[OLD] Have As Good A New Monday MMP As Possible

Oh, there will be plenty.

I’m quite sure this has already been documented in your PERMANENT RECORD. No maypole dance for you this year.

And now I want ice cream too. A McDonalds hot fudge sundae would be nice right about now.

My youngest son and fiancée are in Ann Arbor. In July they’ll come to Lincoln to get married then settle in Denver for his new job. I had hoped to get to Michigan to visit them (and shoe :waving_hand:t3::waving_hand:t3:) but my health had other plans.

Thanks for looking that up-I wouldn’t have known how to. I won’t do a thing with the stuff. She can come fetch it or pay a moving company to come pick it up. I’m not lifting a finger.

When the time comes I’ll donate it to the community garage sale that supports Little Pantries in the neighborhood or post it in the recycle/Reuse/Buy Nothing group on FaceBook. Nothing worth me trying to sell-it’s mostly crap.

You got that right! Not lifting a finger or spending another penny.

I must be more tired than I realized-for a few seconds I was picturing a shot glass made out of Lego. You’d certainly want a coaster under that.

‘Elevenses’ are a whole ‘nother thing. boofae can fill us in on those.

Would be little to gain and way too much work-it’s junk. I’ll donate it locally if I do anything.

Sounds good, tell me more. I have some poppyseed dressing. Would that be good on it?

I use Balsamic Vinegar and some fresh dill if I have it. Lemon juice adds a zing as well. My friend makes it with apple cider vinegar and that’s pretty good too, so I’ll just bet your poppyseed dressing would work just fine.

Cube an apple and cube about the same amount of cucumber. Mix together with salt and pepper and whatever dressing you are using and have a nice, healthy and tasty bowl of fruit. It’s a great summer lunch.

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Hullo dere!

That’s the thing; I’ve never had a “regular” hairdresser! This happened the first time I went to that particular place. And the one person I did see semi-regularly never asked. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m very glad to hear this. And that the meds are doing their job (assuming that they still are).

I have a scar on the back of my neck from surgery when I was three months old. I don’t even think about it until someone mentions it and then I become hyper aware. I don’t think anyone has mentioned it in years, but I’m gearing up for some when I get my hair cut short this weekend.

Yay for new cars! I’m glad that you were able to get the one that you wanted. Not a red car person myself (pretty much every one since I’ve been married has been silver) but if we were all the same, then the world would be boring. You said no CD player, but does it have bluetooth or similar> It’s pretty much all I ever use in my vehicles anymore.

You’ll be wonderful! I haven’t sung in front of anyone for… close on 20 years probably? Other than my husband and my kids. I miss singing a lot and really need to make time to go to a karaoke bar (though you’d think it would be so much easier to find a better singing place in Nashville - I’m just way too shy to do it!)

Grrr! Yeah, it really isn’t fair for you to have to go out and get more - regardless of the amount of time that you have available to replace them. I hate when people don’t take care of other people’s property.

It did, thanks! Though the construction on my way up to my friend’s place almost caused me to be late and being as far back in the car rider line didn’t help, nor did CtE being on a later bus than usual. But we still got to the shop 10 minutes before they closed so my van is back to being in my possession. Now tomorrow I have to clean out all the crap that my kids left in there two months ago when I wasn’t expecting to drop it off. I don’t think we’re supposed to have rain though, so this is all to the good.

That is ALWAYS good news, both the no noises and the coming out less than quoted. I wish I could have said the same with our transmission. The first quote was around $4000, then $6000 then ended with $8000. However, the fact that it’s a 3 year unlimited warranty eases that pain a little.

Yuck! I’ve had that happen with AT&T occasionally and it drove me insane. I’m glad that you’re back up and running!

I hope they do the job and that you’ll be in less pain for awhile. I do like the idea of calling the brace Bruce though.

Thanks for the hugs, db (since I’m still not completely up on MMP names yet.)

