(Old) I owe, I owe, so off to Mump I go - A Tax Season MMP

Happy Moonday!

All y’all have been busy.

While things around here have settled down considerably, there is still too much going on for me.
Today was somewhat productive.

We got a few inches of snow on Saturday. The GR like it.
We got a video of Cerby playing in the snow, they got quite a bit more than we did.
He is doing so well in his new home. He looks really happy in the videos and they are happy with him. He’s a good dog now.
Adam is doing well, which I am happy to hear. I almost changed my mind and brought him out here. After talking with some people in the area, I’m kind of glad I didn’t. I heard some coyote horror stories and I think Adam is safer where he is.

Way past my bed time. I say I’ll try to catch up, but I know I won’t.

That’s awesome that they’re sending you updates!

Cats tend to do better the less disruption or change they experience in their environment. Even aside from the safety issues, I’m sure he’s happier staying put.

Eh, don’t worry about it. We’re not here to add stress to anyone’s life.

I never got back to sleep after this morning’s bio break and Jell-O finishing up, so I attended the party on very little rest.
Had fun, though. I’m not much for bowling, but I’m pretty good at sitting on my ass and cheering my friends on.
One of the girls made chocolate covered strawberries, and whispered to me that it was her first time doing them. Coulda fooled me; they were great.
Absolutely stuffed myself with the promised pulled pork, and Sweet Manager brought a really yummy dip. I had some with bread; I had some more with cheese and crackers; I had even more with baby carrots and cucumber slices, knowing full well I’d pay for the “healthy” addition of veggies later with an extended bout of the cucumber burps.

Narrator: She is currently experiencing the cucumber burps.

Called my mom once I got home, cuz knowing it’s my routine Blessed Day Off has turned into her expecting a call … plus I actually had something new to share with her (most weeks are just S.S.D.D. and then I get lectured on not having a robust enough social life) so this time we had a pleasant chat.
But by the end of it, between the short sleep and the full tummy, I was yawning uncontrollably, told my mom I was going to bed - it was barely 10 p.m. Even she was like, “So early?

So basically I took the world’s latest nap.

Back up sometime after midnight, derped around for a bit before deciding to just get all the way back up.
Sounds weird to many of you, I’m sure, but remember that if today was Saturday I’d still be at work for another hour right now (it’s 1 am).

Alright, I have some administrivia to attend to (eg I need to do some adulting) in the form of setting up an Amazon return for those damn lights, plus I got a check from the state - something about an “Energy Draft” - but I can’t deposit it directly, I hafta take it to my heating provider, whatever the hell that means.

As far as I’m concerned, heat is delivered when I fiddle with the thermostat, or turn on a hot faucet, and my interaction with my heating provider have so far been limited to me either poking a few buttons or making a phone call to their automated billing service.
Plus it took me awhile to find the check, so it’s past the date & they may or may not take it at this point anyways. Still, something to chase down.

Oh, I forgot to give a shout-out to mah peeps. (Do the cool kids still say it like that?)

Ah, shit. Whoops.

{ adds item to “administrivia/adulting” list }

You’re a saint for putting up with that silly nonsense, and you (and G.G.) deserve another new kitten.

Onto yourself (hours on your feet!) or onto patients?

Same. When I had a dishwasher (sob!) I went out of my way to make sure spoons were separated as much as possible. One in each compartment to start off.

Pretty sure there was a thread or three about the topic a while ago where, to nobody’s surprise, an enormous amount of people came out of the woodwork to express very strong opinions on the matter.

As politically divided as this country has become, it would be friggin’ hilarious to see a politician run solely on the platform of forks up (or down) in the dishwasher, and watch the polls blow up.

… okay, that’s enough procrastinating.

(Narrator: "she will continue to procrastinate. Oh, look, half a joint … ")

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 0c/32f with a predicted high of 2c/36f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking cold, like a room full of fucking angry ex-wives.” Yeah, that must be really cold! Things are pretty much back to normal here, the brats are back at school and the usual school run/work commute traffic is building up outside. That means the traffic’s stationary in both directions on my little street, and I can hear at least three different bits of music from competing cars.

JtC I have non-compliant cats  Shadow likes to sleep on the sofa or ‘im indoors’ office chair, Cherry has a fleece on the radiator that she is completely wedded to, and I have no idea where Blossom sleeps as she portals around the house and just appears when she wants food.

shoe I also don’t have a dishwasher, and am always amused at the discussions in the office about the perceived correct way to load one. Sounds very much like an easy way to break up a marriage!

sari I’m glad to hear that Adam and Cerby are doing well in their old/new homes, it’s always good to know you made the right decision for them and that they’re thriving in an environment that works for them.

wheelie glad to hear you arrived safely, even if it was later than expected, and you managed to get a walk in as well as some food. Fingers crossed your colleague makes it there in time.

