(Old) Getting back into your groove in the MMP

Second morning in a row that it’s been cool enough to open the windows…ahhhh.

Yesterday’s hospital visit with WifeBFF went well. She isn’t feverish or in pain or feeling sick, so despite the cirumstances we appreciated the quality time together. We both love HusbandBFF dearly, but usually he’s always around – because she needs the help – so it was good to have some “girl time.” I got there at lunchtime and stayed through dinner (HusbandBFF arrived at around 6pm and brought Chipotle for everyone), and was back home ~7pm. Her wound is still infected, but it’s getting better: they just need for the new antibiotics to kill the staph, and then they can get back to planning her discharge.

In a little while I’ll be heading to a Lego fan expo: I’m meeting a friend from work and her husband there. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the builds that people from around the country have designed themselves: I have zero creativity in that regard, so I’m always impressed! It’s a huge expo center and it’ll take several hours to see everything, but I won’t stay for very long: I need to go to the grocery store on the way home, and I’d like to be back a little earlier than I was yesterday. Work will be busy and slightly stressful this week, so I’ll need some “mental prep time” with Bailey/on my couch this evening.

Yay! Congratulations! :tada:

Any thoughts yet about what might be next? Different job, etc.?

Ha! :joy:

Good morning all. Pills take, morning banana consumed, NY Times acquired and my Blue Jeans are in the washing machine churning along, so it has been a fairly active morning already. Will head off to the Texas Roadhouse in a couple of hours and then we’ll see what the afternoon holds in store. A few drops of rain so far and looks like it’ll be on-and-off precipitating here for most of the day. Only 75F and not supposed to get to 80F so that’s a cooling trend I can live with.

And into scroll mode..

God Bod, yay! for finishing school. But I had to Google LinuxMint Cinnamon, I was wondering when a computer company got into the candy business… And glad you could get away with family and soon-to-be BIL.

Knots, if the Mrs. can offer a quality gift like that, her business must be doing well. And I always wondered where the term pinney came from…

Lily, happy grass cutting.

JtC, love the pic; and anything that a cat can curl up in is theirs by divine feline right…

FCM, glad it’s not more severe than just coughing, hopefully the Doc visit will do him good.

Boo fae, welcome home.

Dicey, sounds like you had a pretty full day of it. You really need to the into the RDOS vibe of this place…

Oopsie, Glad WifeBFF is doing well, hope she is released soon. Enjoy the expo.

And sounds like the laundry is in the rinse cycle so the jeans will be heading to the dryer shortly. Tae care and have a good Sunday all.

Good morning!

It’s 59°F and cloudy this morning. It’ll be mostly cloudy throughout the day, with a daytime high temperature of 74°F.

I hope Bailey has something easily treatable, Oopsie. I hope BFFWife is feeling better and is discharged soon.

Jolene looks adorable in that basket, JtC.

Happy vacation, Doggio!

Congrats, CorpusNeptune!

Glad you made it home safely and the adulting has been completed, BooFae.

We were supposed to meet my friend T and her boyfriend for drinks last night, but at the last minute, they asked if we could mind coming to their place instead. They don’t live all that far from us, so it wasn’t a big deal. I stopped at the store and bought T a bottle of wine and bought a veggie tray in case anyone wanted to nosh. T said we didn’t need to bring anything, but I never show up to a house empty-handed; it’s how I was raised, and it’s ingrained in me.

We had a great time and shared a lot of laughs. My husband invited M (T’s boyfriend) to come over today to check out his VR racing game and golf game. I kind of wish he hadn’t done that, as I was looking forward to getting caught up on some chores and starting to work on tearing up my front garden bed. Now, I need to “company” clean.

I also found out that the deputy position at my former place of work has become a political appointment, and a former employee who retired was appointed. The whole point of creating the deputy position as a regular civil service position was to create continuity between presidential administration changes. It used to be that people in my former position would be the acting state director (which I was off and on), but they then created these deputy positions.

Anyhow, when we found out who the SD was going to be, the now deputy visited the office and was sniffing around. He told me he and the SD had been in contact (they’re friends anyway), and alarm bells were going off. I warned everyone that this individual would be working at the office soon, but some people said I was being too suspicious. My gut is always right. What gets me is that the whole purpose of the deputy position is null and void. There is NO NEED for two political appointees at that level.

