(Old) Happy National Shrimp Scampi Day in the MMP!

I’d planned to post earlier, but I had to finish excerpting an article from a medical journal and translating it from medicalese to English for my sister-in-law. Did I mention that one of her docs told her her eye is “dying”? Anyway, a while back I found an article that sounded a lot like what she’s going through, pain-wise. Docs have been little help in that regard and just keep writing scrips. So I made it SIL-friendly and sent it to her. She called me today to say it’s dead on, and she’s SO relieved to have something that accurately explains what she’s experiencing. I don’t know if she has this condition, but I figured it might help docs understand what she’s going through, as right now they’re not taking her seriously. The article says this reaction is common, as few docs know about this condition.

I couldn’t even get to the gym but did walk to the store. When a gal needs yogurt, she needs yogurt! I used to love Yoplait;s white chocolate and raspberry yogurt, but they discontinued it.

A friend owed me $25 for flowers for a mutual friend’s B-Day. She sent me a check for 4 times that and refuses to take back the extra. I don’t want to take it. I told her her friendship is reward enough, but she’s not budging. Maybe I’ll donate it somewhere.

Wow! Cool!

Even cooler! Congrats!

If I hadn’t admired you already, this would have done it. I LOVE this! Two days a week, someone brought old, chill dogs to my mom’s retirement home, and people loved it. Are you familiar with Atul Gwande? He’s an MD who’s written for The New Yorker and published some books. Anyway, he talks about the benefits to the elderly of pets and of having a pet to look after, and it’s amazing. Have you ever taken Nelson?

:notes:Happy Birthday to Nelson!

Well, thank heavens for that. It sounds miserable and lonely. And you have a wonderful neighbor!

Up from naptime, and a couple of cat stampedes. Having an Old Fashoned and bacon cheeseburger with fires.

For a second I read that as “Home Gods”

Eek.

Same! And glad Junior’s doing better.

Meth? The Water of Life? Knockoff Windex?

Congrats on becoming the Mumper John Williams!

Glad you feel better VanGo

A quick update before bed …

Spent some more money on kitchenware and shelving, but now the spending is 99% done. Managed to repack my multifarious purchases of the last 20 weeks into a move-able form. The rest will arrive and be re-packed before the move commencing in 10 days.

Roomie Mike and I had a hefty and well-lubricated dinner out, followed by stogies & drinks by the pool. Which is wrapping up now.

Set up a 4-day weekend sex-fest w BB in a different swanky beachfront Miami resort for this upcoming weekend. The following weekend she’ll be doing Mother’s Day w her aged firecracker of a Mom and I’ll be putting away all the new toys in my new place. The weekend after that she’s definitely joining me at my place to christen my pad in truly overwhelming style.

I’ll follow up w all y’alls’ posts tomorrow. Kinda hard to type (or think) in my current condition.

Still being threatened with eviction.
But on a bright note, my friend from church, who got me the toilet paper, took me to Walmart and bought me, razors, 20 oz shampoo and conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, chapstick, 10 pack of Lever 2000 soap, shave gel( no, I do not stink), bowls, chapstick, and Biotin.
Wow.

I’m so sorry. Tapas work too!

GG also loves the red dot, but it’s the car ride I’m worried about.

Drugs will happen, of course, and I will share with GG but he is a horrible traveler and has very powerful lungs :frowning:

That’s just not fair. It’s like being on vacation, you should not come back to overflowing inboxes.

Thank you for the suggestion, I have ordered one for him. How do they work for humans? I might need one myself.

Thanks for the recipe! I love the simple ones

Long John Silvers? I haven’t been to one in years, but I seem to remember they had it. I don’t remember liking it, though.

Yes, off with you!!!

I’m excited. While we both would like to not see our neighbors, we are getting slightly too old to live an hour away from medical treatment. (Hubs only has four years left on his bypass and that’s not guaranteed.) We will be on city sewer and water which will be nice. I was feeling rather nervous about being on a well.

I’ve been in contact with the local rescue groups in Logan county and am fairly sure that I will have no problems finding GG a companion. Which needs to happen soon, he really is missing VBC a bunch.

More for me!!!

Actually, I always think that people who don’t like seafood have never eaten properly cooked seafood. It is soooooo easy to turn a nice piece of salmon into leather and greasy fried cod is pretty nasty too.

Well, he did get the clip which meant he was trappable. Was that smart, or not smart?

Have you got the trick of making your own tortillas yet? I watch the local mamacitas make them and it just looks so easy, but when I try them they are not easy at all.

(I’m sorry you went through all that bother and expense to not be able to move after all. Fingers crossed that you do find the right place soon.)

