(Old) Getting back into your groove in the MMP

Up, but not quite at ‘em yet. Looking out at smoke haze, which was supposed to have dissipated by now.

Part of today will be spent making butternut squash soup with star anise and garlic shrimp. We’ll be having that tomorrow when my daughter is over for a visit. Also need to make a run to Walgreen’s, as I’ve run out of Breathe Right strips. Otherwise, not much happening.

Don’t ever hide anything anywhere. If you as an oldster suddenly get the notion to hide something “for safekeeping” or to “get it out of the way”, STOP.

When you think “hide”, change your mind.

That’s the message.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 60°F and mostly cloudy. By afternoon, we’ll shift to partly cloudy skies with a daytime high of 79°F. I may start working on that front garden bed, or I might pressure wash my front porch and driveway.

Boo, I was only relating my particular experience and meant no offense. There are parts of every state that are probably not the most scenic, and believe me, when you’re in a semi, you don’t get to see all the lovely parts.

Sticky, I was a few weeks pregnant with my daughter when I was in the semi with my husband. I found the trip kind of fun for the most part, but this was in the days before cell phones, so waiting for my husband to receive his next load while on hold at a pay phone was not the most exciting part of the trip. Anyway, I got to see a lot of the country, which I hadn’t traveled since I had been a wee child, and I loved that part of it. It was work for my husband, of course, but it’s a time we both look back on fondly.

Pilot, sending you hugs. That’s a tough anniversary.

Belated happy doperversary wishes, FCM.

Alrighty, I need more coffee. You all take care.

Air quality action day in no. Illinois. I cancelled my riding lesson because my hand hurts, and my instructor got kicked in the knee yesterday and is in a B.A.brace. It’s a good day to stay home and read and watch teevee.

A friend used to say that when their house, which they’d at the time lived in for ~seventeen years (and eventually lived in for ~forty), is torn down, the workers will find many, many birthday and Xmas presents that were hidden “where the recipient won’t find them early”.

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. More packing and an oil change are on tap for today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

@LSLGuy , that’s hard.

It’s Saturday night here. I’ve been not getting enough sleep, worring about the house project and other things. After teaching in the evening, I took a nap for a couple of hours.

It’s time to unwind and get some sleep.

Bailey’s vet appointment was supposed to be just an injection (her second monthly Librela shot), but the doc and I wound up needing to talk about her weight. A month ago she hadn’t been eating for a couple of weeks – she was in a not eating/no meds/pain/not eating cycle, which is why we went to the vet in the first place – but after I was able to get meds into her again she began eating like a horse: three meals a day almost every day, which is more than I’ve ever seen this dog eat before! However, at yesterday’s appointment she’d managed to lose a pound. She had a bunch of bloodwork done last month that all came back normal, so the doc said the next step would be an ultrasound. He agreed that it can wait until the next injection: we’ll see what happens with her appetite and weight for one more month, but I’ll definitely request the ultrasound if she continues to eat well without gaining weight – and especially if she keeps losing weight.

She’s a medium-sized hound mix who weighed 45 pounds at her healthiest. 16 months ago she weighed 40 pounds, which was still a good weight, but since then she’s been steadily losing: 1 month ago she weighed 33.6 pounds, and yesterday she weighed 32.3 pounds. Some of that is muscle loss, but not all of it…and, she definitely shouldn’t have lost a full pound in the face of how much she’s been eating lately. The doc said there could be several causes, some of which are quite treatable even in an old dog, so I’m somewhat concerned but not really worried. Yet.

In other news, I’m about to go visit WifeBFF in the hospital. A blister on one of her heels became infected, and when she went to the ER on Wednesday – at the direction of one of her regular doctors during a scheduled appointment – they admitted her. Her test results had been unremarkable and yesterday afternoon they were working on her discharge plan, but then one of the docs told her they’d detected some staph and would be keeping her a little longer. HusbandBFF usually gets to her room at around 4pm and stays until visiting hours end, so I’ll go in about an hour and get some quality time with her before he arrives. She was just starting to be mostly recovered from March’s shoulder replacement, and now this. :frowning:

That’s the year my brother was born…in West Germany.