Nothing exciting going on in my day today, I have a bunch of updates to do on some of our virtual learning pages, and I have a minion meeting this morning but that should not be too long or arduous. One of our academics has also made a bit of a blunder with something to do with marks and weightings so I’ve got to have a look at that and find a fix for it. And yesterday my boss said there’s got to be an official exams policy which I need to have some input to, since I am the only person in our team with any experience of actual physical in-person exams! Oh joy.

I am suitably fortified with a very large mug of tea along with some cheese on toast with Marmite. It has to be Marmite, that Vegemite stuff is rank and I will cheerfully send the ninja spiders after anyone who disagrees

Yesterday I hauled the biiiiiiiiig recycling bin out for collections, the bin men have just been to empty it. They opened it and peered inside first, recently we had some stickers left on the bins about what does or doesn’t go in them. They looked into my neighbour’s bin too, a few times their recycling has been left unemptied, today the guy moved a large bit of cardboard from the top of the contents, and pulled out the frying pan hiding underneath. He dropped it back on their path instead, that’s not recycling…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 66 with rain for the day. It rained durin’ the night and the weather map shows more on the way soon. Outside of laundry (I can hardly contain the excitatement!) today will be a day of sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. I’ll be very happy to stay inside and dry. Sup shall be leftover sketties 'n meatballs with sallit and cheesey garlic bread.

sari glad Cerby and Adam are happy where they are. Also glad to know the GR are all happy and healthy and loved the snow. They can have all of the snow.

shoe yay for havin’ a good time at the partay. I, too, love me a good dip.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

On and off patients mostly~although I’m a believer enough to wear them for airplane flights, if I knew it was going to be a 12+ shift without pee breaks much less ever getting to actually sit down or the last months of pregnancy. How could I resist? They are sooooo flattering.

‘Cause I know you’re all just on the edge of your seats waiting for news, he did actually land last night around 11:30. Then he had to retrieve his luggage, rent the car, and drive out here (about a 40-minute ride). My guess is he didn’t arrive to the hotel until at least 1 am. We’re meeting downstairs at 7:45; I’m sure I’ll hear all about it then.

Mornin’ everyone.

It was a very stormy night. Branches, rain, and ice pellets were pummeling our windows and probably the roof too. It was absolutely roaring outside.

It’s much calmer now, at 43F, with a light rain. It will rain on this side of the mountains for most of the day. On the other side, where I’m headed, it’s currently 38F, rainy and windy. When I arrive, it’ll be cloudy and windy, with wind gusts up to 40 MPH. Fun times.

I hoped today would be strictly a travel day, with me working from the hotel in the afternoon. However, I now have to meet at 1:00 p.m. to discuss tomorrow’s agenda and market survey. Oy vay. I don’t think I’m getting lunch today.

I’m waiting for my shuttle to the airport. He should be here sometime between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. I hope it’s closer to 5:30 so I can get through security quickly. I failed to make a spot-saver appointment because I wasn’t sure when I’d get to the airport, and it was too late to reschedule the pick-up time for my shuttle. It’s my fault, and I’m irritated with myself. Oh well, live and learn.

sari, I’m glad things are settling down and Cerby and Adam are happy.

wheelz, sorry for all the travel woes. I hope the PM get in and that TPTB screw their heads on right and listen to you guys. Seems to me paying for a hotel room would be cheaper than losing a client.

Buster hasn’t barked yet. I keep waiting, but he never barks, not even when he and Maisie are playing. Maisie barks, and he makes soft, rumbling noises. I still don’t see his balls either. He fusses and whines and makes little grrr-grrr noises when wrestling with his toys and Maisie. So weird.

I’d drink some coffee, but I don’t know how long I’ll have stand in the security line, so I’ll wait until I’m through security.

Well, not on paper…

Don’t the forks and spoons, um, spoon into each other? I make sure all my flatware is mixed up so that no two items stick together and come out dirty.

ding ding ding you beat me to it!

The way it works in our house - he’s not allowed to put anything in the dishwasher. Period. End of discussion. When he does, trying to help out and all, I end up rearranging much of it. I load stuff with an eye to unloading - keeping like items as close together as possible. Except flatware - that gets spread out among the baskets that hold small items.

Good thought, thanks! I know we still have several pairs leftover from FIL’s many hospitalizations. And a couple of 9+ hour flights in our near future.

Had a minor scare this morning - FCD’s phone rang, and the first place my head went was MIL. Fortunately, it was just a call from Daughter’s school saying they’d be dismissing 2 hours early because of weather (much rain, wind, and flooding forecast.) He got the call because very briefly, he was scheduled to teach math there. (speaking of which, the new math teacher started yesterday and Daughter loves her!!)

