[OLD] Have As Good A New Monday MMP As Possible

Nah, not gibberish. Actual teletype transmission pattern that lots of weather reports are based on. Us oldsters used to read this type of report from Flight Service Stations routinely. Lemme see how much I remember:
02006KT Winds are from 020 at 06 knots
10SM Visibility is 10 statute miles
-RA Light Rain (- is light, no prefix is moderate, + is heavy)
FEW070 OVC110 Sky condition: Few clouds at 7000 feet, overcast at 11000 feet.
09/03 Temperature is 09 C, Dewpoint is 03C.
A3023 Pressure (altimeter setting) is 3023 in Hg.
RMK A02 Report delimiter, remarks follow and this station is automated with precip sensor.
RAB43 Rain began 43 minutes ago
SLP234 Sea Level Pressure (in millibars). (I think this is correct)

2909/3006 The following forecast valid from 0900 Z (GMT) on the 29th until 0600 on the 30th.
05005KT Predicted winds will be from 050 degrees at 5 knots
P6SM Visibility 6 (or greater) statute miles.
VCSH “Vicinity Showers” (showers predicted in this vicinity)
BKN110 Sky condition predicted to be broken cloud cover at 11,000 feet.

Hopefully our more current (and expert) pilots will be along to make sure I got all that right. It’s been awhile.

I’m pretty sure @LSLGuy is a pilot, not to mention @Johnny_L.A.

A 110 amp clothes dryer could fry your knickers to a nice, crispy brown in an instant. I think you meant 110 volts as opposed to amps.

@Pullin nailed it except this snippet. It’s really rain began at 43 minutes after the last hour = after the time the previous report was made.

Every government weather station in the world records a reading at the top of the every hour and they all share them in this format. Which has some minor variations for folks in the metric part of the world and lots more possible entries for types of clouds, precip, volcanoes, tornadoes, plagues of frogs, etc.

I can’t imagine being offended by the question. Then again I approach it from a male POV. Scars are probably the sign of an adventure, even if it was an adventure that turned bad at the end. Everybody likes to talk about their (mis-)adventures. Again male POV. IOW:

The older I get, the better I was.

Hang in there buddy.

Are you stuck doing a family meal this evening or are you on your own? There’s lots of “interesting” cuisine within 30 minutes of where you are. Whether you want fancy, or Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives sort of fare. Anything beats Denny’s. Give us some advance warning and the various current and former Angelinos will hook you up.

Friday afternoon I am picking up my 2023 Camry XSE. Sadly I could not buy the loaner but I am getting the exact thing in RED which is the best car color. The loaner was Pre Dawn Gray mica and was gorgeous but red is the best color. It even has a heated steering wheel. But no CD player…… This car is replacing my 2010 Camry SE which is also red….

I totally lost the bubble on the old thread over the weekend, and can’t believe it’s suddenly Wednesday already! I am woefully not caught up at all. There’s been a lot going on.

First, on Saturday evening I finished my LEGO jazz quartet!

https://i.ibb.co/JQGxWmx/PXL-20230325-220928638.jpg

I think it looks pretty spiffy. Some of my friends don’t understand how these sets work, though, because I’ve gotten a couple of compliments on my artistic ability and questions about why there’s no singer, etc. I just follow the directions! :joy:

On Sunday afternoon I went to a volunteer colleague’s house to pick up our big tent and a standing sign. It was my first opportunity to really chat with her, and it was nice. I have a 2-door and had to fold down my back seats, but luckily everything fit in my car. We wound up standing in her driveway and talking for over an hour. Then I headed to a social gathering for one of my committees, which wound up being pretty nice. We met at a sports-bar-type place I’d never been to before, and they had a fabulous French dip. Yum!

Monday evening was a virtual meeting of a new committee that I’m automatically part of due to my involvement with some branch administrative issues (it also includes our secretary, treasurer, etc.). The new officers/committee chairs are still working to get organized in a few respects, so it was a good meeting but it lasted 90 minutes and was a little tiring. Then last night there was a General Membership meeting via Zoom, with committee breakouts afterwards, but by the time I finished work I just couldn’t face another branch-related meeting (it would have been #7 in ten days): I notified a few folks, and skipped it. I have an event this Saturday, then more branch-related meetings on Monday and Wednesday evenings. After that, though, I’ll get a break for almost two weeks!