:people_hugging:

Good luck with Bailey. And WifeBFF. And thank you.

And a late good morning all. Slept in and then ate breakfast (Carnation Instant Breakfast and a banana) and enjoyed it so much I had a second breakfast (Corn Flakes and milk) so I am well fed at least. Then got diverted by a couple You Tubes I follow and…well, here I am. Another nice weather day, 82F now and ‘only’ getting to 86F, so not to bad. No rain today but a 60% chance for tomorrow, so we’ll see. Nothing much planned, I really need to do some house cleaning, but motivation is lacking.

Now to see what has happened in Mumperland in the past 13 hours…

boo fae, safe trip home.

Oopsie, best wishes to both Bailey and WifeBFF.

And I guess I should get off my fundament and go do something…and I think I’d better think it out again…

Take care all.

Today’s shopping in wild south Philly was accompanied by murders of crows. So many crows. At one point I saw 10 gathered by a dumpster (skip). Others were in trees and on electrical wires.

The falcons are very improved, they were catching thermals over the river. A lot less flapping and more soaring.

I went for a walk ‘early’ this morning. 07:10. Walked two and a half miles, shaved and showered, cooked breakfast, and have pretty much just been kicking back for the last almost three hours. I did dust the corners of the living room and the kitchen that The Spousal Unit couldn’t reach.

So I was on the Slides long enough to get some of the overgoods done. But as usual, I ended up on the 200 Sort table. Not as bad as HazMat had today. Between a big spill on the 200 table, and a couple of apocalypses elsewhere, they had three people cleaning up the mess. At least I got out at noon. But I’ve showered, started laundry, and had my bacon and eggs. And this gin&tonic tastes like I’m not going to work on Moanday, because Vacation!

Somebody lost another large John Deere part today. I’m sure Johnny Cash is proud.

I remember them. No great loss.

We went to Daughter’s and got the TV installed in the club house. After we left, Daughter hooked it up with a Roku and sent me a pic of Tobias slouched in a chair watching Bluey. Speaking of Tobias - he’s finally calling his sister Roxy. First it was TiTi, then Sassy. None of us have any idea where those names came from. But today is the first time I heard him actually say Roxy! He was also especially huggy today - he didn’t want me to leave. Awwwwww!

I got a little bit done today - I emptied the dishwasher and I’ve got a pot of navy bean and ham soup simmering away. In about an hour, I’ll add the carrots and celery.

The weather is glorious here. I think the temp topped out at 77°, tho the sun just came out, so it may warm a tad before sunset. But I’ll definitely be opening windows tonight - it might drop as low as 59°!! Looking out to the end of the month, there are no more 90° days forecast, not that it means anything this far out. But a girl can hope, right??

Speaking of truckers, my best friend in high school wanted to be a trucker at one point. Then she wanted to be a doctor. She ended up being a health inspector for Baltimore city and county. Not that that has anything to do with anything.

Time to give the soup a little stir, then continue my trashy reading. Supper will be good tonight!

Howdy Y’all! I was indeed productive today. I made the cake this mornin’ and prepped the casserole. It will be baked in the mornin’. I also prepped sup and cooked the beans and squishes. Nappage and day drinkin’ were achieved so as not to damage my RDOS cred. We had a late lunch/early sup (I call that suppunch cause it amuses me) because we wanted to. Looks and sounds like a tstorm is brewin’, so in a bit we shall retire to the back porch and watch whilst we sip on gin and tonic. We feel the need to ward off scurvy and malaria. The gin helps the citrus and quinine go down easier.

I have been wearin’ my hearin’ aids most of the day. I am quite noisy in the kitchen! Watched tutorials on how to adjust settin’s and so forth. Tomorrow will be the great in public for the first time experiment. MOOOOOOM no worries about misplacement on my part. There’s a handy little case to place ‘em in to charge. It sets on my nightstand. That’s where they stay when not in my ears.

