(Old) Funny things you overheard in the MMP

Um, ick. No thanks.

Helped MIL shower - actually, I just help her dry off and dress after because the shower itself wears her out. While she shampoos and washes, I lay in bed playing with my tablet. When I hear the water go off, I toddle in to make sure she gets out safely. Once she’s dressed, I bring her walker to the door (the bathroom is tiny!!) and follow her back to her chair. It’s an effort not to help too much - I try to wait till she asks.

When the laundry came out of the dryer, I piled hers on the couch next to her so she could fold it. Then I carried it to her room so she could put it away. There aren’t many things she can still do - I wish I could give her a chore but she can’t see to dust, can’t stand long enough to vacuum, can’t see to cook, can’t reach much of anything. She doesn’t knit or crochet, and cross stitch is out of the question because of her vision. She’s got to be bored out of her skull…

I’m waaaay too old to train another one.

OK, back to chillage mode.

Howdy Y’all! Been a rainy day in Jawja, well, my part of Jawja anyway. The grounds irk day over to the church house tomorrow got canceled. Oh darn. I said I would help with mowage. Now I don’t get to mow. Oh darn. Sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ were the order of the day. Sup got cooked and et.

MOOOOOOM two or three tablespoons of flour and maybe a tablespoon of corn meal. Then I add a little more of one or the other or both as I think it may be needed. In southern cookin’ terms that would be a couple of dabs and maybe a smidgen or two. Glad yours turned out OK.

Boo indeed, one must serve peas (we say English peas here in the southern U.S.ofA.), smashed N.O.T. and bizkits as the proper go alongs with fried salmon patties. I prefer the LeSieur peas which we call Le Slurp peas. One should not slurp peas but we are Philistine savages when we are alone.

So happy we agree~and now I can easily add biskits to any meal since I discovered frozen Pillsbury biskits, that I pop the already cutout dough into the air fryer and 20 minutes later I have fresh, flaky biskits upon which to lavish waaaay too much butter. I know longer buy whomp! refrigerator biskits because 1. They are barely better than no biskits at all and 2. I live alone, what am I supposed to do with the other 5 or 6 biskits? (The whomp! rolls are too expensive to only eat 2 or 3 and the leftovers just aren’t the good the next day.

Pillsbury frozen biskits offers a couple more varieties: Southern, which as far as I can tell looks more flat (not as flaky) and also cornbread biskits, which I’ll probably try soon.

I know, far more than any of you wanted to know about my biskit life.

LeSeuer petite peas are my favorite too, either frozen or canned, the teenier the better. I like salmon patties too, they are just too much trouble to make for just me-I gladly eat them when offered.

Mmmmmm, biscuits…I love them. Chik fil a has a really good biscuit and chicken breakfast. Chipped beef and biscuits, oh my, num, num, num.

Happy Friday!

No park today.
My son is still sick, although feeling much better.
The temp was 27 feels like 22.
Misiu is limping.

I’m really getting wimpy about the cold.

In bad news, I feel like I am getting sick. I hope not. I have chills and I am snotting up.

I heard today that Adam is doing well, fat and sassy.
That was good to hear.
I worry about him and miss him, but I think he is better off there.
My old neighbor is sure somebody else is feeding him, maybe even more than one other person. I’m sure they would miss him and worry about him if he was gone.

Ah, I’m sure I had many clever comments to add as I followed along today, but they had all fizzled in the depths of my brain. Hugs to you all!

My big news, or lack thereof, is that I never heard back from the lawyer. I emailed and I called and got no response in return.

Life goes on.

thanks for the explanation :slightly_smiling_face:

today is such a weird day; it’s felt like Sattiday to me all day. :smacksforehead:

Instead of Krogering in the morning I went to our fav bakery because Hubs requested a cinnamon bun and a pineapple danish from there. Daughter decided she’d like a cinnamon bun as well so I decided I would also partake. Before I could go, I had to brush close to 3" of snow off the car. Then I helped our daughter get ready to leave, brushed off the other car, assembled a sandwich for her to take, gave her a few of her things that had been stored in the basement for her to take to Chitown then we drove both cars to Kroger gas where I got $1 off a gallon so paid $2.39/gallon. Put 10.5 gallons in my car that she was taking and 10.6 gallons in Hubs car that I’ve been driving.

Watched the Northwestern game; they had a tough time putting the basketball through the hoop in the 1st half and scored only 19 points in 20 minutes. They were fully warmed up for the second half and tied it up by end of 2nd half. They scored 19 points in 5 minutes in OT and won 77-65 over one of last year’s Final Four teams, Florida Atlantic. Watched the dvr of the Lady Spartans game during timeouts and halftime of the Northwestern game. Haven’t finished it yet but I’m pretty sure it is their last game until next fall.

