(Old) It’s Moanday Again In The MMP

Shame the last guy with a gun missed. :sob:

Only five weeks. I wasn’t ready to leave hubs alone for longer than a few hours at five weeks, if he had gotten a cancer diagnosis then, I would have had such an epic meltdown at my BFF’s place before going home and being his rock again. My admiration for Sunflower grows every time you share about her.

I was mostly teasing. Most of my volunteer time in the last decade did not include any lifting or physical stuff, but I can shuffle papers like a madwoman. I’m currently coaching the new volunteer grant writer in the hopes of keeping the Meals on Wheels thing going without me actually doing it for her.

I should probably check in with the senior center in town. They probably need someone to shuffle papers around for them as well. Plus, it would help get hubs out of the house. He’s decided that I am a bad driver and he needs to drive us every where. I like having an on-call chauffeur and if driving me around is the only way to get him out of the house…well I’m all good with that.

I’m going to be going to needlework meetings after the holidays and I’m hoping that he will meet other bored husbands while waiting fer the womenfolk to stop gabbing.

Butter.

Let me repeat. BUTTER.

I do that sometimes. Then MMPers worry, which stresses me more. So I show up. And bitch about my mother.

I have ezzactly that sitting atop my nuker.

I thoroughly LOL’d. One of my favorite standup bits evah.

“Are you Ron … :face_with_raised_eyebrow: tater salad … White?”
“You caught me. Ya caught the tater.”

There’s a joke about Gemini horoscopes in there, somewhere.

That was really profound.

… got tied to a yardstick like your amaryllis?

Yeah, cuz that gets results.

{ shotgun racking sound effect }

My favorite is the arabesque.
ETA NOPE I have the wrong name. The version I do has the upper leg bent. Will search for the correct name.

Long ago, when dinosaurs still roamed the earth, I could do it en pointe while gently touching a few fingertips to the barre.

Now I gotta haul my shin up while clutching something sturdy, but I can still hold the position. The key is having your knee and ankle in a perfect horizontal line.

Stretches your hips in a wonderful way.

Dammit, now it’s bugging me that I have the wrong name for it in my silly brain.

Holy JEEBUS we got the wind tonight. Of COURSE it was blowing directly into the drive-thru window, and who was working that spot?

Guess. Just guess.

Attitude derriere yes, that’s really the term.

{ sighs, feels better }

@coppertone

It was a brain fart. Of course the surgery was 12.12.2023

Be my guest. I actually learned it when I worked in SA,TX.
When you’re speaking to someone (that won’t beat the crap outta you), you can say, “here’s a quarter, go buy yourself a clue”. I used roll of quarters in that story because that guy wouldn’t be able to use only a quarter to get himself a clue, he’d need a whole roll.

I so identify with this.

oopsie I hope you were able to find time today to watch the Grand Prix finals or can do so on Sunday on replay. The American anthem was played 3 times!!! The best to watch, if you only have time for one, is Ice Dance. Every single routine was very good to great, no clunkers among them.

And yes, Bolero was extremely memorable; loved Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill. Every so often, like every 10 years or so, it’s shown on tv. I found it on-line at one point but it was not in HD so the clarity was bad. I liked their routine when they skated in 1994 but the Rooskies won first & second. T&D took 3rd.

My suggestion is to put the SS present in your car trunk and set a reminder on your phone for the 19th and 20th that you have to take the SS present in to work.

Congrats!
You’ve got us beat. We’ve been a couple for 50 yrs and married for 45.

JtC I’m so glad you found a needlework group to get together with!

