(Old) Highlight of the day - Dyeing in the MMP

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 63F and cloudy outside, with 90% humidity. The expected high temperature is 77F, with peeks of sunshine and 50% humidity. I may or may not mow the lawn today.

It was nice and sunny yesterday morning, so I watered all my plants, cleaned the bird baths and refilled them, and took care of some other minor chores.

Late morning, I went to the plant nursery to score some coneflowers and whatever else I fancied. As luck would have it, it’s their 25th anniversary, so I scored 25% off on all plants. I have three or four coneflower plants in various colors, a strawberry shake hydrangea, some tall phlox, and some other items I’ve promptly forgotten. I realized I’d probably need more planters when I left, so I stopped at Wallyworld. I don’t often go there, but sometimes they have decent deals on planters and plant stands. I might return for a Korean fir shrub that I liked, too.

I wanted to get some cedar planters, but they didn’t have any, and I wanted some cast iron wheeled plant stands, which they also didn’t have. But I scored three or four attractive outdoor pots and another tall phlox plant. The pots were not that costly, so that was a bonus.

While I was out and about at the first nursery, it became uncomfortably humid, and the same was true at the Wallyworld garden center. I came home, drank water, changed clothes, and cooled down. I considered potting everything but took care of some other chores instead.

Today, I’ll do the usual Sunday laundry, possibly mow the lawn, and possibly put those plants in their pots, or at least get a start on that.

It’s supposed to warm up by the 4th, and we may see temps creeping into the 90s after the 4th. I would much rather it be damp on the 4th because of assholes with fireworks, but I can’t win them all.

Happy Doperversary, Shoe!

I put peanut butter on the bread heels and let the dogs eat them. However, I keep the heels until the end to keep the other bread fresher. When I was much poorer, my husband and I would split the heels so our final sandwiches from a particular loaf would have one good piece of bread and one heel.

Metal Mouse, I hope you win the bid for the better space on the train!

I am guilty of keeping stuff that I will probably find a better use for, but I’ve gotten much better at just donating or dumping stuff that no longer serves a purpose. My husband, not so much. There is STILL a computer monitor in the den that is no longer useful. Best Buy takes this type of stuff, but he can’t bestir himself to take care of it. It’ll probably fall to me to take it.

FCM, I’m sorry for the stuff with BiL and his mental health, on top of everything that is going on with MiL.

I should get my chores started.

HAHAHAHAHA! You made a funny joke!! I do try to keep like items together - a bin for chicken, a bin for poke, etc, but it gets to the point where I have to cram what I have into any available space, hence the adventure! Tho I do label sketty sauce, pulled poke, and chili since they look very similar in their freezer bags

Damned deer here have been noshing on my hosta, day lilies, coneflowers, and black-eyed susans. I am not amused!

I got my 81mg aspirin, plus some nestle crunch bars for the kids’ dessert. Weirdo Tobias doesn’t like ice cream! But I think they both like candy. We’ll see.

I need to clean a carton of strawberries and I don’t know what else, since mowage is out of the picture. It’s so hard to be me!!!

Medium cheddar omelette on toast with marge, and Vegemite sandwich has been consumed. Mrs. L.A. is making me go to church with her today.

Yep, searching dates or ranges of dates works fine. I frequently use that when I want to refresh my memory on posts relating to big events in my life.

Here, we’re on excessive heat warning and red flag (fire weather) warning. Today’s the last day for at least a week with projected highs below 100F (about 37.8C), and today’s predicted for 99F (about 37.2C). Wednesday’s supposed to hit 112F (about 44.4C). So of course with weather like this, we also have the Fourth of July, with all the amateur fireworks. SO glad I thought to buy fresh new fire extinguishers for the kitchen and cars. It’s about 9:15am Pacific as I type, and it’s already over 80 outside. Ugh.

Buddy’s not a thrilled kitty, either. He was definitely feeling unwell, so off to the vet. Turns out he’s anemic, probably due to an infection with Mycoplasma haemominutum. He’s now on antibiotics for about the next three weeks, 2x/day. This is a two-human project. DH holds, I dose. Thankfully, we were able to get this as a liquid. IME, it is MUCH easier to give a cat liquid meds than pills. He is getting treats after each dose to hopefully help him forgive the indignity and icky goo. Allie’s due for a checkup soon-ish and we’ll ask whether she’s caught her brother’s infection. She seems basically healthy aside from the impact of fleas, but she is definitely getting to “frail little old lady” stage.

Happy Doperversary, shoe! :cake:

Friday will be my 20-year Doperversary. Lessee…my cat was still alive (for another month), I was about to start grad school, I was driving a Nissan Sentra, and I was still a couple years away from meeting Significant Ex (my only romantic cohabitation so far). I no longer have any idea how I stumbled across the SDMB!

