Nuthin’ like getting 'em used to unpaid child labor early in life!
This is fantastic news - what a relief for you.
Man, everybody seein’ clearly in the MMP now!
Just got home - I am SO tired. Wanna go straight to bed, but I can’t.
The website where I wanna order my mom’s Mother’s Day gift 1a.) says Friday noon is the deadline, and 2b.) won’t work on my old-ass phone.
So imma fire up my laptop - I rarely use it - and hope to hell I can get an order squeaked through tonight. I won’t have time tomorrow - gotta clean out the fridge before the removal guys get here.
Plus, it was a hyoomid day, and I really want a shower.
And a hot meal.
It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old woman will soon be snoring!
Fed the rats; the group I moved a few days ago into an (admittedly too-small) new tank had four or five brand-new bebehs at the time.
Tonight, I see they’ve doubled that - the older batch, while still blind & utterly helpless, is noticeably more developed than the 24-hr-old naked pink little erasers.
I love seeing that.
Monkey is having his gooshy-food; I get him the nicer ones from Tiki brand when I can - only 3 ingredients. One of the ones in the multi-flavor pack is duck - damn cat eats better than I do.
I’m having a Stouffers and relaxing after a long, hot shower. I know you’re not supposed to take super-hot showers - bad for your skin - but it’s soooooooooo good for aching joints!
Change of plans re: Mom Day card.
Was looking for something else and got, naturally, an ad for something similar. Their website cooperated with my old-ass phone, hmmph! so there should be a lovely card with a pop-up hummingbird on its way to her.
Imma use the other one for her birthday. It’s also a pop-up, so a bit derivative, but what I wanted to send was a 3-D paper bouquet of lilacs, her favorites, so hopefully the similarity won’t cause too much disappointment.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/51f with a predicted high of 12c/53f, and cloudy. Weather app says “Your fucking moves are weak, Sun. You need to do fucking better than this.” I agree, it’s damp and dreary out there today, although I’m sure it’ll be good for the grass on campus that our brave Estates guys are currently trying to mow
A most excellent idea, and definitely part of my plan for global domination. All I need now is the Vice-Chancellor’s salary to go with it!
Bizarrely, ours seem to all be bundled into one. Everything goes through the same core system and whenever I have to contact them, it’s through the HR portal rather than through our finance teams instead. However, they refunded me and will just do it all again next month as it pleases them, who am I to grumble?
That sounds very colourful! I’m glad to hear you’re getting less stiff and sore though.
Yay for Friday at last, it feels like it’s been a very long week. I have no meetings in my calendar today which is always a good thing, my boss is on leave, I have a lunch date with a friend, and we have a three-day weekend to look forward to. Also, next week I only have one day on campus as I’m on leave next Thursday. 'im indoors is going to Scotland so I might give him a ride to the station and then go to the gym, although I may also be sitting at home eagerly awaiting a delivery of cheese!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 88 and mostly N.O.S. This shall be a non-people day. I do not intend on leavin’ da cave at all. Thus, sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ shall rule the day. Sup shall be various leftovers heated up (or not as may be desired) whenever the urge to feed hits.
Metal_Mouse that was an uber nice thing to do for that little boy. However, be careful as such actions can put you in jeopardy of losin’ your grump old man card.
Pilot can’t remember if I’ve said this yet, but yay for havin’ a fun lady friend. You appear to be much happy.
sari glad Echo is feelin’ better.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Hospice isn’t what it used to be. Some people (like Jimmy Carter) are in the program for over a year - it’s no longer just for imminent death. It’s more about not wasting time and effort to prolong life just because you can - does that make sense? The emphasis is on being comfortable, plus the nurse discussed with MIL what, if any, extraordinary measures should be taken, such as CPR, breathing tube, or feeding tubes. Any of these decisions can be changed at any time, and will be revisited as time goes on if necessary. With the choices made now, we won’t have to deal with them in an emergency.
