(Old) GET READY TO RUM-BEAR! - A Fat Bear Week MMP

Actually, it’s a rare day that goes by that I don’t fantasize about doing just that! And my fantasy is traveling specifically to visit my Mumper friends, who seem very real to me. Except for me it would be thousands of miles since I live in the hinterlands-well, except for baker. They are within a couple hundred miles. It’s a long loop all over the US and into Canada and then a loooong trip over to Europe. Get your guest rooms ready!

I fortunately get to see hippie and his lovely bride every couple of months, he’s just 60 miles away. In fact, just last week he expertly served as my wingman at the used car dealership in his home area as I was buying my replacement Subaru. Made the whole process much less annoying.

I finally got to talk to my mom. She sounded like her usual self, tho I think somewhat oblivious to how serious her problem might be. Or maybe I’m overreacting. She’s supposed to get an EKG either this afternoon or, more likely, tomorrow. But she says after walking maybe 10 feet, her heart was pounding and she had trouble breathing. Anyway, we’ll see.

And we’ll be trying to reschedule our lunch, depending on my sister’s work schedule. As it happens, Bowie is pretty close to halfway. I’d asked them to pick a restaurant, but I’ll still look some up and be ready with some suggestions.

Rain has started again and motivation has not. Lazy day?? Likely.

They ran the gravy through a warm smokehouse?

Honestly. Any half-assed cook can make a decent gravy unless they just don’t give a damn, which is likely.

Happy Sunday everyone.

I’m still upright, and I have been reading. Somehow I allowed myself to be sucked in to pulling parade permits for the next No Kings protest. Of course there isn’t any central state agency you can contact if events are happening in different locations, you need to look up the county, figure out who issues the permits and then fill out thousands of forms.

West Virginia will be in compliance and now I’m helping with PA and MA. Its very tedious and I get tired of looking at my screen much faster than I used to.

I’ve read all, and have sent good thoughts to everyone, but there is no way I’d be able to catch up so I’m not even going to try. Now its stitching time. PS Hippy, lovely quilt and once again your choice of colors is stunning.

I have met doggio and the late, great ruble, as well as Miss OWL for a meal when I lived in Nashville and they were in the area. Should anyone be in Houston, I would be happy to meet up. I’ve also met some who were / are local to Nashville at Dopefests and a couple of mini Mumpfests (talking to you metal mouse and mollie in addition to some sometime Mumpers).

I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I took out the trash and recycling. 3 loads of laundry are done. Spot wanted to play fight, so I kung fu-ed him. Because it’s normal to use The Five Finger Death Punch on your cat.

I have, and met several Mumpers.

I remember Wite-Out.

I cleaned Ariel’s water buckets, including the one with the dead mouse.

EEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Doggio graduated NC State right after me, so it’s conceivable that we could have met.

Tie string to the bucket handle and put the string in the water. Then if a mouse falls in, it can get out.

That reminds me - when I was in Houston eons ago for work-related training, I met with a Doper (I think she was a Mumper, too) for BBQ one night. I’m embarrassed that I can’t recall her name.

I managed to pretty much waste the afternoon, tho I did feed Otis while my sweetie was napping, so that’s something. I don’t plan to be any more productive for the rest of the day.

I love Danny Kaye but never saw this (Court Jester). Absolutely loved him in White Christmas; although I can’t think of what else I’ve seen him in just now. Aaack, at daughter’s today she was talking about me eating a fried oyster, I think, maybe it was oysters rockefeller, in NOLA when we went for Mardi Gras in 2019. I don’t remember this. Then she pulled out her phone, first found the itinerary of everything we did on that trip, then found a video of me eating the oyster. Kids!

Good going flyboy!

My favorite Pepperidge Farm cookies are Orange Chocolate Milano. Never had the Chessmen, with 2 recommendations I’ll have to give them a try.

Day went like I mentioned this morning: 10am mass where our group of St Vincent de Paul Society sat in front pews and received a special blessing, then hurried home and picked up Hubs and my bag that I had packed earlier with casual clothes. Drove to daughter’s church, they weren’t quite ready for the pet blessing so we went in to the coffee hour and I had some baked french toast that was exceptional along with a raspberry dip that I put on the french toast, some pulled chicken with the best sauce (not sure what it was but it hit the spot). I took one meatball, cut it into small pieces and gave them to Bella as I was eating. Then the pets were blessed, there were treats for the dogs and cats and ice cream sandwiches for the rest of us. One good thing I learned is about the family from Venezuela that this church helps. The Dad had been ‘detained’, seems like he was in detention for at least 6 months but he recently got out and was at the pet blessing. Yay! Bella barked at him as he was wearing a baseball cap; she doesn’t like men wearing baseball caps.

