(Old) I owe, I owe, so off to Mump I go - A Tax Season MMP

I congratulate you on your devotion to scientific rigor!

Some of us are nice, dammit! But, yeah, I agree. It was especially difficult when I figured out my mother isn’t the paragon I used to think she was. Plus she doesn’t like onions! What’s wrong with that woman???

Yeah, for certain. When we’ve taken shorter cruises, I never paid much attention to activities, since we had more in-port days. But this time, there are 12 days at sea. I may even break down and play Bingo, and I pretty much don’t like Bingo. Heck, I may drag FCD to dance lessons!

:open_mouth:
The end is near!!!

Even if my mother wanted to drive us (hahahahahaha) we were a 1-car family, and Dad drove that car to work.

I’ve canceled our transfer from the ship to the airport in Buenos Aires since we’ll be on a tour that will end up at the airport. So we’ll get a whopping $68 back. Next, I need to get FCD’s license so I can do check-in for our rental on Thurs - oddly enough, the cheapest option is a pick-up truck! We’ll get it Thurs morning, load up our luggage, and drive to the drop-off and get the shuttle from there to the airport.

I guess I should see about that tablecloth now.

I didn’t have this with my Mom (who is objectively terrible) but with my Aunt, I looked up to her so much as a child, it wasn’t until later in adulthood that I was like, “Oh, look, she’s human. That’s uncomfortable.” She is great and my best friend and I love her forever, but she’s also fallible and I don’t approve of everything she does. So I think I know what you mean.

And I try to be one of the good ones. I’m not as patient as I would like to be and my son clearly prefers his father, but I do my best to be a source of stability in his life and teach him as much as I can, because he loves to learn. And I snuggle him a lot. He’s very tolerant of all the snuggles.

Yeah, it’s the same for us. I tried to wait it out to take Nelson out, but had to give up around eight and suit us both up.

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s school Mooooom. I hope that the former Catholic school pans out.

Those are pretty bowls shoe.

I rode a bus from our little town to the county seat (~12 miles away) for all of my school years. We caught the bus for elementary / junior high (RC) at the town center 2.5 blocks down the street. Once we went to public high school, we caught the bus at the local elementary school 1.5 blocks away. Mom would watch us out the window, but, with younger kids in the house, she didn’t walk us and sure as heck didn’t drive us to our stop. But then again, even before we started school, she would send us down to Bickel’s Grocery for milk and such on a fairly regular basis, again, watching out the window.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, a load of towels / sheets almost dry, a load of jeans in the wash, the rest of the clothes on deck, kitchen and bath cleaned.

Shortly, I’ll do the vacuuming / sweeping / mopping , menu planning and grocery list. I hope that the rain dies down long enough for me to go to the grocery store. Right now, it’s beginning to puddle in the low spots of the yard. Given that we ended 2023 10" down on precipitation, we’ve had an awful lot of rain so far this year.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

We have two kinds of glasses that we normally use. One kind is like a highball glass, I’m guessing around 10 ounces or so. The other ones are Coca-Cola glasses my dad got in the '70s. I’m guessing those are around 8 to 10 ounces. When I get glasses out for milk (for my wife) and V8 (for me) with breakfast, I use a Coke glass and get out a highball glass for The Missus. This morning she got out the glasses. She poured her milk into the Coke glass and poured my juice into the other one. She went to put her milk down on a coaster and slightly missed it. Dumped her milk on the floor. So now we’ve both spilled today… although hers was a ‘normal’ spill, and mine indicates brain damage.

I told her next time, use the highball glass.

Afternoon all. The plumbing crew was here early and only took about an hour to mix and pour the concrete, so now I wait until Monday while it dries to get my rug put back where it belongs. Rain is now due to last until 3pm or so, had a couple brief thunderstorms but now back to a steady rain. Will look to head over to the gym for my swimming and sauna in about an hour, then sloth for the rest of the day. This is Big Bowl O’Sallit night, nice and filling but not many calories, so will indulge myself a bit to keep that number reasonable.

Flyboy, stay warm and stay inside; that’s some nasty weather there. And I don’t drink coffee, but I do have those ‘how did I forget that’ moments too.

