(Old) Get To the Chopper! A Bastille Day MMP

Made me think of this:
Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie,: Kissed the girls and made them cry,: When the girls came out to play,: Georgie Porgie ran away.
George is a sweetie. Sorry that thunder scares him. I love sitting in our conversatory and watching the rain and lightning and listening to the thunder. As I grew up in Seattle, I didn’t grow up with thunder and lightning, despite what some may see on shows based in Seattle (looking at you, Grey’s Anatomy).

Monster’s Inc and Hot Fuzz. The first one is all warm and fuzzy and the second one has everybody getting their just desserts. Yarp!

Sounds promising.

Today is chores. So far, cleaned the bathrooms, including a deep scrubbing of the shower, vacuumed, defrosted the freezer part of the fridge (bit overdue) and now I’m going to change my mind and make a cranberry pie, because I’m trying to clean out the big freezer downstairs. It’s not getting defrosted at the moment - just making space so I can put new stuff in it.

Making vege burritos for lunch and ⅔ of the recipe is going in the freezer for post vacation / post surgery meals.

Need to get cooking.

Happy Sunday!

Of course! Bust she loves me when she needs me to share a hotspot with her. I’ve had a lot of compliments from people about how hard she’s working. They don’t need to know that her brain turns off at the front door and her brain circuit is completely incapable of mastering the intricacies of navigating acceptable locations for dirty socks.

In alternate universes, 16-year-olds can comprehend that clothes hampers and living room floors are not so physically similar to be confusing, but here on Planet Earth it’s not that straightforward.

And now we’re where no one is around, she wants lots of hugs. Very normal behavior.

SenBoy has now graduated to the stage of needing Dad’s money but wanting all the time with his friends. It’s all good.

The second day of the races went better. We’ve got the system in place for the operations side.

I still get nervous handing the horns because if you are more than a fraction of a second off, the whole sequence needs to be repeated and everyone hates you, your children and their children. Everyone except the Italians, they hate you and your descendants for five generations.

Fortunately, we have clocks and watches that are synced by radio signals or whatever they use. Yesterday, and the day before that, the master timekeeper was trying to use a kitchen timer(!) but it was off by almost a second.

At first, I nicely informed him of the discrepancy and suggested switching entirely to the official clocks. I blow the horn by the correct time, but it’s annoying as hell for him to be counting down off beat. It also makes for possible errors.

Today, I finally overruled him and started calling out the correct time. He got the message and switched over to the correct procedure.

The Japanese race committee does really well. The chairman of the race committee is one of our coaches, and he regularly runs races. He’s really professional. He’s really a pleasure to work with somebody like that.

There was a party for the committee and the race staff but I begged off today. I need some down time.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall do morning cleaning, and afternoon sloth. Spot has jumped directly to sloth.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with a predicted high of 20c/68f and cloudy. Weather app says “Fucking cloudy as shit.”

red congrats on the apartment!

Cookie Sadie really has bonded with you. Our girls haven’t quite, but they are getting closer to us. They do come to see where we are, and then go away again when we have been located. And Muffin, well, she’s still Miffin

Mooom sorry to hear about FCD, I hope he can eventually be persuaded to see someone who may be able to help.

Yesterday was fun, we went to the festival and saw a band we really like, then popped into the café in the park for some lunch, then back to the festival for more good stuff. There were two extra acoustic performances in the VIP area, I watched both of them while 'im indoors skipped the second one as it clashed with a band he wanted to see. The first one was very good, it was a band who admitted they weren’t too sure how well their songs would work as acoustics but they did a great job.

It was a good day, the morning rain cleared up by early afternoon and the rest of the day was sunny. Hopefully today will be just the same. So I had better get myself ready to go out!

Our gym has TVs high on the walls and connected to Pluto. One of them shows vintage episodes of “The Price is Right” I asked about it and the guy at the desk says that one member requested it and rides an exercise bike in front of it a lot of the time.