So, weekly visits by a nurse to monitor and evaluate her condition, an aide to help her in the shower, a packet of OTC meds for “what if” so the nurse, or we, can deal with certain situations right away, and a fridge magnet with the phone numbers we might need. MIL will no longer go to any doctor appointments, apart from her retina specialist every 3 months. Everything will go thru Hospice. Oh, and respite care is available. It’s a relief all around.
Not everybody. Mine are scheduled for delivery next week. Did I mention my eye exam was Feb 24??? Dammit.
I let the grands mess with my old Nikon Coolpix camera - it’s 10 years old and there’s not a lot they can do to hurt it. Last night, I was trying to show Tobias how to take a picture of me. See how photogenic I am???
Other photos in the batch include a shot of FCD’s feet, a selfie of Tobias’ belly, and Roxy took an artsy photo of the hall bathroom terlit. And we didn’t have to wait for film to be developed to see the pics!!
Being Firday, it’s laundry day. Plus I plan to mow the ditches and, I hope, drive John Deere around the yards. I also need to finish yesterday’s rakeage - I don’t know how much I’ll get done, but we shall see. Yesterday’s rakeage wore me out - I was falling asleep around 8 last night. Getting old sucketh!
hey doggio … know if brown’s delivery planes had any problems with the FAA system crash ? apparently fed ex did last night and delayed all my aunt’s stuff they’re supposed to be delivering…
My parents picked up their new car 2 weeks ago. The salesman said that it had been washed by their team and was ready to go.
My dad (6’3") looked down at him and said in a very friendly manner, “Not from where I’m standing.”
They took the car back and washed the top as well.
Unfortunately a week later the dealer came to pick it up on a flatbed. After less than a week of ownership, it didn’t want to start. Hope that gets sorted soon.
I went to google something on my phone, and I still had the link from Amazon open. And then I was wondering why I had it opened. Then I remembered. Very pretty, and a nice past me surprise for future me.
I think for the benefit of parents, the code for bananas is 1. The organic ones have a different number.
Tortelini are tini (tiny).
MetalMouse, seems like you’re recruiting already, but I think 1.5 years is maybe a bit young.
While it’s probably still not easy, it certainly sounds like this will be easier for all of you.
Painter finished today and left before lunch. Went to the store to buy something for lunch. It seems that fall has come back. Brr!
This afternoon I’ve got the place to myself, which is probably the longest I’ve been home by myself since before Covid.
Pilot, I’m glad you’ve found a new… friend? Girlfriend? Etc.? Just glad you’re happy.
MetalMouse, you go! That really was so nice of you.
Sari, I hope Echo is feeling better today. Annie sends her best wishes, too.
We’ve had our breakfast here and I’ve done a little bit of work. Today is my last PT appointment. And then it will most likely be nap time when I get home. Also, I sent a message to a contractor to come give us an estimate on some work this afternoon but they haven’t given me a final confirmation that they’re coming yet. I hope they do!
Ok, off to pet the poodle and do a bit of work before I go.
Four hours of dead-ass sleep & I already feel better than yesterday.
I was so beat, I went to bed without putting on socks! That’s pretty damn tired.
Finishing off the rest of last night’s dinner - I was simply too tired to sit awake any longer to keep eating - and listening to the rain. The Oracles predict it’ll clear totally up by mid-afternoon, so at least the fridge removal guys won’t be soggy.
Okay, I need to keep this bio-break short. I have an alarm set for - gasp!! - noon, which is insanely early considering I’ll be on my feet till 2 a.m.
… well, actually, maybe less than that. Closing with the guys tonight, and they’re usually pretty fast and efficient - although on the other other hand something is up with Oven Master (something about an out-of-town trip) and he’s off the roster, so we’ll be short-handed tonight.
All the laundry is sorted. First load in the washer. Mowage may not happen today. FCD is off to work on the boat. I don’t want to be riding around on John Deere when the Hospice folks or the deliveries show up. So laundry and raking (since that’s along the driveway) will be it for sure. I might do mowage later if everyone shows up early, otherwise, tomorrow.