Bah, not my circus, not my monkeys, but I’m still being asked if I would consider returning. Not under this administration, thanks very much.

I suppose I should finish my coffee and get the day started. You all take care!

I can’t take credit for that link to the best of my recollection.

Congrats, godbod!

Welcome home, BooFae.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of clothes in the wash and fixing to do KP. I have some paperirk on slate for today in addition to packing. Other than that, no real need to leave the house.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I had the house open overnight and it’s still open. I don’t plan to close any windows till it gets hot in the house. Maybe it won’t? We shall see.

FCD is up, dressed, and fetching himself a diet coke from McD’s - he prefers their fountain sodas to cans or bottles. When he gets back, we’ll lunch, then head over to the boat - he wants to take some measurements. He said he doesn’t feel bad, despite the coughing, but he’s exhausted because he can’t get good sleep - because of the coughing. I do notice longer stretches between the cough-a-thons, so it appears to be passing. I’ve started coughing, but not nearly as much as he has. We shall see how it progresses.

Guess I should put my shoes on and think about lunch. Onward!!

Mornin’ all. About 10am as I start to drivel. Stayed out way too late, ate / drank too much, but at least I slept in a long time so I’m not exhausted today.

At more or less random I went to the workin’ class Mexican joint around here for dinner. I like the place because the owners are from SoCal and it totally reminds me of the Mom’n’Pop places of my youth. The menu, the appearance, the cooking, everything. I go there maybe twice a month and know the bartenders and a couple of the servers and they mostly recognize me in return.

Turns out I walked into a party. Or at least a nascent party. It’s ~6pm when I walk in. The main bartender was having her 50th birthday that day. So born in 1975. In addition to the usual Mexican restaurant garish décor, the place had been turned into a disco. All the free-standing tables & chairs were missing, leaving just a few booths along the walls. The rest of the space was to be a dance floor. The few tables had the usual elderly suspects having their early bird dinner and that was about it.

The birthday bartender is still pretty hot for a 50yo. Instead of her normal bluejeans, sneakers, t-shirt, & blond pony tail, today she’s wearing a sparkly gold stretchy mini skirt & matching bandeau top, bright gold fingernails, lotsa gold bangles, and her hair is Farrah Fawcetted. With cute tall gold wedge sandals too. Yowza. She’s married, but … Shortly her partner, the other 40-something still-hot bartender, shows up. In a pink & orange psychedelic print bellbottom jumpsuit with chunky white platform + heel gogo boots. Yowza yowza! Both girls had big oversized square-ish clear eyeglasses too. Very complete. The Muzak (Sirius XM I bet) is tuned to the disco channel.

The bar itself is small, just 8 stools, and about 10 seats of hightop. I’ve got one of the center stools; best seat in the house. Over the next hour the place utterly filled up with well-wishers, many of whom were also all disco’ed up. various customers bought the girls several rounds of tequilas and pretty quickly it was on. The 70s disco cover band started around 9pm and by then the place was solid humanity, gotta be 300 people; well over the legal capacity. Everybody is hootin’ and hollerin’ and dancin’ and jostlin’.

I finally left at midnight and judging from my tab versus my fuzzy recollection, they’d stopped ringing up the drinks way back around 8pm. In addition to a good tip on my card I got the birthday girl’s attention and handed her a very nice birthday present of presidential portraits.

Woke up at 9am, which is real rare for me.

Today is hot with a few puffy clouds. I’m thinking breakfast / brunch soon, then concentrated RDOSing.

As to y’all:

FCM: I too have occasionally made al dente bean soup for no apparent reason. Tres annoying. Last time I dumped about half the batch into a blender & spun the heck out of it to break up the beans. Made it better, but still not right. Good luck keeping FCD alive until he sees the doc on Wed.

And yes, JtC, that is an adorable kitteh picture. No fake flowers for that basket.

@CorpusNeptune : Hooray!!! Major life milestone checked off with flying colors. And a fun family visit; quite the haul this time.

