[OLD] Have As Good A New Monday MMP As Possible

Stoopid garage door won’t close. It went through this a few weeks ago, then it fixed itself but not enough apparently. The garage door guy will be out in about an hour. Hope this doesn’t cost a fortune. Everything except the door itself was replaced about 6 years ago.

Yep, that’s what happened here in Wisconsin too. I did notice there weren’t any peanuts anywhere when we came back after the plague but thought nothing of it. I’m sure the lack of peanuts is a lot easier on the cleaning crew too.

Daughter’s vehicle is in the hands of our car guy. SIL has taken Tobias home. I’m having a quick lunch before grabbing a rake.

Whew!

I’ve been semi successful in getting some things done. I made rice for Hubby’s lunch (the rice cooler was the best gift I’ve ever gotten him). Got BtY to school, got some reading done and finished making the Peanut butter eggs. It’s the first time I’ve used chocolate coating on anything and I didn’t do a horrible job. I had one that had kinda stuck on two others and broke in such a way that they’re was quite a bit of peanut butter showing so that was my taste test. It came out pretty tasty, if I do say so myself.

Now I’m just waiting for about 30 minutes to join my friend for lunch. Today will be a good day even if I have to wrestle it into submission.

I think it’s both-with a furrowed, worried brow throw in, with a fierce glare for good measure.

Ready to have as good a day as possible. Since everyone on my team is traveling, it should be doable. I got up, waddled a good bit, showered so as to look presentable on camera for a few meetings later and am seeing my team tonight. All I gotta do is slap on some shellack, aka makeup, and a nicer shirt.

We’ve got an offsite almost all week (or on-site since it’s in our office that no one goes to anymore because everyone’s virtual and spread across the country), complete with day-long meetings and team building exercises and dinners. The first dinner is this evening and meetings start tomorrow.

I’m grateful to live in the area. Most of my co-workers get absolutely smashed every time they travel. That or they fake it really, really well. Going home means I don’t feel any pressure to stay in the hotel bar until 2 a.m., drinking. And the best part is getting to home at night to my family and my bed. Amazing how adults put so much pressure on other adults to drink; I don’t recall feeling encouraged to binge drink when I was a teenager. I don’t like lying, but I have no problems telling people my club soda is a vodka soda.

Anyway, off to heave. And pretend to work.

And of course I got barely 2 carts of leaves dumped before the rain started. Dammit. According to weather.com it’s passing thru fast, so I guess I’ll be able to get out there again in a little bit. I left everything but my gloves.

We shall see…

This was something I hated about being a navy officer on deployment. Apparently we were judged on how late we stayed in the O-club. I didn’t go - didn’t like to. I don’t much like to drink and I don’t find drunks to be entertaining. Of course, when they write up your evaluations, they frame it as camaraderie or team-building or other such BS.

In my last active duty command, the XO actually had the duty petty officer call all of us to assemble in the club at 2 in the morning because he didn’t want to drink alone. I was so pissed - especially because at the time, my grandfather was quite ill and a phone call in the middle of the night is always bad news…

My next eval made it clear that I’d displeased TPTB and I knew my career was over. So, golly gee, I had to settle for 26 years working as an engineer for the Navy, but not having to play their silly-ass games! Go me!

Anyway, it’s raining, so I’ll read a while.

Good morning! I had weird stressful dreams all night and woke up feeling utterly disoriented and in need of another three hours of sleep. Fortunately, all my potential work projects are in limbo pending quotes or budget approval, so there’s nothing I have to be particularly focused or alert for.

That doesn’t sound at all like the TR here.

They do that with my daughter’s meds, too. Though the text usually comes across as “last chance to pick them up!”

I used to check Accuweather, the Weather Channel, and weather.gov every day. Weather.gov usually had the best record of the three, so now it’s the only one I check.

I read over forty of those a couple years ago.

Those look interesting – and of course our library doesn’t have any of them.

The only SF involved is the “ring of fire” that transports Grantville from 2000 West Virginia to 1631 Thuringia. After that it’s straight historical fiction – or as straight and historical as a story involving 20th-century Americans in 17th-century Germany can be.

54 now, high 57 and low 37. 90% rain tonight. Really ought to get dressed and go do things outside…

Finally conked out, slept a good 6ish hours without a bio break. When Monkey finally woke me up - bored, I guess - oh, man, did I need to pee!

Laundry is now in dryer, with another (small) load waiting, so I can use the zip mesh bag again to corrall some socks to make later sorting easier.

Charm shed overnight, so she’s looking exceptionally charming today. She’s also completely outgrown her tank; I have a bigger one waiting for her, but I have no idea where to put it! So that’s one more thing to worry/feel bad about.

Yesterday was overcast and drizzly, sometimes outright rainy. Today … well, all I can say is when I finally got up, the first words I croaked out were, “Who turned on the bright?!?” Jeebus, the sun is out with a vengeance today!

Boo Fae I just picked up the first After Climeri book. Thank you for the recommendation!

Metal Mouse I enjoyed 1632 and at least some of the sequels. It looks like I have some catching up to do!

Hey! It’s me. I am actually posting in the MMP on a Monday. And I just realized what time it is and must dash to an appointment.

Have a the best possible day everyone!

