No reason not to follow up on this, since you don’t mention any agreement between you and GC to exclusivity. Worst case, a new friend, and who can’t do with more of those?
Thanks. I’m sure that a number of people I work with would say that I resemble that remark.
Thanks shoe, dicey, nellie, yes it definitely is a relief.
lilacs are one of my favorites (besides azaeleas). We have 2 varieties in the yard, generic lavender and French white.
Couldn’t stay up until our daughter got home last night; I straggled up to bed about 11:40. Awoke about 6:30ish, sheveled, gave Bella breakfast (flavorless bits although I think they have duck in them), cleaned off the dining room table of a lot of papers that had accumulated several weeks ago so daughter would have a place to WFH, gave Bella about 5 minutes of rubs then off to the office. Had a lot to do so worked 4-3/4 hrs; didn’t even finish everything but I needed to get home to check on things so I brought stuff home that I will work on probably Sunday since daughter is taking the late train back Saturday night. Took Bella for a walk, made lunch for daughter and Hubs and self, then have been slothing when I should have been doing stuff but sometimes I just need a break.
Afternoon all. The shopping for May has been completed and my Debit Card got a bit of a workout, but the refrigerator is re-stocked and ready for the month ahead. And added about 600 points (4X day) on my Kroger Card, which portends well for the next gas fill-up. Since then it’s been mostly sloth, I’m waiting to see if the soccer fields will be open or not (they post the status about 4pm) and depending on that I may get my swimming in late afternoon/early evening. Right now I’m going to enter my checkbook ledger into my spreadsheet for the last couple of months to check/compare my costs. Not exciting, but I’m a sucker for Excel.
I haven’t worn anything to bed since 1986…(I know, TMI).
red, have spilled the occasional liquid on my keyboard, sounds like you’ve cleaned it well but in my experience, it will never be quite right. Kudos on having a backup.
Sticky Buns, best wishes for Annie.
shoe, ‘hey, it’s just coffee.’ (famous last words… ). And since he was mentioned, how does Monkey react to G.C. when he visits to help you…relax?
Aaannndd the soccer fields are closed today, so I’ll drop a message to my parents and get my swimmin’ stuff packed up. Talk to y’all tonight.
The a/c got turned on today. It’s sunny and in the upper 70s here in no. Illinois, Tomorrow is predicted to be 82. I went back to the gym today and did a 20 minutes beginner’s workout and it kicked my butt. And I’m still sore from my tumble off Ariel. Yep, my glutes are killing me.
JtC and shoe, I bought 2 needlepoint canvases on my recent trip. I’ve been wanting to get into it but there is nothing in my area. One canvas is a plaid reindeer and the other is a Gucci inspired ornament with a stirrup on a green and red background,
We’re writing to you now from the comfort of the couch. I have to say that I really love our group of veterinarians. Our usual vet was out, but the one we got today super nice as well. She said that it looked like Annie was having a focal seizure. Since Annie was a puppy mill breeder and had a life filled with anxiety before she came to us, she thought that treating her anxiety and stress would be our first line of defense. Therefore, we’re now giving her trazadone daily. I honestly think that the amount she prescribed is going to make her a zombie dog, but I can always adjust it down if necessary.
MetalMouse, that was some serious TMI there, ya know? I mean, practically speaking, what about when it’s really cold outside??
Ok, I’m trying to decide between short nap or dinner. I’d really like to keep working and just eat while I work, but I had so little sleep last night, I’m not sure what I want to do.
I use them for coffee on the go, but here at home, I still like china mugs. I did wind up breaking out the backup keyboard though, when I found that the backspace was also affected. Now to order another one from da Jungle. (Can you tell that this has happened before?)
Nelson weighed in at 18.6# today, down .4# from last year. He was deemed in good health by the vet, got his shots and took a crap on the floor by the receptionist desk while I was paying (he gets this honestly. His grandmother, my folks’ dog, used to do that and Dad would always joke that she must be of a political persuasion that craps all over health care.)
