(Old) It’s Moanday Again In The MMP

I found a small cross-body purse at the thrift store last year - I wanted it for our Antarctic cruise - it’s great! it has a phone-size pocket, a divided main section, and a zipper on the outside. Makes me wonder why I carry all the crap I usually have, tho I do sometimes need stuff…

It’s installed, but apparently not very good at its job. No matter - when I came home, the nurse was here (well, another nurse in a series) and she gave MIL 2 catheters - one for drainage, one for meds, since she’d been fighting FCD when he tries to medicate her. Probably because the stuff tastes nasty. Now she won’t be tasting it at all. But we’ll still keep the alarm - maybe it’ll alert us… maybe…

How can you possibly have a son that old??? Then again, it has been a few years since we met, so I guess you’ve aged as I have.

OK, back from the fundraiser. It was nice. Some pics:

Roxy was confused when he told her to be nice to her little brother - believe it or not, she’s always nice to him. Mostly. She adores her baby bro.

They had 4 craft stations for kids - coloring, make a snowman ornament, make a candy cane from pipecleaners, make a flower. Roxy did them all, Tobias did a couple, I think.

They had music - not too loud - really nice background mood music.

Wreaths and trees for auction, each with a “Buy Now” price on them.

There were lots more - I just didn’t take pics of everything.

Someone donated tons of ornaments still in boxes. The sign said “Make a donation and fill a bag!” I made a donation and let each kid pick one.

Afterwards, I took them all for a McLunch. It was a nice morning. I hope they raise lots of money.

So the usual running 2 slides, and keeping ahead of things..
Technical Terri: “What did you do, the slides are clean!”
Me: “they left me alone.”
Narrator: “They immediately ceased leaving him alone.”
First loading Top Red on the 100, then the 100 Sort Table, then at the end they dumped a ton of Mez work. So on the lowest volume day, I was there for 10 hours. So OT, plus I got a box of surplus doughnuts. [Homer]Mmmmmmm…surplus doughnuts…[/Homer]

“I felt my heart skip a beat, use the paddles! And maybe the defibrillator, too!”, Marsha exclaimed, as her garments fell to the floor. - Love Emergency
But I hope the back gets better.

Did someone also smell of elderberries?

Or his Puppy

Happy Birthday Spud!!

Has anyone else noticed this: It seems ever since COVID, stores are no longer doing their stocking overnight. I see it especially in Food Lion - between the carts where employees are filling on-line orders and the laden carts in the middle of aisles for reloading shelves or freezers, navigating thru the store is an obstacle course. Add to that shoppers who stop in the middle of the aisle to read labels, totally blocking movement in each directions… grrrrrrrrr! Didn’t most or all restock happen after hours? Or did I just imagine that?

Hello, again, dear friends. I’ve been lurking but didn’t want to post until I had good news on the stuff stressing me out. I still don’t have it but decided to post anyway.

My friend never got my earlier message, but she called this morning…while I was in the shower. I called her back, but it went right to voicemail. I’m frankly overwhelmed with all this, and she’s the one person I need to talk to. A huge thank you to all of you who posted encouragement and support. I know I’m in better shape than some people in my situation. I just read about a woman who had to downsize to a studio apartment and is worried about the rent going up on that, as it will.

The upstairs neighbors have doubled. The dad and tiny tot (I thought about 2 but now am thinking more like 18-20 months.) have been joined by the mom and a 3-year-old. There’s even more running and crying, especially on rainy days like today, but at least it’s quiet after bedtime. The new tenants upstairs and across the hall are a quiet young couple with no kids. Go figure.

I do have SOME good news. The eye doc said my left eye looks “perfect.” It’s been the more troubled twin. so that was good to hear. The right eye is good but is developing a thin spot and will eventually need another full-thickness transplant but is OK for now. I’ve had 4 transplants already and vowed after the last one I’d never do it again, but denial is underrated, so that’s my plan for now.

Snd yesterday I had a dental appointment for a cleaning and exam. It was a short appointment, as my teeth and gums look good and didn’t need much calculus removal. (Why does the mineralized plaque around gums have the same name as the advanced math subject? Is it because they’re both hard?) So that’s good news, too.