I have never hand-washed a car since I met Hubs. After we moved here, he always took our 4-wheeled vehicles to a car wash because it was more water efficient. I very rarely take my car through the car wash either, I’m pretty spoiled when it comes to taking care of my cars.

Loves you right back! Thanks for checking in and wow, what a cute kitten pic! I’m glad Junior is feeling better and that you are feeling more confident about his continued good health.

Thanks for the reminder! We both want to be sure that whatever we do with GG happens with a trusted vet less than half an hour away. Hopefully we will be able to dose him to sleeping the drive away.

Aren’t you going to be happy when he is well enough for you to be able to kill him? I honestly do know how frustrating that is.

Whoooo! Dude, you rock!!!

Oh hurray! Don’t forget us little people when you make it big in the movie business!

I’m so glad about that. Great about the boat project, money is always good.

It was very nice of the next door lady to finish mowing your lawn for you. Can you maybe use the 4 borked mowers to make one usable one?

I never argue with friends over money. I get payback. Does your friend have a pet? Chewie will deliver to her door and nobody turns down pet supplies.

That’s how I treated TC friend when she undercharged us for petsitting. A hundred pounds of cat litter on the door step does get noticed, LOL! (it was in 10 lb bags, I might be a jerk, but I’m not a JERK)

Speaking of her, she bought our chest freezer many months ago and still hasn’t picked it up. It is fully paid for and is out of our way so I haven’t really been nagging, but she now has a deadline and is panicking.

So, tonight we did have Shrimp Scampi and it was very yum. I’m kinda bummed, I am finally learning how to use my new stove and will have to start over again in June. And then again after this place sells and we replace the fridge and cook top in the new place. And probably the oven as well.

I took my phones and handed them over to the nice folks at the Ubrokeit place. I was honestly horrified about insecure I was about not being connected. I used to feel that way when I left my cigs at home while making a quick trip to the store. I wasn’t going to need them, but what if something happened and I did need them?!?!

Hubs has his mountain bikes up for sale now and has 5 non-scammy interested folks. He’s done nothing as far as going through his sheds or selling his Harley. I have the feeling that GG and I will be making the choice of our new family member without Hubs because if he doesn’t get his ass in gear, he will be here for months.

Which wouldn’t be a really bad thing, I need to learn the roads and can’t do it if Hubs is always driving us around.

not in the Mitten. 75f would be kind of a Baby Bear day; not too hot, not too cold, just right.

Dinner was in addition to what I gave her in green paper. Her husband is a lot worse off than Hubs so I thought some dinner that she didn’t have to make would be appreciated and it definitely was. She kept saying how good it was.

does that mean this coming Sunday is Orthodox Easter? Cause if so, I need to wish a friend ‘Christos anesti!’ I thought I might have missed it.

Since tomorrow is last working day of month, I’ll need to get up early and go in to the office. So, good night, see you all on the morrow, likely in the pm.

Yes, may 5th is pascha. Do tell your friend, she will be happy you remembered.

I am at present trying to scoop up any remaining bits and bobs of very discounted candy.

rocky Thank you, I’ve set a reminder on my phone.

JtC yeppers

Happy Moonday!

It’s hot outside, it was 90 degrees today.
A few days ago, we left the park early because I was freezing even in a coat, hat, and gloves.

The farmers have been busy around here. I don’t know what they are all doing, except for the fertilizing. Can’t miss that smell. They are out there after 9pm, and I had no idea tractors could go that fast.

I got the cortisone shot last weel. They lied about it hurting. I apologized for yelling, but I was told I did well. Some people yell so loud you can hear it in the waiting room.
At least the pain was only for a few seconds, but when the cortisone hit the nerve, it burned the entire length of the nerve, from my spine down to my toes.
The pain still comes and goes. I have been able to cut back on the pain meds a bit, and I am walking better. According to the paperirk, it can take up to two weeks to work.
I have to go back next Moonday for some other kind of shot. Then two weeks after that. Then two weeks after that I am getting some kind of shot that will kill off the nerves that are causing me pain.
Who knows how bad that will hurt?

I have been sleeping a lot. I guess all the nights of only 2-3 hours of sleep are catching up with me, and now that the pain has eased a bit, I am getting some sleep.
I was beating myself up over sleeping so much and the house is a mess. Then I thought, I probably need it, so go with the flow.
It’s made it hard to keep up on here as I tend to fall asleep when I sit down and start to read.

