(Old) Happy National Shrimp Scampi Day in the MMP!

WetOne so sorry about the mishap. Hope you’re feeling better today.

sari I’m sure your aunt is appreciative. My confirmation name is Theresa and so I’m glad you went through Society of the Little Flower.
Good implied advice for WetOne.

except it’s spring and beautiful spring nature. I’ll bet it lifted your spirits.
those food boxes are amazing; kurdos to your town for that program.

metal mouse almost typed Mighty Mouse but yes, you deserve a cape for all the good you are doing for the young girls.

boofae I don’t think it’s an HR thing, I’m pretty sure it’s an Accounting thing because it was Payroll that contacted you and Payroll is usually part of Accounting; besides the way expenses are recorded is a function of Accounting rather than HR.

Metal Mouse wow, that quite a schedule, about 20 minutes until you can relax in front of the tv. hope everything goes according to plan.

So my wonderful church has given me the 20 to get my new glasses!

As the prpud owner of a brand-new pair of glass eyeball enhancers myself, I can testify what a blessing it is to be able to see properly.

How’s the training for your new job going?

New clips for the rat tank & Charm’s tank arrived, along with a psychedelic tie-dye bandanna I’m super excited to wear for tomorrow’s Long Night shift.
Plus gooshy-food for Monkey.

Something I read was that one had meat filling and one was just cheese and veggies. I don’t know - it’s not Polish… :stuck_out_tongue:

Hospice nurse just left - MIL is now in the program. She’ll be getting an aide twice a week to help her shower, along with a bench that will fit the tub and allow her to swing her legs in, so she won’t be using our shower any longer. Yay! (Not that I didn’t want her in there, but the tub will be easier to manage than our little shower stall.) The nurse who was here was the same one who helped with FIL when he went into care.

This morning, I raked most of the leaves along the driveway, but I ran out of steam after 2 hours. I’ll finish tomorrow when it’s cooler. I’ll also mow the ditch and both yards. But no more outside work today.

So chillage till Daughter and the grands get here.

I read your post three times and saw “black” all three times. I think my brain is turning to mush. Also, there is actually something called “black bacon”. I believe it’s an Irish thing.

Epic bruise on my right inner thigh, the color of grape jelly. The stiffness and soreness is dissipating.

I don’t know any of the codes (the sponge is full), I just be sure that all produce has a sticker with the code on it… or else I use the button for get code by name of product.

Don’t know why but yesterday I was so tired that I went upstairs shortly after 8pm. I read on my mini Ipad for a little while but went to sleep pretty quickly. Woke up just after midnight with the worst case of acid reflux that I have had in years. It was burning my throat and even my mouth a bit. Luckily I had brought up a big glass of water when I went upstairs so I drank that down then sat up reading the internet for at least an hour so that the acid was diluted and stayed down. So fell back to sleep between 1 and 2. Woke up shortly after 6 and felt pretty refreshed. So got right up and started the day. Soaked some clothes pre-launder, washed/vinegared some blueberries, took inventory of Hubs’ meds, made breakfast for him, loaded the washing machine, sheveled, then we were off to the weekly Stem Cell Transplant clinic appointment.

Since it’s May, the Drs rotated clinic duties and YAY, we had Dr Edward rather than the woman Dr that we met with last month. He came in twice during the visit; shortly after the blood draw to find out what’s been going on with Hubs (intestinal upset since the weekend) and then again after the lab results came in. He deftly addressed the issues, had the nurse(s) give Hubs some infused fluids and changed the meds dosages. Meaning no more magnesium tablets, no more magnesium infusions and reduced immunosuppresion dosage and said that after next week’s Inhalation treatment that he can likely go on bactrim so that we don’t have to make the trip for that kind of treatment. Also had an order put in to have the tri-fusion catheter removed. Hubs was due for another bone marrow biopsy in April but the April clinic Dr was somewhat negligent in ordering/following up on this. She only put in the order on April 25 and perhaps didn’t do it properly or didn’t tell the nurses to follow up on it because no one ever called to get it scheduled. Dr. Edward was surprised by this and took action to be sure it happened. Once we got home we got calls from both IR to schedule the catheter removal and from the hospital that does sedation for the bone marrow biopsy to get that scheduled as well. Also, since Hubs is doing so well, his clinic appointments will now be with his pre-op Dr in the afternoons rather than with whatever Dr is on rounds in the clinic in the mornings. I think this means that he will likely go to bi-weekly appts rather than wkly. And he’s no longer using a cane and while he’s walking slowly, it’s faster than he was walking a week or two ago. So, right now things are on the bright side.