Too bad you don’t have Waffle House up there, they are the Southern way of determining how bad a storm is (if the local Waffle House closes, the Apocalypse has just occured).

Guess you don’t live North enough; I have a good friend up in central New Hampshire, and he gets quite a lot more for a lot longer than even I remember my time in the Midwest.

Taters, used to live in Missouri, and it doesn’t get that bad often, but when it does, it can be extremely bad. Tell them to hang in there and take care. And I’ve had a few bouncy flights in my time, too.

Pilot, glad the airport lines were short. And always a good idea to worst-case it for travel, even if it means sitting around the airport for an extra hour or so. Have a safe ride home.

OK, need to do a little more internettin’ then head off to backstroke my way through the water. Be safe all.

Reading lots, retaining little. I may come back to reread and reply later.

At the moment, I’m sitting in the van listening to the rain pattering on the windshield while Hubby is in the game so settling some TCG cards. Therapy was short today because the weather has decided to make my body misbehave. Between stronger spasms and a bit of vertigo, I wasn’t really good with the rehab stuff. So my PT told me to do some gentle stretches and take it easy.

I’m blaming the weather. It’s rainy and yucky and that always causes me to act up. We’re looking at possibilities of snow and single digit temperatures. I’m currently trying to talk Hubby into making sure we have hot chocolate. I do have plenty of books to read, and we’re doing a watch of the second season of Strange New Worlds. So I don’t mind staying home, wrapped in blankets and watching the snow fall.

The snow has temporarily stopped. A crazy person just jogged by.

No white new white stuff yet, but they’re predicting that we’ll get whalloped later today and overnight.

I’ve made sure both of my battery thingies are charged up so I can at least keep my phone going, but I reallyREALLY hope we don’t lose friggin’ power.
The ovens at work are electric, so we can’t open if there’s no power, and although my heat is gas, I think the furnace still needs power to run …

… actually, it looks like the 1st tiny flakes are starting up. { ominous music }

Whenever anyone asks me if I go jogging, I simply state that if they ever see me running … they probably should, too.

It’ll work better if you head down~up from you and me is even worse.

If you want to meet there I have extra canes, I can bring one for you. We can be a bad ass 3 girl gang!

Well, crap. Just got a message from my sister - my mom is in the hospital in Martinique. No sure why - she said she’d let me know. They had to get off the ship. Any and all healing thoughts headed that way would be appreciated.

Dammit.

Healing thoughts aplenty and hopeful karma on its way.:candle::candle::candle::candle::candle::candle::candle:.

Aww, FCM, your family just cannot catch a break these days … I am so sorry. We’ll all be thinkin’ of you and hoping for the best.

Whose ‘nip was he into? His or yours?

Sending healing thoughts over there.

For a couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to ignore a nagging feeling that something will cause us to cancel our cruise. I hope I’m just being foolish…

I put a little ceramic space heater under the house, and pointed it toward the pipes. I had to turn off the oil-filled, radiator-style heater in the back bedroom and open the door, as having it, Wifey’s radiator heater, and the ceramic heater is too much for the circuit.

Condensation on the inside of the Jeep’s windshield is frozen. I started the Jeep (cranked a little slow, then stalled once it started the first time) and have the cockpit heat going. I don’t want to use the defroster in case there are any weak spots in the windshield that might crack.

The wood from the trees we had removed from the front yard burns very quickly. Brought another armload in.

The temperature is up to 10º Ferret Height. I went into the greenhouse, and the thermometer read 50º… but it’s leaning against the side and had the sunlight on it. It was definitely warmer in there though.

I drove ourtruck this morning since it had been sitting for a couple of weeks. Like your Jeep, the inside was frosted and it took a bit to get warm air to dry it. And it wasn’t that cold here - just below freezing.

Oh no! Sending my very best to your mother and all of you!

Better make two batches, just to be sure.

Preach it, brother! Story of my days and nights.

Damn FCM, that sucks massively. Healing thoughts on the way from here. It seems like the more you focus on one threat (MIL’s health), the more the real problem is sneaking up from behind you (Mom’s health).

Flight has gone well; we’re in descent between Cuba and Key West just now.

Best of luck to everyone with the freezing and the white stuff and the recalcitrant vehicles.
