(Old) Funny things you overheard in the MMP

Morning all. Up at 7am and decided to get the shopping done early, forgot that schools start gathering in the kids about then, so took a bit longer than planned. Second load of laundry is in the system while the first is drying, but one glitch, the dishwasher has decided to crap out, have checked power and that’s it’s closing properly, but no lights or activity. So need to get someone over (drat). Otherwise just waiting for the rain to start falling like swampy, it’s due about 1pm and then all day and night, so soccer Saturday will probably be cancelled. (Double drat). Swimming is still in the plan for later today. At least it is in the mid-60’s so I’m a little better off than FCM.

JtC, hope travels are going well. That’s a long haul you’re making.

{{{Nellie}}}.

rocky, what’s the matter with the hallway color now? Thought that was dead and buried.

Sticky Buns, hope your decisions are the right ones for you, glad you have help in making them.

Sari, Echo is just playing dominance games with the pups, letting them know who is still the Boss Lady there. Hope Sah-son is doing OK.

Cookie, hope the bursitis can be dealt with promptly, not fun.

FCM, luck on the Bible study, sometimes I’m glad I’m a heathen.

Boo fae, enjoy the flight!

OK, need to check the laundry and see if the dishwasher has miraculously healed itself, then on with the day. Have a good one all.

Narrow hallway - so no. Her walker has a seat, but that doesn’t work when she uses the seat to carry stuff - you can’t sit on a coffee cup! She can’t accept her limits and there’s nothing we can do. Anything we say goes in one ear and out the other. We’re resigned to likely having to call 911 eventually. Even that threat doesn’t get thru to her.

Oh, and her eldest son is just as pig-headed, so I have that to look forward to one day. Lucky me.

The major source of annoyance is the previous headmistress who got a list TEN YEARS AGO from the county of things that needed to be fixed - like the electrical system. But she chose to ignore it and it all fell in Daughter’s lap. By that time, the cost to meet code was over a quarter of a million dollars and there’s no way a school with 38 students can foot such a bill.

But yeah, we were pissed after donation over $4500 in supplies and unknown hours of labor all for nothing.

I’ve tidied half of my studio - the smaller half. Yeah, I know, math and all that. Now that I think of it, it’s maybe 1/3 of the area, and it was the easiest. I’m taking a break, I’ll have some lunch, then I’ll head back down and attack the worst of it. I need a shelving unit - alas, the one I thought we were getting from MIL went to BIL. I’ll figure out something.

So leftover bean soup for lunch, then back to work.

She may be pig-headed, and she may have dementia. She may have both. Either way, I’m sorry, but I think from what you write that you may be assuming that she has more volition over her actions and memory then she actually does.

I may be absent for awhile. Take good care, my friends.

We will be thinking of you.

All my best to you, Nellie. If you need anything, I am not that far away.

This is a recipe that I came up with when we had a whole mess of fresh salmon to do something with.

Salmon Cakes

8 Cups Cooked, flaked red salmon
8 Eggs, beaten
2 Cups Crushed saltine crackers
1 tsp Hot paprika
2-3 Tbsp Dried thyme leaves
2 Bunches green onions, chopped
2 tsp Salt

Mix all ingredients together by hand until well blended. Form into patties by hand or…Spread out on a large cutting board to a depth of about one inch. Cut patties with a biscuit cutter or round cookie cutter. Place in freezer bags and freeze. Vacuum seal.

Fry cakes in a little butter until nicely browned and heated through. Serve with a remoulade or a Louis dressing or an aoli. Makes about three dozen.

You can also coat the patties with panko before frying them in oil.

Mornin’ all. About 11am as I start driveling atcha. A drippy day here, raining off and on since sunrise, but with no great vigor. Presently 73/22 ish and should hold near that all day. Tomorrow is expected to be similar. Uggh.

Yesterday afternoon had a nice beach, followed by a meal of dry (= sauceless) spareribs and part of a loaded baked potato and glass of cheap red wine. Which relative carb-lessness I annihilated with a piece of cheesecake w some caramel drizzle. Gotta stop that.