Put the clothes that were presoaking in the washing machine and got that load started; need to go down and hang it up. Daughter is definitely coming today (oh, the Dr also said she can bring the plants back; I had to give her my Mom’s african violet, Hubs’ Mom’s Christmas cactus and 2 pointsettias that the funeral home gave me when Mom & Dad passed.) so I need to clean the room she will be in, kitchen floor so Bella doesn’t eat the crumbs that have fallen, do dishes, filter some water, brine the pork chops and change sheets and swiffer in the room Hubs is in.

Have as best a Thorsday as you’re able :hammer:

The 2-3-y/o class had a “carwash” at Starmaker. SIL at the wheel and Tobias at the sponge.
Imgur
It was a team effort!
Imgur
Apparently, the tongue is an essential element of carwashing.
Imgur
I’m sorry I missed it, but apparently the kids had a ball! It wasn’t a fundraiser, and according to Daughter, the roof of her car is dirty! I love that school!!

That is one car wash that I would NOT pass by. So very cute!

Who actually looks at car roofs anyway? :person_shrugging:

Wash is hung up so that’s one thing down.
Also need to set up the pillbox for the next week.

Howdy Y’all! The things got done and then we were bears who brunch. Then it was back to da cave for chillage, sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. Yup. That’s life in the fast lane. Netflix, chill, and popcorn are on the agenda for this evenin’.

MOOOOOOM too adorable! I bet that car wash was a hoot and a half.

shoe that’s one trippy hippy bandanna!

Pillbox has been filled.
Brined pork chops
Dishes washed
Dinner made (pork chops, mashed potatoes, kernal corn, spiced applesauce)
Kitchen floor cleaned

About half way through the to do list. whew.

Up from naptime, and wearing spot as a sleeping cap. Also I’d like to know if he keeps licking my head because “I must teach the idiot kitten to groom itself” ir “how many licks to get to the center of this fleshy Tootsie Roll Pop?” Anyways, this Mai Tai is good.

To be fair, I don’t know all the codes, but for the ones I use most:
3107- Navel orange, 4048- lime, 4053- lemon, 4091- sweet potato, 4062- cucumber(non english), 4011- banana

Sticky, what Metalmouse said.

FCM, awwwww.

Yay!

Trippy!

Thank you! I have PMed you.

I hope that Echo feels better soon sari.

Squee! Those toddlers washing the car are adorable Mooooooom!

The lead that I was hoping would take the supervisor position got it! She’s not always sunshine and rainbows, but she’s organized, sensible and takes into consideration skills, strengths and weaknesses. I let her know yesterday that I would be available most of the day today for something outside of my area (she trusts me to make those judgments and tends to put me on something that I’m both able and willing to do), and she put me up front in presort. Again, I saw the results of people who should not be trusted with packaging materials. :stuck_out_tongue:

When I got home, I took Nelson out, sat down for a glass of tea before heading to the grocery store. Sis in Houston called (she’s part of the reason that I needed to get it out of the way today) called and told me that she may wait until Saturday to start her trip. Storms / flooding shut down part of US59 and I10. She knows that when she spends a Saturday night, unless I have prior notice to take Monday off, she needs to be out first thing Sunday morning so’s I can do all of the stuff that needs to be done and get to bed in time to get up at 0200. If she waits until Saturday, she plans on spending more time than usual on the return trip.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Approaching bedtime here. I’m outside by the pool looking at a mostly clear sky as the temp drops past 78/25 on the way to 72/22. Today’s high was about 86/30 and clear. God’s weather.

FCM Sad to see MIL in the hospice program but it’s a good thing overall. As I know you know. And yes, the carwash pix were totally adorable.

WetOne: good to know you’re not seriously damaged. Despite the technicolor hip.

I read everyone, but those seem to be the folks most in need of a sympathy booster. Cheers, boos, etc., to everyone else as swampy says so much more eloquently than I.

As to me …
A productive and useful day for me, with time out for 3 timely and dietarily correct meals. I’d gotten bad about eating too irregularly and too badly for my wimpy pancreas to cope. Gotta stop that before shit gets too real.

The measurement expedition proved successful beyond all expectations and very useful. The appropriate shelving has been computed, ordered, and will be delivered to my storage unit before I load out from there to move in. Made a couple other measurement-based decisions on lower-priority things that I’ll order in a couple days when I can set the delivery date after move-in so the goods will come straight to my door. No more schlepping hither and yon will feel mighty nice.

