(Old) Happy National Shrimp Scampi Day in the MMP!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out with light rain with a predicted high of 84 with rain all day. We shall see. No biggie plans for the day, except we might or might not go grab a burger and a beer for N.O.L. or not. If not, it will be a day to forage when the need to feed hits. The usual sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage and day drinkin’ are on the schedule, of course.

**Sticky_Buns hope Annie feels better today.

Red hope Nelson is back to his usual self today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Morning all. Set my alarm for 6:20am so of course I was up a half-hour before then. Looks like it rained some more last night so I am 95% sure soccer will be cancelled today (of course, the Parks Department takes absolute delight in confounding me, so I’ll wait for the official decision to be posted). Will break fast right after this, then see how the day goes.

Read my lab reports from my Exam, only number really out of line indicates I might have hyperthyroidism, so guess I’ll ask the Doc about that when I see him on the 13th.

boo fae, hope you are enjoying (or about to enjoy) the music.

FCM, I coached my first girls team here in N. Ali-bama in 1997, so that’s not all that impossible… Hope your feet warm up.

And still nothing posted on the Park site, so will fix me some breakfast and wait. Have a good weekend all.

Morning everyone ! Almost time to wrap up things for today. I skimmed lots of the posts, but got caught up with @LSLGuy Pilot’s story. I hope all goes well.

We have a long holiday so yesterday I finally put together the scond of the two bicycles we brought from Taiwan. Japan requires bikes to be registered in case they are stolen. Anything done in Japan is lots and lots of red tape, so I was anticipating a major headache trying to register something from overseas, but the guy at the bike shops was really nice about it and it was done in minutes.

SenKids are being typical adolescents. At times SenGirl gets annoyed simply being in the same room as SenBoy. Loads of fun.

One of my friends is trading in her minivan, same make as mine. She had a cargo carrier so she gave it to me. It’s white and my minivan is silver, but I like the price.

He seems to have slept it off. He greeted the standard poodle girls next door with face kisses, tail wags and booty sniffs when we went out, so I think it was just soreness from the injections.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. The only things on the slate today are going to Lowe’s for plants (and planting them), meeting for a MarketPlace buy this afternoon and fueling up the car. I hope that it isn’t raining too much until the gardening is done.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The lime zest piqued my interest in this recipe. Orange zest is the secret to my killer French toast.

A rainy morning, but we got all our errands done yesterday, so it’s all good. Went out yesterday and got tomato starters and a whole bunch of herbs. The herbs are for the communal planter box on the terrace. The kitchen also uses them. We’ll keep the tomatoes in the apartment until end of May when temps have stabilized. After the morning’s exercise and wandering around the huge gardening center and then around the grocery to restock things, we were both suffering hip pain, so took it easy the rest of the day.

Wordle was nearly a bust, and the NYT crossword was impossible, so today’s entertainment has not been satisfactory so far. In addition, we’ve been informed that Xfinity will no longer be able to include Bally North in their lineup (Bally will now be a separate subscription), so that’s the end of watching most of Minnesota’s NBA, MLB and other pro games. Luckily, I’m not a sports fanatic, so I can do without it.

Cheese omelette sandwiches with back bacon have been consumed. Getting ready to go down to Seattle to see a lighthouse.

I know the feeling. Monday’s is easy, Wednesday I can usually solve, and Friday I almost never get. Sunday’s I have pretty good success with, although I work on it over 3-4 days on and off…

No soccer so just slothing right now, it is a nice day right at the moment but the fields were pretty soaked (rode past them). Thinking about having Sunday Dinner on Saturday at the Golden Corral, so may do some exercising first and then drive over there for an early dinner. At least that’s the plan at the moment.

Sensei, sounds like a nice freebie, and teenagers will teenage, no matter the country/culture.

Back to browsing the internet.

I can usually finish them on all days, but sometimes it takes most of a day because I have to reboot my brain by taking breaks. But the last few weeks have had fairly difficult Fri-Sat puzzles, and today’s was just a blowout.

Whew!

So far today, I cut up the slab of ribs and added rub, mowed one ditch, (but it started raining while I was at it, so the other ditch must wait,) then I got out the smoker, rolled up the two rugs that needed to be swapped (including moving some furniture), helped FCD carry the rugs down and up (via the back yard, because stairs are difficult for him, then I put the living room furniture back in place, put the ribs in the smoker, started a fire in the basement to help the rug dry, and gave that rug a good cleaning. The water it sucked back up was black! that was a pretty dirty rug…

Still need to clean the critter fountain, and I’ve about given up trying to keep MIL from walking around. She got up, came out to her recliner, had toast and chocolate, then fell asleep for another hour and something. I had to jump up to get her lunch, or she’d have tried to do it herself - not smart for one who is unsteady and too short to reach many things. But she did get up and take her lunch dishes to the sink, dammit. I swear, it’s worse than dealing with a child. I know she misses her independence, but going into the room with the most hard surfaces and no chairs is a very bad idea for one such as her. I don’t know…

FCD has gone to the boat to clean up some clutter, and on the way back, he’s going to stop at the deli for slaw and baked beans to go with our ribs. So supper is taken care of. I think I’m going to plop in the recliner for a bit before attacking the fountain.