Say it ain’t so, Joe! Good gawd, what has the world come to when Malört has escaped the 312?

I hate it when that happens.

Hooray for “girl time” and recovery progressing.

The Lego festival sounds like a great afternoon. It’ll be fun to hear your report on the amazing concoctions.

Yaay for that. Boo for excess cleaning today. May it be extra easy somehow.

Yeah, you dodged a lot of bullets getting out when you did. But for sure it hurts to watch something you cared a lot about get vandalized.

That’s enough driveling. Time to shevel and feed or something.

Cheers all!

Dear daughter has cancelled on us again, citing a migraine. One can never tell what the actual reason is with her; more likely a hangover than anything else. I love her, but she has been a compulsive liar her entire life. Anyway, we have a pot of soup to eat over the next couple of days.

Somewhat less smokey haze today, which is good. Perhaps I’ll take a walk since we’re not entertaining.

I reeeeeeally need to get up, eat something before work, take care of the ratties, and also I could use a shower.

But my bed is so comfy!

I’m so happy

Hubs folded up a little towel for her and she seems very comfy - the only difference between now and when that picture was taken is that she is pointing in a different direction.

I have a medical story to share: 9 years ago, my thyroid got lazy and I started taking medication for it. At the time, I was still seeing the doctor I’d been seeing for over twenty years. Of course she put me on the most common medication first and I instantly developed restless legs. I complained and we played around with different medications until they stopped for the most part.

She also told me that my sodium levels were low and blamed my blood pressure meds for that, and recommended I increase my salt intake.

The world ended and that doctor left private practice and finding a new one was not easy because they all kept leaving, so saw four different doctors between then and moving here. All of them scolded me over my sodium levels and were aware that I had issues with certain thyroid medications. The restless legs never really stopped, but it wasn’t that often.

We moved here and I found a doctor I liked. He started scolding me about my sodium levels as well and gave me pills for the restless legs. A few months ago, my feet and legs started cramping and I blamed my thyroid medication again and added potassium my morning drugs. I complained to my doctor about it again and he started questioning me about how much I drink and what and when.

Then he suggested I start drinking gatoraide for the electrolytes.

The restless legs are gone. The cramping is gone. I stopped taking the pills he gave me for the RLS and they didn’t come back.

I’ve slept better in the last weeks than I have for years and I’m sleeping less.

My flabber is honestly gasted over this!

Hooray for good news & improved sleep!

Had a good walk of about 16 blocks this morning. Cool weather with a bit of smoke haze. Took pictures of the fleurs for the wife. I think I’ll have pie for lunch.

I started keeping tabs on what we spend at the local grocery in a month and was shocked to see that last month it was over $800. For two people. We do buy things like chips for snacks, but cripes! This is a high-end grocery and we do appreciate the things they carry, so we will be unlikely to change our habits. The wife is a compulsive shopper, so I don’t take her with me much of the time. I’m pretty much an “if it ain’t on the list, it ain’t a-goin’ in the basket” type of person. A bag of groceries there is about $50, and if you buy meat or fish, all bets are off.

Envy….steak is great but the rolls are to die for! We have one here but I don’t enjoy going alone. Maybe when I road trip next door to Iowa to visit my sister, it’s her family’s favorite.

You’re sure got the right! Including half empty Kleenex boxes, a perennial favorite of my Moxie.

Wise.

We are on day four of that here but today it’s smelling smoky even inside the house. I guess your smoky air is continuing its southern slide down onto us now. I hope that means you’ll start getting a break soon. I’ve forgone a couple of activities that were outside these past few days, I just dash from the door to the car and I keep the car AC on recirculate.

That’s great! I’ve wrestled with bad leg cramps for a couple of years. My calcium, magnesium and potassium lab values show ok but the cramps persisted. Tried potassium first because thats usually the culprit but didn’t help. Finally through trial and error got on the right formulation of OTC magnesium (glycinate-I buy big bottles at Costco) and that knocks it down by 90%, which I can live with. And that 10% is helped by hydrating intentionally so I’m not waking up dehydrated with berserker cramps. The hydrating is a tricky dance, enough early enough in the day that I don’t have to get up and stumble around to pee during the night.