Massively looking forward to the upcoming long weekend with BB. We’ll meet in the morning on Sat at her place, then repair to the hotel as soon as the room is available, so noon-ish. With some fully clothed fun along the way. Sat, Sun, and the early part of Mon we’ll be together, then her life stuff gets in the way again and we part company. I can hardly wait. If her texts are to be believed neither can she. Rowwwrrr!

Cheers and good night all!

Evening all. Got my new eyeglasses, pedaled about 700 calories away, and the prescription was picked up at 4pm since it wasn’t quite ready earlier. Only had 4 girls for soccer practice (4 of the others had already dropped me a note that they couldn’t make it) so we did a few fun games and drills and called it a night. Hadn’t been to Krystal’s in a while and had both cash and calories in reserve, so dinner was 3 double cheeseburger sliders (I resisted the temptation to add fries, so yea me). Tomorrow will be the Great May Grocery Shopping, I have my list and coupons all ready to go. However, there is a 75% chance of rain tonight, tomorrow, and Firday night, so soccer actions in the near future are in doubt. Just have to see what the Weather Wizards do to us. Also got my license plate tag renewal ($217.43 for a 1inch square stick’em), so may go there in person rather that via mail, it’s right next to the Kroger where the groceries mostly are.

Cookie, nothing like a little nepotism…  Glad you could help grandson and hope he enjoys working there.

so ‘dinuch’ or lunner’? Either way, hope you enjoyed yourself.

Naw, lots of coaches are doing the same thing…but I did do a nice thing today, as I was setting up for soccer practice some younger folks (appeared possibly Arabic, the ladies had their heads covered) were on the other end of the field with a 1.5year old boy, who was all over the place and grabbing his (older brother/fathers??) soccer ball, which was full-sized and almost as big as he was, so I gave him one of my ‘size 3’ balls which the youngest kids have to keep him entertained. When they finished they walked over with him holding the ball to return it, and I just told them to keep it, I have 7-8 others just like it, so now he has a soccer ball of his own. So that was a nice thing, now I can be a miserable SOB to even things out…

Coppertone, shoe, as the proud possessor of two new pair of glasses, I am happy for you both.

FCM, glad hospice is on-board and will hopefully relieve you of some of the responsibility. And those pictures were absolutely delightful!

wet one, glad nothing appears broken. The big scrape on my leg from last Saturday is starting to dissapate, but it has caused little pain so far. Hope it keeps healing fast for you.

cat glove, glad you got your full allotment of sleep and that Hubs Dr. appointment went so well. And good wished getting that list whittled down.

red, sounds like the new Super will be a good fit.

Pilot, glad the measurement trip went so well. And I can see your…mounting excitement over the weekends festivities. Enjoy.

After 9pm here, so need to finish the last bits of internetting and head off to bed with the lightweight comforter in place. Catch y’all on Firday.

Good on you metal mouse for getting the kidlet an introduction to soccer. I think about you when I watch the neighbor kids across the fence play pick up games. They range black, white, Latino, Asian and Arabic, little kids and bigger ones with the older ones teaching the littles things like sock vs shoe contact. I hope that away from the neighborhood, they have a coach like you.

Happy Thorsday!

Another hot day, 88 degrees.
No park though. Petey dad wasn’t going and Echo is still sick.

I think Echo will be better by tomorrow, she’s doing a lot better this evening. We still won’t go and let her have another day of rest.
I don’t want to push it.

Shar Pei fever is breed specific JtC. It’s genetic and the mutation that causes wrinkled skin is also related to the fever. Responsible breeders are working to eliminate it.
From my experience, it is usually caused by stress of some kind. My first Pei, Mackie got SPF a lot. He was really an Ori-Pei, Shar Pei x Pug, which is a whole other topic that I have strong views on. Ripple had a few episodes, and now Echo is having them. They run a fever, they hurt, their hocks swell up (it’s also called swollen hock syndrome), their faces hurt, and they ‘lose their muzzle’. Aspirin helps, but it helps best if you get it in them before they get bad. Because their faces hurt, they will lock their jaws tight and it’s hard to get something in them. Ripple would bite me if I tried to open his mouth Echo just doesn’t have it in her to bite. There are drugs like colchicine, that are used. I’d rather stick with aspirin unless she starts to fever often. SPF can also cause amyloidosis.
It is similar to Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) in humans.