They never showed up. BIG MAD, as the kids would say.

So I sat around with my thumb up my ass all afternoon and went in late to work, for nuthin’.

Plus, Oven Master won’t be on the roster at all after this weekend. He did appear yesterday, and I was so happy he was back … only to find out, he really isn’t.
I don’t know why, and I didn’t ask.

Gave him a goodbye hug, and told him I’d miss working with him.
He told me I was actually an interesting person, and that he’d miss me, too.

(Me: “… actually?!?”)

So basically, yesterday started and ended with men disappointing me.

Monkey luuuurves G.C. and thinks he comes over to visit him.
He knows the sound of his car, too - my driveway is a frequent turnaround place (and very occasionally, arrest zone) so the fact that he pinpoints that particular engine - and shutoff beep - is cute.

And also, a useful heads up. { smooths hair }

Me, too.

Everyone in the MMP say, “Hi, Coolio!

(Coolio is the name of my window unit A/C. I name things that are important to me, and anything that provides relief from heat and/or humidity is a valued member of my household.)

I was like, “This is an odd time of year to be making Christmas shit,” and then I remembered some people plan ahead.

In my case … that’s what socks are for.

Last autumn I only shut my bedroom window all the way during the big Halloween snowstorm. (Folks around here still mention it.)

That gave me a chuckle.

That’s the funniest shit I’ve read in a while. Thank you for sharing a really great memory.

“… needs salt.” Heh.

I know exactly what you mean.

I wonder if Ze Germans have a word for it?

Talk to the hospice folks. They’ll have suggestions, practical advice, or at least give her a good talkin’ to.

Alright, I need to figure out what feels edible & get dressed for another round at work.

I need joy in my life. I’m thinking a Happy Meal may be the right thing.
… oooooooooh, and a chocolate shake!

It is a cold wet weekend. This is why I don’t trust the weather to fully warm up until after Memorial Day proper.

This could put a damper on the paschal festivities.

It has sprinkled on and off all day here too. A number of folks where I work took Thursday off (and I’m guessing quite a few who work weekends took their vacations this weekend) for Easter (we have quite a few Egyptions and Ethiopians where I work).

Picked up my MarketPlace buy down the street, dropped bills off at the post office, then purchased and potted the herbs and some ivy this afternoon. Go me!

On the Nelson front, he was actually nice to Bella, one of the new neighbor dogs this afternoon. I think he’s finally figured out that she’s here to stay. :stuck_out_tongue:

Now for chillage in the studio.

I thought those were two criteria for the same thing!

Indeed, go you!

I have done hardly anything today. I am blaming it mostly on the meds change. I ate some pancakes that MusicMan made and got very sick and loopy after that and took a nap. Then, I got up for a couple hours and went back to bed again. Now I’m up and got way too much sloppy joes that were leftover and have managed a couple bites. Ugh.

Ok, my mom is ready to work on the urn. I’d better go.

Me: "I’m on the 100 and 200 Slides all day, I shouldn’t be here long…
Nine hours later
Me: “Oy.”
A whole bunch of missorts to redo, wrecked boxes everywhere. Dollar Tree is apparently putting in a new store, and they were shipping 12 candy shelf racks. Individually. Wrapped in 1 layer of Saran wrap class plastic. and 4 of them lost their plastic. Which meant finding the shipment, figuring out which tracking labels were missing, and reprinting them. Plus a box of [Joan Crawford]WIRE HANGERS[/Joan Crawford] broke open. And rather than put them in tote like any person with an IQ larger than Spot’s shoe size, they shove it into a Smalls bag. Which meant Hazardous Ken and I spend 30 minutes untangling [Joan Crawford]WIRE HANGERS[/Joan Crawford] so we could rebox them.
I stopped at Bojangles on the way home for lunch. When I got home, showered, started laundry. My water glass failed. I put in ice, and when I poured in the water, a chunk of glass broke off. Which is not completely surprising, considering I bought that glass in the late 20th Century. I napped. I made a Mint Julip. The fucking cat stole my mint sprig. It’s been a day. Time for more drinking.

Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart were doing the Derby today, so you weren’t the only one doing some smoking. :shamrock:

Hi Coolio!

Hope you feel better, Sticky.

And a good early evening to all. The gym closes at 6pm on weekends, so I made it there fairly early and spend nearly 2 hours pedaling, then changed clothes and had my Sunday dinner on Saturday at the Golden Corral. Got there before 4pm so got the Senior citizens lunch price, so packed away salad, soup, pot roast&rice w/gravy, 3 chocolate chip cookies, a small slice of pecan pie, a brownie and about 4 glasses of Coke. All for a shade over $16. Good thing it’s a 40 minute drive from my place or my efforts to lose weight would be hopeless. Home now on a very nice day, it always seems to happen that when they cancel soccer due to the wet fields from the night before, it’s bright and shiny (and hot-84F) outside for that day. Not much planned except digesting my meal and doing slothful things.

