(Old) For Whom The Bin Tolls- A Trashy Vacation MMP

In my neck of the woods it’s the numbing drops, then Versed (midalozam) to relax you and make you vague until the anesthetist puts you under (unaware and asleep) for the duration with propofol, which is short acting and you come out from easily, without any hangover. My anesthetist threw in a little ketamine with mine to help with the hypervigilance of my PTSD. I just did this Wednesday for first an endoscopy and biopsy and then a colonoscopy with polyp removals and biopsy, so I was under for about an hour and 15 minutes, not a single one of which I remember. Sadly only Diet Coke after, not even the lousiest of cookies.

Oh, that is just not right!

I’m glad everything went well with your procedures and hope that the results were what you wanted.

I’m looking forward to this. I’ve been having a lot of problems with colors lately. Blues have always been hard for me but now the yellows all look white too. Plus, I should be able to drive after dark again which would be awesome.

Of course I won’t be driving after dark anyhow, I’ve already had at least two drinks by then and I don’t drive after two drinks. Or a nice buzz. Impaired driving is the same no matter what drug I’m using.

Back from family dinner at The Barrel. I had a 15% off coupon as long as we spent more than $35. Yep, we did. FCD and I got veggie plates, which means we’ll be hungry before too long. I was disappointed that they no longer do the grilled chickie salad. Oh well.

Rain forecast tonight and part of tomorrow. I may or may not get out into the yard. For now, I just want to chill. And enjoy the quiet. The grandspawn don’t understand indoor voice.

Not really, but I can feel and somewhat see the development ongoing, and the weights and repetitions are both increasing. Don’t plan to be Charles Atlas but my weight is holding steady around 200lbs and I do find I have a little more energy these days (hardly ever nap anymore).

And a good late afternoon/early evening to you all. Got 1,600 yards of swimming in before the weight training, which went well and I was able to do 50 squats while holding a 10lb. weight to my chest (albeit my back was against the wall for support). So feeling pretty good, had a grilled cheese with hot dogs for mid-day eats and later tonight the Big Bowl O’Sallit will finish my daily calorie count. The soccer fields were closed today and probably will be tomorrow, so they have arranged for the team photos to be taken at the local High School, so we’ll see how that works out. Down to 68F now so the AC is getting a break before it climbs back into the 80’s next week.

And now for scroll time…

Cookie, screwed up the 6-boy KenKen so need to fix that first, apparently I screwed up 1-across so the crossword will have to wait a bit.

FCM, sounds like a plan to me. Enjoy Cracker Barrel; I need to visit my local one one of these days.

Oopsie, I would have gone for the meatloaf, but your choice sounds delicious too. Enjoy the musical. Thanks for the mini-stoke info.

JtC, hope the eye surgery goes well, during my eye exam my doc said he could notice cataracts but they are still correctable with lenses, so no surgery for awhile yet, but one of these days… And the Grand Canyon is the best natural place I have ever seen…for man-made, it’s a tie between the Pyramids and the Great Wall of China.

2 bob, yeah I checked the rail sites and it’s at least 2 connections from Southampton to Heathrow, so the bus is most likely for the return. Getting to the ship may be doable by train, just need to get me and my luggage from hotel to Waterloo station (Black Cab ride!!).

Oopsie, that is an interesting item, but I have 10 full-sized bookshelves I can play with…

lucky, so you’ll be jamming this summer…enjoy.

Dang it, swampy, been doing so good on watching my weight and then you had to go and mention those cookies…

And it’s time to go check the mail and prepare the big bowl o’salad for the night’s repast. Take care all.

I’ve been busy and will probably get busier soon. I dog-sat yesterday for pay and dog-walked today for free (Ms. Dog). The complex’s manager saw me both times and noted this morning that dogs seem to love me. (They love anyone who gives them treats and snuggles, really.) I told her I was thinking of starting a dog-walking business, and she said I could put up a flyer in the office, and she’ll even send out an email to all complex residents. There are a LOT of dogs here, so hopefully I’ll be able to earn some extra money.