Next we went to daughter’s. Changed into Tshirt and shorts while her girlfriend grilled chicken wings, corn and bratwurst. I had a brat on a bun with Duke’s mayo, tomatoes and green onions, also a corn on the cob. Hubs and I were asked to sit down as they had something to share. They would like our blessing to get married next June; daughter said we likely would need to pray about it. Then she and I took Bella for a walk while Hubs watched the end of the Lions game.

Now home and not hungry so I’ll watch the Indiana Fever game. It’s the first game of the WNBA playoffs for them; they’re playing the Las Vegas Aces.

And a good late afternoon all. Got my NY Times on the way to Golden Corral, they didn’t have the pot roast out yet so I made do with the meatloaf and fries and finished with a brownie, 3 cookies and a slice of pecan pie. After that I definitely needed to go to the gym and watched the tackleball games while treading mills and pedaling bicycles to nowhere. Home now and will add some of those calories back in a little bit this evening but most of the heavy stuff is done and internettin’ and general RDOS non-activities will take care of what remains of the day. Supposed to be 80F outside but sure doesn’t feel like it, very comfortable and AC is enjoying the week off.

Oopsie, I’ve considered traveling around to places where I could meetup with folks here, as mentioned I’ve met FCM and red a couple of times and mollie and his Missus. Probably could get out to some of the others without too much trouble. I have committed to taking the whole gang on a trip if I ever hit the lottery jackpot, but don’t hold your breath on that happening.

FCM, I really so need to attend to my garage…one of these days… ANd so glad you got to talk to Mom, but from what she describes she’s in the right place for now.

Mollie, good points, but I keep the car locked when not in the garage and haven’t had any issues, but I’ll consider the velcro idea.

Flyboy, appendages crossed that the application hits a homer.

Cookie, yay! for Dinner and Boo! for breakfast. Love biscuits but never been a fan of gravy, so wouldn’t know good from bad.

52, high today was 83F, so we’re heading in the right direction, hope you start cooling down soon. Enjoy Mom’s. And it seems to depend on the shoe, it’s not bad with the loosest one I have, but any other (which are not a problem with the other foot) brings out the owie. About 10 days to the podiatrist appointment.

JtC, I know it’s not much fun, but having the proper and legal paperwork really does protect you and others, and Bravo for you taking on this duty, tedious as it is.

Wet one, well, at least it was dead and not doing the backstroke…

Cat Glove, glad Bella is blessed and Venezuela Dad was home to celebrate.

OK, after 6pm so sammich time and then back to the internettin’ and tackleball watchin’.

If they used my garage door opener all they would get is 2 inoperable lawn tractors and a couple of ladders. My garage isn’t connected to the house.

I got a new thingy to deal with the back…like it so far.

FCM Glad you got to talk with Mom.

cookie It is sooo easy to make sausage gravy, they just must not care.

JtC Thank you for doing the good works.

I’d be down for meeting a Mumper if’n anyone comes to upstate NY. Rochester-Syracuse is about my limit. Unless someone wants to go to Cooperstown and see the Baseball HOF. I’ve been driving past it for 25 years and still haven’t stopped.

It’s Sunday evening, but happily I’m facing a relatively easy slide into the work week because (a) I don’t have to do laundry (I did it last week, in prep for the trip I didn’t take), and (b) I get to be home tomorrow. I also changed my sheets this morning, and am looking forward to eventually climbing into a fresh bed tonight.

I did go to the grocery store after my last post, and when I got back home it was raining hard enough that I pulled into the garage to unload vs staying in the driveway and programming the garage door opener remote. I ate lunch and read for a long time, then during a lull in the rain I did the remote thing – but it didn’t work! I re-read the instructions/tried several times, but I wasn’t in a very patient mood: I’d already pulled the car back in and put my keys back upstairs before it occurred to me to Google the issue…and of course one of the first things in the results is likely the problem[1]. :woman_facepalming: Oh well. Heh. I might try again at some point tomorrow.

After the garage adventure I read some more, and wound up finishing the book I was reading: #2 in David Baldacci’s King & Maxwell series. The Maxwell character started to annoy me in this one, but I decided to take a chance and buy #3 anyway. I’ll start reading it either tonight or sometime this week.