Then home for a quiet evening on the patio and eventually bed.

Did not sleep well until about 4am, then slept in to 8. Overall got plenty, just not very efficiently. Now sheveled and fed, and will shortly leave to meet my pal for an abbreviated Big Boy lunch. He’s got that irk thing to return to afterwards; his life is on fire. Meantime bedding is laundering. Such fun!

As to y’all:

Wow. I figured you were about 40, tops. Makes more sense now.

Nellie: Hooray for forcing the ghost of ex-jerk out of your head! They should not live in there.

I guess we better not exorcise any of that guilt or else your personality will come unraveled just like some goofed up knitting.

I hope you and he have discussed how many hours a day to drive and how often to stop for how long. The only thing worse than a teeth-bared disagreement is a teeth-bared disagreement at a truck stop in Tucumcari.

The MMP is not just for upbeat. Feel free to wail at the Fates that have afflicted your family. I’m sorry you’re having a bad day of it. If there’s any bright spot, it’s that you’re have a less bad day than whoever is actually having the problem.

Major {{hugs}} for you.

Pick the one closest to your hand. The hardest part for me was not trying harder than they are.

As the wise @susan said, MIL may in fact be trying as hard as she can. It’s very hard to accept their vexing behavior may be fully involuntary when they’ve been otherwise reasonable people for decades. But, like an infant’s crying, they may not be able to do differently; want may not be part of her equation.

{{Hugs}} in any case; you need 'em too.

“Who proposed?” is a rather complicated question to which there is no good answer. Not being coy, but it really was a joint decision that more resembled two moths chaotically orbiting a lightbulb ever more closely than it did a linear process from meeting to dating to …

Yesterday was Thursday. Named for Thor. The Norse god (and recent superhero) equipped with a hammer of legendary power.

Horrified my ass.

I’m just glad to know you’re still alive. It’s been weeks since you’ve last graced us with your wit and wisdom. And … idiosyncratic … quoting style.

This.

As to me again …
Time’s up; need to gird my loins to brave the fierce conditions outside: 75ish and light rain, then drive over to lunch a couple miles away.

Cheers and happy end-of-workweek to those on a conventional schedule!

I have a “catholic” button that can sometimes end up with unpleasant posts if I do not watch myself carefully. I apologize for this shortcoming of mine in advance…

stainless steel rat, norway won the anonymous vote, the second runner up natural came in 3 votes shy of the majority. the people who have joy sparks over norway have rage sparks over natural and vice versa.

i thought i had found a compromise… alas, that did not work. we are back to: all like the trim colour, try for a new wall colour.

those who have rage over norway think it is too dark and institutional, those who have rage over natural think it is too beige, too close to what we have now, and institutional.

i have ordered new stick and peel samples, in what i hope are not institutional colours.

in other news, last saturday a bit of my family got together to celebrate a birthday. during that togetherness, ancestry results were discussed. i mentioned that ancestry had recalculated and i was back to being scandinavian on my father’s side. for some reason it first thought we were british. which was odd as i’m sure my grandfather’s people did not keep raiding britian for wives.

so yest. i remembered to check in to see if there was more “recalculating” and found out that someone on my paternal grandmother’s had loaded a picture of her parents and siblings! i’m betting that this will be the only great grandparents that are pictured. talk about a lovely surprize.

i now know the names of 3 sets of great grand parents, stephan and olena, anna and prokop, and now adolph and magdelena. interesting that 2 of my great grandmothers had the nicknames lena, even though one set was ukraninian and the other danish/german. even more nifty is that magdelena’s family name was kloppenburg, kloppen is where we get clobber, her family name was clobber fort.

at the time that adolph and lena were born they were in denmark, when they were in early tweens/teens they were in germany.

Afternoon all. Four loads of laundry are done, dried, folded and put away. The rain that was predicted has shown up as scheduled and is due to continue into the evening hours. The local Handyman folks don’t do plumbing issues so were going to contact some appliance people they recommend but nothing further yet. So will probably sloth here for awhile then doing the swimming and sauna in the evening hours so I should sleep well–at least that is the plan.