My insurance company’s pharmacy called yesterday. It’ll cost me $1,400 for the auto-injector shots. Supposedly it’s a one-time payment for “first time” medications. I’ve been on Xolair for about 3.5 years now, but because it’s a different modality, I have to pay up. It’s a good thing I’m earning a little dog money!

On our walk around the lake this morning, we stopped so Ms. Dog could sit and watch 2 ducks and a goose sunning themselves. “Look!” I said. “It’s duck, duck, goose!” She didn’t laugh. A man walking by rolled his eyes. Oh, well, I tried.

I used a lot of sunscreen before the walk, but I still have red blotches on my arms. I know it’s from leaky blood vessels damaged by the lupus, but the doc told me I could go in the sun with sunscreen and a hat. I’m not sure what to do there. Long sleeves and pants make me feel like I’m roasting, no matter how loose they are. Blech.

Oo! We interrupt this bland post with a NEWS BULLETIN! A duck inside the complex laid 12–TWELVE–eggs in a nest by the office door and is diligently brooding. She’s Dodeca Mom!

doggio, I’m always relieved when you get a vacation (or staycation). You work so hard six days a week that you must be exhausted, and it leaves little time for fun (or as Spot likes to call it, “ME!”).

You and flyboy had me looking up libations again. The blue mermaid sounds like fun!!

Hey, you just swore in two languages (French and Italian)!

Why are they called Oyster cards? It sounds so “The Walrus and the Carpenter.” (I memorized it when I was 13 and will still recite it after a couple of cocktails. This is why I don’t have more friends.)

Sticky, I’m going to have to look up toe yoga. I wonder what other body parts can do yoga. Ear lobes? Uvula? I’d better stop before I say something naughty.

I"m nowhere near caught up, but I have to move laundry, and if I keep replying at this same rate, you’ll have to scan for days to get past me.

Argh! Or to use MetalMouse’s language, merde! SO I called the pharmacy that my Part D uses to send out meds. They transferred me to a pharmacist, who apparently couldn’t hear me even though I could hear her. She said, “Hang up and call back,” so I did. That agent said she’d stay on the line until the pharmacy answered and the agent could tell I was connected. A few minutes later, I suddenly got the end-of-call survey. I hung up and called back.

“We’re sorry. Our offices close at 5 pm Pacific Time and will reopen Monday at 8 am.”

So they won’t be sending my shots. I need to get them by Wednesday. They’d better be willing to overnight them.

Both colors are much improved immediately and night driving got much easier, also immediately. Plus I couldn’t believe how much more light there was in my world-I no longer needed the highest wattage bulbs blaring and multiple reading lamps to read.

And it will be next week before I hear about the multiple biopsies. I’m trying to not sweat it unduly, it’s not like worrying can change anything. I really like the doc who did the procedures so I’ll have confidence in any follow up she advises. The dilation procedure they did in my esophagus didn’t help but at least it didn’t hurt afterwards.

And the only time I drive at night, even now with my much better eyes, is driving 5 miles home from putting grandkidlets to bed, the same easy route I’ve done literally thousands of times. Then, once home, I have my drinks, cat adoration and chocolate.

Watching hockey, having an Aviation, and salmon with peas, 'shrooms, and wild rice.

Now I got a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for those.

I like!

No rain or storms here, but lunch was chili dogs and a Paloma, followed by a nap.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Nifty!

Not really. I’m earning the same I did as a store manager, but working 40-60% less. Plus I get to solve problems(fun) and avoid soul crushing meetings and conference calls(not fun)

Indeed!

Too sweet for me. But full disclosure: We had Hemingway daiquiris tonight. (We’ve both had two. I’ll switch to something less-sweet, like tequila or scotch.)