Non-volunteer stuff is spinning up a little, too – starting tomorrow night, when I have a work dinner for the first time in several months. It’ll be mostly a social thing, with a small group: just me, three other members of the program leadership team, and the program manager (our boss). We’re going to a restaurant super close to my house, so it’ll be good to see everyone in person while also not having to drive far at all.

After Saturday’s volunteer event I’ll need to hightail it to Maryland for a piano bar evening at a friend’s house. I haven’t sung in front of people since August, and I haven’t been accompanied by this particular pianist in years (and I miss him!), so I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a pot luck thing and I don’t cook (at all): I asked my friend what I could bring, and she said “fruit sald?” I decided to get 10 individual fruit salad cups delivered from Edible Arrangements tomorrow, and I’ll bring them.

On Sunday, I’ll be meeting an old college friend at the Hard Rock Cafe in DC for lunch! I haven’t seen her in 31 years. She still lives in Philly (we went to a small school near Villanova) but will be in DC for the weekend because her brother is running in one of the Cherry Blossom races. I’ve actually never been to the Hard Rock here. I made the restaurant reservation last weekend, and will be taking Metro (even through the train can be frustrating, driving in the city while so many people will be in town for the races/to see the blossoms – and while streets will be closed for the former – would be flat-out insanity).

I see that I missed a new-to-me Mumper: welcome, NinthAcolyte!

I don’t think of hairdresses as being “strangers”; I’d totally expect one to ask about anything going on with my head!

I’ll be in your position in just under a month.

(hard to believe that trip is now just 3.5 weeks away…)

Woot!!! :red_car:

The community center does an Easter Egg hunt for the littles, so I ordered a gross of plastic eggs. The box got crushed in shipping and half the eggs are ruined and I hate our local contract postal workers because they do this sort of thing all time with no repercussions.

Happily I have time to have them replaced, but I shouldn’t have to. grumbles

Tres cool!
Here’s a link for the rest of us to look at that car in the real color:

I try not to offer advice, I really do, but Boo, dear, under no circumstance should you allow ex-roomie to talk you into sending her any of the stuff she left. Were it me, I’d be tempted to have a big garage sale and sell it all, but save that thought for a little while.

I like your car, Wet One. May you have many happy miles therein.

I remember spending a few days on a lake (Big Bear?) in Minnesota many years ago. It was lovely. I didn’t much care for St. Paul though.

Be careful out there.

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and I got my Cook Out fix for N.O.L. Nappage was also achieved. One awful, terrible, horrific, catastrophic, and not very nice at all thing happened. Maybe I should spoiler it for the feint of heart. The wifi went down for almost three hours! I know. We were brave. Well, I was braver cause stuff like that has little to no effect on OYKW as he is prone toward bein’ a Luddite. However, now, as y’all can see, all is well and right with the world again. OK I coulda accessed teh intartoobz with my personal hotspot on my iphone. I decided to tough it out however.

Boo I had wondered about your roomie. Sorry she left you like that. I would tend to be like Bumba said, but you are no doubt a lot more soft hearted.

FlyBoy I know what you meant by “Funeral mass is over. Now I’m at the cemetary.”, but, my demented mind envisioned you postin’ in the MMP from beyond the grave. Gave me a little morbid giggle it did.

Oopsie the jazz quarted is tres chic! Have fun with all your out and about doins. Just readin’ about them has cause me to be exhausted.

WetOne yay for the shiny new wheels!

RealFish glad your mood is better. Hope all the logistics work re gettin’ your van back home.

BooFae glad the first day on the new gig went relatively well.

Nettie hooray for Buddy! He probably does not care in the least, but he for real has a home with y’all now.

Pilot glad you survived surgery. Now is the time to work out the details of your scar story.

MetalMouse hope the wet spot gets all dried out and does not make the carpet look weird.

sari glad Ripple is bein’ back to normal. He’s such a handsome boy!

shoe I had to borrow that joke for book of faces. It made me giggle!

Taters yay for the tatertot’s promotion!

Yanker what a weird pilot story. Hope you get the expenses and deductible refunded.

