I hope that she starts gaining again soon. That’s a pretty big weight loss.
Sorry if I missed this, but are you going somewhere special?
Sometimes, that happens when your beans are old.
I got the oil changed today and finished sorting / packing the laundry room. All that I need to do there now is to take the hardware for hanging things down.
I was wondering if that could have been a factor. I guess I need to check my beans for a use-by date in the future. But I didn’t think these were that old - that is, I’m pretty sure I’d bought them within the last year. Of course, that’s not to say they hadn’t been sitting on the shelf for some time. Anyway, I’ve boiled them some more, and now they’re cooling down. So we’ll see.
And a good early evening to y’all. Spent considerable time at the gym, a fair amount of it either reading or cell-phone browsing, but did get some exercise in. Have had a couple of cheese dogs to assuage my hunger and will have my usual Big Bowl of Pasta later tonight. Cloudly now but still no rain and temperature is 80F, so cooler (for various levels of cooler).
rocky,
Don’t go by any school with children singing and lots of monkey bars…
doggio, Happy Almost Vacation Day!
swampy, like BBBoo recommends, you should be able to get a little case (fits fine in your pants pocket) that will safely hold your hearing aids. If your hearing aid place doesn’t have them, you can get them almost anywhere (here’s a Wal-Mart ad:Robot or human? )
Flyboy, yay! for Mrs. LA making things brighter for her fellow protester.
And that’s all for now, stay tuned for the late-night final.
Evening, y’all!! I know it’s quite late in the week already, but figured I’d pop in again to see how y’all are doin’.
First off…I’m finally done with school!! Like completely!! I should be getting my diploma in the mail within a month or two. I feel so relieved to finally be done. I definitely enjoyed my time there overall, but this past semester felt like nothing but busy work, haha. Just doin’ the same ol’ darn things I’ve been doin’ for the past 2 years. Was still worthwhile though, and like I said I’m stoked to finally be done.
Also…I switched to Linux! Specifically Mint Cinnamon. I’ve wanted to make the switch for ages, so I’m so happy I finally could now that I’m out of school. Was a bit of a pain getting everything working, but I think it was so worth it. Mint’s UI is so clean, and the amount of control I have over my system now is frankly bonkers.
Lastly…I went on vacation this past week! Went up to Wisconsin Dells with my family, and my sister’s boyfriend even came along with us! Bought him lunch and we got to know each other a lot more, which was really nice. Other than chillaxing in hot tubs and lazy rivers, I spent a lot of my time there watching Boomerang (as I don’t have cable TV). I always forget just how much I love Hanna-Barbera until I go back there. Although I will say that the hatred people hold towards Scrappy-Doo is very much warrented. That little mutt does nothing but cause problems for the gang, and it was honestly just irritating to watch. Love good old regular Scooby-Doo though, no matter from what time period.
Other than that, work is going okay still. Worked today and it was MEGA busy, but at least I feel accomplished after making all those drinks. I thankfully don’t have to work again till Tuesday, so I get just a little break.
We’re having a lovely bad air thing today. Smoke from Canada, I guess. Nephew set up a dinner date with us. I didn’t feel like going, so I bagged out. At that news, Mrs. Nott decided to bag out, too. The local station just started doing Tiny Desk Concert, which is going on now. Later, Interlochen Public Radio is doing a live broadcast of Lang Lang playing Rhapsody In Blue, starting in 2 minutes. I think I can get it over my phone, which means it’ll come through my hearing aids. It’s working!
Mrs. Nott just popped in the office to give me way too much info about her current purse business. As a prize to her August customers, she’s having a drawing for a very expensive Louis Vuitton purse, including a VT cross-body strap and VT box, together worth about $200. Yike!
Here’s another definition. Short for pinafore, it means an apron or woman’s dress that’s pinned over the regular dress.
Am I remembering correctly that cooking with a little baking soda softens beans?
–Here (too late for this batch, I think):
Practical Tips for Using Baking Soda in Bean Cooking
Quantity: A general rule of thumb is to add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda per cup of dried beans.
Timing: Add the baking soda directly to the soaking water or to the cooking water at the beginning of the cooking process.
Type of Beans: Baking soda works well with most types of beans, including kidney beans, pinto beans, black beans, and chickpeas.
Monitoring: Keep a close eye on the beans during cooking, adjusting the heat as needed. Test for doneness regularly by pressing a bean against the side of the pot.
Because I’d rather cut grass than have it die and turn to mud when it rains, which is the current scenario. Anyway, I’m entertained by the novelty of cutting grass, which I usually dig out immediately. However, my lovely wife wants grass in our postage stamp-sized back yard, so grass she shall have.
It was a busy day and I’m heading off to bed, but wanted to share a pic and story. BBB sent me a very cute basket that looks like Toto used to ride in it. Tonight I told Hubs that I wanted to fill it with fake flowers and put it on one of our cabinets to look purty.
Cheap plonk with the steaks, and I had a bourbon after.