I’ve never liked the end pieces of bread loaves. Using them even for PB&J would be an act of desperation. I rarely have bread in the house anymore, but when I do – like others – I use the heels to keep the other slices fresher: by the time I get to them, they’re usually near enough to the end of their life that I don’t feel too guilty about tossing them.

After yesterday morning’s personal training session, I finally cleaned and rearranged the laundry room! Between the dryer lint and the fur and the cobwebs, it really needed a good vacuuming: that’s the only thing my canister vacuum gets used for anymore (the cleaners use their own), so after lugging it out of the 3rd BR closet and across the patio I decided to leave it in the laundry room. Maybe I’ll vacuum in there a little more often if it’s right there. Once the room was vacuumed I moved everything around except the washer and dryer, and the space looks and functions a lot better now.

Afterwards I took a shower, then grabbed some lunch and sat down at the computer for 3.5 hours: I took care of a bunch of volunteer-related administrivia, so the incoming co-chairs won’t have anything they need to do right away. Not my favorite way to spend a Saturday afternoon (and part of why I decided to resign), but I need to feel like I’ve done as much as possible before handing everything off.

At about 4:30pm I was finally able to move to the living room and start relaxing. A few hours later, I started building Notre Dame. I wound up skipping the unboxing on Friday evening, so first I put all of the bags in order and got the 287-page build instructions PDF pulled up on my iPad Air. Here are all 34 bags and 4,383 pieces:

There’s more table space off-camera. This one is going to take a while: it took 1 hr 43 min just to get through the first three bags! But, it’s already kind of cool-looking. It gets put together in 5 stages, mimicking how the cathedral was built; I’ll share in-progress photos after each stage.

This morning I did some more/final volunteer-related stuff, but I’ve decided that when I finish this post and am ready to head to the living room for lunch I will be done.

I’d toyed with checking out a couple of the yoga classes at my gym this morning, to the point of registering for them yesterday, but when I woke up I cancelled both registrations. If I didn’t have a rehearsal later I think I might actually have gone, but I decided I wasn’t up for being out of the house for 3.5 hours and then only having a couple of hours before needing to head to rehearsal. Plus, I wanted to finish the volunteer stuff, do some laundry, run the dishwasher, post here, etc. If I’d gone, I’d still be at the gym right now (12:15pm). Anyway, the class I’m the most interested in is also offered on Wednesday evenings (the other one is only on Sunday mornings), so I’ll try again then. The odds of actually going then are a little higher, because I was planning to quit work early that day anyway due to the next day’s holiday. But we’ll see.

I have to leave for rehearsal in a few hours (just about when the thunderstorms are supposed to start…yaaaay), so it’s time to reply to a few posts before transitioning to the living room and eating some lunch/watching some TV.

Thanks, Sari.

Woah! So, what was his nephew’s FIL doing there??

At this time of year, the evening sun through my big living room window is ridiculous – both way too bright and way too hot – so from roughly May-Sept I hang a blackout curtain in front of the blinds. I like the idea of putting something behind the blinds, though! You’ve given me something to think about…

Quoted for truth!!

Whenever I’m around my cousins’ kids (some of whom are in their 20s now), I make an effort to try to remember what it was like to be around my parents’ cousins when I was young…not disliking the “grownups,” just not knowing/feeling connected to them. I like to think that the effort helps my interactions be more “appropriate” (in their opinion).

(Don’t disabuse me!!)

I went to a writing conference and feel pretty confident afterward that I’m up to date in my writing and teaching of writing. Met some nice people and picked up information on writing contests and publishing opportunities. Today, I’ll write a couple of conference proposals and see if I have anything fit for sending out on 6/30-7/15 deadlines.

This afternoon, we’re cleaning for a while, then amending our order for blinds that actually work. Tomorrow, I’ll work on updating my will.

Flyboy, that’s good news about another Trader Joe’s!

Yupper. The school district I occasionally work for still has us fill out time sheets. A full page where you put in month in front of pre-printed days and hour in-hour out, then hand them to your supervisor. Why this can’t be done online is a mystery.

Happy cake day, shoe!

I fear I’m going to need to go to a doc. I’ve got two numb feet that I think are a result of the lyme. Although, from what I’ve read on the intertubes, there’s not much to do about it.

I suppose I COULD try Google, but why not ask you - what’s a weather cloth? Incidentally, while helping clear my Mom’s house for sale, her 70 year stash of fabrics and patterns were boxed and bagged by helpers - SHE had had it organized by a method she chose not to reveal, but helpers seem to have sorted by ‘top of pile goes in bottom of next box’ so it’s all effectively lost now. Is the fabric for your weather cloths now tucked in with the tea towels, and the patterns with the old National Geographic magazine maps?

This shows weather cloths - they’re fabric stretched between a rail and the deck or other structures. They’re typically custom made for each boat. I am using the old ones as patterns for the new ones, except I need to make a couple of measurements on the boat. And I assume the name means they protect some areas from weather. Or it’s OK if they stay out I the weather. No clue.