Just got back from lunch with my friend. It was great, though marred by the latest school shooting. My friend was BtY’s PE teacher through most of middle school. I’ve got two kids in the school system. (Though not at this private school, thank heavens). It made it hard to focus on talking about her trip to Mexico and all the things going on in both our lives, though we did manage it.

I think I may need to wander over to the Pit to rant, which is something I think I’ve done once in the 22+ years I’ve been here.

I’ll have to give it a shot. I’d like a source that’s right more often than it’s wrong…

I got most of the beds across the back of the house raked out, as well as the leaves that had accumulated around the woodpile. I’ve got a pot of bean soup simmering - it’s smelling yum! I had to run back to Food Lion, tho - the ham steak in the fridge had turned. ick.

While prepping for the soup, I got a call from our HVAC company wanting to know if we’d like our a/c check done, um, NOW!! Apparently they had a cancellation, so the tech is here - one less thing for me to schedule. But it’s chilly in the house since the a/c is running. I just finished cleaning the pellet stove and it’s fired up - hoping for warmth soon.

Daughter hasn’t heard back about her car - no news is good news?? Or they’re so busy they haven’t gotten to it yet.

It’s been a pretty productive day. Here’s hoping the raking helps me have another good sleep tonight!

That’s a horrible scenario all 'round, RealFish, and I hate … I dunno, how our country seems to be sliding, declining, into chaos and violence.

Sadly, I concur. All further thoughts on the matter shall be confined to the Pit, as they are not fit for the genteel Mumpers.

You can get the simple truth to the limit of human forecasting technology from the government agency that gathers all the raw data that everyone else uses, or you can get sensationalist BS from outfits trying to sell more ads by producing more alarming versions of the weather. Alarming sells.

The whole weather dissemination industry has totally jumped the sharknado* on sensationalizing even a nice Spring day.

Professionally speaking, just go to the source.

Yes. I had to rewrite that several times to tone it down for our more refined sensibilities here in the MMP. And even then it was a bit of an outre faux pax.

* See:

Happy Moonday!

It was bright and N.O.S. this morning, 48 degrees. Now it’s a bit overcast and in the 60s.
I should be outside, or I should be doing something.
I’ve gotten a few smaller chores done this morning.

No park, as Ripple got his stitches out this morning. We could have done both, but it would have been kind of rushed. I don’t handle rushing well at this stage of my life.

He did really well, I held his head and not a single growl or mutter. He didn’t even try to turn his head towards the tech.
Echo is not happy, she thought we were going to daycare.

The drama goes on, and on, and on some more.
I give up, I don’t even care anymore.
We have now split into three groups, although that probably won’t last past this week.
A handful of people go to a different park, but I think it is closed to dogs on April 1. I don’t blame them though; it has a beach and some of the dogs really like the water. They already had a ranger out once to tell them they have to keep their dogs on leashes, except for when they are in the water. I’ not sure how well that works? Like you’re going to stand at water’s edge with a leash and catch your dog when it comes on land? The dogs run in and out of the water.
Of course, everybody leaves when Barly mom comes. So, it’s usually just the two of us and everybody else on the small side. She sits and snarks every time one of the other dogs bark. Lucy dad’s new dog Petey and Rocky mom’s new dog Ali are still adjusting.
Now that the weather is getting better the junkies are coming into the park to shoot up and leave their needles wherever they fall. Assholes have the whole damn park to do their shit, but no, they have to come into the dog park.

I got a pillow to elevate my legs yesterday. It doesn’t irk so well. I’ll give it a try a few more nights and see if I can adjust to it.

Congrats on new position BooFae

Nice picture Yankers. That is somewhere I’d like to be right now.
Happy Mowing!

Nellie, my knee literally feels like somebody is sticking a knife into it. Sometimes it’s at the front, sometimes it’s at the side, but it’s not a wide area or the whole knee.

Ham and broccoli with cheese for dinner tonight.
The timer just went off and it smells good.
The only problem with the ham is it is overpowered by the taste of cloves.

shoe, everytime I see swampy’s Jawja, I hear Jimmy Carter saying it.

yank, a bad day fishing still beats a good day at irk. :stuck_out_tongue:

{{{real fish}}} That’s been weighing on my mind all day too. One of my favorite young people is a freshman just around the corner at Belmont and I worry about her.

With the horrible news out of Nashville today, I came home to poodles, a boxer and the puppies along with Nelson. Doggos are good therapy.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Wait. . .it’s Monday?

I have my personal theories about why this is happening, but this is not the place to air them. The ONLY thing that gives me hope is seeing kids like CtE angry enough to fight against where this is all headed. At least the next generation isn’t complacent.

Yeah, Belmont isn’t that far. Thankfully, MPD was there and entered quickly. Not quickly enough for the 6 innocents that died, but at least from keeping the shooter from getting out to the rest of the city.

Doggos are great therapy. I, sadly, don’t have that. And neither CtE nor BtY are at the cuddle she anymore. Sandy Hook happened when CtE was in 1st grade and I was so grateful to cuddle them that day. I think if I’d known then how many more shootings were to come, I never would have let them or of my site again.

realfish. What do CtE and BtY stand for? I’m thinking BtY is boy the younger….