The only place I can get Benedictine liqueur is in Bellingham, which is a little bit of a drive. So View Carré cocktails are a little inconvenient. OTOH, Costco is on the way home from Bevmo!, so I can get Woodinville rye.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of only 84 (BRRR!) and rain. We are under a flash flood watch all day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Chalice duty, followed by first Sunday brunch. The flowers at the Altar are given by Priest, other Verger and me in thanksgiving to Bob, our oldest acolyte, who is headed off to kolledge in a couple of weeks. Gonna miss Bob, but he will do great things I have no doubt. The rest of the day will be spent in RDOS inactivities as it will be a good day to be inside and dry.
BBBOO thanks for the advice. I will take my glasses case with me in case I need to take out my aids. What with the rain and all, I just may need to do so. I am curious as to how much I might notice today. One thing will be how loud the organ might be, as where I will sit today is really close to it.
JtC really! How dare you think of usin’ Jolene’s basket! Unthinkable!
red thanks for the link to Wally*World . I shall check those out.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, I must bake the casserole and commence purtification for deheathenization.
Up. caffeinated, and sheveled. On vacation today. I shall do morning cleaning, and afternoon sloth. And some day drinking. Because it’s not vacation withouth afternoon cocktails.
Or maybe you were looking for your Benedictine?
I used to have the same problem, but the 2 closest ABC stores really upped their game recently. They even have Malört now.
I’ll remember that for the next time, but I’m reluctant to put any into the already-made soup. I did boil it for another 20 min or so, then let it sit, but the beans are still firm. I found the bag in the trash (It was on top - I didn’t have to dig) and the use-by date is more than a year away, so they weren’t old beans. I dunno - it’s a mystery. We’ll still eat the soup, but it’ll remain a disappointment.
FCD neither knows nor cares about Jolene or her basket…
I had a pretty decent night without Mel’s help. Alas, tho, my poor sweetie didn’t. He’s a side sleeper, and that leads to coughing fits. He tried sleeping in his recliner, hoping that being on his back would help, but apparently not. I’d be more worried if he was running a fever. He has an appt with his doc on Weds - a followup from before our trip, so if this crap persists, I’m hoping she can convince him to take more specific action. He listens to her.
I’m thinking that mowage will occur today. I need to make a small grocery run, but that won’t happen till tomorrow. Weekends here are stoopit at most stores, but especially grocery establishments. So leaving home today is highly unlikely. Slothage shall reign!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/68f with a predicted high of 22c/72f and cloudy. Weather app says “Sometimes, stratus clouds are known as fucking “high fog”. I knew it! Fucking dope smokers.” Well, it’s definitely cloudy out there but there is a bit of blue sky to be seen.
We had the same issues with both Ophelia and Shadow as our cats aged. Both cases were down to thyroid issues, and easily treatable. I hope Bailey has something simple and treatable too. Also, enjoy the visit with WifeBFF, I hope she gets out of the horsepistol soon!
That sounds like an excellent way to spend an afternoon! I do like a good thunderstorm but we rarely get them here. Our weather forecasters promise them often, but never deliver.
doggio happy almost vacation!
Conga-rats!
How adorable! Jolene has definitely laid claim to that one.
We got home safely yesterday evening, I unpacked and then made sure the cats had food and clean litter trays. Had a nice lie-in this morning and then found that there was a nasty stain on the bedsheet that had gone through to the mattress. I’d already got a load of laundry in the washing machine so I took the sheet off and used some Vanish stain remover on the mattress. That looks ok now, just need it to dry out before I put fresh bedding on. And there will be a second load of laundry to do later.
I’ve been online and updated my accounts spreadsheet since I got paid while we were away. Paid my bills, including the catsitter, and shifted money from one place to another. That’s all the adulting done for the day! I have no other plans except foraging for lunch, tending to the needs of moggies and having some slothful time on the sofa. ‘im indoors has taken some chicken out of the freezer and plans to make Chinese chicken curry with egg-fried rice for dinner. I will write my list for the grocery shopping and get that done tomorrow lunchtime. Other than that, I have no plans for the rest of the day.
Ever so often, hubby and I discuss the theoretical possibility of having a pet. We always come to the conclusion that we’re too lazy. Warm puke is another reason to forego that idea.
About a decade ago we went on a Jeep tour out of Las Vegas. Having a guide helped us see the beauty of the area, especially as the scenery is so different from the lush greens we grew up with. Fortunately there’s something for everyone.
{{{{pilot}}}} So sorry.
Remind me not to skim. Cream cheese frosting and cabbage does not sound good and reminds me of an episode of Friends. (Rachel’s English trifle)
Dammit. Hope it’s not too bad and she recovers soon. Hope Bailey starts gaining some of her weight back.
Yesterday hubby’s band played at a birthday party of a relative. It poured all morning, which made doing the weekly shop a bit damp, especially I had to go to three different stores to find everything. We left home at 12:30 and got home at the stroke of midnight, so we didn’t turn into pumpkins.
In between we packed up the practice space, set up the equipment at the venue, packed it up again and dumped the equipment at the practice space. We did not get rained on, even though it rained while driving and while at the party.
This morning we both remembered we are not in our 20s. Oof.
