(Old) Happy National Shrimp Scampi Day in the MMP!

One of the drive-thru places here offers that, and apart from not being particularly convenient for me to use, I’d have to go more than once a week to break even (based on a single wash) - Sometimes I don’t even drive my car once a week! Ah, retirement! And I really don’t mind washing it myself - fresh air, sunshine, wet feet, rolling up 50’ of hose - what’s not to like!!

The electric blankie is in the washer. Sheets to follow. MIL is still asleep - she obviously ignored her 8AM alarm. I shall assume the read position as I wait for the washer to finish.

Home Goods did not have any framed prints I liked. I haven’t been shopping for framed pictures for the walls in many years. It’s looking like hardly anyone carries them anymore. What happened to Z Gallery? I tried to look up our local one, and they’re gone, replaced by a store selling cheapo trendy modern furniture.

I can shop online for a framed print, and order what frame and matting I like, but that’s getting spendy. Like, $300 or so. Yowtch! Or I can order a plain unframed print, take it to Michael’s and have them frame and mat it, but that’s also really expensive. Oh well I’ll figure something out. Maybe a scroll or other type of Asian hanging.

Yaay! That is super news, and the attitude in your last sentence is a lot of the reason why.

Ouch! Getting untangled as much as possible as soon as possible is key. Especially so if he’s irresponsible which it sounds like he is. If you ended up with penalties, there’s the “innocent spouse” process you can use to apportion those to him rather than sharing them 50/50. Beyond that, if you haven’t dealt with this before, the IRS is surprisingly reasonable about setting up a payment plan at a low interest rate. Definitely cheaper than letting a balance run on your credit cards while you’ve spent your free cashflow on taxes.

Tres cool. Your transition to pro musician is moving along.

Yaay indeed. Two yaays in fact.

JtC: Best of luck w GG and Hubs. Just be sure to give the tranquilizers to the correct patient.

Given this whole move was his idea, his lazy procrastinating approach so far seems odd, and is perhaps a sign of some deep-seated reluctance he’s not consciously aware of.

I admit I was surprised by the pix at your Zillow link to see the neighbors’ houses so close. Not your style at all. But everything else about the place looks ideal. And funny enough, the density of doctors, restaurants, and shopping is connected to the density of the housing. When everybody has their own private county, there’s not much commerce nearby.

Sari: congrats on the cortisone, as badly as it hurt, it’s gonna do a bunch of good. Sorry about your aunt. And yes, as doggio wisely says: sleep first and clean later.

I’ve got the same thing for my car at a full service wash place. It gets washed two-three times a week. More while I’m living with Mike and my car parks outside. At my prior & future places it lived / will live indoors which avoids most of the rain mess.

Back in St. Louis they had a chain of fully automated carwashes attached to convenience markets. But it was the full tunnel plus blower dry, not one of those cockamamie “drive in, stop, then the gantry moves back and forth over your car”. I timed it, and I could be driving past their store, pull in, get washed and dried, and be back on the road in 4 minutes flat never getting out of the car. The car got washed nearly every day in winter to keep the salt and grunge off it.

My current manual place is more like 15-20 minutes total. Fortunately, my days aren’t all that packed. Calvin and Hobbes Ref. Retirement is a lot like summer. But with a car and credit cards!

A couple years ago we had an interesting thread about the morality of using/over-using “unlimited [whatever]” programs like that. I can try to dig it up if anyone’s interested.

Taters: Fie on those nasty folks from the other agencies who don’t understand that you’re right and they’re wrong. And the cow-orkers trying to drive you nuts.

Teela: I recently bought a bunch of art from a local furniture store. You can do a lot of the looking online. Heck, for many furniture stores now you can even buy online.

For really cheap stuff, Target has a surprising selection of framed art for next to no money. I once bought a very nice framed print of the Greek Isles with the whitewashed buildings pouring down the cliff to the azure sea. IIRC about $25. I chose it because it was between 22-1/2" and 23" wide. Which was the size range necessary to hide my circuit breaker panel in the condo kitchen and still fit between two unmovable wall obstacles.

As to me: Lazy intermittently rainy morning here at 9am. NWS sez 73/23 on the way to 84/29. The rainy pattern has another 2-4 days to run, then it’s supposed to improve about the time we start beaching together this weekend. Then again, a rainy day isn’t the worst situation; with the right companion there’s always something to do indoors in a hotel. :rabbit: :rabbit2:

Now about to get clean and forage for sustenance.