My aunt died last night. It was expected, but still sad. She and my son shared a birthday. The last time I talked with her, she sounded pretty bad. I wanted to call my cousin to ask her about it, but didn’t. My aunt was a lot worse than she let on, but she is out of pain now.
My cousin said her passing was a blessing.
I doubt I will go to the funeral and my cousin said she is okay with it.
I’m not sure how my back will handle the 90-minute drive and a lot of walking.
The church is in Baltimore and there is no parking lot. You have to park on the street and when I went to my cousin’s funeral, I drove around for over a half hour and couldn’t find a spot within three blocks in any direction. It’s a not so nice part of town, so you don’t want to get too far from the church.

Shrimp sounds good. I have some in the freezer and I heard you can make it in the air fryer. I really like the air fryer, no fuss, no muss, no clean up, just set it and forget it until the timer goes off.
I like shrimp, crab, lobster, and sometimes fish, but the rest of the seafood is a big no. My ex Wayne-the-Pain liked to fish and cook up what he caught. Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel were good, sun fish?, not so much. I can’t remember the other kinds he caught, but I wasn’t too impressed by them either.
He used to put out crab pots for me, but I went to see him on weekends, and we all know how crabs are too smart to get into the pots on weekends ;). Minnows never got caught in the traps on weekends either.
Who knew that our water dwelling friends were so smart?

I need to try to catch up with y’all.
Lots of reading to do.

I know there are time zones, but where are you that it’s August?

Not any more. She used to, but she has terrible rheumatoid arthritis. Despite having her feet and hands largely rebuilt at Mayo, her feet are so twisted, her insteps are perpendicular to the floor. She just can’t handle pets now. :frowning: But thanks for the suggestion. It’s got me thinking about what else I could get her. It’d be fun to send her cards and little gifts at random.

Is your stove in the new place gas or electric?

I read this as “when I left my pigs at home.” I had a swift vision of a piglet in the shopping cart seat and another in the basket looking eagerly for the slop aisle. When do you get your phone back?

Sari, I’m so aorry about your aunt.

Oh, that poor woman, she must be in constant pain.

I think that’s an awesome idea! Payback can be a whole lot of fun if you do it right

New stove is electric. I would really like a gas stove but the only place we looked at with gas were out in the country and had big propane tanks under the house. That made me kinda go eek, but some of them were over 50 years old and hadn’t blown up so I dunno.

Our current stove (bought less than six months ago) heats faster than I’m used to and I can see the results on my hands. I almost always have the typical bakers burns on my wrists, now I’m getting the tops on my hands as well.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

A FB meomory from 14 years popped up: I got a BSOD and the truck driver may have been deported. Is it Beer O’clock yet?

If it was in one box, you delivery driver still glares at you when they drive by.(plus every supply shipper always over boxes their stuff. I glare at them).

Sorry about your aunt, sari. but don’t feel about about the sleep. the clutter will still be there, resting can’t wait.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/51f with a predicted high of 16c/61f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s overcast from where you’re fucking sitting, but if you were in a fucking plane, you could say that it’s undercast.” Fair enough…it’s cloudy but there’s a bit of brightness in the sky. It was chilly earlier when I went out to haul the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s recycling collection. The idiots next door haven’t put their bin out yet, they’d better hurry up!

sari I’m sorry about your aunt, I am sure the family will understand if you’re not able to make the trip to the funeral. You need to prioritise your own health and if that journey is going to be physically painful and stressful then you shouldn’t even think about it. Good to hear you’re getting more sleep though, you need that much more than you need to tidy up

nellie your friend is lucky to have such a considerate friend in you, random cards and gifts sounds like a fabulous way to cheer her up.

Beeper that’s really exciting news about the choir and the movie score!

JtC 'im indoors makes his own tortillas, he’s also spent a lot of time watching YouTube videos and I try to make sure he gets plenty of practice

I ended up having a busier day than expected yesterday, irk threw me some odd things to fix so that kept me busy until the end of the day. Then I decided to do a Rockfit session and found one of this month’s classes that had a bunch of songs I like so I did that, then ironed a couple of things (no, still haven’t got a tumble dryer), and it was my turn to make dinner.

I’ve got two meetings today so I need to get myself ready for those, got a bit of prep work to do for both of them. Tonight is grocery night so we’ll be off to the Gettin’ Sto’ to see what they haven’t got. There’s always something that they’re missing whch means I have to send 'im indoors into the other supermarket that’s conveniently next to his gym.

He’s talking about moving to a different gym too, the one he goes to isn’t very well managed and there’s a lot of equipment that needs fixing. He asked about one that I used to go to so I’ve got him a free pass to try that one as I know the manager there. He isn’t interested in trying the place I go to, I think it’s a bit too far away for him since he doesn’t drive so it needs to be within cycling/walking distance.