FCM, hope the rant helped; can’t blame you for it, things like MIL and what happened to Daughter ain’t fair, but life never says you have to break even (and you can’t stop playing the game either). {{{Hugs}}}

{{{{Nellie}}}}. Be in touch when you can.

Kitten Mitten, you need to understand the MMP week (most of it was created by swampy and/or doggio, IIRC). There’s Moanday, then 2sDay, Hump Day, Thorsday, Firday, Sattiday, and then Sunday.

rocky, just hope nobody finds the Sherwin-Williams website with 800+ colors to choose from…  :exploding_head: Amazing people can be that worked up on the color of a hallway… And nice work on the genealogy of Family Rocky.

OK, need to get the towels out and folded, then laundry will be done for another month. Hang in there all.

I decided I wanted to make brownies for dessert, so I ran to the store for a mix. I also stopped at Wawa for the winning lottery ticket for tonight’s $900-some-odd million jackpot. You’re all invited to our victory party once we’re presented with the comically oversized check. Dress code - casual.

I found MIL’s salmon patty recipe - she didn’t use corn meal, but I think I’ll do half and half flour and corn meal.

Today would have been FIL’s 94th birthday - MIL is a little down. She was telling me she still occasionally turns to show him something. Not to surprising after 73 years of marriage.

Well, Chicken of the Sea canned salmon SUXXXXX!!! Bones, skin, vertebrae, slimy stuff - just ICK! I had to toss fully 1/3 of the can. Never again. I’ll use salmon fillets next time. MIL said she usually uses more onion, and I agreed it needed more, but they were OK. The brownies were a hit, tho.

Daughter is bringing her spawn tomorrow afternoon. Apparently Tobias misses me! They’ll come in the afternoon after his nap, so I’ll do more organizing in the basement in the morning. Slowly but surely…

You can eat the bones/vertebrae. They’re soft.

I almost never overhear funny things when out and about, but I heard one today.

At Peet’s Coffee, one barista to the other: “I’m perfecting the art of ignoring you.”

I was horrified by canned salmon. I gave it to the cats. They were very happy. Never got it again.

That happens. The town where the Polish branch of my family was sometimes Ukrainian.

{{{nellie}}}

Houseirk is done, groceries bought and supper et. The timer on the dryer has, indeed, gone out. I may YT the repair and see if it’s something I’m confident doing.

Oh yeah, my maternal side is Russian/ukrainian. My grandfather was from the fabled Slavic land of Galicia. That was a crazy place that kept revolving. When he left it was in the Austrian Hungarian empire. Now it is Ukraine. Borders are crazy places.

And a good early evening all. Never got a call from the appliance folks, the rain has been dripping down for hours and I haven’t been able to get to the gym due to seeing if the appliance people would call. So I was feeling…restless I guess is the best word so went out about 4:30 and did my braunschweiger run (had planned for next Tuesday) and also stopped at Wal-Mart and bought a couple new laundry baskets as mine were getting a bit raggedy. Have had my Big Bowl O’Sallit and probably will head over and try to get some swimmin’ in.

FCM, good luck on the lottery. Bet you could make some great brownies with that money… And you’re make me happy I never cared much for fish. Enjoy the kids tomorrow.

OK, need to call one of my coaches who hasn;t shown up or replaied to my e-mails…that may be why I;m restless, I don’t like calling people I don’t know about things that might put them on the defensive with me. Ah well, I agreed to do the job so…

Up from naptime. Having a Paloma, Bojangles seasoned catfish, and watching hockey. Spot is sacked out on the couch. Laundry will be put away at Intermission.

W00t! :wolf: < inset hoplite emoji >

There’s still time to run off to Rio with a cabana boy.

Well, physically, we’re all 50+. Mentally, closer to 12, so it does average out to that.

My brain parsed that as “Norway Rat won the vote” and I thought I forgot to submit my vermin bracket.

absent Mumper HazelNutCoffee mistyped that one while monumentally hungover.