Had a short yak earlier with BB as she was driving home from her difficult overnight shift in the trauma OR. At 4am they started repair work on a shark bite victim. The person was still being worked on when day shift took over 3 hours later. How in the hell one gets bitten by a shark and arrives at the trauma center at 4am is a mystery to me. Poor bastard; I hope they’ll come out OK-ish.

the midatlantic was in the upper 80’s and some hit 90 yest. today will be mid to high 80’s.

teelabrown, how 'bout ikea? they have some very nice “art”.

last night i went through and organized the “seasonal decor” bins. things are still a bit in flux as i have bits of painting to do in main living areas. i hope to get that done between church services this weekend. tradition is that all work must be done before the wee hours of the morning service on sunday (usually starts at 11pm and can go to 5am depending).

tonight is getting off season clothes and furniture organized. i am not testing mother nature and will still have 2 mid winter jackets out.

Maybe try a thrift store? There’s one near me that gets tons of them donated. I bought a few just for the frames.

MIL is up, driving me a bit crazy. She is constantly saying “if you ever want to go anywhere with FCD, I’ll be ok…” She says that almost daily and it takes all I have to not yell “I KNOW!!” She’s become so vague.

I need to go get dirt. Rah.

Morning all. Today is Laundry Day and Dishwasher Day so I have had the appliances working since about 8am. Second load of laundry is in the washer while the first is in the dryer, I also have a bottle of stuff that’s supposed to clean the innards of your dishwasher so I’ll probably run another cycle after the dishes are done and put away. Stormed a lot last night but clearing up now and temperatures should be about 80F, so soccer with the littles is a 50-50 bet, won’t know until 4pm when the Parks Department posts the status. So while I want to get gym time in, will have to see how it works out.

Oh, at the Moanday weigh-in I was at 218.6lbs, first time below 220lbs in who knows how long. 220 was my goal, now wondering if I should go for 210 (not anorexic, still eating 1800-2500 calories per day, just working out and soccer is burning them off faster and drinking diet soda has cut me back at least 2,000 calories/week). Just getting comfortable with the 42" pants and now may have to look at trying on 40". Ain’t healthy living wunnerful?

nellie, paying forward with your friend is a good thing. Do something that your friend will like hearing about.

Sari, I hope the temporary pain of the shots leads to long-term relief. And sorry to hear about your aunt.

Pilot, sounds like your in fine fettle; hope you can keep it up…   As for the shark bite victim, Wow, hope they make it but sounds like it must have been quite as story…

Coppertone, appendages crossed that things work out for you.

JtC, sounds like things are progressing, hope a solution to GG’s travel issues can be found.

doggio, like the old saying goes, it’s 5pm somewhere in the world…

shady, Yikes, glad the blaze is still distant, hope the fire season isn’t as bad as predicted.

swampy, as a fellow Laundry Day participant, best of luck. Looks like a 4 or 5 load day here.

Since my car still fits in my garage, I probably don’t wash it as often as other (or as often as I should), and with it crammed with soccer stuff cleaning the inside will have to wait until the season is over at the end of May. So that’s probably when I’ll go next.

Taters, hope the building space meeting comes up with an agreeable compromise.

FCM, here’s to getting dirty.

OK, sounds like load #2 is complete, so need to get load # 3 working here. Have a good 2sDay all.

Someone keeps making fraudulent charges on Amazon, using Mrs. L.A.'s Chase card. She doesn’t use that card. This has happened several times, and she’s had the card cancelled and replaced two or three times. She said she’s not going to get the card replaced again. She’ll just close the account.

My hypothesis: She has the card stored as an alternate payment method on Amazon. Someone stole her Amazon password and got the card information from there. Whenever she cancels the card, the thief just goes and gets the new information. Only… 1) Why doesn’t the thief use Mrs. L.A.'s Amazon card? 2. Mrs. L.A. might not have that card on her Amazon account – in which case, the information can’t be stolen from there.

I’m going to suggest that she does what she says and cancel Chase. I’ll tell her she needs to change her Amazon password. (She’s always forgetting passwords, so I’ll suggest she write it down as she doesn’t have Keychain Access.) And I’ll suggest that she pull her credit reports.

Holy crap Pilot, you’ve been having Adventures! Adventures of the very best kind, it sounds like. That’s all so fantastic, I’m so happy for you. It’s so cool to have a partner who matches up nicely with what you want and need, with how you operate. You’ll have to show off the new place once it’s 100% inside!

Yeah, no, it’s not their fault - or at least, equal parts. When I moved away and got my job at the college, I still kind of hoped that things would work out between us someday, so I put ‘married’ on my withholding. Then later after last year’s tax debacle, I assumed that we’d be filing jointly again this year… Which was a dumb assumption. They adjusted their withholding accordingly and planned to file singly. They didn’t tell me, but I didn’t ask. It’s entirely down to avoiding communication for pain-avoidance reasons on my part. I’m set up for withholding at the single rate now, so next year will be fine. And yeah, I’m no stranger to IRS payment plans, that’s all set up. Just another rough monthly bill to handle. Such is life.