My amaryllis fell over. It got to be so tall (26"), that the giant blossoms made it too top-heavy to stand upright. It’s like Snoop Dogg got drunk instead of high and wore Carmen Miranda’s hat. I’m going to have to tie it to a yardstick.

I was going to walk to the grocery store today, but it’s raining hard AND the wind is gusting, so that’s on hold. Rain I can handle, but umbrellas don’t like the wind. I hope the power stays on.

Taters, a big Happy Birthday to your son!

FCM, it must be really taxing to be awaiting an imminent and inevitable passing. You have to keep making contingency plans. I guess it’s the other bookend to an imminent birth. I know it doesn’t help much, but {{{{{FCM and FCD and mom}}}}} Those grandkids look so happy! How did the Roxstar get so tall?! And how do you keep from hugging their adorable selves every minute?

MetalMouse, I’m so glad you’re feeling better! That must have been scary!

Well, I don’t think I’ve ever posted a pick of her dad - he’s like 6’1". I figure both of those kids will tower over me by middle school! Roxy thinks that’s hilarious.

Sorry you got the noisy upstairs neighbors - that’s just sucktastic. :stuck_out_tongue:

We have a different kind of noise - the baby monitor we have for MIL’s room seems to be picking up signals from someone else. FCD is trying to connect it to our WiFi in the hopes of getting rid of those signals. It was weird - I’d hear voices, but I’d check the monitor, and MIL was asleep. Plus the voices were definitely young. So either we’re haunted or someone has a fairly strong transmitter that’s on the same frequency as the monitor.

Ah, technology!

Remember the package FedEx told me was coming on Firday? But on Firday, it was somewhere in PA, and they updated to arrival today, which is what it still says, but at noon-thirty, it was in WV. So unless they’re driving it directly from that hub to my house, ain’t no way I’m getting it today. What did I predict - Tuesday? Getting close. In fact, I expect to be notified tomorrow that it’s in NC or maybe NJ. Should we start a pool?

Food Lion had snow crab legs on sale, so I got a sack o’ clusters and that’ll be supper tonight. I should probably have some kinds of sides, but I don’t know what - how about ice cream sammiches? Or maybe crinkle fries? Decisions, decisions…

Happy Saturday!

It’s still cold outside, and inside too.

I knew my son was going to balk at cleaning out the back room. I want to take everything out, go through it, and put it back organized.
I switched over to cleaning out the bedroom drawers and closet for today.
It’s warmer in my bedroom anyway, good for a cold day.

I woke up around 1am, having a dream that I had to get up to go to irk. I was sure I had overslept, but part of me was fighting to stay asleep while the other part was saying get up.
Most annoying.

Hippie, it’s nice you are still here to tell us about it.

Shoe, I way too often get bogged down in decisions.
One of my friends tells me I overthink everything. He, on the other hand, lives on impulse and instinct. I could never live how he does. I haven’t heard from him in more than a few years and I have no way to get in touch with him. His name is too common to look up, and he bounces between Baltimore, Chicago, and Philly.
I hope your back feels better.

What cute pictures! FCM

Today I bought Christmas cars for Wifey (one from me, one from the cats), my sister and ‘BiL’, my former boss, friends, and my Secret Santa recipient. Thirty-eight bucks! Yow. My SS recipient ha a scarf on her wish list, so that’s what I got her. Since it was only $17 and the limit is $25, I spend an extra sawbuck on two packages of Red Vines because I know she likes them. I still have to wrap the Spousal Unit’s presents, sign her cards, and get the other cards into the mail. And not forget to take the SS present into the orifice on the 20th.

The wind knocked the head off of one of the reindeer things in the front yard. Mrs. L.A. didn’t have time to fix it, so I did. I also cleared the ‘gutter’ over the front door ‘roof’.

At Costco I got a 7.5 pound prime rib ($109), that pesto butter salmon I like. tiramisu in little glasses (6), and a package of frozen French onion soups. I took them out of the box, and they look exactly like the ones at Trader Joe’s, except you get six instead of two.

I also got one of their $4.99 chickens and put it into the oven to keep warm until we get around to dinner. Just got back from the corner store with potatoes and packet gravy. Sadly, they only have Russets, and not Yukon Golds.

We kids got taller than our 4’9 mom by the time we were 10 years old. We, too, thought it was funny. Then we realized she could yell up just as well as she could yell down.