I saw a quick ad on it and I found that the channel is “The Price is Right 24/7”

Morning all. Up and been to the store for my Sunday NY TImes and a few other things, have the dishwasher running and the TV on to the Open (love how the British call things without adding a qualifier, as if everyone knows it has to be them…The Open, The Times). Only 77F this morning, going up to 91F and only a 1-in-5 chance for rain. Nothing much planned for the day, may go to the gym, may not, depends how much I eat at Logan’s Roadhouse for dinner. Still have to assemble my new vacuum/rug cleaner, I walk by the parts a dozen times a day but it doesn’t seem to trigger my ‘do this now’ button. We’ll see.

As for guilty pleasures movie, I still like the New York based Godzilla with Matthew Brodrick, can’t really explain why but I just enjoy watching it.

Pilot, happy rendezvous with GF. And never been to Costa Rica but have heard great things about it…one of these days…

red, I’m not on a budget plan, I pay as it goes and the service fee is different, so I wonder if the computer screwed up. Just need to know so i can get my budget straight.

Congrats for that, just remember not to goose the engine…

doggio, guess they are trying to get rid of stupid drivers, hopefully their union will get the word out and it will fall flat.

FCM, hope the fog lifted for you. Sounds like a nice excursion.

Happy Vergering, swampy.

Sensei, sounds like normal kids, and glad the racing is going fine; I use a stopwatch when refereeing as do most folks, and I’ve noticed none of us are quite the same. Glad things worked out on the horns.

boo fae, happy festivating!!

hippie, my gym is pretty much plugged in to ESPN and/or the movie channel they get (one movie a day on repeat). And I can’t imagine watching the Price is Right for 24 hours…

And here I am at the bottom of the thread. Take care all.

Mornin’ all.

It’s 55°F and mostly cloudy outside. It’s expected to remain cloudy throughout the day, with a high temperature of 73°F. I’m good with that.

FCM, maybe this trip will make FCD see the necessity of visiting a neurologist. I’m sorry he’s in pain. I hope today’s day trip goes well.

JtC, I just love GG, and that says a lot, because I’m a dog person. He sounds like the world’s biggest sweetie pie, and some of his actions remind me of Buster, who kindly sits back and let’s Maisie have the toy or treat he had in his mouth.

Cookie, I love Sadie’s eyes. They are beautiful.

Red, congrats on the new living quarters!

I worked my ass off yesterday. We were at U-Haul by 9:00 a.m. to pick up our ramp trailer. We were back home just a few minutes later to load up all the tree and bush branches. When it was loaded, that was nearly a thousand pounds of stuff. We hauled it to the dump, unloaded it, drove back home, loaded the trailer with E-waste (an old monitor, TV, and computer), and hauled it to a recycler because they take that stuff for free. We stopped to pick up lunch on the way home, ate it, and loaded the trailer again with our old computer chairs, a busted steam cleaner, stuff from the garage freezer, and lots of other crap from the garage and house. We drove back to the dump, unloaded the trailer again, swept it out, and went back to U-Haul to drop off the trailer. We could have kept it overnight, but I didn’t want to mess with it today. When it was all said and done, we were back home by 12:30.

But, dear friends, I was not yet done. I then spent the next five hours defrosting and chipping out the garage freezer. The inside was coated in several inches of ice and frost on every surface. We plan to get rid of that freezer and will take it to the recycling center, because they’ll take it for free, versus the dump charging us a hundred bucks. After doing that, I rearranged my side of the garage. I moved everything, swept and blew out debris, and then put everything in it’s new place. I need to break down cardboard since my husband didn’t want to take it to the dump.

I’ve already warned my husband that we need to take everything out of the garage and give it a thorough cleanout. We have a ton of items just loaded onto our shelving units, and they’re all out of order. Plus, we need to replace one of the units. It’s been driving me nuts.

However, that’s a project for another day, and we did accomplish a lot yesterday. If I hadn’t have had to deal with the freezer, I think the whole garage would have been done yesterday. However, it’s not as if I don’t have any time now.

I think today will consist of laundry and sloth. You all take care of yourselves.

I hope you all have a good day.

Impressive!

As for me, my lovely wife and her sister plan to do some travel-related shopping. I’ll stay home and clean my study/write.

Today I’ll clean my wound and we’ll see if my lovely wife can actually tease out some of the wadding that’s holding it open to drain. Good times.

Red remind me of where to and why you are moving.

