(Old) I’ve Never Done This Before in the MMP

Are you otherwise feeling OK? Had a checkup recently?

It sounds like you’re after a cozy mystery. I’ll throw out my recommendations of Sharyn McCrumb or Margaret Maron. Sharyn McCrumb’s ballad series is especially good if she likes historical fiction with a mystery.

Got the donation and one return mailed and groceries bought. The big return label was for doggio’s crew, so I decided to couple that with picking up prescriptions tomorrow, since they’re on the same side of town. I may hit the grocery outlet as well.

Now for sloth.

nettie I had Lyme and didn’t fully get over it. Numb feet, tingly fingers. My advise? Don’t get Lyme. I’ve got a follow up appointment next week. Or maybe the week after…whenever the 6th is.

I ain’t skeered of no Wendigos or bears, but I ain’t going into the woods evah because the idea of getting a tick just squeeks me out so much. Getting Lyme sounds a thousand times worse so I’m just gonna sit on my porch and look at the woods.

metalmouse, mazel tov!

Instead of writing group this morning, I stained the fence. At 6:30 PM, we stopped, for now. One panel, one quarter-panel, a gate, and some detail work still to go. Can 5/5 of stain ready to pry open. Praise from three neighbors. Then I can start ripping up grass where we’re planting out our lilacs and maybe some roses. Talked with the HOA landscaping guy to be sure I’ve planted within acceptable parameters in the front yard. He affirmed, and said he’s not sure why more people on the street don’t plant in their side-strips. I assume it’s because many are renters and don’t do much outside maintenance or beautification.

Ooooh, mccrumb! She is a fun writer.

Donna Andrews is good. Also bbc does some nice radio shows.

So. The day started off with overload belt screeching, followed by the sound of air wrenches(never a good sound 10 minutes into a sort). Then the usual scrambling to get things out because of bad equipment. Then also replaced the working scanner on on of the 300 terminals with a non working one. I assume next week they will start removing the engine blocks from the package cars. I stayed late to help with retapes and damaged. Plus they were working on the sprinklers, and set off the fire alarm, so I got an extra 15min of pay. Plus there were downed power lines on the way back home. But I napped, laundered, had a gin saketini and some back bean fish stew.

Arrrrrr! It be. :pirate_flag: :tropical_drink:

“The two happiest days in a boat owner’s life are the day they buy it, and the day they sell it.”

He thought you might know something. Take the W.

Week after next. Hopefully they can help a bit.

Have a good sleep, mumpers on our timezone.
Catch you tomorrow!:sleeping_bed::innocent:

Evening all. Just back from swimming, couldn’t finish my 1.5 miles this afternoon due to a crowd doing laps (the pool only has 4 lanes and it’s first come-first served). I went back about 6:30pm and got my second 45 minutes in and am now relaxing and finishing off my Big Bowl O’Sallit.

Mowage will probably occur tomorrow, it stayed dry outside most of today and there is only a 25% chance of rain tomorrow, so will try to get that done…of course, this means that Lord Murphy will send a downpour just as I get the mower started…

talkie, he might technically be an adult, but a lot of the things in the adult world can be intimidating, so having a older hand available…sounds like the boy has a good head on his shoulders.

Oopsie, enjoy the Lego expo…and yeah, it is neat the young’ns like you well enough to include you in the activity. Good thoughts about passing the class.

FCM, don’t know if the Nero Wolfe mysteries by Rex Stout are on audio, but she might enjoy them, not a lot of violence but usually a good plot and a quick read. And glad you have enough influence to settle BIL down.

You two need to watch this You Tube video; the two guys are young Englishmen who sample food all over the world and get thousands of people to watch (including me). This is supposed to be the best BBQ in Texas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfUfvCOmtvM

JtC, glad the plumbing got resolved, I guess offering to share your smoking materials with him was contraindicated… And checkbook will be needed to pay for a hearing aid first.