Now to make the order from da Jungle and then sloth.
I get koritza the tiki cat. Those cans look good enough for humans. Just add mayo to the chicken or tuna cans.
I got 2 of the 3 pairs of glasses today, as well as the pascal haircut. Adding in the turquoise reef tonight. Very short. 1.5 inches to .5 inches. Feels velvety.
Our cats used to get Wellness. Dad liked to eat potted meat. One time he came to visit without enough warning for me to get time off from work, so he was on his own for lunch. When I got home, I asked him what he had for lunch so I’d know what to not make for dinner. He said he made a potted meat samwich. This confused me because I hadn’t had time to shop for him, so I looked in the trash and saw an empty can of Wellness Turkey.
When I asked what he thought about it, he said it needed salt.
I kept that secret until after his memorial service.
I have been keeping up with everyone and feel badly that I haven’t been responding to folks, but my room is packed and the walls are bare and I don’t like it in here anymore.
There’s a group in this county called ACTS - A Community That Shares - founded in 1993. It’s staffed by volunteers and they have a warehouse full of donated home medical devices and equipment - from canes to hospital beds.
First thing this morning, MIL was visited by a Hospice nurse - this will happen once a week. Then shortly after lunch, the home aide showed up as she will twice a week to help MIL shower. But for some reason, MIL decided she didn’t want a shower today. However, I took advantage of the visit to show the aide the bathroom and talk to her about the shower bench we were supposed to get.
She made a call and it turns out there was no shower bench in stock and they didn’t know how long before they’d get one. BUT she mentioned ACTS to me. I called them and after she left, I drove to the warehouse, passing it 3 times because, well, if you saw that part of the county, you’d understand. I’d never been anywhere around there before, and I had to restart google maps twice to get me there.
The nice man brought out the bench, showed me how the seat back would be switched depending upon the tub orientation, and put my information in their system. The bench is ours for 4 months, and if we need it longer, we just tell them we need 4 more months. And it’s free. As in no charge at all. Wow!
I set it in place and MIL was able to sit on it, swing her legs into the tub, and scoot over with no problems. It’s perfect! I’ll give it a scrub just because it’s been in the warehouse at least for a little while, and she’ll be good to go when the aide comes back. Huzzah!!
Oh, and when I got back with the bench, a social worker was sitting with MIL. I hadn’t known she was coming - someone forgot to tell me she’d called. So today started with Mike the nurse, then Jessica the aide, and wrapped with Natosha (yes, that’s how she spells it) the social worker. Plus we got a FedEx delivery of some meds to keep on hand just in case. The Hospice organization in this county is amazing!!
And that was my day. I got most of the laundry done and none of the yard work. I did get to Food Lion. If it doesn’t rain overnight, I’ll start tomorrow by mowing the ditch. We’ll see what morning brings.
I napped. Spot groomed my head. Having a blood orange Margarita, and fish tacos(with peppers, onions and jalapenos, not milk and raisins). Laundry is put away, and I switched out the long sleeve shirts in my closet for my Hawaiian shirt collection.
Fiesta, Y’all!
In the dry, flavorless bits, not the tacos. But Ancho chilies taste like spicy raisins, it would work.
So say we all.
I’m not grumpy, I just look that way. unless we’re out of gin. Or I miss Matlock. then the wheels fall off.
I think Nelson’s is a little sore from his shots this afternoon. He hasn’t been as physically active as usual and is pretty clingy. Right now, I’m in bed on tablet and he’s in my left arm across my chest, poor baby. He was pretty much a lap puppy this evening.
That’s why I have an extra-thick comforter for the cool months. And glad Annie is getting the medical treatment she needs; I know she gets the love she needs from you.
