Well, after one hour…
Hope more people wander by, not just for me but for the school. So far, nothing.

Hope business picks up for you (and the school), Moooom.
Pilot, looks like you’re havin’ a fine time. Enjoy!
I am officially leaving Arkansas on Tuesday, only 3 days earlier than scheduled. The company told me they’d try to find another project to fly me to, if I committed to an additional week. Four weeks is a long time to be away from home, but I reluctantly agreed for the sake of the bank account. However, apparently nobody needs an extra pair of hands, so home I shall go.
I’m not really mad about it, and I’ve made some decent money on this trip - but I need to be greedy right now. Hopefully they offer me another project soon; they keep claiming things are about to get very busy.
Meanwhile, it’s raining, and is supposed to keep doing so throughout the weekend, so I’m pretty much stuck in the hotel. The guy with the car wants to go hang out at a coffee shop up in town later this afternoon and I’ll probably join him just to do something. Then Netflix in my room until Game 2 of the World Series starts, I guess.
Happy Saturnday, everyone!
Well, hello there.
It’s currently 30F, clear, and sunny outside. The expected high is around 52F with abundant sunshine. I need to mow, but I’ll see how I feel.
Whew! You’ve all been chatty this week, and I’ve read all but probably didn’t retain as much as I should have.
FCM, I’m sorry about the family health woes. I’m glad, too, that you got to speak to your mother.
seanette, I’m sorry your temp job didn’t flip to permanent.
Nice work, VanGo!
Love the pics, pilot!
wheelz, I hope things pick up for you soon.
I returned from Missouri yesterday to very cool temps. I had neglected to turn on the heat in the house before we left, so the house was pretty cold inside. However, turning on the heat and the gas fireplace had things warmed up quickly, and all was fine.
We had a wonderful time visiting the kids and grandkids. Our hosts (my son-in-law’s stepmom and her husband) were warm, welcoming, and gracious. We had a great time hanging out with them, too. I drove a great big combine, which was much easier to handle than anticipated. The scariest part of driving it was knowing the cost of the equipment (well north of $500,000). My son-in-law had arranged to give us this opportunity through a friend growing soybeans on my son-in-law’s land. Anyway, it went well, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. By this time next year, soybeans won’t be on that field because the kids’ brand new house will be located behind that field, just in front of a pond and many big oaks. For those of you who are FB friends, I posted some pics and a video of me driving the combine and harvesting the soybeans.
We went to Jamesport, an Amish town, and stopped at several stores to pick up goods. We visited an amazing furniture store there. I fell in love with several dining and bedroom sets. All the furniture was handmade and solid wood. And, amazingly, even factoring in the cost of the shipping would be half the cost of so-called quality furniture at stores here. I am seriously considering buying a dining set and having it shipped here.
We explored other areas, but the week went by too quickly. I jokingly said, “Alright, we’re sold, we’ll move here because it’s so nice and quiet!”. My son-in-law very seriously said he would arrange to buy land from some neighbors. Although it would be nice to live near the grandkids and in such quiet, I love the PNW and can’t see myself living there. I really missed the evergreens and mountains too.
I didn’t sleep much this week, but given the two-hour time difference, I was shocked to still have my eyes pop wide open at 3:00 a.m. Missouri time EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. Today, straight at 2:55 a.m., the eyes popped open again.
It’s back to the usual weekend routine now that I’m home. I’ll probably knock out the laundry today and get that grass cut, too. I have a giant mushroom growing in my lawn, and the grass is way too tall. I couldn’t get it mowed before we left, so it’s had ample time to grow even taller than it was when we left.
Take care, everyone.
Three hours down and nary a sale. Dammit.
So I was over at the 200 slide today. It wasn’t too bad. The sorters on the 100 slide were throwing down the big boxes, even when those cages were mostly empty. Cecelia, the lady watching the 100 was a tad irked(i could hear the Spanish grumbling from 50 feet away). I got out at 10. I would have gotten out earlier, except I had to help Hazardous Ken with Hazmat. Midnight had him doing unload, instead of Hazmat, and TVCTPMO locked everyone in the building out of the computer in Hazmat. So we dragged everything over to 200 to deal with it(minus the leaking liquids, of course. So laundry is drying, and I’m gonna nap. Spot and Spam Callers willing.
