all scheduling at least 2 weeks out. I wonder how many people around here are limping or doing things one-handed because of the MRI situation.

In happy news, the TENS unit arrived! I tried it out. It feels nice, but like it doesn’t go deep enough to get to the pain, I’m sure I need to use it awhile before I notice any improvement.

Well, that too!

After hubs got home from town, I took some of the bread to my friend with chickens and picked up eggs. NF is really happy to have a source of fresh eggs, so I grabbed some for her as well. I’ll be seeing her at Tai Chi tomorrow and can put them in the bag with the produce she asked for.

I really hope it helps!

The truck is an automatic. I prefer manual, but honestly, with my legs and ankles, I’m better off with automatic.
I learned to drive with my father’s Chevy van, 3 on the tree, and I was so small at the time I practically had to stand on the brake and the clutch to use them. Then I learned on my mother’s Nova, no power steering, no power brakes. I wore blisters on my hands learning to parallel park.
I always thought pickups were easier to drive, especially to back up and parallel park. Maybe that is just me.

My truck is a Colorado, not really big like a Silverado.

He had the classroom part probably about 10 years ago. His driving instructor said he was a really good driver, but he was always nervous with me. That is why I think I may be the problem.
I don’t feel nervous though, we are in a parking lot, not a lot to go wrong.
I just sit back and let him do his thing, circles, figure 8s, pulling into and backing out of parking spaces, whatever he feels comfortable with.
Last time somebody pulled into the parking lot, nowhere near us, and he panicked and slammed on the brakes and put the truck in Park.

He is more hesitant now than he was before.

Afternoon all. Backstroking and whirlpooling and sauna have all been completed and the rain has left the area so it’s bright and N.O.S. outside. Dinner will be sammiches tonight, was going to have them for First Meal but forgot to get the bread out of the freezer. Shirts have been hung up in their proper places so I have been relatively productive.

Computer is getting noisier so I may take it in to a local place to get it cleaned, it’s about 5 years old which is ancient in this world of electronics, but it meets my needs.

nellie, hope the pain keeps lessening and they have a cancellation you can fit into.

Cupcakes, like Pilot I think I tried grits once and that was enough, without a second chance. Don’t go out to break fast all that much anymore, so less chacne I would encounter them anyway, even in Ali-bama.

VanGo, hope the easy thing to fix is, indeed, an easy thing to fix (in other words, no sign of Murphy).

Swampy, looks like the rain will be around there for a bit yet; stay dry.

JtC, Moanday is my fast food day, usually Jersey Mike’s for First Meal and one or another fast food place for dinner. But you’re right, none of them are good enough to go to all the time, so I just rotate with them.

Sari, hope Echo settles down and behaves better. Losing her pal Ripple and now two strangers in the house might have stressed her too. Hope the car lessons improve.

suzie, happy prep days; sounds a little easier than when I had mine.

Sensei, sorry TokyoBoy will miss out on baseball, but I think the coach is shooting himself in the foot with his 'baseball is everything" philosophy. Kids these days have so much going on.

Niner, good luck with the interview; maybe it will lead to some actual face-time.

OK, time for my TV show and then start thinking about dinner. All y’all take care.

suzie , happy prep days; sounds a little easier than when I had mine.

The gallon o’ fun is still an option if you’re feeling nostalgic.

Last chance Mumpers! Tomorrow night I am having a German dinner. Applecake, green beans, potatoes, and sauerbraten. It’s my sister’s birthday, and there will be plenty.

cat glove, when I go up north to see Dad, I try to swing by this place to pick up a pie to take to the family reunion. Most Amish cooking tends to be more about quantity than quality, but their pies are tops. IIRC, it would be a possible day trip from you.

Good luck niner!

I’m with you on this getting old thing sari. IMO, someone else may well be a better person to ride shotgun with your son learning how to drive. I taught all four of my big brother’s kids because they weren’t doing well with either parent in the passenger seat.

baker, grits are wonderful things for breakfast with eggs and / or red eye gravy, make wonderful shrimp and grits ala swampy, or a great brunch dish, three cheese grits. Do buy old fashioned grits though. The rest are floor sweepings.

It sucks the way our health care (or lack thereof) is set up nellie. Hope that the tens unit works well.

Irked, came home, walked the dog, et and began setting up for my next paying gig in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

‘Tis still rainy and stormy here and looks like it will go on all night. Good sleepin’ weather though. The tstorms have been spectacular. I do love me a good tstorm! Tornados can stay away, however. We’re out of the tornado watch, so there’s that.

CupCakes grits all by themselves are tasteless, kinda like oatmeal all by itself is tasteless. However, like oatmeal, some people like plain grits. The secret is butter, cheese, salt, and pepper for really good grits. Fancified grits can even have cream or half and half. Shrimp ‘n grits calls for fancified grits. Plus bacon. Plus cayenne or some kind of pepper to bring a little heat. Bacon, scrambled aigs, and grits with plenty of butter, salt, and black pepper all mixed together is a breakfast comfort food of mine. Dang! Now I may have to make that for breakfast tomorrow. I think I have given myself a gnawin’ and a cravin’.

ETA: red that pie place has all kinds of nummy pies and the price ain’t too bad either. However, I shall pass on the shoofly pie. Nasty. The one time I had it was at a Mennonite restaurant not too far from here. I have a friend who will eat anything sweet and he couldn’t handle it even.

I’m worried, bordering on scared. Last evening, FCD complained that all of his joints ached. He was having some problems getting up. Today, he alternately said he was freezing and felt feverish, but when I took his temp, it was normal. This evening, he can’t get out of a chair without help. I brought his walker in and that’s the only way he can get around now.

And, of course, he refuses to go to the ER. Daughter just said I need to threaten him with an ambulance. I don’t want to overreact, but this is unlike anything I’ve ever encountered and I’m scared.

:people_hugging:

If he can’t get up without help, he can’t run away if you call the ambulance. Perhaps seeing worried looking EMTs might make more of an impression than a worried wife.

(you could also remind him that the last non-compliant mumper hubs ended up paying a whole bunch of money for a kitten)