A good thing, though: I set up an HSA with my new job! So I have safe money for medical stuff, and I got new glasses for the first time in a couple years! I… Don’t like them as much as my old ones, so I sent those frames out for new lenses, too, and I’m wearing the new ones in the meantime. My pals were shocked, I’ve been wearing the same frames for over five years. When they started wearing out, I just tracked down an identical pair of frames online and swapped the lenses - that’s how much I like them! The new ones are just-ok, but it’s awesome to have A: a current prescription and B: a backup pair.

This is 100% my guess too. Because Amazon integrates with so many other web services, it’s reeeaally easy for that account to be compromised.

great specs, and love the lippy! great colour!

you are in my colour pallet, i’m less red than you. blue, green, black, grey. makes shopping easy.

It turns out that the purchases were all hers. She doesn’t know why she’s paying with that card. She thought the charges were going on her Amazon card.

So crisis resolve. She’s still going to change her password. I hope she pulls her credit reports.

So of course both SSLAWs went down. And they were short loaders on the 300 North, so I had to run a ton of stuff around from the 300 Slide on a cart. And the Early A.M. Air may have not gone out early. And since this is The Gangster Of Love’s circus and monkeys, I’m sure he’ll be washing down a half dozen Tums with a quart of Aristocrat vodka after this. The post FUBAR Aldi run went fine. But Spot had a morning. First, I dropped a fork on the floor when I was unloading the dishwasher, and he warily inspected the silver pointy demon that appeared on his kitchen floor. Which was the exact moment that the pack of Aldi bagels rolled off the microwave and plopped behind him. Much yowling and zoomie-ing ensued. Poor guy’s probably got schear-aphobia now.

Late night skinny dipping, ala Jaws

Looks good!

Me too! I like the frame shape on yours.

I had to rip the My First Bifocals ™ off my face at work the other day. Thank gawd I had the other new glasses in my purse - the line on the bifocals exactly lined up with the work counter, and every time I moved my head I felt like I was on a boat rocking in a storm.

I think imma stick with the non-bifocals for now.

Oh! G.C. came over, for the first time in ages, so I’m unsurprisingly in a far better mood today. He came during daylight which is exceedingly rare (it’s usually a couple of hours in the middle of the night) so we hit the dispo on their last day of a big sale (he was so tickled that they have a drive-through, which would have been even cuter if I hadn’t had the same reaction the 1st time I used it!) and he got us McDonald’s so technically it was a dinner date LOL.

I have an appointment on Friday to get my behemoth of a fridge removed. Pisses me off that the window is 1-5 on a Friday, when I’m supposed to be at work at 3.
Already texted S.M. with a screenshot. Will I be late? Will they even be able to get the thing out? Who knows?

What else? I have more lid clips coming from Amazon soon (along with a rainbow tie-dye bandana I’ve been wanting for a while) but in the meantime, there’s a basket of (clean, thankyouverymuch) laundry & a copy of Grey’s Anatomy on top of Charm’s tank, and some assorted pots, including a cast iron Dutch oven, on one of the rattie tanks (they’re the heaviest objects I could find on short notice) so that’s my domestic life now.

We got tons of rain, and my sweet pea seedlings are coming up already, plus the sprouted pantry onions I tucked in are poking through.
Nasturtium should be next … I can’t wait for those cuty lily pad leaves!

Look, I am sure this has happened to other folks, but I’m in a state of shock right now.

A couple I knew at the church I was at before the current one has been assaulted by their son. The father is dead, stabbed dozens of times, and his wife, whom I worked with in teaching Sunday school, is gravely injured too, along with one other person who is not in as much danger. The son isi n custody. I don’t remember meeting him, although he may have been at the church.

I am hoping for the recovery of the wife, she has been very active in the community, her church, and the library. I may send card or flowers to her, if I can find out if they are allowed in the hospital. She’s probably in the ICU, given how many times she was stabbed.

I know one never knows what people are like but this sounds really hateful. Even if the couple were not as nice as outsiders think, why can’t a person just walk away? The son is in his upper thirties, not like he was a dependent minor.

poor spot. i hope he doesn’t develop kitchen trauma.

whoa! that is shake your core news. poor woman, her life is so broken now even if she physically recovers.

Here’s what dirty, and sweaty, hath wrought:

Once the beds are in the shade, I’ll dump some miracle grow in there and soak them down. It took almost a ton of topsoil to fill out both beds. I still need to clean the remnants from the truck. Maybe later, maybe tomorrow.

If you told what this means, I’ve forgotten - do tell please!

How horrific!! Almost impossible to wrap one’s head around such a thing…

After all the sweaty yard work, I’m going to indulge in some chillage. I think I’ve earned it.

I have my new permanent crown. Time to try it out on a hatch chile-and-provolone burger. I have a periodontist on Thursday.

I got some bone-in pork chops from the Buy It Before It Rots bin at the supermarket. I’ll make them for dinner.

Don’t bite down on the bone!

Not much to say today; less than usual, even. The wife’s niece is coming over after her shift at the ER, and we’ll head out for some chow. Other than that, it’s a slow day in Lake Wobegon.