Know what you mean. I was driving years ago up in New Hampshire and took the wrong expressway out of Boston, so had to go cross-state via a two lane twisting highway up and down hills in the dark…and with Moose Crossing signs all along the road. Took me awhile to get where I was going…

And that’s all I can write for tonight, need to do a little internettin’ and some puzzle solving before bedtime, so all y’all take care now.

metalmouse Did you end up on the Kancamangus? It is beautiful daytime, but I bet it ain’t no fun at night.

(I’m assuming black beans.)

I like beans, and black beans are among my favorite. I like fish, and am pretty adventurous when it comes to soups’n’stews.

May I ask, did this come from a place (takeout) or a frozen/heat option, or didja make it yerself, or … ?

Love it!

Survived Long Night. The drive-thru line was several cars deep out in the main street both directions, and we were still running a half-hour wait time five minutes till close, so, yeah, I’d say we were pretty busy. :upside_down_face:

Most people were pretty cool about it - even the heavily inebriated - but a hearty “fuck you” to the people who roll up, take a second to park and another to roll down their window, start off by bitching about how long the line is taking, and then slooooowwwwly fish through their purse to find their wallet, and then go, “Aw, hang on, I gotta unlock it,” now we all gotta wait while you fish around again and find your phone and poke a buncha buttons … you couldn’t have done all that while you were waiting in line?

(OMG. It’s the updated version of little old ladies slowly writing the date, store name, etc. on their checks after being told their total.)

Anyway, each time that happens, I wanna scream at them, “People like you are half the reason this line is taking so damn long in the first place! I gotta explain that we have a long wait time to every asshole who … just … waited in a long line!!!”

Okay, I think the edible has definitely worn off.

Time for some Monkey snuggles, the strongest indica money can buy I still have lying around, and perhaps a snack.

But this is for the slowpokes. Gawd, this scene runs through my head a hundred times a shift:

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday!

I need a new keyBorg.

Made it myself.

Goodnight daywalker!

If you have the time/energy, can you share how it’s made?
A recipe link would be awesome, but even some general guidelines (“I use X fish, and add Y and Z seasonings”) would be cool.

If not, not hard feelings. Just never had fish and black beans combined, and am intrigued!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 89 and lookin’ like it’ll be N.O.S. and cloudy off and on. The usual late afternoon rain showers are also predicted. JDD and Partner will be over elevenish to hang with us at the cee-mint pond where much silliness shall ensue. Then we shall grill burgers and have ‘em along with all the fixin’s and french fries. Then, cheesecake! YUM! My bday is not until Moanday but this shall be my low key celebration, as I am not one for makin’ a todo over gettin’ one year older.

MetalMouse I had already seen that video. I’ve watched several of their videos. Seems like everything they eat is the most amazin’ thing they’ve ever eaten. I enjoy the videos.

JtC glad all your kitchen stuff is finally installed.

shoe ya just can’t fix stoopid! I always have my money/card in hand when I pull up to the pay window. I hope I am not in the minority.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Morning!

That’s a good way of putting it. Thanks for the suggestions.

Our library doesn’t seem to have old radio shows, but maybe I can find some somewhere else, if she’s interested. I enjoy them, but obviously we have different taste parameters.

Speaking of, my latest trashy novel is a new level of trashy. Albert and Edward are twins, with Albert the elder by a few minutes, so he’s the earl and his brother is the party boy. In the prologue, Edward pretends to be Albert and lays a major lip lock on Albert’s betrothed, Julia. Fast forward some years, Julia is pregnant (after several miscarriages) and she sends Albert off with Edward for one last adventure in Africa before he becomes a father. They’re gone 4 months and Edward returns with Albert’s body (he having been beaten to death by a protective mama gorilla.) Albert’s last words to Edward are “Be me.” Yeah.

So Julia plans a touching funeral for “Edward” while Edward pretends to be Albert until Julia has the baby, fearing the truth would cause her to lose the child. Because why not? However, Edward is falling in love with Julia, and apparently she can’t tell the difference between her late husband and his twin because reasons. OMG!!! I’ve got to finish in order to see how they ultimately fall in love and marry, because that’s the way these books go.