My guilty pleasure movies are Jaws, The Great Escape, Leafue of Extraordinary Gentlemen,Animal House and a bunch of others I can’t remember.

I’m moving to Houston. I recently retired and am moving close to my sister.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After, I’ll bathe Nelson, shower and put on pants to take a card over to my neighbor. I’ll likely pack a couple of boxes today, but not a whole lot else on the agenda.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The difference is that we have set start times and with radio controlled watches it’s easy to be perfect. The sailors set their stop watches by the horns so I prefer being accurate

I just decided to DoorDash some Panera for lunch: it’s supposed to arrive in 20-30 min, so this will be a short/quick post.

My proposal tagup got cancelled this morning, but I wound up working for 3 hours because yesterday afternoon I learned that I’d completely screwed up most of the duration calculations (between dates) in the resumes I’m working on. For the second time. :woman_facepalming: I finally stopped trying to do the math in my head – never a great idea – and pulled up a trusty Date to Date Calculator, and checked every single calculation in the 15 pages. I made a bunch of updates, and took screenshots of every online result just in case anyone ever questions the method. I feel much better about the file now, and decided that several hours of unexpected work earns me some delivered lunch! LOL!

I never got around to starting the wooden streetcar model yesterday…sloth got the better of me…but I unpacked and arranged some of the pieces before I began working this morning, and there’s a good chance I’ll start putting it together after lunch.

I screwed that up, too! :woman_facepalming: I figured it was possible to have a 2026 model, but didn’t bother to consider the likelihood of it actually having 20k miles already. Heh.

Oooo, I also love that one! I think of it as two movies, though; I always take an intermission at the end of basic training.

(“Aaarmy training, sir!”)

Several streaming services offer what’s called Free, Ad-Supported Television (FAST): often it takes the form of channels dedicated to a particular show or genre (with commericals). I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there are dedicated Bob Ross channels, and I know there are other The Price is Right channels. Amazon Prime has a bunch of FAST channels: I am somehow comforted by knowing that The Repair Shop is always on.

A sunny and mild 74F in the Twin Cities as of noon-ish. Some rain heading our way later in the week, which the tomatoes will love.

I’m back to taking walks. I hate to say that Trump inspires me to do anything but weep, but his leg issues alerted me to that ailment of the elderly, and so I’m being proactive. I do seated exercise three days a week, mostly yoga-esque, so some actual walking is a good add.

Otherwise, no news of note.

Sounds like a smart move.

I’ve lightly blotted the scalp ick with boiled, filtered water and I’m now letting it recover under a layer of triple antibiotic. I of course had bumped it (lightly but painfully) while changing a lightbulb in the guest bathroom.

My lovely wife and her sister are malling, so I’m going to put on some music and work on gettting my study tidy enough for writing.

I cannot conceive of what you’re talking about architecturally. But I get the gist of what your goal is. You brazen hussy you! My favorite kind!

This station is a single open air concrete platform alongside a siding with the two-track mainline just beyond. And a busy city boulevard just beyond that.

There’s an indoor waiting area next to the platform that also has the ticket vending & ticket-taking machinery as well as the lightweight airport-style security: a baggage xray belt + magnetometer portal for the people. Access into the building beyond the foyer and hence onto the platform is limited to paying customers; I have to meet her streetside once she exits the building.

That is just a criminal dick move from end to end. So much in line with the zeitgeist.

Daa-aaad! (or Moo-ooommm!) You’re ruining my life! [stomp stomp stomp away][do the hair toss].

Sigh. I remember being that kid. At least occasionally.

Sounds like the yachting sailing racing is going great. I almost said “swimmingly”, but a successful race has as little of that as possible and ideally none at all.

Good Gawd there @Taters! That’s a heaping helping of work!!1! As to this bit …

I’m confused. If it’s going to be gotten rid of anyhow, just unplug it, remove or prop open the door and let Mother Nature and Father Time complete the defrosting for you. While you tackle other projects or take a rest.

You’ve certainly earned it!

FYI the Calculator app built into Windows has a date calculation mode that does the same thing. Has had since about Win7.

Congrats for goofs averted and massive productivity on a Sunday.