Just finished building this chicken salad except for the pecans, which I’ll add after MIL is up and I can leave for a short bit to get some. And I didn’t follow it exactly. I didn’t have yogurt, so I doubled the mayo, I don’t like raw onion, so I left that out, red grapes instead of green, because that’s what I have, jarred tarragon because I don’t have fresh, and bottled lime juice because I don’t have any limes here at the moment. But, bottom line, I think my alterations are minor and it’s a really REALLY yummy salad.
So much for reading - my washer will be done shortly.
No problem there; I’m going to the License Center a couple miles away in about an hour to renew my license tag, so that’ll renew my grumpy old man credentials…
Probably, but we have a ‘playground’ program for 3-4 year olds, so not real too early (and the kid was good-sized for his age and walked/ran around the field pretty well).
Morning all. Awoke to Thunder-Boomers about 6am, tried to get back to sleep but the lightning and the rain kept me from fully getting back to sleep, so up about 7:30 and more or less awake. Today’s major activities are getting the new license plate tag and doing the May shopping, I think soccer is likely to be called off and we’ll see about the swimming.
Thanks to all for the kind comments, it really wasn’t all that much, but I will admit that I did feel good about myself when I did it.
FCM, cute pic by Toby…in a demonic sort of way… And sounds like the hospice is making the best of a bad/sad situation. And not a chicken salad guy, but I admit that looks good, and there is no such thing as too much mayo…
nellie, so glad you had a great time with the family.
JtC, so sorry friends don’t realize that you are leaving for your reasons, not staying for their’s. Give then a couple of days to process it, I’m sure it’ll be on the mend before you leave.
shoe, them rats of your breed like…well, rats. Hope you don’t get overrun.
Alrighty, need to get dressed for the weather and being with the rest of the public, so off I go. Have a good Firday all.
boo fae, sounds like a good TGIF time. Enjoy the 3-day weekend.
Sticky Buns, Glad for you that thePT is almost over and hope the contractor shows up.
It started slow, then everything hit at the last minute. And after the Smalls, I was on the 100 Slide, helping heave up heave boxes. It’s nice to be admire for more than just my cerebral cortex. I grabbed some catfish for fish tacos at Teeter. When I came home I forgot to feed Spot before I had a restroom break, so he loudly staved to death outside the door while I was on the throne. Laundry is going, and Spot and I have had our dry, flavorless bits(mine had milk and raisins).
That might explain why all the Next Day Air showed up at 0745.
“You forgot to use a coaster, so I am gonna axe murder you!”
I never sleep without socks, even if its 80.
Someone asked how my training is going.
The online academy is not letting me complete a task, just like when I took it last August…i assume I am getting paid for it, as I log in and must do it in the restaurant…
Next one tomorrow.
Boss seems nice, maybe he’ll help me out.
It would be nice to just learn it on the job, instead of online.
Its rainy today, which I dislike strongly.
2 more library holds came in, now I have 7 books to finish.
It’s nice and sunny now, but we’re supposed to get rain later on, so I’m going to head to the gym. Trying to decide wether I should also trek to the store. I’m craving fruit, and I’ve used up all I had. i also want to get outside and work in my “yard,” aka my balcony.
I forgot to say yesterday that we also had pomegranate martinis before dinner. They were delicious and refreshing. I may have to make them next time I have company.
CatGlove, I’m so glad your hubs is doing so wel.! Wonderful news! MetalMouse, too late. You’ve been dropped from the International Order of Grumpy Old Guys and have been a lifetime member of the Generous Gentlemen Association.
She seems to see your move as a betrayal of your friendship. I can understand why your moving could make her feel bereft, but I’m still having trouble understanding the anger. That is, I can see why she’d be sad and upset because she’s depended on you, but why the anger?
Taters, I can only imagine how hard it is to be away from the grands. When will the next visit be, do you know?
You’re a saint to order her a Mother’s Day gift. I know you love her, but a lot of adult children would be pretending they’d been raised by wolves right about now. Hats off to you, dear shoe.
Hey, we kids used to sing that on rainy days back in the day! And when we heard a loud crack of thunder, we’d sing, “Milkman, keep those bottles quiet!” Dad taught us that line. It was from this 1943 song.