Have you tried Liquid IV? Little packets you pour into your water bottle and shake up? 3X the electrolytes of Gatorade and less weight and hassle to carry around with you. I use the sugar free version because I don’t need the sugar calories but I do need the electrolytes. Plus they have lots better flavors than Gatorade.

I always get it to-go. Place is noisy as hell, anyway.

I was all set to go to work, but only by having foregone some of my “need/should” tasks, because, well, comfy bed.

Turns out I clock in at 4, not 3. Bonus hour!! :parachute: Got the extras done, including a shower (I was just gonna do that after work … hell, I might still.)

Plus the household trash situation has been dealt with, and the biiiiiig is already at the curb so tired-ass Future Shoe does hafta deal with it.

I still have time for a dispo stop on my way in! Woooooot!

I cleaned, changed Spot’s litter, rollsucked the apartment, took out the trash and recycling, and filled the squirrel feeder. I changed the sheets and comforter with Spot’s help interference, and they are washing(the sheets, not the meddling feline). I think I shall have an afternoon Negroni while I watch the F1 race.

Congrats! Now you get to pretend to be an adult for the next 45 years.

There’s a conspiracy theory that they changed the recipe because it doesn’t tate awful enough anymore.

Yay!

[Hannibal Smith]I love it when a plan comes together[/Hannibal Smith]

Howdy Y’all! :musical_notes: It’s a rainy day in Jawja! :musical_notes: We deheathenated, honored Bob, and had a large and in charge first Sunday brunch. Nappage was very much needed. The rain slowed for a bit, so the biiiiiig trash can got hauled all the way down the road for pickup tomorrow. I think a cocktail is in order while sittin’ on the back porch and watchin’ the rain.

Die the cabbage casserole contains cream cheese, but the cream cheese frostin’ on the cake contains no cabbage. Hope this clears things up.

red the suggestion and link was from MetalMouse. I blame it on the caffeine not havin’ kicked in yet and a lack of readin’ for comprehension.

Oopsie glad your friend is feelin’ better. Hope she gets sprung soonest.

GodBod conga rats on graduation! Any big important future plans?

BooFae glad y’all made it home safe and sound.

Pilot glad you had a good time. Did you show off any of your mad disco skilz?

JtC glad you finally found a solution. I am not a fan of GatorAde, but if I were dealin’ with what you have dealt with, I could learn to tolerate the stuff.

I finished off the tofu about an hour ago. The Spousal Unit decided she wanted pizza ‘for dinner’. It’s just turned two, and she’s ordered it already. (She also ordered a chicken-Caesar salad for me.)

The rolls are the reason I don’t want to go there - I can eat half a dozen without breaking a sweat. I usually have some self control, but not there.

We went to the boat and worked out a good approach to installing the fuel tanks. We won’t be doing the work, but we’re going to build a couple of things to make it a bit easier and safer for the guys who are. We also paused to drool over the boat in the slip across from ours - gorgeous and for sale. FCD figures they’re probably asking at least $300K - needless to say, we won’t be buying. But it sure is purty!

The house has stayed open all day, but tomorrow is supposed to see mid 80s, so I may have to close windows in the afternoon. I got a reminder/ click-to-confirm email about my neurologist appointment on Tues. I’m hoping she’ll halve the dosage of my meds, but we shall see.

Since FCD is still feeling ick, I may actually do some yard work tomorrow. Maybe. TBD.

Don’t despair swampy! There’s gin bolstered with electrolytes now so you can keep on ditching the Gatorade and still replenish your potassium and magnesium🍹!

I saw Sunset Boulevard on the big screen this afternoon. Me and 5 other people. It’s such a great movie, and seeing it in the theater was pretty special. I noticed a lot more than when I watch it on TCM. And dang, William Holden was good looking. A small popcorn and small pop was $16! Good thing I go to the movies only once or twice a year.

Good! I was beginning to think that I had lost another marble.

Finished up the laundry room, got the paperirk done, dropped said paperirk and some cards in the mail with Nelson riding shotgun and let the Captain cook supper (2 piece batter dipped with broccoli). Now for chillage.