I am in a much better mood tonight having my van back. I let my friend do a majority of the driving - he’s a valet and handles vehicles far better than I have ever done, plus he’s a bit of a control freak so it’s easier to let him be behind the wheel. But on my way back from his place, I remembered exactly why I love my van - bluetooth connection, voice control for phone calls, rear backup camera. There are a couple new quirks with it - like when I first turn the car on, while it’s in park, the backup camera comes on. Never used to do that and when I park it after driving it, it doesn’t do it. That, plus the ABS light is now always on. It doesn’t seem to ACTUALLY be engaged, and I’m hoping it’s just a fluke and it will go back to normal on it’s own.

When we picked up CtE from the metro bus today, they told us that much of tomorrow is going to be a protest at school because of the killings on Monday. Which caused my friend (who has the mindset that the problem is people not guns) and I (who has the mindset that it’s a damn complicated problem in which guns are part of the problem) got into a discussion about it all as we were driving my kids back home. Not sure if we’ll ever come to complete agreement, but I do have to say that having a friend that I can have a debate like this with and it not ending up with us hating each other is a very good thing. Back to the protest, CtE is wanting to stay home from school tomorrow since “nothing is going to be done”. I told them they’re going to school tomorrow no matter what. Because they really need to spend more time AT school and less time AT home.

I got a call from the hospital. Dad’s insurance won’t cover him being at the rehab facility and so now he’s just wanting to go home. I’m trying to talk him into seeing if he can get into a different facility. I worry that, with as much pain as he’s in and his lack of stability, he won’t be safe at home. I have to call him again in the morning and try to talk him into seeing if insurance will cover a facility over here by me. Because the last thing we need is him back in the hospital AGAIN because his insurance won’t help him when he needs it.

I also got a call from my mom today. Her older brother fell and hit his neck on the bumper of a car the other day and broke his neck. He’s been in the hospital in Albany, NY since it happened. I guess he’s not doing well at all and they don’t think he’s going to make it. I’m not sure if he’d been in a coma or what, but he is 79 years old. I can’t be up there with them, but my thoughts are with my aunt, my cousins, and the rest of the family. This will be the second sibling that my mom has lost and she’s having a really tough time with it. I’m just glad that my sister lives next door so I don’t have two parents dealing with things alone.

I’m also trying to be there for my friend (who, as often as I talk about him, really should have some kind of nickname when I talk about him). Monday is the second deathiversary of a friend that had been as close as a sister. He’s very much in his head tonight. We talked about her quite a bit as we were driving today. I hope that helped him. It does helping, I think, that I know exactly what he’s going through. Persephone’s deathiversary every year hits me hard, and it’s exactly one month before the one for his friend. He was there for me as I was working through Persephone’s death, the least I can do is be there for him as he’s working through hers.

I haven’t written my poem yet for today, but as long as it’s been, I think today is going to be a haiku. I’ll even share it here first:

A friend that’s hurting
Can feel like the pain is yours.
Hug them to heal both.

I hope everyone has a great night/day/whatever and wherever you are. I think I’m going to try to get some sleep before I have to be up to force CtE to go to school.

Evening all. Did some swimming and sauna and also helped out with 10U boys soccer, so that kept me busy most of the day. Ham-n-Cheeses for dinner. Coach my 10U girls tomorrow.

Whoa, 34 messages in the last 8 hours! Got some catching up to do.

The good news is that the area I first noticed wet carpet is drying out. The bad news is that the water is now in other parts of the carpet, all apparently orginating from under the cneter sectional. Guess I’m going to have to figure out how to take the *&&%^% apart, still can’t believe there is a leak in the concrete slab, but it must be coming from somewhere…guess I’ll check the water meter tomorrow and maybe call the plumbers I had last time. At least I have some extra carpet left over from when it was installed so maybe I can get by without having to buy any if some if it is ruined.

In my defense, I always use coasters in the office where I consume 80% of my beverage intake. There is simply nowhere for coasters to work on a big old sectional.

I may have to check Alabama law (or hire you to do it…). The ductwork/AC folks left some items in my garage over 2 weeks ago and despite several e-mails they’ve made no effort to contact me to get it picked up. Next step is a formal letter to get it or I’ll dispose of it.