Glad you had a good time, Taters.
Sorry the sale is sucking, Moooommmm!!!
Glad you’re having a good trip, Pilot(and staying out of Her Ladyship’s hair)
Two hours to go and the thin crowd is thinner.
Still no sales.
Apparently, people expect to be able to pay with plastic everywhere. I have had to explain that I’m not a business so cash only. So no sales. 90 minutes to go.
WOOHOO!!! Just sold a crab!!!
And I just sold the other crab!!
Gonna pack up in about half an hour.
So you sold both FCDad and SIL?
Venmo next time!
Home from the trip. No Internet at sea (unless you want to spend $300 for the week), and SWMBO nixed any watching of news on the TV. (Instead we had to watch the same four movies, because the ship didn’t have real TV.) So I’ve been in a news blackout for the past week.
I saw flags at half-staff today. Who died?
There may not be a next time…
I’m starting to pack up, as are many others. Beautiful weather but too many other things going on in town. Oh well.
Many of the plants in my garden are nostalgia plants and the snapdragons fall into that category so of course I play with them
JtC, hope he at least got the disposal going (in a manly sort of way).
Oh, he said many manly words while learning that the reset button wasn’t on the bottom, but on the side.
coach the U12’s with a technicolor beard.
You know they all will be paying a lot of attention to you today!
Apparently, people expect to be able to pay with plastic everywhere.
Panhandlers in town accept plastic and have their Venmo account numbers on their “Will work for food” signs, so I guess it’s a fairly reasonable expectation. OTOH, we always bring ones and fives when we go to craft shows because it is just so much easier.
I’m sorry you didn’t sell more of your amazing creations. Draco is holding up very well to being thrown off the bed a dozen times a day so I know you make durable stuff.

There was another nut with a gun. Active Shooter incident in Lewiston, Maine 10/25/2023 (found dead, presumed suicide) - #161 by TeroSunbear
I have words.
Home. Exhausted. Reclining.
I brought in a whopping $20 at the fundraiser, plus $50 from presales. And Daughter took one of the turtles for Tobias.
I’ve had a yogurt and in a bit, I will forage for supper. Maybe a mushroom omelet? Somebody wanna run over here and make me an omelet? Pretty please?
So we went on a week-long cruis, and all we brought back was this stupid COVID.
Who knew packing like sardines into elevators with a bunch of strangers might result in exposure?
It felt like I was catching a cold Thursday afternoon. It felt like I had a cold Friday. Symptoms started tapering off Friday afternoon. Feeling better today. My nose is still stuffy, but not as bad as it was; and I’m barely coughing.

Happy Saturday evening, all!
My 10am personal training session was good, but while I was at the grocery store afterwards I saw that one of my fellow volunteer committee chairs had sent me an email about her early voting event tomorrow (from 1pm-5pm): “Hey, are you planning to go? Normally I have a membership table set up.” I was already planning to go, but just as myself (vs as the Membership Committee chair); I also wasn’t planning to stay more than an hour, because some friends are singing at 5pm tomorrow and I’d been toying with going to their show. So I was mildly annoyed that she hadn’t mentioned anything sooner, but the big issue was that on Thursday I’d loaned the Rubbermaid container with all of the branch’s event stuff to another committee chair…who leaves tomorrow for two weeks in India. (We’d agreed that I’d contact her about getting the container back sometime after Thanksgiving. Since, you know, there were no membership events planned for the rest of the year. )
When I got home from the store, I texted the woman with the container to see if I could possibly pick it up today. I would have been perfectly fine with telling the other committee chair “no,” and frankly I nearly did, but ultimately I decided to try. I also decided that I’m OK with skipping my friends’ show, which I’d been seriously on the fence about anyway. Luckily the woman with the container was home and said I could come by any time, so after I took Bailey out and put the groceries away I ate a banana (having had nothing but a protein shake before I went to the gym) and grabbed a protein bar and some Gatorade for the road. I had to stop for gas, and the woman lives 25 minutes away, so all told I was out for another hour. But, I was able to tell the other committee chair that I can support her event.