See what I mean about trashy??? See why I should be embarrassed about reading this stuff? They’re so predictable, and yet they’re not. I’m so ashamed…

Nor am I - it’s one of those things that happens or it doesn’t. Last time a big deal was made over my birthday was more than 30 years ago. It was nice, but I’m truly OK with a hug from my sweetie and a “Happy Birthday” from my spawn and the grands. OK, I like the posts on FB, too, but mostly, it’s not a big deal.

Today started at 62°!! I’d opened our bedroom windows last night, and the cool is glorious! Well, except for MIL - she puts on a jacket even when it’s in the 90s outside - her circulation is that bad and she’s always cold. Speaking of whom, I’ll be taking her to a Bible study this morning and picking her up after. I’ll run into Food Lion for more sodas and TP that’s on sale, plus some canned dog food.

FCD has already left for the boat and he may or may not call me. He’ll be parking at our marina and he may need me to pick him up at the boatyard and take him to his car. It’s a couple-three miles around the end of the creek, even tho you can see one from the other across the water.

Somewhere in there, I need to clean the critter fountain. I’ll also flush out the good ice maker with vinegar to keep minerals from accumulating. As you can see, I have another exciting day ahead!

Happy Saturday!!

Did I miss the good news announcement that you were officially cleared to drive again? For some reason, I thought that was off the table for a while - anyway, that must be a relief!

Been quiet a while, but I think it was Route 101 or Routes 202/9.

shoe, I tend to still pay in cash (old people syndrome), but I always have my money out and ready at the window, often exact change if I have it. Can’t understand people who wait until the last minute to fish around for it.

swampy, yeah, but if I was a young 20-something Brit and had hundreds of thousands of people watching me eat stuff, I’d probably be a bit dramatic too…

Have broken fast with a Big Bowl of Cereal and a banana, waiting until a decent hour (near 10am?) to do mowage and then maybe (weather and Parks/Red permitting) do a little soccer stuff and/or gym work. Clouds all over but no rain (yet) and 77F heading to 85F later.

Good morning.

It’s 51F and clear outside. We’ll have sunshine most of the day, and the temperature is expected to be 81F. Clouds will start moving in the evening to overnight hours.

Yesterday, I treated myself to a pedicure and then drove down to Home Depot to pick up some bags of topsoil and lawn dirt to fill the holes the pups dug in the yard. I picked up two plants and pavers, along with pavers so I could finally put together my storage bin for the yard tools. I’ve decided I’m not going to get around to replacing pavers and extending the area where I keep my planters and pots, but I do want to get that box built, and I’ll need pavers because I plan to put it against the house where a flower bed exists now. Most intelligent people would put it on their patio, but my patio is small, and I don’t want to give up the real estate there.

I’ll either get it built this weekend or during my vacation, which starts on the 2nd.

Today may include a trip to the mall, or I might hang out at home.

shoe, sounds like a crazy night, and yes, people like that dummy are super annoying to those of us waiting in line behind them. I also always have my card or cash in hand. Also, when there is a line, it’s not time to have a long-winded conversation about the way of the world or whatever and hold up those behind you. I hate that. Move along, damn it!

I, too, would like to see pictures of Lily and her lovely wife’s yard handiwork. I’ll bet it’s beautiful.

Okay, I need to get my day started. I need to pull out some weeds next to the driveway. They’re driving me nuts. The craptastic neighbors next door do not take care of their yard or the rock strip in front of their house, and it is now FILLED with weeds which keep migrating to my yard. I’d love to just put casaron down on their rocks, but I don’t want it leaching over my mulched area that contains a rhododendron. Additionally, that area is near a storm drain, so I don’t want that stuff getting in there. I’ll probably take my little mini-torch out there, and burn the weeds adjacent to my yard.

Okay, need to get going. The hours seem to fly if I start the day too late.

Anyway,

Technically, no. But I take my meds religiously and haven’t had any reaction or anything. And I don’t make long drives. yeah, I know, naughty me, but there ya go.

Vinegar solution is cycling thru the ice maker. After I get MIL home, I’ll clean the critter fountain. And I need to go check my veggie patch to see what’s going on out there. I put the cantaloupe in the fridge in anticipation of slicing it up today. Such is my excitement.

Windows are still open - just 72° outside. I’ll close when it hits 76°. C’mon autumn!