Today I started early with watching the Women’s Grand Prix final. While it started at 7:30am ET (being held in Grenoble France), I didn’t start watching until about 8:45. Amber Glenn won, YAY! First American anthem of the day. Daughter dropped off Bella on her way back to Chicago to clean her former abode and pick up the last of the odds and ends that were still there. I became aware that there was an Estate Sale at our former directly across the street neighbor so I went over to check it out. There wasn’t too much available as she moved to a senior complex and took most of her kitchenware and furniture with her. But the Christmas stuff; WOW, she had tons of it. I saw a few things that interested me but those Estate Sale Companies always price things pretty high to start. Since it was only going to be a one day sale, the lady told me to come back at 3pm and then a 33% discount would be available. Next I washed dishes then took Bella for a walk, just 2/3 mile as it was pretty cold. Watched the Ice Dance final and our Americans Madeline Chock & Evan Bates won the gold medal; YAY! Watched the Men’s final and Ilia Malinin won gold; YAY! So, I went back to the Estate Sale and picked up a Grisham book, a couple DVD’s (Chicago, the movie, and some Christmas movie), a pillow that says Angels are present when Cardinals visit, a tablecloth & napkins, a large totebox and a Hallmark ceramic train station and train with tracks consisting of engine, railcar, and caboose. I’m hoping that this will suffice for Hubs and that he will like it. The clerk calculated the price at $39 but discounted it to $25; SCORE! Watched the MSU vs Nebraska Men’s basketball game. It was close for at least the first 10 minutes but in the second half, the Spartans were up more than 40 pts then Izzo put in the bench warmers and walkon Nick Sanders (Barry’s son) so the final was 89-52. YAY! And I wasn’t watching except for the OT; the Spartans beat the Badgers in hockey 3-2. YAY! So, it was a pretty gosh darn good day :grin:

@JaneDoe42

I was released on 12.17 and on 12.19 she had me walking laps at the local mall. I was a bit fragile and unsteady on my feet, but I used a cane and started walking laps.

I live in a quite seaside community… but I’m from L.A.

I like the way you think.

Because we lurvs ya!

You sure you’re not Italian?

Hey, hey, now. Don’t give away all my childcare tips.

I have this image of you dodging pizzas flying back at you like frisbees.

Congrats on the great bargain, CatGlove!

When my parents had their 50th anniversary celebration my mom’s mother was there. Not many peoiple get to the 50th and have a parent there to celebrate with them.

You joke, but when it’s that windy in juuuust the right direction, like it was today, I’ve felt small lightweight pizzas (like, just pepperoni, or worse, just a simple cheese) get LIFT and try to blow out of my hands.

Worst is when people pull up to the drive-thru about half a mile away (“Hi, I’m picking up my wife’s pizza, can you reach me?” “Uh. No. Also, who the fuck is your wife?”)

Extra speshul shout-out to every yahoo who said, “Boy, it’s windy out!” while I’m trying to grab their cash before it goes flying out into the parking lot, while also wearing a knitted hat and scarf, with a space heater vroooming next to me, while snow is blowing into my eyeballs.

Nah. Yeah. Hadn’t noticed the wind. Asshole.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 35 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 66 and cloudy. Rain is comin’ in for three days startin’ tomorrow. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization wherein I have Verger duty. Then it will be home to da cave for a N.O.L. of beast stew. Nappage and other high RDOS inactivities will take up the rest of the day.

MetalMouse glad the soccer stuff went well. You deserve a day of high RDOS inactivity.

Cookie hope the belly feels better today.

Rocky idiots gotta idiot I reckon.

shoe glad the wind didn’t blow you away. The correct answer is butter and garlic.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

:rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
Actually, we don’t mess with butter. But we did have crinkle fries with ketchup.

As I do about MIL. OK, I’m rarely long absent, but, still, it’s how this place works - keeping MPSIMS tidy since 2001.

And Outlook, and Alexa if you use it. Yes, those are my auxiliary brains, where I record my Dr appts. And yet I still have a pile of the appt reminder cards on my desk…

We’ve been a couple for 41 years and 4 weeks, and married for 41 as of tomorrow. No, I won’t tell the elopement story yet again. But I will say that we’re not going out for dinner as we’d sorta planned last week. No way we’ll leave Daughter to deal with her grandma at this stage. We won’t be leaving the house together again till this is all over. Maybe I’ll just get a delivery of the fried chicken that he really likes. But, yeah, 41 years on Dec 9. Wow.

I was awakened by weird noises - turns out I was hearing MIL’s snoring/apnea over the monitor. I’d never heard anything like that before. FCD was sleeping hard (poor baby hasn’t had a full night’s sleep in eons) so I got up and looked in on her, then realized that I wasn’t going to sleep any more, so here I am at stoopit-o’clock on Sunday morning.