As far as Ori-Pei. There was a man named Aaron Silver who wanted to create a Shar Pei with fewer health issues. so he crossed them with pugs. This would give a smaller dog, with wrinkles, and hopefully a better personality. Mackie was something like 5th generation Ori Pei, and could be traced back to the original dogs. I had registration papers for him, but I never sent them in. I think he gave up, I haven’t seen anything about them for a long time. EXCEPT, there are people who will cross a Shar Pei with a Pug and call them Ori Pei. IMNSHO, they are mutts and you can call them whatever you want, they are NOT Ori Pei.
To me, that is the same as if you crossed a Rottweiler with a Greyhound and tried to call the offspring Dobermans. It doesn’t work that way.
Off my rant!

MetalMouse, I shouldn’t have mentioned the friend whose SIL tried to kill her daughter. That was years ago and all is okay now. I just hear murder and my mind goes there. Her daughter is fine now, just got remarried to a very nice and well-set man who treats her like gold. The granddaughter is doing well, going to school to be a PA. The grandson is doing well, now.
It really messes with a kid’s mind to know their father tried to kill their mother.
They have nothing to do with their father. The grandson never wanted to, the granddaughter tried but it was pretty evident that along with being single and not wanting to split assets, their father really didn’t want to be a father anymore either.
He is loose running around in the world. He somehow managed to get many of their mutual friends on his side, because somehow it was his wife’s fault he tried to kill her. Psychopaths are good at what they do. However, a few of the mutual friends came to her and told her that they had seen things in him, and a few were even a little scared of him. I met him a few times, I thought he was rather pathetic. Not in a ‘I feel sorry for him’ way, but in a ‘disgusting lack of respect’ way. He presents himself as the victim in all this. He should be in jail, for life, but he had a good job with a strong union that could pay for a high priced super attorney, and so he got off lightly.
I was rather amused at his outrage, that as he was being escorted in shackles and handcuffs, the police didn’t notice the ice that had built up on the steps.

And yes, CMT can be pretty bad.
It was mostly farmers on my mother’s side, so they did what had to be done. One of my mother’s cousins has been in a wheelchair since his late 20s, and his son needed his feet amputated. Others have very few symptoms. The only thing they can be sure of is that it will get progressively worse as they age.
I am very happy that my grandmother didn’t carry the gene.

Very adorable picturers FCM!

I have to say that ever time I see the thread title, I want to make mussels in white wine and garlic. (Use tarragon for the herbs, and use salted butter for the butter. Serve with a baguette.)

We decided to make it an early dinner. The kids (OK, not kids, but I get to call them that.) ordered the early dinner special, which was a three-course meal. They didn’t have scampi, but I had very nice prawns and fettuccini, and there was enough to take home for tomorrow’s dinner. We had a wonderful time.

Tortelloni always have cheese filling. Tortellini MAY have cheese filling or may have meat (especially sausage) or vegetables or some combination thereof. I never had tortelloni until I grew up, I guess because they’re a northern Italian dish. OTOH, Mom made polenta, which is supposedly a northern Italian dish, though she mixed in spaghetti sauce and bits of Italian sausage. Yum.

Yeah, well, this is kinda like breaking up with a high school crush and wanting to be friends afterwards. When I got to the library, the door to the room was closed and it would be rude to go in and interrupt class, so I gave the library people the things I had selected for TC and NF along with the left over produce.

We also get a lot of ground turkey and chicken drumsticks, more that we can use, so I asked the library folks how big their freezer was because they do take frozen things for the food shelf. She showed me and I went home and filled a box with just enough stuff to fill their freezer. TC friend was just leaving when I got back so came over and grumped at me. Then she said she was still so upset that she couldn’t talk about it and left.

Spoiled due to sadness: VBC used to lick us as often as we would let her. We would laugh about her sneaky licks while we were cuddling with her. She licked my hand that horrible last night but didn’t lick my hand the next morning at the ER vet. I wish we had let her lick our hands more often.

I had a Triumph Spitfire named Murphy because if something could go wrong with it’s Lucas electrical system, it would happen at the worse possible moment. I loved that car and I looked so hawt driving it. Of course, a lot of that was because I spent so much time pushing it around or lifting and gently lowering the bonnet.

It was a great floozy car, not only did I get a workout every time I drove it, I did it in while wearing 4 inch heels and a mini skirt. There are so many helpful men out there and some of them actually know a bit about cars.

As an aside, do you know that the Lucas electrical system is still mocked by American bikers to this day?

“Why do British bikers drink warm beer?”
“Because Lucas made refrigerators too.”

I agree that this is an Accounting decision. Those folks get pretty twitchy about silly stuff.
