(Old) Happy National Shrimp Scampi Day in the MMP!

Evening all. By the time lunch settled it was time for soccer on the TV so I waited until about 6pm before heading over to the gym to get my laps in. So home about 8:30 and fixed some grilled ham-n-cheesers for the night meal which are digesting quietly (for now) in my gut. Will get a couple more internet things done and then head off to bed.

Coppertone, hope the training goes well.

Sticky Buns, I vote for the ham sammich, considering I just ate two of my own.

Pilot, happy measuring. Sounds like a good plan.

wet one, Ouch. Falls are never fun (had my first one in awhile last Saturday) and from the height of a horse, just glad it just bumps and bruises and nothing appears to be broken. Cupcakes offers a good point and I concur with the others, if it persists, get it checked.

Sari, hope Echo gets to feeling like her usual perky self soon. Had to google that Syndrome since I had never heard of it, and ugh, sounds quite unpleasant. I think it would make a splendid donation in her memory. And that’s horrible news about your BFF’s daughter. Hope she is OK and the SIL gets some help (I know, very unlikely, but one can hope).

nellie, And an interesting assortment of flags there.

JtC, I got down on the ground Monday to demonstrate an exercise to the 9-year old girls and managed to get myself up without help, which surprised me. Guess all that exercise helps.

Truth.

Heading towards 10pm so I’ll sign off now and catch y’all on Thorsday.

Oh, the shot is for the auto-immune mast cell disorder, aka the itchies. I have to get one every two weeks. The migraine was a free gift from Mother Nature. I’d have preferred a gift card to Trader Joe’s, but you get what you get.

I was pretty surprised the first time I could do it as well. Isn’t that a motivator to continue what you are doing

That’s what I thought I remembered, but I didn’t remember them giving you migraine in the past. I’ve been kinda distracted the last few weeks, but I do try to keep up if possible.

Spring has sprung here as well and I keep getting the light flashes in my peripheral vision that warn me that problems are brewing, but so far that’s all that has happened.

Hopefully Mother Nature won’t smite you for snubbing her gift, she can be a real bitch when she wants to.

…so today I had a real hard conversation with TC friend. She’s been in denial about us moving, it wasn’t until she came by for produce that she realized that it was actually happening due to the full moving boxes in the living room. She was actually sounding betrayed by us leaving because we have been so active in the community for so long. It was not fun.

We are still friends.

I will be missing TC tomorrow because my doctor rescheduled me and I need to get that done before I’m in full packing frenzy. (my box filled stitching room was what seemed to really slap TC friend in the face :frowning: )

Hopefully I will be able to get to the library before TC gets over so NF can shop out of my produce box (there are Oreos) and get my box back from the library people because I am moving and need boxes.

When NF and I were driving through all of the Native American reservations and seeing signs for places to stop and buy little bowls, I was never triggered. I offered to stop so NF could but would always tell her “I can’t buy anything, I’m moving so I’m poor!” That became a joke between us because she would offer to buy something (T-shirt, tiny bowls, other tchotchkes) for me and I’d refuse because I’m moving and poor and can’t afford to ship it and we both would laugh.

So, the I’m moving part is why I will probably stop picking up the surplus boxes. Mostly all I will be getting is a box, and they always beg folks to bring them boxes. It would be rude to keep taking their boxes and not bringing any back.

I (sort of) napped
Me: “Spot! WTF are you doing!”
Spot: “I am making biscuits. I understand you lesser forms find it ‘cute’.”
Me: “Not on my jugular!”

Spot: < zoomies across dogbutler neck >
Me: “Harck!”

Spot: “You appear to have mage on you cranium. I shall clean in.”
Me: “Ow ow ow ow ow ow.”
In the brief periods I was asleep, I dreamed I had to keep Spot, the bear, and the snake from eating each other. Sorry Mr. Noodle.

Also, dinner was sallit, meatballs with cheese tortellini, and a martini.
Now it’s up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Ouch. But like everybody said,

Hope the asprin helps out Echo, sari. And maybe you gets some rest tonight.

JtC, glad TC is being understanding. At least somewhat.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/53f with a predicted high of 20c/67f, and cloudy. Weather app says “How fucking typical. Another shitty overcast day.” Actually, it’s quite nice out there, I have the window open in the office and I can hear birdsong so it’s not all bad.

One of my friends also had a Chevette, we always called it a “Shove-It” because that’s what we had to do to get it started!

nellie the university recruits people from anywhere, and sometimes we do have to wonder how that person ever got through the interview process! This lady was a team leader in hospitality so she’s got plenty of experience dealing with pressure, tight deadlines and all that kind of thing - very necessary in her new role - but next to no experience in a higher education setting. Not a problem for me, I’ll just tell her what I need her to do

WetOne Ouchie! I hope you’re no worse than just sore today!

That is a lovely idea, and I’m sure your aunt would approve. I had to look it up though, never heard of that one before.