Right, I’ve had breakfast, the cats have been tended to, it’s time to get another cuppa and get on with “stuff”.

I couldn’t figure out why around 2 o clock pm as we were leaving my uncle’s appointment it smelled like a wood BBQ where you’d find someone in an alley burning throughout most of town and found out we had this bit o excitement today :

Now this is about 50 miles or so from us in the boonies well further out of the boonies than we are anyways …

And its projected this is the first of many because the desert bloomed because of the rain and its all drying out to its normal crispiness right now …and pilot… lucky you is all i can say … i’ve known someone like that for a couple of weeks but found out I was being used for revenge against her jerk of a BF so it didn’t last …

My early morning eyeballs read that as “old, chili dogs and I thought, EEW!

I’m sorry to hear about your aunt, Sari.

I’m up about the usual time. I feel kind of weird this morning. Part of it is the usual BMS nonsense. I just had a Wafer Roll from Aldi’s and it tasted faintly sweet, but not really like chocolate.

My friend has made it to rehab as far as I know. I heard from his daughter last night, but she hadn’t had the time yet to give me the final details yet.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 65 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 82 and partly N.O.S. Today is laundry day. Be still my heart. Of course the usual sloth and so forth are scheduled. Sup shall be tacos 'n fixin’s with refried beans and rice. Fartfest to follow.

VanGo sorry for your woes last week and for the mower woes. Yay on the project movin’ forward!

sari hope the shot continues to work and lessen the pain. Sorry about your aunt.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

We have one of those near us - hope I never need them, but it’s nice to know they’re there.

Another day in the 80s promised here. I’m hoping to go get the topsoil for my veggie bed. FCD will head to the marina for a while - he’s installing stuff on the flybridge and getting ready to pull more wires. He also stripped the bed for me, so I can launder the sheets and electric blankie, then put it away for the season.

We slept with the windows open for the first time in months - it was nice! I loves me some fresh air.

And that’s how April ends. Happy Tuesday!

One of the car wash chains here talked me into an “unlimited wash” program for a few dollars a month. I have a sticker with a bar code on the inside of my windshield. I run my truck through the wash almost every time I drive it. I don’t think they realized that I took the “unlimited” part as seriously as I did.

Good morning!

It’s 41 degrees Fahrenheit and cloudy outside. Steady rain will move in shortly and continue all morning. The afternoon will consist of rain showers, and the high temperature is expected to be 52 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yesterday’s commute to the office was pretty soggy. There was a torrential downpour and standing water on the highway and freeway.

VanGo, yay for more work! I am sorry that you were ill, though.

Sari, I hope you’re on your way to being pain-free. I am sorry about your aunt.

boofae, 75 degrees is about my upper limit regarding heat. But, I mostly grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where that used to be the normal summer temperature here on the West side of the state, with very few days above that. Now, it’s more common to see temps in the 80s and 90s in the summer, and I’m not a fan.

I have always been picky about my seafood, mainly because I could catch it fresh if I wanted and just have a hard time trusting fish in the store. However, I don’t eat salmon anymore. I was forced to eat way too much of that growing up, and I’m just sick of it overall. I occasionally purchase Copper River salmon and put it on the grill, but it’s been a minute since I’ve done that, too. The last few years, they were just too proud of it, and I wasn’t willing to spend the money.

roadrunner, what great news! Congratulations!

niner, so nice to see you again. I’m glad Junior is doing better!

pilot, it appears you’re enjoying your new life immensely.

nellie, you are a wonderful friend and sister-in-law.

Yesterday was full of stuff. I knew something was up when Haggen was out of my favorite yogurt. Hopefully, there will be more tomorrow so that I can pick some up. Work was insane, but I worked, came home, and worked some more. Being out of my favorite yogurt isn’t the end of the world, but when they are, it seems like a harbinger of a difficult day ahead.

There isn’t much going on here in taterland besides work and growing puppies. My husband’s CPAP/BIPAP is giving him fits (it keeps shutting off), so I guess we’re going to have to see about getting a new one. This one isn’t even that old, so I’m frustrated. Getting one is a hassle, especially since the Phillips recall and their inability to sell in the US anymore. There has been a shortage for a long time.

I have a space meeting today, and I’m not looking forward to it. I don’t like what they’re trying to do, but my agency isn’t the lead on the lease, and we have the least amount of space; therefore, the least amount of say. I am hopeful we can come to a solution we all like today. I will spend part of the morning reconfiguring space on paper without moving walls so that we can save money. To prevent change orders later, we’re designing spaces now, before we know who wins the bid for space. I don’t think we’ll get the place I prefer, which is disappointing.

Time to finish loading the dishwasher so I can run it. Take care!