@susan Good to hear the cystic mess is resolving. Funny how often we can’t avoid whacking a recent wound no matter where it is.

As to me …
Now about 2pm after a slow lazy start on a warm day. Stopped and bought some flowers at TJ’s across the street, both a colorful mixed bouquet and a dozen red roses. That adds up to three vases full for the two-and-a-half rooms of my vast and palatial estate.

Doping & digesting after late breakfast has put me in mind of a nap. I need to be up in about 3 hours to go pick GF up at the station, so the timing of my yawning is perfect.

ZZZzzzz forth on a lazy Sunday.

Concur. Mesmerizing color.

Absolutely!

I love(d) Panera, but the last time I went they were out of bread and I’d gone specifically for soooooouuuuuuup plus extra bread. I was so mad I canceled the soup and drove off. Haven’t been back since … plus I read they’re changing their bread supplier/baker, and if you believe that change will be for the better (taste, as opposed to profits) well, bless your heart.

As for movies, nothing is more fun than getting hammered while watching “Bad Santa.”

Whelp { slaps thighs } I gotta get at least moderately sheveled, and go pick up Sprinkles on the way to work.

Oh, I left half a frozen mocha in the walk-in freezer; it better still be there!!

I didn’t know what to have for breakfast, so I made myself a salami-and-cheddar sandwich.

The pastor announced this morning that we may have noticed that one of the guys who fronts the band hasn’t been fronting the band. Apparently there was a discussion where the guy quoted some scripture that went against the spirit of the church, and he was asked to step away. He decided to quit the church.

Mrs. L.A. got a weed-puller that’s slick as snot. Heck, I might even pull some weeds!

I’ve got the dishwasher running.

The Spousal Unit doesn’t know it, but I’m planning on making fajitas for dinner tonight.

And…I fail at sloth. Watering the posies morphed into weed whacking, mowing, blowing, scraping and pulling bark off the top ledge of my wall, cleaning the kitchen, and now I’ll proceed with laundry.

Shoe, I would have had a lake in my garage if I had let it defrost on it’s own. It was that bad. I had bins on the floor of the freezer (it’s an upright). iI had to empty them every five minutes or so, and I still ended up with water on the garage floor that required mopping up.

My husband recommended just moving it out of the garage, but we’ll, let’s just say the neighbors would have been aghast.

Back from our excursion, which fortunately was good despite a majorly sucky beginning. We got an email a couple of weeks ago saying the excursion was at 12 instead of 12:30 and to show up 30 minutes ahead of time. It also gave specific instructions of where to meet.

Well, a bunch of us showed up as instructed and waited… and waited… and waited. There was no representative nearby to answer any questions, probably because it’s Sunday. Finally we were directed to the waiting area, so we all gathered there. And waited… and waited… and finally some buses showed up, but not ours.

Then at long last, our bus arrived. It took a while to load us all because rather than scan our tickets (emails) she looked up our names on her tablet. And because of the crowd, we were among the last 4 aboard, so way in the back with the crappy semi-blocked windows. And at last, we were on our way.

First stop was Geysir - I posted a video on FB of the eruption - it was worth waiting for. Afterwards, we spent way too much money on souvenirs for Daughter’s family, Casey, and one for FCD.

Next stop was Gullfoss, a waterfall that a local woman saved from being harnessed for hydroelectric power. It’s a gorgeous natural area, so yay for her!

Last stop was the crevace between the North America plate and the EuroAsian plate - what an amazing geological sight! I’ll get pics up on FB once I post this.

We’re back on the ship. Tomorrow, we need to meet at 8 for our trip to lava fields and the Viking Museum. Tonight, we chill. Despite the lousy start, it ended up a good day.

SenGirl isn’t overly dramatic, but it’s interesting watching their development. As a parent, you go from being an omnipotent god who is expected to know and control everything, to being worse than the village idiot, and that change seems to happen in the blink of an eye.

Some of the Japanese families from out of town are staying at the same place and I talked to two fathers who are on the rescue boats.

Japanese can be really reserved about talking about issues , but they opened up about things which were causing problems for them.

It the middle of the race but I’ll see if we can get things changed. Not likely but we’ll see.