Nettie, happy that buddy has a permanent home (even if Buddy doesn’t know it.

shoe, BBBoo got the definition right. I used to hear ‘sixes and sevens’ during English soccer broadcasts when a team was back desperately trying to clear the ball but not being able to do so and in general didn’t know what the other team was doing.

True Fish, hope Dad is doing better and trip to get kids and car went as planned. And reading down the thread I see that the logistics did work out and hope Dad can find a good arrangement. And a sad for your Mom.

yankers. pilot, thanks for the aviation terms lesson.

wet one, congrats on the new wheels (my Durango is red).

Oopsie, love the LEGO band. And glad you made a new friend. Enjoy Saturday’s gig and Sunday’s friend–sounds like a great weekend is planned.

JtC, sorry your eggs got damaged, at least Amazon is trying to make good.

Whew. Apologies for those I missed, twas a lot of reading. Now need to see how the soaking up is working and getting the sectional disconnected. Take care all.

It turns out that my aunt liked rain; so it’s fitting that it rained all morning. We couldn’t go down to the gravesite, because it’s a little steep and rather wet. We had the graveside service near the road, and some of my cousins stayed to watch from a distance, the coffin be lowered. The rest of us went to the house.

There are a variety of sandwiches on French rolls, potato salad, Caesar salad, dill pickle halves, fruits, and several varieties of sweets. I had a tuna sandwich, a very small amount of potato salad, Caesar salad, and a pickle half. My aunt was keen to not have her memorial a duplicate of her husband’s – who was of Irish descent, and the wake was on a Saint Patrick’s Day. There was beer and wine, in addition to soft drinks. I had coffee. I did notice there were a couple of bottles of Bailey’s, but I didn’t have any. And then a cousin started making rum & Cokes. But I didn’t have any of that either. And then she pulled out a bottle of Crown Royal. OK. She poured a cousin’s husband and me a shot, which we sipped. I had a second one later.

It was good to see everybody. Everyone seemed pleased to see me. There was a framed picture of my dad as a LTJG on the wall of the… whatever you call a big room for get-togethers. An indoor patio? It had been there since my dad’s memorial in 1999. My aunt always said I could have it when she died. My dad’s youngest brother said that there was a picture of my dad, and he was going to steal it and give it to me; but it wasn’t in its place. My cousin who was my aunt’s caregiver had already put it aside for me. Everyone kept asking if I know about the picture/did I get the picture yet/don’t forget the picture. And of course, even before I got the picture people would say how much I looked like ‘Uncle Bob’ (my dad).

It was not a sad occasion. My aunt was very devout, and so is everyone else in my family. Everyone enjoyed catching up, remembering, and laughing.

Considering my aunt had 10 kids, nine of which survive, her sister had six kids, and all or most of them were there; and then there were spouses, children, and children’s children – a bit of a crowd – it only took 35 minutes to excuse myself and take my leave.

In the morning I’ll take off right after breakfast, and plan to stop at the base of the Siskiyous. I’d rather go further, as the southern leg is the short leg; but it’s the usual stop in either direction. I’m hoping for clear roads by Mount Shasta and Mount Ashland, and the hilly areas after Medford. I’m hoping to be home by 20:00 on Friday.

Dinner tonight was a Carl’s Jr. Super Star e/Cheese – in a lettuce wrap – and a side of fried zucchini.

Jeez, I go to work for one shift, and this thread just takes off without me!

I have a frozen chicken-curry TV dinner type of thing in the nuker (don’t judge!) that I’m trying for the first time - man, I hope it doesn’t suck - so while that’s nukulating, let’s try to catch up:

I made a joke … ? Not trying to be an ass; I genuinely don’t remember.

Just call me “lobotomized goldfish.”

Cripes, that sounds so. friggin’. good. When can I come over, or do you ship out of state?

D’awwww.

Me like!

Fascinating! I could follow along with your translations - the abbreviations make sense, once explained - but I’d never in a zillion years make sense of it on my own.

Thanks for teaching me a thing!

