(OLD) Hey! It's The May-Day MMP!

Well yes. But what about the cookies? Did your wife add the rest of the dry ingredients and bake them? Was that batch a total loss? Enquiring minds need to know these things. Cookies are at stake here.

Seriously, glad to hear the medical scare went OK. Being relieved to get a migraine is certainly an odd but completely sensible take on things.

The general term for a disturbance of vision is scotoma. There are lots of causes but migraines are certainly one of the more common causes. Transient dark spots are one of the variations.

Been a lazy day here with a darn fine nap in it. During which I both switched off all my alarms and all my other phone noises. Yaay me.

My crane workers started arriving about 8am but did nothing but sleep high in the sky with less than a quorum until about noon when they began working steadily. Net of a lunch break.

Now at 5pm they’ve managed to reassemble their staging device, hoist it up about 6 stories into the ready position, and they look like they’re about an hour away from removing another tower segment. Yesterday they were at this point at about 2pm. Going to be a late evening for them, and doubly so if they do what they did yesterday and return the staging device to the lower levels and partially disassemble it again.

Color me confused by the leisurely pace.

Aaand … I posted a few minutes too soon. The crane guys have gone home for the day, leaving the staging device up top and almost ready for action tomorrow. If they get going promptly in the morning they might even get 2 segments removed before the weekend kicks in.

I wonder if tomorrow being Cinco de Mayo will affect the work? In SoCal where I grew up it’s a de facto holiday in the building trades because of the vast number of laborers of Mexican descent. And yes, I’m aware that in Mexico itself, Cinco de Mayo is much less of a holiday than Americans make of it.

Around here we have many Latino laborers, along with Caribbean, but not many of the Latins are Mexican. But most folks of whatever heritage are happy for any excuse they can find for a party.

We bought a house! :grinning: :champagne: :cocktail:

Well, we’re buying a house. it won’t close until the first week of June. Which gives the universe a whole month to screw things over. but we’re hopeful. :crossed_fingers: It’s 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1548 sq feets, all on one level. It’s about 5 miles from a small hospital and a pretty nice aquatic center. About 30 miles to a Costco and a Trader Joes. Much as we love our little house, this’ll be better all the way around. Wifey is very excited. me too, but I try not to count my chickens.

More as things develop.

Ocular migraines are not fun. Sometimes the ice pik occurs, sometimes not. I’m always grateful for the “not” ones.

@Chefguy I’m very relieved to hear you are okay. To be sure though, perhaps you ought to hand those cookies over to me in case they caused it.

@silenus, that is terrible news. My condolences to you and those who knew her.

Got new brakes for the car today. Always make sure you have good brakes and tires. Those are the bits that keep you alive. I’ve got a lot of rubber bits in the car that need replacing after 10 years, but they must wait as I couldn’t afford to do it all at once. Back to the job hunt.

The cookie dough needs to sit overnight to think about its sins. Seriously, cookie dough benefits from sitting for a day or so. Makes them taste mo’ bettah.

Caulking is done. Workday is done. Concrete is swept, and artefacts placed. Meatloaf is in the oven.

OK, I have to drop this in, just because it made me smile on an otherwise non-smiley day:

Start of my conference period, a strange woman walks into my room. Saw her lanyard and figured “crisis counselor.” I was right. Came by to check on me. What made me smile is that she was one of my students 15 years ago. What they say about parents taking care of the kids until the kids are taking care of the parents - it works in teaching, too.

That’s magnificent. What a beautiful moment to have.

Is this true for all cookies? I always thought I was lazy when I let my dough sit - I was actually making better cookies???

Hugs to you - can’t even imagine what you’re going thru…

FCD is home - we’re getting together all the paperwork for the new apartment. Thank goodness for online banking - I was able to download all the statements they want. Plus I cleared a space in the garage where we’ll be storing some of their stuff till BIL gets his place. So much fun… :stuck_out_tongue:

Ursala Kitteh was not happy about going to the V.E.T. Upshot is her limping is arthritis and she got a shot of Solensia, a monoclonal antibody recently approved for kitty arthuritis. She is home sulking but otherwise fine. Got her nails trimmed.

Up from naptime, having a gin&tonic. I had to turn the heat on this morning.

{{{{Quietly}}}}

That is cool.

an odd, but effective way to show you are OK, and have not been replaced by a changeling or T-1000.

We’re all Irish/Mexican/German/Mongolian when the beer begins to flow. :beers:

Congrats!

Yay!

Howdy, all! I usually don’t post in the evenings: when I’m on my couch I use my iPad for internetting, and posting with that interface is just annoying enough that I typically don’t. But currently I’m in my home office, on my personal computer, multitasking while in some Zoom training (the NAACP’s Civil Rights Advocacy Training Institute, which is basically how to be a branch officer/committee chair). It’s night 3 of 3 and the one breakout I’m interested in doesn’t start until 8:40pm, so in the meantime I’m listening to random topics in order to get the attendance credit. After three nights of 2.5-hour Zoom sessions I’m getting my completion certificate, darnit!