Walked Bella so she could have a constitutional. Put Mushers Secret on bottom of her paws before we went out. Then made Hubs lunch. Watched a little more bball then went to Kroger. Texted Hubs several times to get clarification on items he wanted then had to call him because he is notorious for not paying attention when he receives texts.

Dinner was Gordon’s fish and Kraft mac n cheese with addition of sauteed onions and red peppers.

Unfortunately the Nebraska men fell to Texas A&M. Purdue avenged their humiliating loss from last yr by beating Grambling State by 28 points. Now watching Wisconsin. They’re having a slow start. As you can tell, I’m GO BIG TEN!! Much easier to do this year since ‘The Other Team’ did not go dancing this year (they were dead last in the Big Ten and fired their coach, previously a member of the Fab Five who some people call the Fraud Five)

I’m fading fast so I’ll say Good Night.

Just a suggestion, but when my mom was in the position of being blind, having dementia and couldn’t get around, I would try to find a little something that she could do when I was cooking to keep her from underfoot. Even though she was blind, she could still chop celery and other vegetation that you could read a newspaper through, so I always put her to doing prep chef work (and yay for someone else to snap green beans and shuck corn). She also liked audio books. With the TV, if she tried to change the channels, she more often than not, messed up the remote control to the point that she (or sometimes my dad) couldn’t get it to work right again. You do have my sympathy though.

Salmon patties tended to be a Friday night staple in the summer, along with colomorbus, sweet corn and any other garden veggie in season at our house.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Spot just flopped down on my keyboard, and now FB restricted me for one hour.

Hopefully you’ve Spotted the problem.

I’m up! The poodle is taking this opportunity while I am typing to lick my conveniently located arm. Yuck. Think I’ll quit typing and eat breakfast.

When my grandmother was in a nursing home, she ended up helping the laundry people fold towels. After decades of being the dependable one, she needed something productive to do.

Finally caught up, and I think there’s a lot of mumpers who need hugs. :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging:

This week was busy.

  • Monday night: 3 hour webinar about retirement for people who live in Switzerland are subject to US taxes. It was the first time this talk was given, and so the speaker couldn’t anticipate the questions. Very much worth the time.

  • Tuesday night: met up with a friend for a drink. Really nice to see her again.

  • Wednesday night: 2 hour webinar just about US taxes for people who live in Switzerland. Same speaker, but different focus. And she’s been doing this talk for years so she was able to answer questions much faster.

  • Thursday night: Hubby’s band, but with another visiting, so I spent time talking to her instead of catching up with MMP.

  • Friday night: movie night

Watched Pitch Perfect last night, and then watched Anna Kendrick’s music video with the cups. And then you all are talking about biscuits. So I went through my recipes to try and pulled out a buttermilk biscuit recipe from Hippie. The only buttermilk that we can buy here is lowfat, so I’m considering buying whole milk and adding lemon juice, so I get the right level of fat.

Tonight I’m making chili, so we can eat it tomorrow for lunch. Might make the biscuits tomorrow. Today is for making up cookie dough, which will be baked tomorrow.

Interestingly, for both of the webinars, 90% were women. I know that in my case, my husband has no head for accounting and is quite happy to let me drive the budget planning, etc.

Haven’t done anything this morning except sit on the couch. Hubby made lattes and was working on the recordings from Thursday. In about 45 minutes we’re going to go to town and pick up something we ordered. They told us they could ship it to our house, but then we have to dispose of the packaging. I had enough of that when we were at home 24/7. Probably will go pick up some chocolate covered raspberry macarons. We bought some last weekend, but they seem to have disappeared. :innocent:

Guess I should go get sheveled.

She’s using my library membership on FCD’s tablet to listen to Sue Grafton’s alphabet series. I assume she’s listening, tho she often looks like she’s asleep. Still, it’s something.

I did find something promising - a church in Leonardtown has a 55+ women’s group that meets once a month. But we’ll have to wait till the 2nd Weds. Still, a possibility.

The rain moved in overnight but it’s moving pretty fast and is supposed to be out of the area by 11 or so this morning. Winds will be gusty for the next couple of days, and we’ll stay n the mid-50s for highs. Not sure when I’ll be able to get back into my garden again.

I need to go to Food Lion for a few things, so I guess that will require semi-decent clothing for a public venue. Dammit. :stuck_out_tongue: OK, it’ll probably be sweatpants because they’re comfy and warm in this icky weather. Anyway, that and the kids are my big plans. Must plan supper, too.