I do have PJ bottoms for around the house wear, but for some reason back when I was in my 30’s I decided one night to sleep in my birthday suit and it just became a habit.
red, glad Nelson is doing well, and even provided evidence to the Vet that his bowels are in perfect working order…
FCM, I am happy your area has a system in-place to support folks nearing the end of their life; I just hope my area has something like it when I finally get old…
Finally got my swimming in, heading off to bed shortly since if they decide to do soccer tomorrow despite all the rain today, I need to be ready to go by 7:15am, so that means early to rise. If it’s cancelled then I’ll have an early posting to the MMP, I guess. Rain has definitely cooled things down, it’s 69F heading to 65F.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/49f with a predicted high of 14c/58f and cloudy. Weather app says “Is this fedora weather? Nope, it’s never fucking fedora weather.” I don’t have a fedora, so definitely not fedora weather for me.
Moooom sounds like your local hospice services are really well organised! I remember when mum came home from hospital, they organised four weeks of daily nurse visits so someone could help her shower and dress, and get her tablets. She’d broken her hip and wrist (both left side) so the basics were difficult for her. They also provided a wheeled tray table, shower seat, raised terlit seat, and a slightly higher padded bench seat for her kitchen, all through the Red Cross at no charge.
Red glad to hear Nelson is doing ok, I’m sure he appreciated his lap time and cuddles after his shots.
JtC I’m sorry about your friend’s attitude, she must be really feeling the impact of your impending move, and I can understand sadness but not the anger that comes with it. I hope she gets over it before you move, and you can leave on good terms.

I am up early for a weekend day, no gym for me though. We’re off to a day-long music festival in Bradford which is about 2hrs drive from here. The first band’s on at 1pm so we reckon we need to hit the road by 10am (I need to get petrol on the way to the dreaded M6) to allow for the inevitable delays on the motorway. We’ll get to see at least three bands before we have to go and check into our accommodation, then a quick change of clothes and we’ll be out again for the rest.
The cats have been tended to, I just need to put out an extra water bowl and make sure all the biscuit bowls are topped up to the brim as we are staying out all night and won’t be home until tomorrow lunchtime.
I had a sudden, somewhat amusing image of your littler soccer girls as nurses in your dotage. I’m sure they’d take good care of you!
Strange night of strange dreams, tho I don’t remember any of them. I just woke with the feeling of having been thru something unusual. And speaking of socks, I had to put some on last night - my feet were like ice! It didn’t get all that cold - 53° this morning and still over 70° in the house, but I was cold when I went to bed. Weird…
Today is clean-the-critter-fountain day again. And I have yet to launder MIL’s bedding (they’re actually our sheets - her sheets are on the bed now.) I told FCD I want to do the area rug swap today - that won’t take long, but it will require moving all 3 recliners and a couple of small tables. Once the upstairs rug is downstairs, I’ll run the carpet cleaner over it.
It’s overcast and dreary outside, and depending on which weather site you choose to believe, we could be in for a week of rain. The weather channel radar shows rain moving in after 11 or so, which would give me time to mow the ditches at least - we’ll see as the morning progresses. It’s still too early to fire up anything too noisy. But bottom line - it’s pretty much an indoor day.
I want to smoke a rack of ribs - I need to move the smoker under the front porch roof, which requires that I move FCD’s car out of the way. But it’s still a bit early to start that little project. It’s been a while so I looked up how much time I should allow - 5 hours at 225° seems to be the consensus. Weirdly, one of the Google suggested questions as I typed was “How long do I smoke ribs at 225° for 5 hours?” Um, huh? Isn’t that like asking “What are the three colors on a red, white, and blue flag?” Am I missing something? Anyway, smokeage will occur today and ribs will be supper. I should get them out now and apply the rub.
And that will be my day - well, that and tending to a 92-y/o toddler (she does toddle.) Good times!
Boofae, I hope you have a fun time! I have no idea what I meant to say earlier when I saved this quote of yours. If it comes back to me, you’ll be the first to know!
Ok, more later, there is a comfy poodle on my lap and it’s a stretch to the iPad to type.