You are TOO generous! What makes and models?

Sometime between 6pm and 10am, someone in the building decided they had a better idea for the lobby decor and took apart what was done Thurs night and moved things around.

I can not believe it. I have written a stern email to management and the condo board.

Seriously! If you want to mess with building decor join the committee or event. Gggrrrr.

DOH! I seemed to have trouble with the 'd’s when I was typing that post. Missed one. (And a ‘d’ didn’t appear for ‘Missed’ and ‘and’.)

Up from a short nap to watch some hockey. and have a Sazarac, and some chicken tacos.

You didn’t. Most places axed overnight stocking, and 24 hour operation to reduce employee count, to keep profits up.

It sounds like a fun day!

I was taller than my mom by third grade. Given that my sibs are all tall folk, we all towered over her 5’2".

Got out of the grocery outlet for under $40 and restocked the freezer and snack jar. They have a decent meat counter there and I was low on the chicken thighs that are a staple of my freezer, so I got a couple of packages, a pound of thick cut bacon, bread (living alone, mine lives in the freezer to be toasted as needed), some cashew butter, coconut milk, pumpkin, keto ice cream bars, etc. I always get a bang for my buck there.

OTH, at Sprout’s market, I got some roasted, unsalted cashews and almonds, along with a bag of the good treats for Nelson and spent over $20.

The Captain (D) fixed supper and now it’s chill time.

And then came the cancer. It’s good that you are doing so well after both these horrible things, but wow, what a bad year. My heart goes out to your lovely wife. I was a mess after hubs had his heart surgery, she got it with both barrels.

I know you love him and all…but I’d suggest that you think very carefully about falling down this rabbit hole. I’ve seen more than one small train set morph into a house eating monster.

NICE! It’s good to be a “regular” customer for an established business.

Oh geeze. Yeah, I got a little whiny over the plumbing bill, but I’m not buying presents for children and grands.

I share your unkind thoughts about the state of medical (including dental and vision) care in this country.

Oh, that would be Hubs

GG noticed the one in my room this morning and slunk off to hide under the bed. Which just happens to also have a fan over it. Cats!!!

Wait, what? I thought you were doing fun things with your volunteer work, I didn’t know there was paperwork involved.

Oh dear, I hope it stops splanging, that’s not a great sign. I know this is probably a silly question, but do you do any sort of stretching exercises during your abundant free time? If not, you probably should try to take ten minutes a day for your health.

That’s very nice of him, I hope you enjoy it and your big sausage.

I do not have a purse. ALL of my pants and my only skirt have pockets. My sweaters and jackets have pockets. (I do have an assortment of needlework bags, but I don’t put purse stuff in them, just stitching supplies.)

Purses are just too much bother and effort for me, pockets are so much easier and I am so very lazy.

I read forward and enjoyed the pictures, I’m glad you had a good time and I hope the hospice makes lots of money.

1% of any given population causes 99% of the problems. The housekeeping staff didn’t notice the many good pet owners, it was the bad ones that made them threaten a mass walk-out.

Happy birthday! I hope you can get together with him soon.

Thank you! I’m a big fan of shiny stuff and it looks like you found the mother lode!

We are feeling a little better about it now. We have spoken to several neighbors who have used that company and who sounded surprised about our experiences so far…maybe they are just having a bad year or something.

I’m so happy for some good news, you certainly could use it.

Hubs has four years left on his bypass. (They used a vein out of his leg for the five valve bypasses and the process damages the vein enough that he should be planning on having more heart surgery then.) He says he won’t have the heart surgery again, I’m really hoping he changes his mind when things start going south again.

You made me giggle with that one!

Oh good lawd, that is just NOT done! How very rude!!! I am outraged on your behalf!!!

So today dawned cold and clear so Hub’s Ohio cousin sent me pics of snow to cheer me up. It did not cheer me up, it made me jealous.

Hubs told me about the "housing development"going up just north of the Lakes.

Back when we first bought out there, plans to put in the big interchange were just being talked about. Property along the highway was zoned for residential/commercial and folks bought that property up as investments because they were hoping to make money off all of the promised shopping malls and development. (which didn’t happen because of the NIMBY’s.)

