[OLD] Have As Good A New Monday MMP As Possible

I think the brace hurts more than it helps. Tomorrow is shots day. I’m debating whether or not to wear it for the 5-mile walk (round trip). I walked to the pharmacy, and coming home, which is uphill, was murder.

What a kind man you are! Thank you.

Is this a braunschweiger trip? Inquiring minds want to snoop.

FCM, sorry daughter’s car needs pricey repairs.

sari, Ripple is such a sweetheart! Also, dogs aren’t supposed to be sweet to vets. It’s considered high treason, and if word got out, a dog could lose butt-sniffing privileges.

You have my sympathies. The audio book I’m listening to now is In Cold Blood. I’d never read it, and it’s supposed to be a masterpiece. It got pretty dark, so I took a break from it, but it really is brilliant. My next audiobook is going to be something relatively cheery, like Rainbows and Unicorns: The Richard Simmons Story.

Boo, I hope you’ve found a way to rejoin us.

Nope, this is the major monthly stockup, I get a few things on Moanday (like bananas and milk, but most of the stuff is my once-a-month trip. Freezer needs stocking, I am low on my Instant Breakfast mix, and Kroger has a special on 12-pack Pepsi products, Braunsweiger stockage is good until close to my birthday in April. Oh, and I am down to 54 rolls of toilet paper, so need to pick up a couple 12-packs lest swampy has the vapors…

that’s how my aunt’s name is pronounced… she lived in san jose CA and for years and complained everyone thought she was Hispanic …yeah shes a drama queen ,

   first time I’ve laughed in a week or longer

Got my iPad home and finally charged enough to let you’all know I’m back.

It’s a long story, so tomorrow. Final bill less than a hundred $ and the repairperson was so very kind and empathetic to my panic about my cognitive wheelchair.

I left an older iPad (meaning at least 6 years old, since my cognitive wheelchair one is 5 years old and replaced it) there for them to unlock or scrub or reset or whatever the voodoo they do is so that I can have them load what’s on this newer larger iPad onto the little old iPad so I will have a backup so I won’t have to go through that heart stopping panic again next time something goes wrong. Lent the older smaller iPad to my now ex-roommate’s teenager to use when Covid pushed her schooling on-line. Said teen locked it and is estranged from us all so couldn’t unlock it. It had been a paperweight for several years. Shop wasn’t sure what it would be able to do since we don’t know what generation it is and whether it can be updated to what the big iPad is running. Again, it’s all voodoo to me and I’m at the mercy of computer repair folks. This shop is a local concern and seems to have old-fashioned customer-facing kindness, totally non-scornful of clueless gray-haired old ladies.

They called just before closing and said they had gotten it unlocked and back to factory reset so tomorrow I’ll take this iPad with my whole life on it (not kidding-5,000 grandchildren pictures as well as my lifeline to Mumperville) and they will see if/what/how much they can download onto the little iPad as my safety net/life raft backup. If they can ‘mirror’ it I can reduce risk to my big iPad Pro by leaving it at home and carrying the little back up one with me when I leave the house.

Then I’ll need one of youse guys to come by my house and get the backup hooked up to my wireless internet.

I was too upset last night to sleep much. It was so bad I rooted around in my medicine cabinet and found an antique Xanax I had tapered off of a couple of years ago. I literally chewed it I needed relief so much from that horrid ‘jumping outta my skin, heart in my throat’ pure panic. Have I ever mentioned I don’t particularly enjoy living alone? My beloved Siamese cat could care less if I need emotional support as long as her food bowl is full. Good thing she is so pretty.

Thank you all for your kind concern and hopeful good wishes. They worked!

 he cats coped with trips to the vet. Neither likes car travel (and they’re both quite vocal about it), and turns out Buddy is not a fan of being in a carrier. At least he didn’t even try to bite or claw anyone. He did find an under-the-table hiding spot while we were in the exam room waiting for the actual vet (he was on a harness and leash, so retrieving him wasn’t difficult). I’ve gotten cuddles, purrs, and affection from both since they got home, so I think I’ve been forgiven.

Buddy is now chipped, so he’s officially ours as far as we’re concerned. DH even set up a Facebook group for him, with the original intent of communicating with any other households he hangs out with, but of course once he’s wearing a harness with a tag supplying the info for his group, he barely goes out at all.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It is raining

: takes a bow :

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 68 and N.O.S. for the day. I suppose we are in our Pre-Easter cool down. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. Since red has caused a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for Cook Out, we shall also procure burgers and fries from there for N.O.L. for the main feed of the day. Other than that the usual sloth and general overall uselessness shall prevail.

Boo welcome back! Glad the ipad woes were fixable and not too spendy. Hope all the backups work. It’s good you have a local place that is customer facin’ and friendly.

Pilot hope the surgery goes well today.

sari hope Ripple is more himself today.

