(Old) Happy National Shrimp Scampi Day in the MMP!

if you take off the blanket, you will anger the weather, then there will be a cold snap.

i wait until may 30th to put away the last of the winter stuff. there will be a few 30 degree nights here and there.

Maybe he was scared up the tree by a small raccoon that soneone saw.

Good morning, all.

Yesterday I stewed some cubes of pork shoulder until they were tender, and put them in the fridge overnight. Today I de-seeded, toasted, soaked, pureed and cooked red guajillo chiles into a luscious red chile sauce. At lunchtime today, I’ll combine the two with an additional spice or two to make a red chile pork stew, which we’ll eat with pinto beans and toasted corn tortillas. Looking forward to it! My watching of various abuelas on youtube has taught me much about making Mexican food.

Now I’m off to Home Goods to see if I can find a framed print to replace a very dated, dark one we have in the living room. This current one was all the rage back in the early 2000s (little French bistro on a corner in a stone village), but now I hate it and want to replace it with something light and airy. Maybe Home Goods will have something.

Down here it’s usually May 1st when I take off the ‘thick’ comforter of my bed and put on the ‘light’ comforter for the summer months, along with stowing the room heater. Mowage starts in March but the real sign of the changeover is when the comforters are changed.

But you are absolutely right, it is not nice to fool with Mother Nature (bonus points for understanding that reference…).

lucky, sounds yummy. Happy shopping.

FCM, everybody is comfortable with something; usually it’s something no one else likes…

doggio, your work sounds more like a Susan Ivanova quote: “Sooner or later, BOOM!”

Shopping is done (weiners, dishwasher cleaner, and Monday NY Times…eclectic am I). Sammich has been consumed (may have to look around, the Jersey Mike’s I go to has become less efficient since several ‘old-timers’ left and there is a new one closer to my house). Off to do my backstroking in an hour or so, then soccer at 5:30pm

Not low stress. I am still being threatened with eviction even though I sent them my workaday account saying I was terminated, they wont accept that.

I have been trying to get on here for two full days. On Saturday, I had a nice, long post with lots of replies in it, but I did it over several hours, so Discourse wouldn’t send it. I copied it but somehow managed to delete it before posting. So yesterday I made sure to write in one session and more swiftly, and STILL Discourse wouldn’t send it. No explanation, either.

So this is a test. This is only a test.

This concludes the test of the Nellie Broadcast System.

I decided to take advantage of the sunshine and warmth - I now have a clean car. I can’t recall the last time I actually washed it myself - I tend to go to the drive-thru places to get the big crud knocked off. The wheels are still kinda gross - I wasn’t going to detail them, but the worst of the dirt is off the vehicle, so go me!!

Time for chillage, methinks.

ETA - I’m hoping we can swing sending Roxy here for summer. It’s held at the same Montessori school that she attended and where Tobias is going. It looks like an amazing program! Just need to scrape together $3K…

i understand that reference!

A dear, sweet old friend of mine is supposed to be going to rehab today for alcoholism. I haven’t heard anything all day from either him or his daughter who is taking him and it’s making me nervous. I hope all is well with them.

Heya, kids. <3²

Very rainy weekend, I’m very much enjoying the weather. Everything’s getting green so fast. The big tree right outside my den/workroom glass door is suddenly covered in vivid moss. There’s a big fat squirrel who seems to live in it, he’s a near-daily visitor. Junior’s been watching him like - well, like a cat, I suppose. Speaking of whom, Junior’s doing so much better. Pretty sure we’ve got the diet and insulin dialed in. He’s got lots more energy and he’s put weight back on. My ex sent me a picture they found of him as a kitten this morning, so I had a good long cry about that - the picture is nearly ten years old.

Work’s great, my boss seems to think I walk on water and my team seem happy to have me - which is good. While I’m nominally the manager, my team members have all the actual know-how and expertise, so it’s important that they feel I’m actually contributing and not just a useless layer of bureaucracy.

Taxes were brutal. Owe a ton, just like last year, due to continued entanglement with my ex. I have Sorted That Out such that it will not happen again next year, but… Yeah. Still a big bill to handle now. Genuinely not sure how I’m gonna manage. Debt’s snowballed, barely keeping up with payments on things. I’ll hang in there for a couple years by hook or crook and hope my career keeps advancing fast enough to finally get me ahead of the curve, I suppose.

I live two miles from a movie theater now, which is awesome - I love long walks and I love the movies. Gonna try to make it a habit of getting down there for a matinee any weekend I can. Weekly D&D with my pals back home continues to be the thing that keeps me going on a longer scale. Figure if I lived out of my car and mooched wifi from a starbucks, I could still at least do D&D! We had an actual dragon fight a couple weeks ago. I honestly don’t think that in all the years I’ve played I’d ever actually fought a dragon. Was pretty dang cool, and the perfect kind of skin-of-teeth victory that feels the most satisfying.

I think that’s about it. Love y’all lots. <3²

Probably a good idea to get something like that far enough in advance to test it and make sure there aren’t any surprise side effect issues. Would not be good to find out during that long a trip that he has an odd reaction to it and it makes him hyper or something.

My hairdresser aka BF does expediting so she hasn’t been available to do my hair for awhile. She said she could come over this evening. I said she is welcome to have dinner with us (chicken, mashed potatoes and veggies).

Did a boatload of dishes this morning and need to wash more this afternoon. But going to take a shower first.

Watched Rafa win his 3rd round match against a young Argentinian. Yay! Vamos Rafa!