Some of that land has been bought by developers. Their plan is to put in 50 mobile home lots, 50 permanent RV lots and 50 park model lots. (Park models are manufactured tiny houses without the charm.) Of course, the developers will own the land and will raise the lot rents as they please and the homeowners will be screwed because mobile homes really aren’t that mobile AND most parks won’t allow older mobiles to move in.

So nobody there will actually own anything of value and won’t be able to move because all of their money is going to lot rent.

Kicks soapbox back under the loveseat, sorry.

TC friend is involved in feral cat rescue and of course has a houseful of foster failures. Like any other rescue person she is always short of money and cat fud. As a result, we have a standard Chewy order that goes to her four times a year.

Today’s FedEx driver didn’t want to deal with the 60 lb box and left it on the wrong side of the gate, right next to the road. He even took a pic showing this. Of course the box was gone when she got home an hour later, the Lakes used to be a nice neighborhood but that was before 2014.

Chewy is resending the box and we are hoping this driver will do like all of the other drivers and at least drop the box over the gate into her yard. (Her regular driver just puts it on her porch like the USPS and UPS drivers do.)

I’m really hoping the box thief has cats. It would suck for all of that kibble to get pitched because the thief has dogs instead.

When I called Mom today, she told me that she wasn’t stitching much at all anymore and that I should plan to come and get my stuff soon (She wants me to have all of her needlework stuff because I’m her only daughter who stitches.). I guess I’ll be flying to Idaho sometime next month, she says I don’t need to hurry and I really don’t want to pay to fly across the country this time of the year.

I don’t need or even want her stuff, but I know she doesn’t want it to get pitched. She bought it all because she loved and wanted it so of course she wants to know that it has found a good home.

WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! Y’all! My DAWGS won the SEC championship game! Happy is da bear! I was told I was good and won’t need extra speshul double sooper sekrete confession tomorrow. The final score was 22-19 in overtime. In other news, the beast stew was excellent if’n I do say so myself. There’s even some leftovers for tomorrow. Win-Win!

I had my bypass surgery on 12.12.2024. My prostate cancer came to light about five weeks later. Sunflower is my rock and foundation. She keeps me warm when it’s cold, dry when it’s wet and brave when it’s frightening. Come May, we will be a couple for fifty three years and married for fifty.

And a good evening to all. Soccer kept me busy for much of the day, pretty much ran the U8 sessions from 8am-10:30am, let others work with the U10’s while I sought nourishment (Hostess cupcakes and a Snickers bar count as nourishment, don’t they?) and made my reservation for my June Cruise to Norway with my friends group, then came back and refereed for the 12U group. Guess they didn’t wear me out quite enough, went to the gym for about 90 minutes but at home now with the heat up and the space heater on, so the room I am in is nice and toasty. Had cheese dogs for dinner, usually nuke some lean Cuisine Fettuccine Alfredo but heading to Olive Garden tomorrow for that, so some wieners filled in. Temperature is still above freezing (38F) but still will be cold tonight.

FCM, those are absolutely great pictures. And yeah, Kroger seems to have lots of stocking going on anytime I am there; fortunately the aisles are wide enough to accommodate us.

boo fae, hope the visit by your friends went well and the weather abated.

Cookie, sorry to hear about your putting a hurtin’ on your belly, but you apparently knew what was coming…hope the shake was worth it.

Taters, happy B-day to your son and hope they make their appointment on-time.

nellie, happy you checked in; best wishes with both neighbors and eyes.

Sari, I’m in the ‘thinking is better than reacting all the time’ camp with you.

rocky, I guess idiots are going to idiot. Hope the letter does some good.

JtC, the paperwork was a Excel spreadsheet I copied/pasted of the kid’s names so we could check them in. Wasn’t hard and the folks doing the checking in appreciated it.

swampy, good for UGA, glad the faintin’ couch wasn’t needed.

hippie, we’ll be looking forward to that 50th anniversary celebration.

And that’s all from Case Rat. Have a good rest of the night, I’m heading into my You Tube channels (Kara&Nate, Jolly, Virtual Railfan) for awhile and then head off to bed to do some reading before lights out. Take care all.

Thats…not quite right?

You are a lucky, lucky man.

That is fantastic! A true life partner.

Maybe someone could take a shot at solving the problem.