So, I’ll be getting some unplanned exercise tomorrow and it’ll be a longer day than expected. Should be alright, though. It’s supposed to be 75°F, and cloudy-but-dry: I’m counting on those last bits, because I won’t be bringing our tent. I’ll need to bring the 6’ folding table (and two chairs) in addition to the Rubbermaid container, which will be enough. I’m glad that I don’t have to leave the house until noon: I can sleep in, putz around a little in the morning, and still have plenty of time to put the table and chairs (and my lunch) in the car.
I got home from picking up the container right around 1:30pm: I took Bailey out again, made some popcorn, and started watching TV. I got through this week’s episodes of The Voice (with liberal use of the fast-forward button), the series premiere of Everyone Else Burns, and last night’s Shark Tank, but a few minutes into a documentary on Max Roach I nodded off. Upon waking I felt the need to get off the couch for a while, so I wandered down the hall into the home office…and, here I am.
After this post I’ll likely return to the living room, but I’ll do some reading before diving back into televised entertainment. Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling) recently released the next book in a series that I really enjoy; it’s been a while since I’ve been excited about reading something.
When it’s TV time, though, I’m looking forward to watching more Bodies on Netlifx: London police in 1890, 1941, 2023, and 2053 find the same dead body. It’s an 8-episode season; I have three left. Time travel isn’t really my thing (nor are period pieces) and I only gave it a try out of pure curiosity/boredom, but it’s more watchable and compelling than I expected.
Here’s a pic I took from our table . They told us the volcano at the center distance is usually fully shrouded in cloud. It looked better a few minutes previously, but by the time I realized I needed to snap the pic now it was almost too late. That volcano is about 20 miles away.
Oh wow, great photo! The clouds, mountains, and volcano almost look like a painting!
I have a giant mushroom growing in my lawn
I get a few mushrooms in the back yard most years, around late summer/early fall. When I first moved here I was worried about Bailey trying to eat them, but luckily she’s never been interested. This year’s were bright orange.
So we went on a week-long cruis, and all we brought back was this stupid COVID.
Oh no! Yuck.

Thanks for this tip~Not having a tv or cable, I’m always looking to make the most of the streaming I have in Netflix. I’ll give this a look. Like you, off hand I wouldn’t be looking for time travel either but Outlander (a tip from my sister, who started me out by sending the glorious tomes of Diana Gabaldon to me) is well neigh an addiction for me, so maybe I’ll get lucky twice. I’m already primed to like Bodies because it’s British crime fiction. If you haven’t tried Outlander, consider giving it a look-see. Seasons 1-5 are on Netflix, Seasons 1-7 are on Starz.
Not that anyone has to care but I’m in Go Big
Red football listening mode. We are up 24-6, 4th quarter. Later I’ll look at highlights on line for the ‘watching’ part.
Eating air fryer personal pizza from Costco. Earlier today I went downtown to substitute teach a literacy class for a fellow tutor called out of town. As always very enjoyable volunteer work. I love saying “English is a mighty funny language”.
I took a trip up the lake to drop off more stuff at the gift shop. Suffered inspiration and went over to the museum where I’m hoping to build a boat. I came up with two other locations in their space to put it, hopefully the board will like at least one of them. The director is fairly confident.
Then back down the lake, where I got the leaves mowed into mulch. My front yard no longer looks like Boo Radley’s. I don’t expect too many trick-or-treaters, but I figured not making them walk through shin deep leaves would be a nice gesture on my part.
I’m looking forward to watching more Bodies on Netlifx
I’mma have to check that out. It’s right up my alley. Although I do have a large back log of stuff I haven’t finished. Dunno if’n I want to start a new one.
Off to make the chicken gravy to smother biscuits. Yup, I’m putting frozen peas in it.
Stay safe, y’all.
Howdy Y’all! Been a very slothful day as predicted. Nappage, day drinkin’ and tackleball were achieved. We had burgers 'n fixin’s with fries for sup. My Dawgs chowed down on some Flahrduh gator. WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! OYKW told me that if I woofed again today he’d go buy me a bag of dawg chow. So I woofed. Haven’t seen any dawg chow yet.
MOOOOOON sorry the sale was not what you had hoped.
Oopsie you are a good person (well, we already know that) for bein’ so willin’ to help tomorrow.
Boo yay for your Huskers gettin’ it done against Purdue. My niece who is a Purdue gra-joo-ate, would not appreciate me sayin’ that, so it’ll be our little secret.