I’d have pointed out that the protest IS doing an important thing.

Oh, sweetheart, that’s tough. I wish I could say/write something to make it all better.

why would you leave civilization for the empty prairie?

actually, in CA they have 30 days either to pay you what they owe or if they don’t owe to pick it up anything after that its yours to dispose of or sell

Went to get a rental app if this works out the house well be renting while trying to save to buy a house is 30 seconds across the street so moving should be a breeze, so I’m slightly hopeful

did get to sizzler today for the first time in years ad twasnt bad but wow have prices went up on the salad bar …
Seen the snow up on the mountains and thought it was pretty until the wind started blowing and was reminded they’re why it’s so cold still …
Hoping the cold others have leaves soon…its been almost 2 weeks

Our county shelter waived all adoption fees for March - apparently they were FULL so they needed to rehome some critters. We’re not looking for another, but out of nosiness, I checked out their availables - LOTS of older pit bull mixes. I suspect some were turned in because the owners wouldn’t be allowed to rent with such “dangerous” pets. I could be wrong…Anyway, I hate when people treat their pets like disposable items.

The closest I come to shipping is when I send leftovers with FCD to take to his mom… But if you ever find yourself in Merrylande, I’ll set a place at the table for you!

Weird dream about being on a weird cruise ship where no one spoke English. I know on all of our cruises, the majority of the staff spoke English as a second language, but in my dream, no one did. Plus there were all kinds of half-nekkid men lounging around, but not in an appealing way. It was arrogant lounging, like “Look at my amazing body” lounging. I don’t know - sleeping brains be weird! Plus there was lots of red licorice in the dream… I have no idea…

FCD has nothing on his agenda today, but he plans to work on the boat. I need to do some toddler wrangling again and I need to get to WalMart - unsure if I want to combine the two or not. I’ll just wing it today I guess. Glad it’s the last of my wrangling days for the week.

May your Thursday not suck too much!

Morning all. Up before the crack of dawn to check the carpets and…they are still getting wet and it’s spreading some…so I guess I need to call the plumber and see if I can get some help disassembling the sectional. Can’t for the life of me figure out where it’s coming from, I checked the stuff in the kitchen (nearest to the water) and nothing leaking there or along the wall, so I am stumped.

Things need to be done but not at 6am, so may go back to bed for a bit.

flyboy, glad the service went well despite the rain (when my aunt died in Wisconsin years ago it was in the middle of winter and services were held in -12F weather–very short service).

OK, back to worrying. Take care all.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 42 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 75 and N.O.S. for the day. Nuttin’ much on the agenda today. I could take care of some errands, but none of them are urgent yet, so that may or may not happen. Sup shall be chikin nachos just cause.

RealFish glad you got your van back. Hope some kind of arrangement can get worked out for your dad.

MetalMouse hope you find the cause of the wet carpet soonest and that it’s an easy fix.

flyboy glad the service went well. Have a safe trip back home.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 44 degrees and dark. The expected high is 55, with cloudy to mostly cloudy skies for the day.

metal mouse, I’m sorry you are experiencing another plumbing leak. I sure hope you can get it sorted. My old sectional had removal backs and the bottoms connected via a metal track that slid and clicked together at one end.

flyboy, I’m glad the service went well and I hope your travels back home go smoothly.

nellie, I’m sorry The Bruce (I went ahead and named it) is being a literal pain. I really hope things work out.

Yesterday was filled with a multitude of issues, large and small. I tried making the uncomfortable call, but the individual wasn’t answering. So, I went ahead and emailed him. His response was minimal and did not address everything I asked about, so I responded and asked to address each of my points and suggestions. My SD is supposed to be on vacation; however, she must be reading her emails. She jumped in and “urged” him to prioritize solving this issue. He has not responded, so I assume he’s well and truly pissed. That doesn’t bother me; what bothers me is the lack of action and the impact it will have on a significant project.

I swear, I’m herding cats and recalcitrant Huskies, which is much worse than normal Huskies which are more than a handful.