FCM, may have to look for one of those rug cleaners. And MIL just wants to feel that she can still do something useful, feeling useless is hard to deal with. IMHO.

shoe, hopefully the men in your life (outside of us fellows in the MMP) will not keep disappointing you.

Haven’t turned the AC on quite yet, but the overhead fan is spinning and keep things relatively cool.

Oh, two other things of note; I actually used the cash-back option on my debit card, and the stickers I ordered for my girl soccer players arrived, 50 each for each girl, they will be delighted, not so sure their parents will be…

Onward into the evening. If I don;t get back, will check with y’all on Sunday.

At least it broke before you added any booze.

Feel better soonest sticky buns!

I helped MIL shower using the loaner bench - it was great! Well as great as washing a 92-y/o can be. It was stable and I was able to arrange the shower curtain to keep the floor dry. Plus I found the place that sells the shampoo MIL likes, so yay for that.

And it’s been a long, busy day. I need my bed… zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Today I tackled a big job on my balcony and solved a mystery at the same time. You probably don’t recall Norman Bates, the psycho squirrel. He decided the dirt in the big planter holding the world’s largest geranium was the perfect burial place for his treasures. I got prickle strips and covered the pot. For weeks afterward, Norman sat on a tree limb and screeched at me for 30 minutes at a time. It was very annoying. He suddenly disappeared. I like to think the other forest creatures cheerfully beat the living snot out of him.

So today I decided to empty the humongous pot of dirt. (The geranium died in a below-zero cold snap we had while I was away.) I was filling up the second bucket when I found a peanut shell with peanuts still inside. So that was what Norman was screeching about. Still psycho, though, as the guy upstairs threw peanuts down there every night. Norman just couldn’t let it go.

I think someone was smoking something besides ribs.

FCM, that’s so nice about the free bench and the wonderful services hospice provides. You know, when Mom passed, the hospice nurse was helpful to us, too. He didn’t have to o stay while we waited for transport to take Mom’s body to the medical school, but he did, and he was very comforting.

red, so glad Nelson is back to his debonair self.

That sounds wonderful! Do you just toss it in with the eggs and milk, or do you soak it in the milk for a bit?

Which one? I love lighthouses. (Who doesn’t?

You’re better than I. I don’t even try to do the weekend puzzles because they make me feel stupid. Then Monday rolls around, I do the puzzle in 12 minutes, and I feel smart again, for a few minutes, anyway.

WHAT?! I’m outraged.

Doggio, I saw a recipe for a B-52 cocktail today. Have you ever had one?

I waved my cane in the air when I read it! How could he?!?!

I do remember Norman Bates, your stories about him made me laugh so much!

Agreed!

What do little girls like these days? That is a serious question, I am really out of touch with what is in for the littles anymore.

I’m glad you enjoyed. It is one of my favs about him  At the time I considered telling him, but it might have embarrassed him plus, it was human grade turkey, water and taurine and probably better for him than potted meat. Probably more expensive than what Mom bought at the grocery store as well.

This is the man who liked to whoop it up at the Spamarama’s after I took him to one. They featured Spam as food (many, MANY different spam dishes), Spam as art (yes, people do carve Spam or make things out of slice of Spam) and Spam as history.

Those sound lovely, I really do hope you enjoy them. If you need any tips, you know that I’m always happy to speechify!

Especially about doing plaids. The instructions look sooo very complicated, but they are seriously so easy to do that I started laughing when my four color plaid started looking plaidish.

This is my go-to place for supplies: https://familyartsneedlework.com/

They seriously have the best stuff and all of the fibers you will need. If they don’t have them when you call (I always call but I think you can order online) they will order them for you. They ship very promptly, usually within a day. I have never once had a single issue with them, they kept Mom and I both sane during the Bad Times.

West Point Lighthouse in Discovery Park. It was boarded up, but we went out to it and took some pictures. Funny thing: There was a parcel by the door with a 4/25 date on it. We debated whether to take it back to the Visitors Center, or to leave it and tell them about it. We elected to leave it and tell them about it. I inadvertently captured it in one of the photos. I got my lighthouse passport stamped.

Then we went to 5 Points Café for lunch, and then down to Northwest Seaport to see LV-85 U.S. Lighship Swiftsure (LV-85) that served from 1904-1960. It was covered up, so we couldn’t see much. But I did get the stamp in my lighthouse passport.

Neither place had a medallion for my hiking stick.

In other news…

I lost my wedding ring. I noticed it was gone when I was getting dressed for our excursion. I don’t think I lost it on my walk Thursday. I don’t think it slipped off at dinner last night, but I called the Speakeasy. It’s probably somewhere around the house, but I’ve looked everywhere it might be. It was $399 in 2017. Now it’s $537 if I need to replace it.