I still have a bunch of TV to catch up on, but for whatever reason I’m not really in the mood for any of it tonight. Instead, I just re-watched the 2020 documentary Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker, about Debbie Allen’s dance school in LA and its annual Nutcracker production. A friend – who is a huge Nutcracker fan – and I are hoping to get tickets and fly out there in December for one of this year’s public performances. Last night I started binge-re-watching the old show Sports Night, for the billionth time, and that’s also what I’m watching right now (it isn’t streaming anywhere; I bought both seasons on iTunes many years ago).

And, with that, it’s time to start the NY Times online puzzles. See y’all in the new thread!

I love many Pepperidge Farm varieties, including just about all of the Milanos. The Orange Chocolate Milanos are quite good, and Mint Milanos have a special place in my heart, but I’ve been on a Chessmen kick for quite a while now.

I’m also on something of a Golden Oreo kick at the moment, and am about to open a “fresh stack” of four of them.

I’ve been wanting to go to the HOF for years! It’s 2.5 hours north of where my uncle and aunt have a place…he’s a huge baseball guy, so I wonder if he might be up for a day trip sometime (if I ever get up there to visit them). I’ll let you know if that ever happens!

  1. I think “lock” is turned on at the wall panel, which keeps any new remotes from pairing ↩︎

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and then got stoner food to bring back to da cave to eat. There’s sump’n in the air as my sinuses have been achy. I did not go to my group thing this afternoon. Instead, I took a nap with Ben. I feel better after that, but still have achy sinuses. I think I’ll sleep with Ben again tonight. I really enjoyed church. Joshua is a great preacher and likes to zoom through Communion. Thought I was goin’ to break a sweat durin’ the Eucharistic Prayer, he was goin’ so fast. Then again, I can’t blame him for wantin’ to get it all done and hit the road as he had to drive back to Savannah today and that’s quite a haul from here. That pretty much sums up the news from swampland.

My son and Zeus came up yesterday because he had to go to a housewarming party not too awfully far from us. We dogsat Zeus and they both stayed the night. They left not long ago and dinner is in the oven.

I like the Chessman cookies too; simple and not sickly sweet or artificial tasting.

I remember Swampfest when he came to Seattle. We had Mumpers come up from Oregon, as well as several others in the general Puget Sound region. I had a good time! I got to meet FCM and another Mumper in DC, and finally, I met a no longer active Mumper in San Diego. I enjoyed each and every meet-up.

My new slider with built in pet door is finally going to be installed this coming Friday. I am looking forward to it.

Tedious is the perfect word for it. IMO, it won’t stop anyone from getting arrested if the SS shows up, but we will have a good start on the lawsuit. Which won’t hurt them personally or professionally, it will just raise taxes on everyone. Grumbles. At least I’m well used to government paperwork and my keyboard skillz are still top-notch.

Never had them, but will look when I’m in town tomorrow.

That poor man, I hope he was looking reasonably healthy.

How’s your mattress? Do you think replacing it might help some with your back as well?

Anyone wanna meet up for the Mothman festival in two years? We would need to make hotel reservations now for next year and that’s not a lot of time.

I hope you are feeling better in the morning, sinus infections are no fun at all.

HURRAY!!! But…what about when it rains? You won’t be at the door to towel your wet puppers off when they come in.

So I got caught up with stuff this morning and went to the capital in the afternoon. The weather has turned perfect and the trees are really starting to show color. We’ve had all of the windows open for a few days, it has been lovely.

I am fairly sure the hummers are gone for the winter, I haven’t seen any for two days so I started my count. If I don’t see any in the next 12 days, the feeders will come down. If I do, the two week count will start again.

So that’s it for this week, I’ll catch you all on the morrow. Have great nights all!

Congratulations to your daughter and future DIL!

I took out the trash then did a drive thru for some fried chicken, as I had a gnawin’ and a cravin’. Now, it’s just surfing until time to take Nelson out.

Last late-night final of the week. Not that I have accomplished anything much since my last note, outside of adding back some of the calories I burned, but still pretty positive numbers for the week. Not too tired as I was in bed until 8am today, so will browse a little more before Slumberland beckons. Also have some Ken-Ken puzzles to work on and that will keep what’s left of my mind occupied. Temperature is down to 65F so another comfortable night’s sleep without the AC or heater on. My October electric and gas bills should be more pleasant reading than they have been lately…

VanGo, never been to Cooperstown, just not that interested in it, but never been to upstate NY area and I’ve heard it’s pretty up there so who knows… If you (or any other Mumper) ever get down N. Ali-bama way, I’ll take you to the US Space and Rocket Center and the Jack Daniels Distillery.

Oopsie, good luck with the garage door. And additional good luck with the tickets.

Taters, of course we’ll want pictures of the new door with built-in pet device.

And that’s all I wrote for this week. Catch y’all on the next MMP.