Less than a scare but still a weird way to start the day: I woke from a dream wondering if Easter and Halloween ever fall on the same day. For whatever reason, my sleeping brain put Halloween on March 31. I had visions of kids dressed as Easter bunnies going door to door collecting chocolate eggs. Is that an early sign of dementia??? :open_mouth:

Somewhere in the night, I also dreamed that a guy I dated about 50 years ago came to visit with his wife and 3 kids. (In reality, he’s thrice divorced, widowed once, and had 5 kids who didn’t speak to him.) In the dream, he looked as he did 50 years ago. I’m pretty sure he’s changed a tad since then…

Anyway, speaking of weather, we’re promised flooding, with high tide being up to 3 feet above normal. And very high winds. And rain. I expect there are a lot of houses along the rivers and the bay that are going to have an especially bad day. I can think of several in Solomons that are apt to have a very wet ground floor. The worst of it is supposed to hit after lunch, hence the schools getting out early.

So I need to run to the store, I think. I have only one onion left - that is not satisfactory! Plus I forgot a couple other things the other day. Nothing critical - if I can’t go, no biggie. We shall see.

ETA: Diet Coke with a use by date of October is undrinkable in January - I had to dump and entire 6-pack that we brought from MIL’s place. Half were mostly flat and the couple I tasted were nasty!

Meanwhile, it’s Tuesday, so it’s laundry day. How much more excitement can one person stand??

Happy Tuesday!

Morning all. Still raining here, it started about 8pm last night and still is coming down, due to finally pass us around noontime. Windy last night, doesn’t seem as bad today so far, but more wind and colder weather (it’s 48F now and that’s as hot as it will get today) is due. Looking at the National Weather map, looks like our Eastern MMP’ers are due for some stormy weather today–at least Wheelie should be dry.

Did manage to get out to the mailbox before the rain yesterday and had a letter from the Utility Department saying there was going to be major work for “the next few weeks” near several roads that I use all the time. So that will make traveling even more fun. Still, progress…

I pretty much throw my silverware in the dishwasher willy-nilly, so far it seems to have worked out, I do organize my dishes and glasses a bit more carefully.

Wheelie, glad your colleague made it in and I’ve done lots of workdays on 5-6 hours sleep after travel (it’s usually the day after that what kicks my butt).

doggio, hope Ace settles down once he realizes that he is ‘home’ now.

JtC, good thing you love Hubs or you would have to murder him…guess you and Herald have the same motto…

Never wore compression socks to the best of my recollection, but have employed the ‘8-12 hour airplane ride’ bathroom solution on occasion.

Sari, glad Cerby and Adam are doing well. Keep hacking away at the underbrush.

shoe, glad you had a good time and ate heartily.

I have a digital thermostat in the house, but it’s not programmable so I move it up and down during the day as required. Usually it’s set at 68F, but I’ll warm it up when I’m in the house for an extended period.

boo fae, sounds like enough to keep your day busy. Have never tried either Marmite or Vegemite so have no opinion on the matter.

Taters, hope your flight goes smoother than Wheelie’s did.

FCM, I always try and check my Diet Pepsi12-packs for their expiration dates, they are usually shorter than for the regular stuff. Also try to rotate them if I have more than 2 cartons on-hand.

OK, need to break fast and be about the day. Take care all.

I always rotate mine, but since MIL is almost blind, she can’t read the dates. This particular 6-pack must have been purchased last summer. ick

It’s raining. We’re off - FCD will drop me at Food Lion then run to McD’s while I shop and he’ll swing back to pick me up. Off we go!!

Monday night movie night is great (we watched Contact with Jodie Foster) but I’m always shortchanged on sleep the next morning.

Penicillin testing has commenced. I’m going to be sitting here for a while. Got my Kindle books, a T. Kingfisher romance novel and a book about Big Data destroying Democracy, in case I needed some light reading.

After this, I have to do a work thing today that should have been done by someone else weeks ago and is now past due. The one thing about my job that frustrates me.

The only thing I know for sure is that I’m going to migrate to the bedroom at 8pm tonight. I’m trying a new thing where I give myself nine hours to sleep instead of eight. We’ll see if it helps.

I have an endearing memory of my husband offering to help with the mashed potatoes for a Thanksgiving dinner. He complained to me that they weren’t mashing. I looked into the bowl and said, “You gotta cook 'em first.”

There’s a reason I’m the resident chef.

Beaumont/Corewell. My own doctors are Henry Ford, though, and I’ve been happy with them. They did my emergency gall bladder surgery in '15. My son was born at Beaumont so we’ve just kept him in that health system.

Winter storm going in here in no. Illinois. I have PT in an hour, but it is literally behind my house. I could walk there. Coming home after and hunkering down to read.

spicy, I’m so glad you found a good practitioner for your little one.