Dinner was leftover Jesus (Easter ham). I got out yellow mustard, Chinese mustard, Colman’s mustard, Dijon mustard, stone-ground Dijon mustard… I think that’s it. We both had the ham with regular old TJ’s Dijon. And blue cheese-stuffed olives.

I hope that you find your groove and can enjoy your retirement.

You may want to see about getting it lowered. A lot of us women do that, so if he buys used, check out a chick bike. My old Kawasaki was lowered so that 5’6" me could put both feet on the ground at a stop light. He would find it easier swinging a leg over as well.

We got her some good trail mix.

That sounds like the perfect retirement job to me!

Dammit. I’ve just bought a 1937 Luger P.08 pistol in 9mm. We’re watching The Land That Time Forgot (1975), and there was a Artillery Luger (six-inch barrel). I miss my 1942 Mauser-made Luger. After a few drinks, I could no longer resist. Well… At least now I can stop thinking about not having a Luger again. (I’ve bought a traditional Luger with a 4-inch barrel, not the Artillary.)

I once had a boss (a terrible person, but that’s a story for another time) who suffered a mid-life crisis during the time I was his employee. One day, he vibrated into the office, all excited about his new big ol’ super expensive Harley Davidson motorcycle he had just purchased. He was 5’6" on his best day.

We waited patiently for the day to arrive when he would pull up to the office on this new mount. Finally, someone just asked him when he would bring the bike to work. He got a stricken look on his face and didn’t answer.

Next morning, I was sitting in a colleague’s office that had a splendid view of our parking area. As we chatted, a magnificent Harley-Davidson puttered into view with our boss astride in full leathers and a huge helmet. We watched as he pulled into his parking space. The bike tipped – and tipped some more, until it was laid horizontal on the ground. We howled, and immediately skedaddled to a part of the office where we would not be caught howling.

The boss stomped into the office, desperate to get the helmet off his head. He was so panicked he had gotten it caught on his jacket and was unable to dislodge it. By now, he was pulling on it with no results and shrieking at me to “Get it off! Get it off!!” It was like trying to unsnare a bird caught in a trap. He was flapping around so much, it took three times as long to remove the offending head piece. The word, “rattled,” barely describes his state of mind.

We lackeys were then instructed to assist him to help him get the bike back upright. He told me to stand on the far side and “Catch it if it goes too far.” Sure thing, pal. Luckily, we managed to keep it from tipping over the other way.

All day long, the motorcycle lurked just outside his office, in view and taunting him. Quitting time drew closer and closer. He stayed late. So did we.

Finally, he donned his kit and summoned us to hold the bike in place as he started it and gave it some gas. We watched as he motored out of the parking lot.

We learned later that he did ok until he had to stop at a light on his way home, at which point he repeated the tip over like Arte Johnson on his tricycle on Laugh In (for those who may get the reference). Some big guy behind him jumped out of his truck, pulled the boss to his feet with one hand and jerked the bike up with the other, then followed the boss home to make sure he made it.

We never saw that motorcycle again.

I use that method for meat waste and other things like leftover soup that is past its use-by date, but I’m fortunate to be able to compost all the vegetable matter, coffee grounds, egg shells, etc. The meat waste I package up in whatever leak-proof disposable container is handy and into the freezer it goes until I make a trash run. No bears! (Nice to see you back, btw. )

That’s a WOOHOO!, not a Dammit.