Holy shit. I am so sorry. :people_hugging:

(But that’s wonderful about the crisis counselor!)

Wow! I’m glad it was “just” a migraine.

I got migraines for about two years while I was going through menopause. Never had one before menopause started, and I didn’t have any nausea or light sensitivity so I didn’t recognize the first one and went to the ER when the pain became distracting/kept me from working. They would last for days; I even had one last for two weeks straight. I wound up seeing a neurologist, and finally got a prescription/found a combo that worked. She could never identify a cause: her best guess was hormones, which got confirmed when the migraines stopped after my last period.

Woot! Congrats!! :tada:

Cookie glad you and the other cookies are OK.

WetOne glad kitty is feelin’ better and hope she’s over her pout soon.

Bumba yay on the new digs!

Oopsie hope you get learnt up real good.

Good meatloaf. That’s why I always make two loaves, and freeze one before cooking; so that we can have meatloaf on a whim.

I confess I used boxed potatoes au gratin tonight. The box has been in the cupboard since SWMBO said she likes potatoes au gratin made from scratch, and we’re out of potatoes. They were good.

Also, Goo likes meatloaf.

doggio, iffen you’re real nice to the desk clerk when you’re hotelling in NashVegas, s/he’ll make sure you’re poured into your room. :stuck_out_tongue: Can’t help you much with Captain Hook though.

{{{Echo}}} We didn’t have much knowledge of real mangoes when I was growing up in Indiana sari. It was puzzling to me when I saw mango flavored something in my early teens and wondered why the heck someone would want green bell pepper flavored candy.

Salmon patties like the ones that shady talked about, sans chicken frying, were on the menu at least one Friday supper a month when I was growing up.

I’m so sorry about your student silenus. It was cool that you got to see another former student making a difference though. My retired schoolteacher sister found out early on that she would see a few tragic ends to her students, but tended to concentrate.on celebrating the ones who made it. Yes, you make a difference for some of them.

Congrats on the new house bumba!

Irked, came home, took the small beast to the dog park, came home, crashed / burned for a bit and am now beginning to feel somewhat less wiped out.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My Mom used to make salmon patties the same way. I’ve done it maybe twice, possibly 3 times in 43 years of marriage. But this gives me a bit of a hankering for it so I’ll buy a can tomorrow when I go Krogering.

Worked, got car back (looks very nice), mowed the front lawn-the clippings filled up 2 large containers which I then dragged to the curb ; will mow back yard either tomorrow or Saturday. Took Hub’s keys to the neighbor who owns a shop so he could figure out why there is some sort of liquid dripping underneath. Now I need to take trash and recyclables out to the big rolling containers and wheel them to the curb as well as move my car into the driveway so I don’t get a ticket in the morning (on trash day cars have to be off the street from 8am - 3pm).

Have caught up on reading the posts from the last 3 days but have not been able to retain much or formulate thoughts so Yays, Boos, Hugs, Noogies, Congrats, Condolences to all as appropriate/needed.

I was a Junior. When daughter & I visited a fashion exhibition at KSU sometime in the last 10 years, we spent time at the memorial; it was sobering.

Evening all. Soccer has been practiced, the girls are doing better, now to see if the weather cooperates for Saturday (rain is expected tomorrow night and early Saturday morning). Also got some pedaling in at the gym so a fair amount of exercise for this old body and pumper $72.50 worth of gas in the tank. Now for sloth and internettin’ and readin’.

Bumba, great news, sounds a lot like my place (3br, 2 baths, 1600 sq ft) and I hope you are happy there.

Flyboy, I read that as God likes meatloaf (and of course he does). And boxed potatoes are ok, long as you have meatloaf…

Oopsie*, never have done much Zooming, retired before it became a big thing, but nice that you can do it.

wet one, best wishes to Ms. Ursula, hope she overcomes the sulk.

quietly, when you teach your children well, and feed them on your dreams, it comes n so many wonderful ways…even in the midst of tragedy.

Never had migraines per se, when I was younger I would get severe headaches, especially if I had been out and active, and the only cure was throwing up, after which the headache would disappear completely. Must have stopped doing whatever caused them, I haven’t had one in 30 years (just watch karma come kick me in the butt).

Ok, into the night. Take care all.

Actually, I made it to my room in both cites. somehow.

I hate posing. But I got a new jacket and vest, and a cow-orker insisted on pictures.

Tweed hacket and vest, white shirt, Levi’s 501 jeans, and Alden 405 boots.

So here’s the fat, boring old fart.

My Mom used to make them like that back when we couldn’t eat meat on Fridays in the days before Vatican II