:open_mouth:

I know that feeling - when I had a carcinoma removed a few years back. I still have a divot, but it’s disguised by hair, so I’ve got that going for me.

That is too cool for school!!!

Daughter has her car back and she said it’s not making noises any more. The final bill was a bit less than quoted - I’m beginning to think Paul quotes high so when the work is done, you can’t bitch about the cost since it’s less than estimated. Or not. I don’t think he plays games.

Anyway, we had a nice supper of rotissed chickie, noodles and gravy, green beans, and broccoli. The dishes are all clean, the children have been taken home, and it’s blessedly quiet here. I talked to Daughter about repayment, so we’ve got that straightened out.

Time for chillage. I want ice cream. Dammit.

Beautiful, reminds me of camping on Padre Island or maybe it was South Padre. One of my memories is of cooking some bacon then pouring out the grease so I could cook the eggs. As I poured out the grease, I looked down and noticed I was pouring it directly on a very small crab.

shoe I’m 3+ hrs from you, metropolitan Detroit, hometown of Henry Ford.

Going to go for a walk now.

I’m pretty sure he’s been firmly convinced he owns us since about June.

I suffered a complete Xfinity outage (no Internet, cable, etc.) for probably about 12 hours (we’re not sure what time service returned, since we were asleep at that point).

I’m back from the shots. Walking wasn’t exactly pain-free, but I think I would’ve been in more pain with the brace. The problem is it has to be tight-ish on the leg so it stays up and offers some compression, but the knee doesn’t like to be squeezed unless it’s by a handsome man. Maybe if I called it Bruce instead of Brace…

It’s gorgeous out today, and the whole city seems to be in a good mood. Almost everyone called, “Thank you, driver!!” as they got off the bus. And I met a couple of doggies, always a thrill.

So much to respond to that it’s hard to keep up!

Boo, I’ll PM you my phone number, too. I’m usually up until at least 11:00 or 11:30, which is 1:00-1:30 where you are. And really, if you wake me up, no biggie. As for ex-roomie, I looked up the Nebraska law. After she’s been gone 30 days, you can send a notice to her listing the items and telling her she has 14 days to remove her stuff. After the 14 days, you may take possession of her stuff and sell or trash it. If it’s worth under $2000, you may keep the stuff, sell it, or trash it. If it’s over $2000, you have to sell it by public auction.

Pilot, glad the surgery went well, and hey, you got a free scalp reduction, normally up to $20,000! I think I certain vain former president paid a lot for his.

Wet One, sweet ride! I love that color. You’ll be the envy of the neighborhood!

swampy, glad you survived your travails in the Internet Desert. You’re a tough man.

{{{{{flyboy}}}}} and {{{aunt}}}, if she’s reading this from the Great Perhaps.

Seanette, congrats on Buddy’s official status! Will he get a candle in his kibble to celebrate, or would he just eat it?

Taters, a big congrats on TatorTot’s promotion! You have every reason to be proud.

Oopsie, what a great LEGO set! Man, that must have been a lot of work! The clerk at the shot center showed me a LEGO cup she’d made, and it really holds water! I suggested some LEGO ice cubes, and she got very excited.

JtC, sorry the eggs went all Humpty on you, especially when they’re for an act of kindness.

He and Allie both got extra treats, in part as compensation for putting up with trips to the vet.

The last few days, Buddy’s developed a tendency he didn’t have before to slide under the covers to cuddle while I’m sleeping, and the temperature in here hasn’t been unusual. He also hasn’t been going out as much since we started having him wear a harness. DH insisted on creating a Facebook group intended for any other families he might have around the complex (the group is now open to his fans in general), and attached a tag to the harness to direct others toward that group. So of course he stays in.

sari, when I travel with Nelson, most of the beds are higher than the one here at home and he’s too bottom heavy to launch himself into them. He’s learned to stay in the bed until I get up for whatever reason (I had to be a meanie and leave him whimper a couple of times when he couldn’t hop up). I’m glad that Ripple is doing better. The dog food that you’re making sounds like a fairly decent supper.

metal mouse, had my budget been bigger when I totaled my Yaris, I would have gone for a RAV4. SIL has one and it’s comfortable.