I’ll bet! It sounds like an excellent plan. And I want you to know I laughed long and hard at that photo. Tobias is talented! I shall think of that photo every time you get good news.
Caffeinating, bed stripped and remade, kitchen / bath cleaneded up, last load in the dryer and taking a break before sweeping / vacuuming the floors.
I managed to knock my second (nearly full) cup of coffee over this morning, into my keyboard, so’s I had to clean up that mess too. I used some high test isopropyl alcohol to get in the crevices and the only damage seems to be that the scroll buttons aren’t working (yet). If things go sideways, I keep an extra keyboard / mouse set back for times like these.
I talked to Sis this morning. Given the route closures because of the flooding, she’s postponed her trip until next week. She’s retired, so she can do that. Now I have to figure out what to do for supper, lol. We usually go out for dinner when she’s here, to places that I don’t tend to go by myself.
Well, given the above information, I’m guessing you won’t be going to doggio’s for dinner!
In about an hour Annie and I will be going to the vet. About 10:45 this morning she had a… something. Perhaps it was a seizure, I’m not sure. This is the second time that it’s happened to her. Fortunately, MusicMan was home and he got about two minutes of video that I can show the vet. Just as I’m sitting here writing this, I now remembered that they didn’t want me to come back if it happened again, they just wanted me to keep a log of seizure activity. However, I think this is a little different because we have the video. And anyways, we have the ‘paw plan’ which covers office visits, so, we will be going.
Fridge fully cleaned out - one box of “trustables” (e.g. ketchup, chili crisp, shelf-stable pudding cups - stuff that can easily sit out for a few days) and a smaller box of “take to work’s walk-in hopefully” (e.g. cheese, hummus, a can of whomp croissants, plus some condiments like Thai sweet chili dip that I thought it might be fun to have at work for stuff like chicken strips.)
Thinking the croissants can go in a pizza oven tonight - twice the heat, half the time, surely nothing will go wrong?
Threw out a buncha stuff that I simply didn’t trust or wanna babysit (eggs!) plus crap I didn’t care about or use.
Sorry, 1/3 jar of seedless blackberry jam … you were delishush, but you’ve been sittin’ in the fridge door since … what month is it? What year is it?
Now, I sit … and wait …
You know it’s boring when the best “fun” I could find was to round up a load of laundry to swish.
Monkey really wanted to go outside but since the side door will be open for a while when strange men are in my home, being noisy and intrusive, I’d prefer to simply shut him in a secure room until the deed is done. Otherwise, retrieving him before leaving for work may be a challenge, and given that the “window” extends an hour past when I’m supposed to be at work anyway, I’d rather keep him contained and not add to delays.
He’ll complain, loudly, then will get over it.
Such is the way of the life of the kitteh.
Travel mugs (with lids!) … they’re not just for traveling anymore.
Video evidence equals one helluva(n) activity log!
I don’t know how you feel about this current vet. But it’s possible that a new, fresh vet may have a different approach, especially given video evidence to see, as opposed to what a flustered owner says they think they saw, which I imagine isn’t the best evidence to go by.
Anyway, just a thought.
I’ve done that, too. Estranged myself for years. Long story short, that woman can out-stubborn me, and that is saying a lot.
Besides, I may about her here - and in the Pit - a lot, but in her way, she tries to do right by me.
Sorta.
She does love me & care about me. It’s just that her way of expressing that does. not. mesh. with me & my brain, much of the time.
Hell, they’re trying to get my phone turned back on.
They’re doing it for their own reasons, but yanno what, it’ll help me deal with the I.R.S (much $$$ !) plus I’m sitting on the phone number of a guy who asked me out for coffee the other day, and yes G.C. is still in the picture, but when it happened and I had a bit of a “WTF?” fit (this happened at work) S.M. pointed out that 1a.) it’s good to have options, and 2b.) it’s just coffee.
Yeah. “Just coffee.” That’s gotta be the oldest excuse in the book.
He was really cute, though. And he said he remembered me from when I started & was still training.
(Me: “Well, I sure as f#@× don’t remember you, but I have a trash can memory.”)
I didn’t SAY ^^ but I sure as hell thought it.