Ooooh!, how exciting! My very basic advice would be to always do your strength training before you do your cardio  Also, have a plan when you go to the gym - a lot of people will split their training so they have a leg day, a back day, chest/arms/shoulders day, and a rest day or two. If your gym has personal trainers, you could book a couple of sessions to help you put an effective training programme together so you know what you want to do every time you’re there.

No great excitement in my world today, I have a couple of meetings (one is for my boss who’s on leave today so I get to sit in on something for her) and that’s about it. I’ve got a bunch of fiddly jobs to get done so I could do with a peaceful day to get on with those.

In other news, I also need to delve into the mysteries of HR! I logged my strike day absences into our central HR system, as we are required to do. I got paid on Monday, there was a deduction for my three days of absence as I expected there to be. On Tuesday I got an email from Payroll saying the strike deductions had been mistakenly taken from my April salary, they were refunding it back to my bank account, and would be deducting it again from the May salary. WTF? If you’ve already taken the money, why give it back just to deduct it again? Truly, HR is a planet I would not want to visit!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 88 and mostly N.O.S. We shall get shorn this mornin’ and then head over to the church house so I can deal with various duties. Then we shall be bears who brunch at Newk’s which will take care of the main need to feed for the day. Sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ are on the agenda after that.

Sari the donation sounds like a good idea to me.

BooFae HR World is a weird world. Vogons would love HR.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, I must purtify and once again don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe and despair.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

I had a Chevette 40-some years ago! For a short time, it was the only vehicle FCD and I had. We learned that just because something fit into its hatch, that didn’t mean we should haul it - like the steel fuel tanks he built for a boat… We drove that thing till it all but died - I think we got $200 in trade for it, purely out of sympathy!

swampy - we’re promised 89°!!! That’s stooopit hot for this early in the year. Dammit. I’m going to try to do some yard work before it gets too steamy.

MIL has to have her pacemaker checked this morning, then Hospice is coming this afternoon. I’m not needed for the first, but FCD requested I be present for the second - yet another reason to do yard work early. Then Daughter is bringing her spawn for supper tonight - we’ll have tortellini/tortelloni (still not sure which is which) and some take-and-bake Italian bread. I need some sort of veggie, too. Or maybe fruit? Something healthy.

So that’s the plan. Such as it is.

Happy Thursday!!

Good morning.

It’s 39 degrees Fahrenheit and clear outside. It’ll be sunny all day today, and the expected high temperature is 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

wetone, I hope you’re feeling better today. I fell off a horse in my youth and somehow sprained my wrist.

sari, I hope both you and Echo are feeling better today.

boofae, HR is definitely a weird world.

The work craziness just keeps ramping up. There are nonstop interruptions and nonstop work. The pace is frenetic, and my patience is wearing thin. But, I keep on keepin’ on.

I was hoping to do some gardening this weekend, but rain moves in tomorrow evening, so if I’m going to do any, it’ll have to be during the day tomorrow.

My husband wants to take the pups to the park, so hopefully, we can squeeze that in between the periods of rain. Buster hates the rain. He’ll frolic in the spray from a hose, but rain is a big NOPE.

I’m missing the grandkids fiercely. It’s hard to watch them grow up through pictures. Zoe has lost more teeth, and the tooth fairy is making her rich! Adam is growing like a weed and loving life. The kids graveled their driveway up to the new house site. It’s very, very, very, very long. I think they break ground any day now.

FCM, I hope all goes well with both appointments. I can understand why FCD wants you there for the second appointment. It will probably be rough because it’s one step further in accepting the inevitable.

Well, I suppose I should finish my coffee and head upstairs. I took care of the kitchen last before bed, so I don’t have to deal with that today. In about 30 minutes or so, I’ll feed the pups.

Morning all. Up early (well, early for me) and have broken fast, need to go to the post office and dry cleaners sometime this morning and the gym in the afternoon so I can do soccer practice before dinner. Rain is expected tomorrow so Saturday soccer may be in jeopardy, but we’ll see. Heading for 85F today for might have to turn the AC on.

nellie, hope the migraine has abated.

JtC, it’s sometimes hard when things change, I think TC friend knows it’s likely she will never see you again and maybe it’s hard for her to accept. Glad you are still friends.

boo fae, thanks for the advice, I do want to consult with a personal trainer to get their advice, and thanks for the recommendation of strength first, then cardio. Will have to strike a new balance with different workouts in the mix. And Human Resources can be a world unto it’s own…hope it all works out evenly in the end.

taters, hope work settles down for you.

OK, about an hour before the post office opens, so take care and I’ll catch up a little later.

Busy morning. I changed MIL’s bedding and washed the windows in her room. I emptied and refilledthe dishwasher. Taking a short break before raking along the front driveway before it gets too hot.

I’m awake this morning and am not dizzy, projectile vomiting, any of the stuff that goes with head injuries. All parts are working. Muscles are sore. Sore! Allergy shots this morning, then sloth. Supposed to be 82 and rain. I got season 1 of The Wire from the liberry so will start watching that.