JtC, my grandparents had three apricot trees in their yard and they were more delicious than anything that you can buy.

BBB, I would recommend that you sync both of your tablets, your phone and any other devices you’re on with each other in the cloud. That would take care of your back up needs.

What? No stoner special swampy? :stuck_out_tongue:

Congrats to your son taters!

Yay for making Buddy all official seanette!

Glad your surgery went well pilot. As a vetran of lesion removal a number of times over the years, I’m bumpy on my ears, neck, shoulders and upper back (years truck farming and on the lakes as a fair skinned redhead).

Read most, retained some.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

That’s one way to get through a mountain of laundry quickly, and I could skip washing them first.

At some point (like when I have to put this house on the market) it will have to be hauled away. Hopefully that won’t be for a fair number of years. Til then it’s piled in an unused bedroom that I don’t need.

I got to pick up my first fruit and vegetable bag of the season and it was so welcome. The two volunteers accepted a hug when I said I was soooo glad to see them that I could hug them. The supervisor said “we accept hugs”. So I did. Green beans, cucumbers, apples, tomatoes, red bell peppers.

It sure is!

You could always just rub a big handful of baking soda on the spot, let it dry and then vacuum it up.

Nope. I learned my lesson. Cut my losses. Some people are never going to grow up if somebody else is always standing by to pick them up and dust them off. Some people have to learn the hard way. In her case the very hard, unpleasant way.

Agreed~almost anything is better than the laundromat. A few days ago I rinsed out a pair of jeans in a bucket and hung them out on the back porch to dry. Much easier than 3 trips up and down steep basement steps.

Yep, she pulled a fast one~sold her car to buy the plane ticket before she even told me she was thinking of leaving.

I grew up with “at sixes and sevens”, in Iowa. Meant dithering or blathering, like a deck of cards you tossed in the air. All hither and yon.

So SSLAW #1 mostly worked, I guess being threatened with the SMAW helped. while I was sleeping I dreamed me and this guy were driving through the back woods, and all the open spaces were filled with cars. When I saw an entire acre of golf carts, I mentioned that Gordie would have lost his Skittles over that. then I decided to start squatting in a $601,000 house, because the owner wasn’t using the right grass seed on their lawn. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

“I came in third in a 2 person race, and I got bit by a rabid bat” is not something I’d put on my resume.

It’s March 29th, and it’s supposed to get down to 39 degrees tonight.

Congrats to Spud, Taters!

{{{{Fishy}}}}

< whispers > Wait till he comes across dueling MMPs in one week < /whispers >

Glad the Lidocaine worked. Local anesthetic doesn’t work on me, which made the last head biopsy somewhat…unpleasant.

Yay! Two weeks till vacation, and pet adoption time.

As long as you don’t go to 11.

:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I do love Legos and jazz. And drinking cocktail while listening to jazz.

[Shipping hat on] It’s more the automation than the workers, FWIW. 95% on time delivery is kinda meaningless if you’re in the 5%. [/Shipping Hat off]

Thanks. this made my aviation loving heart smile.

But…but… then you miss out on The Children’s Riot Festival!
And sorry about the roomie.

Thank you. The infuriating part is that we are signed up to get pictures of our mail before it is delivered. The box was in perfect shape before being loaded into the contract carriers van. Amazon is reshipping the entire gross so its working out in our favor I guess. Still grumpy.

I’m so glad your knee is feeling better, I know you need your walks.

I thought that myself  No wonder Adam keeps getting in the sink.

I’ve had fresh apricots before, such a huge difference from the store bought ones. Plus, I love trees and I don’t mind if the birds get most of the fruit because I love birds too.

I have had ONE lesion removed. I’m a big baby and that hurt so much that I declared myself to be allergic to the sun. Long sleeves, long pants and a big floppy hat became my usual garb and I started buying sunscreen by the gallon. An unforeseen byproduct is that people think I’m the baby of the family instead of the oldest because the sun ages your skin something terrible.

I’m liking the above ideas of selling it. At least you would recover a little of the money that sneak stole from you.

I’m so happy you got your produce bag! Have you ever had an apple cucumber salad? Totally yum IMHO.

I am so excited for you. Remember that we want pictures and lots of them!!!