OK, the booms are gettin ‘ louder. Time to sit on the porch and likker up!

“Sissy”?

I was given very ripe plums, so I’ve made sangria with a non-alcoholic sparkling wine (+ plums, oranges, blueberries, strawberries, and honey).

I have watered the backyard grass.

I have updated some wording in my novel. I have chosen a section of my draft to read at a writer’s potluck. I will stop to buy a snack to share.

I think that’s it for now.

A free tip, lovingly offered:

It’s possible that while you are out and about with your hearing aids you might have occasion or need to take them out, whether that’s one ear or the other says they have worn out their welcome/tolerance for that day or you’re caught in pouring rain or stuck somewhere and sweating like crazy,a haircut, you’re getting an X-ray or MRI unexpectedly, any number of things and you might need a safe place to stash them so they won’t be lost. Their night table charging case is pretty heavy for its size and also would ruin the line of your swanky clothes in a pocket, so have something handy that gets them home undamaged and unlost. Do not think a pocket is a good place-don’t ask me how I know, but it cost me several thousand dollars to learn that lesson🙄. Discreetly tucked into your bra (not your first option I suppose) is also a bad idea, but that also cost only $300 since they were still under warranty for loss. I learned the bra lesson but failed to extrapolate that learning to a pants pocket being just as bad an idea.

So, carry a rigid eyeglass case in your pocket. Your hearing aids will fit in it just fine even if your spare pair or sunglasses are still in the case, at least long enough to get them home. No one will think anything of it, they’ll just think it’s your sunglasses or reading glasses. I slap an address label inside the eyeglass case just in case I set it down somewhere or it falls out of my purse.

And good on you for looking up your instructions and fiddling with the settings. Way to go!

This is completely foreign to me. Why would you water the grass, that just makes it grow, then you need to mow it. Plus my backyard is over the leach field of my septic system. It never gets dry.

On that note, mowage achieved, my back is not happy about it. I fear I need to dig into the fuel supply system of the rider, since it won’t stay running. Had to do everything with the push mower. I’m good with mechanical shit, but gas motors are not my strong suit.

No, it was definitely Sassy. Kids are mysterious.

The bean soup was a disappointment - the beans were crunchy, well, very firm anyway. I have no idea why - it’s the same recipe I’ve been using for years. I’ve put it back on to boil, hoping that fixes is. It didn’t taste bad, but the texture was wrong. So we’ll see.

Mrs. L.A. went to visit with one of the overpass protesters a while ago. The elderly woman is very involved; but a couple of weeks ago a ‘statie’ (State Patrol) said she was in violation of a law and that she could get a ticket. She had a letter a lawyer sent to (I think ) WSP after another group down in Everett or someplace got a similar warning. Mrs. L.A. used to be a paralegal once upon a time, so she looked up the law. Nope. No violation. It didn’t pertain. Anyway, the woman is a little scared; so Mrs. L.A. went do to chat with her and give her some support and offer resources that she found. In the meantime…

I took the Jeep up to the self-wash and got it looking fairly respectable (for a 26-year-old SUV with an emphasis on the ‘U’), got Windex and 409 refills at the hardware store while waiting for freight train to pass, went to the supermarket for foaming cleaners (the hardware store didn’t have any – SWMBO wanted Kaboom! but nobody had any, so I got Scrubbing Bubbles and Oxy-Clean foamers), got a couple of boxes of frozen spinach (there was none in bags), and picked up a very nice piece of sockeye salmon. Thence to the liquor store for a large bottle of Evan Williams bourbon. Oh, yeah… Before all that, I went to the corner market for a couple of their excellent (from Costco) rib-eye steaks.

Forty minutes until the cats get fed their gooshy food. We’re having rib-eyes grilled on the barbie, with creamed spinach w/feta for dinner.

The Return Of The Pink Panther just started at three.