Except it was two kilobucks. :grimacing:

Late night final here. They called off soccer for tomorrow, so I’ve told my parents and players that and can actually sleep in a bit tomorrow. Salad has been eaten and outside of doing a little cleaning and solving the harder Ken-Ken, not much else has been accomplished. Will be heading off to bed shortly, may watch some basketball and eat some pudding cups (can’t thank shoe enough for alerting me about their existence…can get sugar-free, 70 calorie cups of goodness with too much guilt).

nellie, sounds like a great idea to get you out of the house and earn a little spending cash. My dad was a lost soul the first year after he retired, then got a job as a crossing guard at the local school along with supervising teens who were working summers for the city, and he absolutely loved it. And I knew it was French, but I just learned from you it is also Italian (for the same word). Hope the pharmacy gets its Merde together. And…

According to a brief search, “The “Oyster card” in London is named for its association with a valuable treasure concealed within a shell, much like the pearl inside an oyster. This metaphor reflects the card’s ability to store value and is also linked to the River Thames, where oysters are historically found.” Actually makes some sense…

BBBoo, glad to hear about the immediate improvement; always nice when it works that way.

flyboy, sounds like a nice purchase.

Bright Tree, that is a wonderful story, would fit great at a site I am fond of (Not Always Right). Sending me off to slumberland with a big grin on my face.

And after 11pm so off to bed I go. See y’all on Sattiday.

That’s frikkin hilarious! Thanks for the story. I’m old enough (through re-runs) to get the reference.

My doc appointment came with lots of recommended things to have done. Many blood tests, a colonoscopy, since I’m up into my 50’s now, starting PT to try to help my back. Is just weird to me after going so long with no insurance to do all these things. I’m sure they’re gonna cost a butload more than I want to pay, even with insurance.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/49f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s sort of gloomy as fuck outside. It’s like a fucking goth weather day.” It’s grey and cloudy out there, and there is precipitation in the forecast for later.

I would have my back to her so she can’t see the number of eye-rolls during the day! Also, I usually talk to her while I’m sitting here so she hears her name quite a bit. Still hissing and growling at me today though.

Not having the daily grind will take some adjustment and I think you’re right to take a breath before you even think about other kinds of work. You’ve had a long and illustrious career, you’ve worked many more hours than was required and you deserve to sit back and have a bit of time to yourself once you’ve finished with all of that. It will take you a while to get used to not having to do everything you’ve done, give yourself a bit of space, your heart and mind will thank you for it.

A hot shower and some good cheese can make up for all the day’s other disappointments!

I must admit I was worried about her because she didn’t touch any wet food for several days after she arrived here. Turns out I hadn’t found the stuff she really liked, now that we have got a favourite, she’s eating a reasonable amount of food, and stuff’s coming out of the other end too.

That sounds like a lot of fun, and even better if there are excellent home-baked treats as well!

That’s excellent progress! If you feel that you need support to do squats, you could try a Smith Machine as that keeps the barbell bit on a frame for stability.

What a great plan, and nice to see that the office manager is supportive too.

Because London (some people think the world revolves around the city) is your oyster once you’ve got one?

Yesterday involved an element of slothage so that was a good end to the day. Today I was up early to tend to the mogs, and have had a breakfast banana before the gym. My plans are to go to the gym once I’ve finished my cup of tea, then stop off at the pet store on the way home to get some more food for Miffin. I want to change the bedding and get that washed as well, I had planned to do that yesterday but was hampered by snoozing cats. Dinner will be whatever delights are hiding in the freezer, and I will probably watch a movie later because 'im indoors isn’t here so I can watch whatever I want without anyone grumbling about it. I get enough grumbles from Muffin!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 86 and N.O.S. The big item on today’s agenda is to funeralize, wherein I will do a readin’. In a bit I shall make up a bunch of little chikin sallit sammiches to take for the reception afterwards. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS inactivities. Any need to feed will be via forage cause da bear is uninspired cook wise.

JtC you have inspired me. The next time OYKW wants to show me his appreciation, I’ll suggest he dust the ceilin’ fans or scrub the shower.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification and the donnin’ of funeral attire must commence along with the makeage of little sammiches.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Second to last day of vacation. More laundry is forecast. It’s currently 65 degrees Ferret Height(18.3 Centipedes) outside.

It’s cloudy with rain on the way, but the sun is peaking through, so it’s sort of “cheerful goth weather”.

I say this a lot as well.

Just not at the same time, I’m thinking.
