[OLD] Have As Good A New Monday MMP As Possible

Not at all! Rural northern Minnesota. I was born and raised in southern California, I moved up here in December. First time I’ve lived outside the CA Inland Empire.

Thanks, so you are mostly due north of me (Lincoln, Nebraska). I vacationed with my kids and parents for many years in Fergus Falls and I have a brother who lives in St. Cloud so I have fond associations with Minnesota.

I visited Minneapolis a couple years ago and just loved it, so when circumstances demanded that I relocate, Minnesota was the first place I looked! I’m glad I was able to find a position and come here, even if I’m way further from the Twin Cities than I had hoped.

There’s a lot to be said for being surrounded by hearty, good-hearted, just plain nice Midwesterners (said by someone who grew up in Iowa ). Even if it isn’t exactly the locale you wanted. The Twin Cities are going to be so much fun to visit! The museums, the music, the foods (some amazing cuisines there). Plus the wonders of ‘hot dish’ of course.

Hurray Boo! I’m so glad you are back, I was worried.

Dang about your roomie and I hope you aren’t storing her stuff for the rest of your life.

What kind of washer do you have? One of those small apartment units? I once lived with a machine that couldn’t handle three pair of jeans at once, not fun at all.

Helps you worry. I’m still hoping it is just ice as well.

It’s a beautiful day already and I cannot breathe. I’ve been keeping my allergies under control with claritin but sometimes the pollen can overwhelm them. It sucks because today is Tai-chi and you kinda need to be able to breathe while doing it.

Today was a surplus produce day and waiting in line with my windows open was a big mistake, cause we line up next to a park with lots of growing and flowering things. Today we got squashes, tomatoes and what looks like home grown plums and oranges. We also got a large bag of frozen shrimp which was a first. We like them and are happy to get them, just never got them in a surplus box before.

GG and VBC currently have the zoomies and I just heard something crash in the living room. TTYAL

Mu washer is a small portable that rolls over to connects to the kitchen sink. Which means when washing clothes you can’t do much else in the kitchen. It can handle small loads, like maybe 8 shirts at a time.
It’s really okay for us unless I have to wash something big like a comforter.
My dryer is really small, 110 amps and takes forever to dry anything.
I have a drying rack and a small portable clothes line that I use when the weather is nice.
Clothes go from the washer to the drying rack until they are almost dry, then they go in the dryer for fluffing up.
It’s better than having to go up and down the basement stairs, and way better than going to the laundry mat.
If I got back on a schedule of doing a load a day or every other day, it’s not so bad. When it backs up, it’s bad because of the dryer taking so long.

Afternoon all. Shopping is done, almost hit $200 at the register on the nose ($199.57), so I may be a poorer man but at least I’m a well-stocked one. Got the heater back on and will leave it that way until around 1pm when I head over to do my swimming-n-sauna (yeah, it’s got lots of protections and fail-safes, but I don’t like leaving something that hot in the on position while I’m out of the house).

Sari, never had that sort of washer/dryer hookup, have a room between the kitchen and garage that holds my washer/dryer. Hope the backup gets taken care of.

JtC, I can’t for the life of me imagine that pipes under 9-10" of concrete have managed to erode their way through that and into my living room. Something got spilled, and given that I do not use coasters on the sectional, it wouldn’t surprise me at all. Once I got it dry enough I’ll spray some of that ‘spray-n-vacuum’ stuff over it and hopefully it won’t look too bad.

Niner, I hope Minnesota continues to grows on you, there is always the chance something will come up that lets you get closer to MSP.

BBBoo, what are the odds roomie comes back one day and wants to resume her previous life with you? Sounds like it may be a possibility.

OK, need to check an injury report (I am the “Safety Coordinator” for the Soccer league) and get dressed for swimmin’. All y’all take care.

Yeah, but I’d have to have this app open.

Text me, if you’re in crisis mode. I may still not see it right away, but you have a better shot.

I’ll P.M. you my phone number.

A wringer washer and clothesline is better than the laundromat!

Evening, mumpers! It’s been a very busy day here…so I am rather late catching up with everything. It’s allegedly 12c/54f with a predicted high of 13c/55f, and cloudy. It was raining as I was walking home from the station so those clouds were of the wet sort. Weather app says “It’s cloudy, but I checked my pockets and it turns out I have zero fucks left to give”.

Good to see you back, BBBoo, but sorry to hear about roomie leaving you in the financial pit. That’s an awful thing to do, and to such a lovely person :frowning:

I have retained little, although it’s been a busy day it’s also been somewhat unproductive. My new office is really nice, I have a seat by the window and a view across the grass towards the new library building. We’re on the 3rd floor (4th to you 'murricans) and there are people in the office who actually like to open windows!