MOOOOOOM yikes on daughter’s car repair bill. It’s good y’all can help her out.

Nellie hope your daughter and your knee are better soonest.

Nettie glad you have been forgiven and glad to know Buddy is now chipped.

MetalMouse happy shoppin’ trip. Good to know you take tp stockage seriously. Hope the carpet is all dried out this mornin’.

True Fish hooray for good doc checkup. Hope BtY is doin’ better today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of all bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Life can be just so difficult!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I fried onions with our burgers last night, and they burnt a bit - the fragrance lingered long into the evening! At least it wasn’t too unpleasant - like burnt popcorn!

Dammit - I know that apostrophe doesn’t belong.

Are you looking for a new roomie? I’m not volunteering, but wondering if I missed something in a recent post. My sieve of a brain, yanno… But yay for iPad repair!! And Yay for helpful, non-scornful computer folk! We have a local shop in Leonardtown that has treated us well in the past.

The customer service rep at American Standard is sending us 2 terlit repair kits! We only need one at the moment, but we’ll now have a spare. She was very helpful and prompt in replying - I am properly impressed. We really do like the terlits, but the seals are less impressive.

Food Lion is playing games with Coke prices. I suspect the days of 5/$10 are long gone. Today’s sale is BOGO, which translates to $3/6-pack, which is like last month’s 4/$12. Whatever. I’ll be getting some to keep our stock, um, stocked. Heaven forbid we run out and have to pay full price!!!

Daughter’s spring break starts next Thurs, so I’ll have almost 2 full weeks sans kids. I’m hoping we can get a big part of the boat chore checklist checked off. Of course, weather will play a big part, so we shall see.

May your Wednesday not suck too much!

Morning. I’m not awake enough to know if good is appropriate yet. It probably will be, if I don’t freeze bringing CtE to the bus. It’s 38F/3C here in Nashville right now. I’ve got to take CtE to the bus in about 8 minutes and they’re grumping at me because I reminded them to take their meds and asked them to help out with putting a load of dishes in before we leave. I don’t have the energy for grumping from them.

I’ll be back with more direct replies after I bit. I have read, I just don’t have brains retention or time at the moment.

Times like these, I really wish caffeine had th intended effect on me…

Good morning all, it’s 02006KT 10SM -RA FEW070 OVC110 09/03 A3023 RMK AO2 RAB43 SLP234 , and forecast is 2909/3006 05005KT P6SM VCSH BKN110.
It’s just not as entertaining as the weatherguys freaking out while waving at ominous looking red blobs on their map.

Note: Surprised I could still decode that (although “SLP” had me stumped for a bit).

Yesterday was some type of medical test with various cruel fasting rules (no coffee or chocolate? Inhumane, I say.). Next week is a test with the word “nuclear” in the description. Hopefully I’ll be bitten by a spider during the procedure, so I can start cleaning up some of the problems 'round here. Looks like we’re in need of a few superheroes, and the Libertarian candidate failed, despite the animal kingdom’s attempts to help out during the election. Does anyone else remember this? It still cracks me up for some reason

After yesterday’s medical stuff (in another town, fer chrissakes) I drove back home and finished the last paperwork tasks regarding the auto accident last year. I had to send evidence of my expenses to someone at the insurance company with “subrogation” in their title. They claim I’ll get these expenses and my deductible refunded somehow, but not holding my breath.

And also resume PT this week, since a lot of the progress seems to been lost while I was gone.

For today, replace an ailing fresh water pump in the RV, and maybe wash away all the salt/sand coating from last week’s trip. It’s amazing how much spray gets on your stuff after a week at the beach.

And in this week’s weird news, my sibling’s flight home got canceled because one pilot was robbed while away from the airport, losing all his credentials (or maybe flight bag?). Apparently there wasn’t time to replace everything before the flight. Can’t find a news story about it, but that’s what they told me on the phone yesterday.

Yaay! It’s scary how much of our lives are represented by a fragile collection of 1’ and 0’s. Glad everything’s working again.

Yikes. Here’s hoping this turns around. I know nothing about braces (so far), but hope they are something one becomes acclimated to over time. Wishing for the best.

Also, best wishes regarding LSLGuy’s procedure.

Oh well, hope all goes well for everyone today. Off to get more coffee and breakfast, which I can thankfully have today. I hate fasting.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s currently 43 degrees, dark and cloudy outside. The expected high is 62 (late in the afternoon) and it will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy all day. I never once saw the sun yesterday, and I swear it wanted to storm because it would become very ominously dark, and crazy wind gusts would blow through, and then things would lighten up for about 20 minutes or so. The crazy gusts would blow through again and then calm down. Repeat for the whole day.