Happy Saturday!

I WON!!!

Stoopit MegaMillions…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 70 and rain this afternoon, which should go away pretty quick. Sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ are on the agenda as is our wont. Any need to feed today will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s and so forth. I have a sad this mornin’. Rose, my ninety-year old friend, died at her assisted livin’ facility early yesterday mornin’. Not unexpected as she was receivin’ hospice care, but still sad. She will be cremated and at some point the family, who are scattered a bit, will have a memorial service and she will be buried in the church columbarium next to her husband.

MOOOOOOM hope your winnin’s do kick you into a higher tax bracket.

Boo I agree about frozen bizkits. A lot of 'em are pretty good.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Morning all. Up early, the rain has left and am now waiting to see if the soccer fields will be open or not for playing today, if so I expect I’ll be there for 5-6 hours, if not, then I’ve pretty well cleared my schedule yesterday, so we’ll see what happens. Appliance people never called, so I may be in the position of having to actually wash my dishes by hand (the horror! the horror!) for the first time in years. Otherwise some general house-irk is probably in order. Missed swimming last night, got to the gym and…had forgot to put my lock in my gym bag. A lot of people hang their stuff and bags in lockers without locks, I guess I’m not as trusting as they are, so came on home sans exercise. Will try to do better today.

FCM, I agree with other MMP’ers, trying to find things MIL can do is a good idea, but hard considering her blindness and fragility. Best of luck and don;t spend that $2 recklessly…

Swampy, sorry to hear about your friend Rose; 90 years is my goal, we’ll see if I make it or not.

BBBoo, I’ll have to look for those Pillsbury biskits you describe, haven’t had a good biskit in awhile.

Sari, hope you and son start feeling better soon.

Cat Glove, right now I have about $0.40 cents/gallon off and a half-tank of gas, don’t think I’ll make the $1.00 mark but it’ll still be a nice savings.

Dicey, busy week and sounds like you got some good information there.

OK, they just posted the fields are closed, so the day is free and clear (actually cloudy and 54F). Need to let my parents know and then stumble forward into the day. At least I have broken my fast…

Mornin’ all.

It’s 47 degrees Fahrenheit and raining lightly. The rain showers will become less numerous as we advance through the afternoon, and we should reach a high temperature of around 57 degrees Fahrenheit.

I have skimmed but not retained because the pups want some attention. My morning quiet time is almost nil now.

I’m not a fan of biscuits in general. I did like the flaky Grands whomp biscuits. I dunno, there’s something almost sort of chalky (to me) about biscuits, especially frozen biscuits. My husband loves them, though.

Today will consist of chores. I don’t anticipate going anyplace, but I may go to the gas station to fuel up so I’m ready for my commute to the office on Monday.

Okay, the pups are calling for breakfast. Everyone take care. Sending hugs, yays, and boos as appropriate.

Back from a soggy run to Food Lion and a slight divert to bring FCD a McBreakfast. I scored a really nice chuck shoulder roast in the used meat pile, so I need to figure out how I’ll fix it for supper. I plan to invite Daughter and her spawn to dine with us.

MIL is still sleeping so until she gets up, I’ll plant myself in the recliner and read. Because I can!

:grinning:

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 0c/32f with a predicted high of 2c/35f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s cold, like a fucking room full of angry ex-wives.”

Our flight was very smooth, global entry was speedy (took longer to walk to the kiosk than it did toget from there past the border person and into baggage claim!)

Made it to our hotel shortly before midnight so we went straight to bed. Wide awake at 6am though, managed to doze for a bit, might go in search of breakfast soon.

Swampy I am sorry to hear about your friend, I am sure she will be missed.

Mooom guess the party’s off then? I usually win a couple of pounds on the lottery but not enough to cover the cost of the ticket!

Right, time to think about what to do with ourselves today!

Awwww. She loves you! (or she thinks you taste like chicken :stuck_out_tongue: ).

Don’t spend it all in one place!

I’m sorry about your friend Rose’s passing swampy. While expected, you will still miss her.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to whip up a batch of muffins before doing KP. Not a whole lot shaking here today, so I’ll do some more work on the cookbook project. I’m a little over half way through with it now.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

This week went slow, it seems.
Woke at 4, there was less than an inch of snow. Saw one of the local ferals walking through the parking lot.
Going out to eat with a church friend. I was hoping to make friends at church and shes younger than me. I still refuse to admit I’m one of the “old ladies.,”