Another busy day, with the Assistant To the Technomage doing his best to (barely) keep the SSLAWs running. Finished up in Irregs. Also they were doing the Demonstration of Knowledge(DOK) quiz today. Apparently the answer to “Always _____ your Work” is “face”, not “fuck up”. Who knew? I went to Teeter for my Senior Day shopping. I amazed both cashiers because I knew all the codes for my produce by heart. Now for naptime, assuming somebody doesn’t go batshit insane again.

Sorry work is being irk-some, and you aren’t seeing the grandkids, Taters.

“They wouldn’t save their own grandmothers from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal without an order, signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public enquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters.” - THHGTTG*

Always good.

Hi. Not too busy, but kinda too overwhelmed to respond to all that I read. I did, in fact, decide to say bye bye to that place that I had been volunteering. There were some issues there and experiencing them was kinda giving me flashbacks to the stuff that cause me significant problems at school. Back to the drawing board on that front.

Annie is currently inspecting the kitchen table that she is standing on (go ahead and judge me if you must). And I had sloppy joes for lunch just a short while ago. (Not currently on the table with the dog.) MusicMan hasn’t made it downstairs yet, but I heard a big ‘WOOHOO’ and apparently it was because one of his sons finally has a girlfriend.

I am getting some stuff done today cleaning-wise. So that’s a good thing. As soon as MM goes to work, it will definitely be nap time. Oh, and I sorta have a sleep schedule. It’s just that it doesn’t matter if I stay up to see MM after work or go to bed before, I always wake up around 5a.m.

Ok, off I go!

Did my morning outside the house stuff. my prescription is in the system but won’t be ready for pickup until this afternoon, letter is mailed and dry cleaning will be collected next Moanday. And just got a call as I typed the last sentence, my new eyeglasses have arrived. So the plan is to go pick them up now and since it’s right across from the gym, get my pedaling in, then head to the drugstore for my prescription and still be home in time (2pm) for the European soccer games. Then coach soccer tonight and forage for sustenance later. I love it when a plan comes together…

Sticky Buns, volunteer work is something that should make you feel good; obviously the place you’re at now is not succeeding, so finding something else seems like the right idea. Happy nappage!

doggio, I think I know my tomato and banana codes, still working on the apples…

wet one, glad you’re doing well, the soreness will be around for a couple of days, enjoy the watching.

OK, best be about the plan lest slothage messes it up. Onward!!

Another blustery day in MSP. We’re catching the edges and remains of the devastating storms that are sweeping south of us.

Breakfast burritos for the morning’s feed.

We have tickets to a Rachmaninoff concert this morning, but that’s fallen by the wayside. I’m not a huge fan of sitting through a classical music concert. They tend to make me fall asleep. But the wife likes them, so I grit my teeth and go with her. Luckily for me, she wasn’t up to it today.

I found a work opportunity for my step-grandson, who is looking for between-semester employment. It’s working right here in The Home as a server in the dining room. $17/hr, which isn’t bad. Part-time jobs are hard to find at this time of year when all the schools are letting out, and he’d be a perfect fit.

Looks like a beans and wienies dinner for later. I’ll probably open the can all by myself.

Back bacon, banger, black pudding, and an over-easy egg for me. I think I’ll finish off the last sausage for lunch.

This afternoon I go to the periodontist for a deep-cleaning on both left quadrants. After that, I don’t have anyone scheduled to be in my mouth. I will need a crown on another tooth eventually, but it can wait. My implant is still loose and needs to be taken out, but right now I’m about $30 short on my HSA account to pay for today’s visit. I’ll have to live with it for a while. (Not that it hurts or anything. I just need to not used it much.)

Shrimp for dinner, but not scampi. A marinade of oil, lemon, Old Bay, and other stuff. Served over brown rice and an artichoke on the side.

Trying to figure out what ‘black bacon’ is. Looks like it might be what we call ‘Canadian bacon’?

I did type back and not ‘black’. You made me look!

The term “Canadian bacon” is not used in Canada, where the product is generally known simply as “back bacon” while “bacon” alone refers to the same streaky pork belly bacon as in the United States.

My daughter’s husband’s meetings won’t end until 3:30, so our “late lunch” is now at 4:00, too early for dinner and too late for lunch. Maybe we’ll just have appetizers.

I wasn’t very clear. I got the migraine BEFORE I got the shot.

That’s the spirit! Make her your minion! Make them ALL your minions! :person_with_crown:

Tortelloni are bigger. Think of the O as standing for “oversized.”

Rain is spray that’s too big and will drown us all! At least, that’s what I think Buster said.

I think I told this before, but when a friend’s son lost his first tooth, her mom begged to act as tooth fairy and leave him the going rate of $1. She took her wallet, tiptoed into his room, and came out beaming. The next morning, little Justin ran out of his room yelling, “Wow! The tooth fairy left me TEN DOLLARS!” My friend said with the next tooth, the tooth fairy was going to look like a cheapskate.

I did the same thing for a second. I blame it on the black in “black pudding” being too close to the back in back bacon."

You obviously live so close to Canada that you’re turning Canadian. Not that that’s a bad thing.