So far I have been to collect my new laptop, came back and set that up, had a tour of the building, then a “building induction” which is largely fire escapes, emergency exits, evac chair locations and stuff like that. Then a team meeting, then a bit of documentation to sort out, and after that I decided to go home.

For various reasons, the team manager has been at sixes and sevens this week so she’s promised me a proper discussion on Friday when we can sort out my hours, and what specific things she wants me to cover. I’ve got two direct reports so I’ll need to arrange regular meetings with them, and then get stuck into whatever needs doing. One of them is on leave next week so I’ll see what needs to be picked up on her work, that will give me a chance to get used to some of the things they do.

Should have been at the pub tonight with friends but they both have the lurgy so we cancelled, and I have a restful evening on the sofa planned instead.

I survived my surgery. For awhile there I had a very pretty 5/8" x 1-1/8" open divot in the crown of my scalp in the usual male pattern baldness area. Which for me is a bit thin, not bald.

The doc sutured in closed it and now I have a 1-1/2" long line of stitches running transverse back there under a mongo bandage. Most of the scar should disappear under my hair soon enough. Only to emerge like an old shipwreck in a few more years when the hair back there finally quits growing.

The skin on most of my head feels kinda stretched; there just isn’t much slack up there. The prophylactic Tylenol is on board, the Lidocaine will be wearing off soon, and I’m ensconced in my comfy chair w y’all.

Glad to hear most of you are having a progress-filled day. And that we’re all posting in the same thread again.

I had to look that up; means a not identifiable sickness but feeling lousy…thank you, boo fae, I have found a new word today.

I typed in laundromat and got told that isn’t a word

Trying to find out if trephination really works?

Thank you.

48F and NOS, high 49, low 30 with a 50% chance of rain/snow. The weather gods seem to be confused. Around here the global warming climate change seems tilted in favour of lower temperatures.

And Buddy is now on our lease and his pet deposit paid. He’s fully officially ours.

I’m not a big fan of discourse’s spellchecker either.

I’ve always been a horrible speller, it’s pretty bad when I can spell better than a spellcheck program.

Hurry for Buddy! He doesn’t have any idea how lucky he really is

Didn’t know the word either … I guess that’s how folks on the other side of The Pond say “blurf.”

… and for our next language lesson, may I please get a translation for:

I could google it, I guess, but y’all have a way with words & it’s more fun to get your versions!

(If I’m “at eights” would that be better, or worse?)

Scalp scar buddies! Get ready for hairdressers endlessly asking what the scar’s from. I was taken aback the first time someone asked me about mine while getting my hair done, I can’t imagine being so bold as to openly ask about a stranger’s scars… But it’s happened a half-dozen times since then. I guess some hairdressers in particular are just cast from bold brass!

Edit: Now that I think of it, since it’s not visible unless you’re up close and personal with the scalp… Maybe LOTS of people would be so bold as to ask about it, but hairdressers are just the only ones who see it.

My mood has been up and down all day today. I was grumpy this morning for a variety of reasons and decided a nap was the best plan. When I woke up, Hubby told me the shop had called and my van was ready to be picked up! I immediately started messaging my friend who told me they’d take me to get the van since Hubby’s for us still FUBARed only to be told that he’s a bit high at the moment and had barely any gas in his car. After figuring things out, we decided I’m driving my car up to get him, we’re going to BtY’s school to pick him up when he gets out of school at 4, over to the metro bus to pick up CtE, dropping them both off at home, getting to the shop before they close at 5, dropping my car off at my house then taking him home in my van.

While trying to figure all of this out, my Dad messaged for me to call him. He had the surgery yesterday to put in the catheter and, of course, no one called to let me know how it went out anything else. He’s in a lot of pain because he had a lot of scar tissue in his belly. He hasn’t been sleeping. He both wants everything like his mail and computer now and doesn’t. I’m going to try talking to him again tomorrow and hoping he isn’t hurting as much.

While on the phone with him, CtE called because they were feeling down. At least they didn’t ask to come home from school early. But, as per usual, I said the wrong thing (“you’ve only got a couple hours left of school”) and plunged the depression down a little more.

Now I’ve got to go quickly clean out my car, put gas in it and drive 45 minutes to pick up my friend. But the important thing is I’ll have my van back at the end of it. That’s worth any frustration right now.

Funeral mass is over. Now I’m at the cemetery.