Hubs informed me that he’s been experiencing diahrea which started this weekend. I asked if he was going to call the Dr. Not much of a response and didn’t seem like he was going to. He was going to wait until we went for the weekly check-in on Th. So, I kind of lit in to him and asked him if he wanted the same situation as in December when he didn’t share info with the Stem Cell Transplant Team on a timely basis and when we went for a checkup just 2 days before he was scheduled to go into the hospital, the Dr was incredulous that he hadn’t mentioned his issue the prior week and it ended up that he had C-diff and the transplant had to be postponed by 4 weeks. So, he called. They think it’s because they had him up the magnesium pills. So, said to stop them immediately and I have to give him an infusion tomorrow. Hope this is the correct solution.

Some exciting news unworthy of creating a thread.

I’ve been invited to join a semi-pro choir. So that’s cool and nice boost ye olde singing confidence.

And I’m going to be scoring a short film! That’s super exciting too!

When I had cats, I would take my social butterfly one to a local nursing home to visit with residents. The folks there absolutely loved it. When Mom was in the nursing home, Sis and I would take Mom’s dog and Sis’s dog Frankie (Nelson’s father and Mom’s dog Gracie’s son) to see her. The puppers were popular with just about anyone who saw us in the hall.

Irked, came home, took Nelson out, then gave him some birthday treats. Hard to believe the little booger is seven years old already.

I got an unexpected package in the mail today. Most of the writing on it was Chinese (I presume, given the return address) and it was two bottles of a blue liquid. They are now ensconced in the dumpster.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! We were indeed most slothful today as is our wont. Lovely weather and all to boot. My biggest effort was draggin’ the biiiiiiig trash can all the way back up the driveway to where it stays durin’ the week after it was emptied today. Sup got cooked and et. Now 'tis time for Netflix and chill. Also popcorn and ice cream. Not together though. Popcorn first and then ice cream later. I am not completely uncouth, after all!

BooFae 22c/75f would be considered to be a very cool Summer’s day here in the southeastern U.S.ofA. Actually it might be considered a cool Summer’s day for much of the US.

WetOne I now envision and shudder at the idea of McScampi.

**Sticky_Buns, yep. Time to go to the sto’ for sure!

Pilot welcome back to the fold! Glad you made the decisions on the new digs and the divorce from HL is almost done. Hooray for the new lady friend whatever it turns out to be. It’s good to have fun with someone.

Coppertone peanut butter on apple or banana works well. I do that as a snack from time to time.

MOOOOOOM I am sure a house of ill repute or a drag bar would have loved that chandelier. I know some folks who had these two hyuuuuuuge lamps that were half-nekkid ladies with greenish lookin’ robes sorta draped around 'em. That chandelier and those lamps would have been tres chic together.

lucky that stew sounds soooooo nummy!

Metal_Mouse always loved that commercial.

Nellie sounds like TVCTPMO was workin’ overtime this weekend for you.

Cat_Glove if the dinner is in exchange for gettin’ your do did, then it’s a win-win all around. I can see the magnesium pills makin’ hubs want to go a bunch. Milk of magnesia does the trick when I get umm… stopped up.

Beep good news indeed!

Niner glad Junior is so much better. Also glad you are rockin’ the new gig. Of course, we all knew you would.

That is fantastic! Well done you!

Hey y’all. I was absent last week. GI troubles no-one wants to hear about. Couple of days/nights I didn’t get off the couch except for the hourly trips to the loo.

Feeling much better now. One the plus side, the boat project is finally coming to fruition. The president of the board at the museum told me we’re going forward! So yay!

First mowage semi-achieved. My riding mower said no, so the walk behind said ok, we’ll do it. Then a damn vine reached down and pulled a vital spring off of the side of the motor, and I can’t figure out where it goes. Very nice next door mom happened to be out mowing her lawn, and saw I was floundering and came over and finished what I hadn’t gotten done.

I now have 4 un working mowers in the garage. Huzzah.

After the stressful (and very expensive for Mrs. L.A.) Saturday, the Spousal Unit wanted to go out for dinner tonight. We went down the beach to Bay Breeze, and I decided to try the halibut ceviche. It was… good. But there was barely any fish, and a whole lot of avocado. I told the server that with ceviche, the fish should be the headliner. The avocado totally overpowered what little fish there was. (And wifey said it tasted too much of onions.) The Fresh Greens I also ordered were tasty and filling. My Manhattans were also tasty.

Evening all. A Freddy’s double steakburger and fries has just been assimilated after soccer practice concluded about 6:40pm. Rain is due in the next hour or so and is supposed to continue most of the night and early morning, so Tuesday practice is in doubt. Still warm (72F) but the rain will cool us down some tomorrow.

Coppertone, hope the powers-that-be do the reading and treat you right.

FCM, haven’t washed my car in many years, we have so many drive-thru car washes around here (I can think of 5 within a 4-mile radius of my house and I’m probably missing a couple) that I just default to them. And hope the budget works out for Roxy, sounds like quite a nice deal. Might have to pick-and-choose.

rocky, swampy, nice to know some old geezer references are still understood…albeit by other old geezers, but still… And rocky, I understood that reference about understanding that reference…

Sticky Buns, best wishes for your old friend, I hope they can get the help they need.

Niner!! Good to see you around the MMP. Glad Junior is doing well, even if he isn’t going squirrel hunting. And nice to hear work is going well, even if taxes are not your friend. And I pity the dragon that run across you and your group…Llllllleeeerooyyyy Jenkins!!!

Cat Glove, hope the hair date works out. And keep after hubs, men do tend to put things off (I know because I iz one…)

Roadrunner (BeepKillBeep), that’s great news on two counts. Go for it and keep us advised.

VanGo, guess you lived up to part of your Mumper name, then… Glad the project is going to happen for you.

OK, need to do some paperirk and plan tomorrow, so have a good night/morning all and see you on 2sDay.