We received some very exciting news from my son yesterday. He’s been promoted and is getting a raise. He will be a Transportation Technical Engineer for the state DOT and will have a team of three reporting to him. He’s been a senior budget analyst for a few years and has been trying to move on. He kept quiet about applying for this position so he didn’t jinx it (his words), and he found out yesterday that he’d been selected. I’m so happy for him. He still reports to the same manager, but he’s okay with that because he likes this manager. His last manager was a nightmare.

I have no doubt he’ll do very well in this new role.

nellie, I’m so sorry the brace hurts. I hope the knee starts improving soonest.

LSLGuy, I hope the procedure goes well.

BBBoo, so glad the iPad was fixable, and it didn’t cost a fortune.

I need to make an uncomfortable call today at work. I don’t really want to do it, but I’m hopeful a call and follow-up email will produce some action from this individual, or at least a real progress report.

Other than that, my day is filled with meetings, making contact with some members of our sister agencies, and writing some procedure/policy changes for our state. Fun times.

Time to finish my coffee and tidy the kitchen.

Take care.

G’morning all. Up, clean, & fed while Her Ladyship yet snoozes cutely.

Ubering to doc in about half an hour. This is rather minor stuff, not much more exciting or hazardous than visiting the dentist. But thanks for all the fine supportive thoughts nonetheless.

Good to hear BBB has her iPad back. FYI dear Boo, if the thing is configured properly, then losing the machine to failure or outright “misplaced it someplace unknowable” is a total non-event. Get another one from Amazon (used they’re pretty cheap and there are people who will help you with that if necessary), turn it on, log it in, and suddenly your life history reappears automagically. All 5000 grandkid pix, your notes about whatever, all your appointments for the next 6 months, everything.

Key words being “… if configured properly” BEFORE it fails or is misplaced. When you go to pick up the old iPad, be sure to ask the nice guys at the repair shop about that for your newer iPad.

I keep making the mistake of looking at Facebook and seeing thoughts and prayers and knowing that nothing is going to change. I’m angry and depressed and so tired of it all. I had a small, Pit-worthy rant in my own FB this morning. Not that those on my flist are blase about three problems that keep upping the count of dead kids and teachers but… I’m just so tired, y’all.

Focusing on things that will depress me far less, for CtE to the bus, no problem this morning. If course, they didn’t help around the house before school like I’d asked but that’s something I’m used to. Once I’ve gotten BtY to school, I’ll focus on getting things done around here. Still not sure if I’m going to listen to an audio book or some Queensrÿche while cleaning. It’ll depend on whether I can push this mod off.

Eh. I’m just in a mood. Ignore me for now. I’ll feel better a little later and make some replies then.

Morning all. The wet spot is still a bit wet, so I have my space heater over there on full blast to try and dry it out. I should move the furniture, but it’s right next to the middle of the sectional and I am leery about trying to take that apart (will have to google it), so we’ll see how it goes. The spot hasn’t grown so I don;t think it’s a plumbing leak, I suspect I (unwarying) dropped some ice down between the cushions and the meltwater is running. We’ll see what develops.

Meanwhile it’s cooler outside, 43F heading for 65F later, but still no sign of rain.

BBBoo, very happy that you are back on-line with us!! And a good idea to have a backup just in case. I have a laptop, mostly for travel, but it also serves as a backup.

Congrats to son, Taters, hope it continues to go well for him. And hope the call isn’t too uncomfortable and gets results.

yankers, I know, fasting just ain’t right… And yeah, that pilot story is one for the books, but I guess with thousands of pilots out there, most on the road and in hotels, it can happen.

FCM, best of luck with the terlits. And yeah, the prices for a 12-pack on sale is 4 for $15, I can remember not to long ago you could get them for 4 for $12 or 3 for $10. Soda prices are crazy these days.

Nettie, glad Buddy got chipped and the trip was (relatively) painless for all.

OK, need to finish up the list and check the spot. So far the ache on my side is not bothering me (it only starts up when I sneeze or cough), hope whatever was causing it has gone away now.

Take care and have as good a day as possible, all.

Yay for TaterTot’s promotion! It feels like he just graduated from high school…

Tobias and I made a quick run to Food Lion and now we’re home. Daughter’s car will be ready some time today, so I’ll bring Roxy here after school and they can all sup with us. That way she can get her car and leave our truck with us. I have a chickie that I want to rotiss, so it works out. Yay.

Good morning, kids! It’s ten below here (-23 c) but clear, hoping there’s no more snow.

I’m dipping outta work early to go take the Minnesota driving test and get my license squared away. I have put it off longer than I was legally supposed to, and some police officers kindly but firmly encouraged me to get it done ASAP. Anyway, since I might get my picture taken (I’m unclear if I get that stuff done today, or at a second appointment) I am halfway-dolled-up and feel mildly cute.