And thanks for the hugs & encouragement, ya’ll. I was truly having a moment last night.

I stayed home again today. Boss lady was supposed to have an 8 a.m. meeting, which would’ve been impossible for me to make unless I hung out here, but she accidentally scheduled it for 9 instead, then joined at 8 and couldn’t figure out why no one was on, so she canceled it but never took it off the calendar. Oh, well. At least I’m still home, but that means I’ll be paying the piper tomorrow and Thursday going in. Unless it snows a lot tomorrow.

No fallout from not joining that meeting yesterday, though someone on my team did. Sociopaths indeed. I’m meeting with their account team’s leadership to tell them to get bent - nicely, of course. It kills me how many issues could be resolved by calmly waiting for people to do their jobs, yet my job is to pretend to be all upset about it externally, then internally tell my team, “Great job, guys!” and all the other internal people bugging them to kick rocks. It makes me feel like I have multiple personality disorder, or I’m an actor in the most boring, repetitive play of all time.

Anyway, 'tis gray and drizzly outside. We were supposed to get the start of a snow storm yesterday/today, but for now it’s looking just…damp. Time to go do my dog & pony show.

FCD is listening to Trump’s lawyer in today’s hearing. I’m not going to get political here, but I swear, the man couldn’t give a simple yes or no answer if asked “Do you want fries with that?” Are all lawyers like that?? eeeeeesh

First load is in the washer, two more to go. It’s raining steadily and supposed to get worse later today. High tide is around noon-thirty - FCD intends to drive to the marina to see. Not me - I’ve got laundry to get done and since our boat is not in the water, I’m really not all that interested.

It appears I am no longer allergic to penicillin. It was annoying to have to take so much time to do this, but I’ll be glad when it’s off my record.

Is that your daughter? New to acronyms.

No - FairyChatDad. He was actually a member on the Dope once eons ago, but he doesn’t play here any longer.

Thanks!

I’m lucky enough I WFH four days a week. I usually go into the office on Wednesdays but I’ve been sick for a solid month, so I was planning to go in tomorrow and work among the living. Now this weather thing. I may never return.

Another do-nothing day, I’m afraid. Not all that cold out, but the wind makes it nasty. We’ll probably watch Oppenheimer on Prime this afternoon and have leftovers for dinner. Then the T-wolves play Orlando tonight.

It’s definitely taking a turn towards life in the slow lane. Lazy mornings, afternoons of scenery, snacks, and cervesa, the chaotic fiesta of Latin nightlife just getting started, then early to bed in the silent lakeside darkness.

Going home tomorrow. So wakeup, cleanup, breakfast, 2 hour car ride to airport, hang out a bit there then fly home.

We deal (I dealt neener neener) with this all the time in the airline biz.

Planning for high reliability includes a lot of traveling early that usually proves to be unnecessary, but sometimes proves to have been vital. Some companies will pay that incremental premium frequently for higher reliability; most won’t.

Back in the 1970s when Guinness Stout was trying to break into the US market as a mainstream beer they had a famous ad campaign whose tagline was:

Guinness. I’ve never tried it and I don’t like it.

Of course the ad contents were all examples of somebody tasting it against their better judgement and having a taste-gasmic epiphany about the wonders of Guinness.

A lot of wisdom about human nature went into those ads. Hubs being a fine example thereof.

ETA: I now see Boo has added her far greater expertise ahead of my belated comments. And susan. It takes a village.

I’ve got some experience with the darn things. They should be effortful, not “very difficult”. At least for people of ordinary strength and agility. They’re easier to put on somebody else than on oneself.

If they are too difficult, they may not be the right size or shape. They come in quite a variety of contours and gripping strengths. It takes a pro to size them correctly, and somebody honest enough to not sell you the wrong size they happen to have in stock. We went around this bush a couple times before finding a good store willing to measure right and order the correct thing.

If anyone needs these, they really need them to be right.

One of the great advantages of silverware trays over silverware baskets is exactly this. I miss my old dishwasher with the silverware tray.

You left out the part where the Daleks attack Roomie for committing that horror.

No sign of eating reluctance there. Sounds like maybe you’ve got more of a cooking reluctance. Which is fully understandable given your life’s details.

The no-nesting worry applies to flatware baskets which hold the items vertically and let them flop around. A flatware tray like Doggio has and I had is a third very short rack typically above the ordinary glassware upper rack very close to the top of the dishwasher. Each item lays horizontally between little tines so they can’t flop around and bump into each other. Or nest. It’s like a little slide-out display case to show off your gunk-encrusted flatware. If you put all of one kind in one area, a simply scoop of the hand brings up all the salad forks or all the tablespoons or whatever. Super efficient to unload.

It’s a far superior design.