The grands and Trevor will be here in less than an hour. I’m worn out already! :joy:

Gonna be a long afternoon…

Church was wonderful.
Its only 65 out, I had to wear a sweatshirt.
Sitting here reading, wondering what tomorrows Mump headline will be.

Thanks for the nices wishes, everyone! I’ll admit, it looks pretty cool, seeing that slice o’cake!

Gonna be another busy day at work. Gotta go.

Metalmouse: hope the train museum and weather is going well.

FCM:

Q: When a happy couple goes out for a romantic Anniversary dinner and are back by 6pm, what do we call them?
A: Parents.

Seriously, congrats to them both for a good marriage and the resulting fine offspring. All of which gets you an extra grandkids day, or at least afternoon. So hooray for that too! Assuming you survive the onslaught of concentrated kidly energy.

Nettie: Good luck w heat, smoke, and fire.

Whoops; there goes my chance at MMPer romance after CFV flaked.

So Oopsie: How did you keep Bailey from making mischief out of your half-unpacked Lego extravaganza?

Yaay susan! Nice to receive some affirmation from folks in the know.

If you stay up late or get up early it can be whatever you want it to be. :hint::hint:

As to me …

Now 3pm on a rather blah day. After last report I got sheveled and then tackled breakfast as the clouds were breaking up. So I did indeed have albuminatin’ blackberrified balconatin’ baconatin’ while chaisin’ n’ loungin’ with ‘materific squeezin’s, toasttasticly meltiferous butterificated bread, n’ runny sunny yolkisms. While wearing shades and not much more’n a smile. 'Twas yummy & silly at the same time.

Then the clouds coalesced and it started to sprinkle again and I was promptly chased indoors. At least I got while the gittin’ was (briefly) good.

And now 5 hours later it has been nothing but gray and dripping or raining the whole time. An occasional rumble is heard even now, but nothing fierce or immediately nearby.

Which rain did support a very nice long and much-welcomed nap around noon. Ref FCM’s day, this is definitely not mowing weather.

:musical_score: :notes: It’s summer time and the RDOSin’ is easy :musical_note:

Cheers all!!

ETA: Good luck Shoe; all of the mitten state is counting on you to feed them!

The severe storm has entered phila. In an odd coincidence, the thunderclap that sounded like an explosion came just as the storm warning came on the Alexa device.

Man this storm is fierce! And came in fast! The cats and I are staying away from the windows. I would be in storm cellar in if I were in the Midwest.

Happy dopervesary, purplehorseshoe!

In other news I got a new bowl. It is now filled with chocolate covered cherries.

Poor Buddy. Poor humans.

Sunday chores are done and dinner (Italian sausage / zucchini soup) made and et. Now to fart around in the studio until hitting the hay.

'Afternoon, everyone.

Tomorrow the window washers will arrive to wash the outsides of all our windows, first and second floors, and also to clean the screens and clean out the outside tracks in our window frames.

So today I spent washing the insides of all the windows and cleaning out the inside tracks. This chore is horrible, but made a bit less so because I have a little narrow toothbrush (the one-use kind the dentist gives out) and I could clean down in that track a lot more easily than I have in the past.

I’m bushed and my back is sore so I’m going down for a nap in just a few. But first I’m going to check on my new herb garden in pots: basil, tarragon, chives, garlic chives, Thai basil and holy basil. I’ve never seen, smelled or tasted holy basil, but I hear it’s what they use in Thailand in their curries and salads. I’m curious about it so I elected to grow some from seed this year and see what I think.

Howdy Y’all! We honed our RDOS skills all day today. Sloth, nappage, day drinkin’, more sloth. Sup got fixed and et and the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Next up is Netflix, chill, and (big surprise!) popcorn.

Metal_Mouse shall we cross appropriate/inappropriate appendages for your big for a bigger bed?

Nettie hope Buddy is feelin’ better soonest, poor baby!

Oopsie ND is one hyuuuge project. I am sure it will be the coolest once done, however.

Pilot that is some awe inspirin’ RDOS stuff there! I am so proud of you!

anyone hear from jane recently? I need to know if George’s ok…

I decided to walk to the corner store. I went out with a flannel shirt with a hoodie.( yes, pants too)
Nah, a bit cold.
Yes, June 30th, I had to wear my winter coat. Global warming is fickle.
Spaghetti for supper.

It was cool in the basement and Roxy asked me to light a fire! That girl ain’t right!:rofl::rofl:

They’re gone and it’s quiet again. When I came up to start supper, I saw the freezer was left ajar again. That woman is making me crazy again!

Supper was mac-n-cheese and whomp biscuits with sausage gravy. Interesting mix, no? Tobias had strawberries on the side. Lots of mac-n-cheese leftovers.

The dishwasher just finished and chillage is in high gear. The big question now is whether we’ll get rain tonight or not.

I messed around in the studio and finished up three Halloween cards, two of which were inspired by shoe and Monkey watching the bats.