I was listening to Neutral Milk Hotel’s “April 8th” from the “Ferris Wheel on Fire” EP. on the way in and practicing singing it, I think I’m getting a pretty good handle on it. Apparently it’s supposed to be about Henry Darger, but for me it just works beautifully as the kind of mournful plaintive love-cry song that I like best.

Welcome back and nice to meet you! I’m glad the tech shop folks were able to help you out. As LSL said above, they should be able to help you set it up such that the stuff on your iPad is backed up independently and won’t be lost if any one device fails.

It’s friggin’ SNOWING y’all!
I’m not complaining - it’ll be a looong time before I’m sick of snow - but I am midly astonished.

Have you spoken to the doctor about this? It shouldn’t be causing more pain; that could be a sign of further damage, and we don’t want that!

Wander on over to the “jokes” thread if you haven’t been there yet; there’s some real zingers in it.

{ gentle tacklehug }

{ makes soothing, shushing noises }

There, there, dear. The worst is over. I hope you get some proper rest tonight, and maybe an afternoon nap, too.

Wait, that string of gibberish means something? It’s not just, well, a string of gibberish?!?

Conga-rats to him!

NO! No ignoring. Sending virtual hugs from afar instead!

Naw, it all moved here to the western Mitten State. :snowflake:

Happy Hump Day!

Messed up morning, no daycare and no park.
They’ll get over it.
It was 35 feels like 30 degrees this morning.
I’ll think about a visit to the park later today.
Ha! Who am I kidding.

Ripple seems back to normal.
He ran over my bare feet this morning in pursuit of Adam.
My son caught Adam in the sink again, trying to lick the dog bowls. The dogs lick their bowls clean, but
he has to check.

I need to tackle Mount Laundry today.
I’ve been saying that for over a week. If I had a normal washer and dryer, I could get it done in a few hours.
I have a tear in the sleeve of my coat that needs to be fixed.

Congrats to Tater son!

I hope your knee feels better soon Nellie

I’ve wasted enough time this morning. Time to get busy.

Now that we had last week’s MMP inadvertently revived yet again by several people including me I’d like to offer a Monday Modest Proposal.

Whoever starts a new MMP should go to the old one and report its first post asking the Mods to tweak the title to add [OLD] on the front.

That’s not too hard, lets us keep our “clever” weekly titles unsullied with an ugly businesslike date, and might even reduce dumb mistakes like mine.

I just checked. The late posts to last week's MMP made during this week are 20% as many as this MMP has total so far.

It was such a huge relief! if I kept a gratitude journal, I would have put it in there. Instead, I just told all of you. That’s more fun anyway.

Glad to hear there are more and that you’ve got one. I thought I was so clever giving birth to an IT nerd but he grew up and flew the nest. Ungrateful kid!

I had a roomie for four years, who fell in love over the internet and moved away (to Winchester VA) abruptly 3 weeks ago. Supposedly there was a sure thing job there for her paying lots more than hers here, but of course that fell through. Now she is there, most of her stuff is packed in boxes in her old room here because of course the moving company took her money and refused to load the rest until she forked over a gob more of cash (which she didn’t have). It was sudden and she left owing me thousands of badly needed dollars. When will I learn? I am way too soft-hearted and now I will be paying the piper.

I’ve gotten used to the house having just me in it again but the first week was weird. I actually thought I was hearing things but I’m back to my solo self comfort level now. I did it before just fine and I can do it again. My volunteer job teaching English to refugees twice a week has been so great to have. Gives me lovely people in my world that actually want to have conversations with me.

Heck, I’m hoping you get it done early and dash off on an impromptu three day cruise :motor_boat:! Take your toothbrushes and a change of clothes.

I’ve despaired of Coke prices ever returning to their senses. Coke Zero is my preferred but with these prices I buy Diet Pepsi if that is what is on sale. Mostly, I’m trying to drink less but I gotta have some bubbly. The days of 3 Coke 12 packs for $11 are over.

It’s 33 degrees here in windswept Nebraska, if that is any comfort. We had snow on Sunday.

Thanks. Yup, scary is what it was alright.

And Joe, the computer guy, was so nice about it. Of course it helped that he was my age and understood how tech is for some of us geezers. Next time I hope I remember to take to him first and hold the panic.

As usual, good advice and will do.

Here too. See above. Those 2 liters of Coke Zero that used to be on sale for 99 cents every other week? Last week at Aldi’s-$2.89. Sheesh.

Next time I’m PMing you before chewing aged Zanax. You’re often up late, which is always when this stuff happens, right?

I can’t resist asking, if you don’t mind, a vague hint of where you are? Far reaches of Alaska? Greenland?

I’ll try to remember~it’s a great idea. I don’t often originate our new MMP because I’m not nearly as clever as most of you guys, but even if it isn’t the originator of the new MMP, but the first one of us who notices could go back and ask to have [OLD] inserted in last week’s.