I’ve been up since 3:00 am and have nearly finished my second cup of coffee. It’s going to be a long day, and I’ve got many things to take care of for work. I made travel arrangements yesterday for the last week in April for the Traveling Management Show. I would much rather go on my own and drive my vehicle. However, we’re visiting all but one office and stopping for some outreach visits, and it’s easier if we’re piled into two vehicles. I’ll have to make a trip to one of the offices on my own to pick up some stuff since I won’t be able to pile stuff in the GOV van to bring back.

RealFish, glad you got your van back.

JtC, sorry to read about the poor treatment of your eggs.

I supposed I’ll finish loading the dishwasher now and then run it. The good news is that my “commute” is only up the stairs, so I can spend some time relaxing before I start my work day.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/56f with no predicted change, and with isolated showers. They weren’t very isolated when I came into work this morning! Weather app says “Looks like someone’s going to smell like a wet dog today, and that’s someone fucking isn’t me”.

BBBoo is right, it really means someone who’s dithering and doesn’t know what to do next. In this case, it’s for someone who has a lot of things going on that aren’t “normal” so it’s hard to get on with one job when something else comes along competing for attention.

metal mouse lurgy usually covers things that could be a cold or flu, might not be either, might be both. Blurf would do just as well

Seanette Lucky Buddy!

flyboy glad to hear the Aunt had a good send-off, despite the rain.

Nothing much to report here, second day in the office is going well but it’s very quiet. Only three of us in today and it’s easter vacation for the students so very few people around, and no academic staff to speak of.

Last night I was meant to be going out but didn’t, and had intended to cook for myself but then couldn’t be bothered and ended up having toast and peanut butter for dinner. 'im indoors had a pizza from the local takeaway, I normally would have said yes to that but really didn’t feel like it so toast it was. No blurfage involved, just didn’t fancy anything much for dinner.

'im indoors is making lamb madras in the slow cooker today, I am definitely going to be having some of that!

I had the intentional flu yesterday and stayed home. We were having our latest gully-washer and I’m burned out on commuting twenty-five miles each way in a tropical deluge. It was nice to stay inside and linger over a second cup of tea while listening to the rain and hail pounding down.

Staying home also gives me a chance to make a better dinner, so we had “gringo tacos”, my term for crunchy tacos filled with ground beef. I make a good version of taco meat, well spiced with red chile and with added small cubes of potatoes. I make plenty of it, so that there are leftovers. Mr. brown likes to eat it for lunch the next day (I suspect cold out of the container while standing in front of the refrigerator).

Back to work today, and at least it’s not pouring so the commute won’t be such a bitch. And it’s workout day, too.

Happy to hear of the good news around the group and sorry for those who are struggling; better times are coming. Specifically:

Truly this was no big deal. Yards and yards of skin cancers get peeled off people every day in this county alone, much less the whole world. If I had a conventional job I’d have gone to work directly after the doc was done. As of this morning it’s a bit sore, but Tylenol (which works for me) works well enough. It’s uncomfortable, not painful. So far so typical. I can’t even count any more the number of times I’ve had this done. Although this was one of the larger ones. Other than the time they cut off most of the crown of one ear & replaced it w some plastic.

Light on almost always means either the ABS is defective or it’s been switched off. There’s often a pushbutton someplace around the periphery of the dash to turn it off for special occasions. That may have gotten pushed by kids, workmen, etc. Doesn’t cost anything for you to check.

Glad it went well. Good luck on your race northward. What’s the hurry?

It’s a damn shame that human nature is such that most families, mine certainly included, can’t be arsed to have reunions for their own sake; we end up having them only for weddings when we’re young and funerals when we’re old.

Good to have a reunion, even if the cause is sadder than what we might wish it where.

Switching gears:
Now on Thu morning both the Sun and I have been up an hour, it’s a pleasantly neutral temperature here outside on the patio / balcony, and coffee is going down nicely while I catch up on everyone’s news. It rained overnight and is still mostly cloudy with damp but drying streets.

We are drifting into the beginning of rainy season, one of the three seasons of FL: Rainy, dry, and too GD many northeasterners ;). Although post-COVID it seems like excess northeasterner season runs all 12 months now. Anyhow, the punch line being that going forward most days will have a few minutes of rain either where you are, or within a couple miles. Keeps everything clean and shiny. Except cars. Makes them a right mess.

I’ve got a bad habit of procrastinating on business phone calls until it’s Sat morning when I get the gumption to call the bank or whatever, but of course they’re closed for the weekend. So I must wait until Monday when I can start a new cycle of procrastination. I may be old-ish, but I sure suck at growing up in some ways. Anyhow, a couple of those are my big goal for today.

Cheers all!

Good morning, kids!

It’s 5 degrees F/-15C here on the White Earth Reservation but we’re expecting a slow increase in temperature from here. I’ve got that meeting with a vendor today but my enthusiasm for it has evaporated since it looks like we’re losing the staff that would get my budget up in a timely manner. I have an application in for a grant that might buy us some books, so I’ll just have to hang my hopes on that.

In less frustrating news: I was invited to speak on the panel at a workshop-conference-thing? They want my perspective as someone coming from public to academic/tribal librarianship?? They want to pay me an honorarium??? I’m like, guys… I just got here. @_@

Cuz my spouse and I split up and I couldn’t afford to live there on my own. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

(okay, I’m gonna do my best with the nicknames? Please don’t yell at me when I get some wrong. XD )

FCM, weird boats and oceanfaring feature prominently in my dreams. Haven’t a clue why, I didn’t grow up around boats and I’ve never taken any substantial trips by ocean. I’m sure there’s a spooky woo analysis for why! Red licorice probably means Beware the Crimson Vine, or something else suitably cryptic.

metalmouse, good luck with the plumber! The travails of homeownership sometimes make me feel a little better about being doomed to forever-rentership… Sometimes.

swampy, are we talking like, shredded chili verde chicken, or chopped adobo chicken, or what? Dish!

taters, hopefully y’all can at least find a cool place for lunch, or something? Preferably on company dime?

faerie, I feel like I’m in similar straits job-wise! New to the school and little to do. Lamb madras sounds amazing!

teela, I’m stealing “intentional flu.” I love it. And I’ve always called those kind of tacos “white people tacos” too! My way of managing expectations so people didn’t expect carne asada or whatever back in CA.

LSL, I’m glad you’re not hurting too bad. I’m going to assume you went a permanent-LARP route and got elf-shaped plastic ear reconstruction, because it amuses me to picture you as Elrond.

Happy Thursday! A little later, I’ll strap on Bruce and head to the ortho doc. (Egad, that sounds dirty.) I kept waking up last night because I’d let the left leg rest on it, which hurt like Hades. It’s very pressure-sensitive, which is so unlike my arthritic spine. Oh, and every time I awoke, I looked out the window to see the planet alignment, which was stupid because there’s so much light pollution here.

MetalMouse, I was really hoping the wet carpet mystery wouldn’t require plumbers to resolve. Fingers crossed for an easy fix!

FCM, that was an interesting dream, all right. I have no idea what it means, but I hope the next dream cruise is moore pleasant.

BooFae, I love peanut butter toast, so much so that I don’t keep peanut butter in the house. I hope the quiet time at work is a nice respite.

flyboy, I’m glad your aunt got such a nice send-off. Have a safe trip home!

Taters, I hope the difficult individual gets over his snit and responds with the info you need. Have a safe trip!

Late morning all. Well, the plumber stopped by, couldn’t find any problem in the sink or dishwasher, which are the nearest appliances to the spot on the floor, but had to leave for an already-booked appointment. Got to call the Furniture place to see if they can get anyone out to take apart the sectional so they can get to the center of the leak. Went ahead and turned the water off for now, will turn it back on when I need it.

Sometimes I wonder about moving into a place like Cookie has in Minnesota; but being 70 years old doesn’t mean I want to move in with old people…

Flyboy, safe travels home.

lucky, sometimes a day off is just the right thing to do. Hope the rains let up.

OK, need to do something…just don;t know what. Take care all.