On the other hand, it’s the first morning above freezing in at least a week. And one of the last dry days for a while. (I think swampy’s rain is headed this way.) I’m hoping to get out and do a final turn around the yards to get what leaves I can, then we’ll put the sucker and the mower away for the season. Also thinking I might boil some eggs, then devil them. Everything else will happen as it happens.

Happy Sunday!

@FairyChatMom

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning and afternoon sloth is on the adgenda. I’m having a banana and a surplus doughnut with my coffee today.

It’s 34 here, so barely. But
:heart: :champagne: :birthday:HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!:birthday: :champagne::heart:

I keep thinking F1. Which to be fair, those cars can do a mean pirouette.

Its 44 here! The snow is melting!
There is church!
And football!
I’ll be sad in Feb. When its over but then it will be closer to spring.
I hate winter.
How can one move to a warmer state with no money?

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/41f with a predicted high of 6c/42f and cloudy. Weather app says “Outside, the clouds are all acting like pig fuckers. What bunch of fucking arseholes.” I disagree, it’s cloudy but much calmer than yesterday so I can deal with that.

I hope the vanilla shake was worth the night of discomfort :frowning: Did the tea do the trick? I’m a Brit, as far as I’m concerned, everything can be fixed with a decent cuppa.

I’m glad they are able to come out and finally fix your stove, but it’s a shame you have to spend so much time chasing them up. Happy birthday to your boy, I’m sure he will enjoy his quiet day and he’ll be happy to celebrate with you later.

Looks like everyone had a good time, and the grands are adorable!

If your local store does home delivery, a lot of those are picked overnight. My friend’s brother does this at one of our big supermarket chains, they used to replenish stock overnight but now a lot of those staff are packing up delivery orders instead, and with stores opening later at night, they have to spend more time restocking shelves during the day.

I’m glad you posted, we’ve missed you and you know we worry :slight_smile: Sorry to year about the upstairs neighbours, but yay for good eye news!

I am also an overthinker, and I shudder at the idea of living on impulse too. I’ve always been a planner, something I inherited from my mum, so while there’s still a bit of room for impulsive things, I do like to have some definite plans in place.

Oh, how very rude! Is your building haunted? Did the resident ghost think they could do better?

That is amazing, I hope you’re planning a perfect celebration for it.

This speaks volumes about the kind of person you are - you want to get Hubs out of the house and your first thought is how you can use that to help other people.

And after you’ve bitched about stuff, you feel better, and the mumpers are happy to know you’re doing ok :slight_smile:

We had a very good night out although it didn’t go quite as planned due to the weather. Our friends arrived mid-afternoon and messaged to say they’d checked in to their hotel, we had intended to meet them there and walk into town via a trail of local hostelries but since Storm Darragh seemed to be right on top of us, they came down to our house for a while and we went to our favourite pub for a curry, via another of our locals on the way. The rain was coming down in stair rods so it was not a night to be out more than necessary. We have a lot of trees around us so there were several branches and bigger chunks that had come down too. We heard reports of several downed trees but luckily they weren’t anywhere near us.

So a couple of beerverages and a yummy curry was had, then we got a cab into town and took our friends to a couple of our really nice pubs, finishing up at the Giffard where they were having an 80s music/drag queen party as well as their usual stuff. Much fun was had, and also some serious talk. Julie’s mum has lung cancer and a spinal tumour, due to recurring infections she’s not managed a full round of chemo in the last six months as they have to stop every time she needs antibiotics. Anyway, Julie is increasingly frustrated, her mum is increasingly difficult to deal with, and she wanted someone to vent to. So we did. Hopefully she’s feeling better about things today,

We stayed out until we were all partied out, then got a cab back and I was back in the house with tea and toast just after 2am. Got up again just after 8am to feed and medicate the cats, and clean the litter trays, then went back to bed for a bit. Didn’t really go back to sleep either, just dozed a bit and fussed Cherry who decided she wanted to snuggle.

No big plans for today, 'im indoors is in charge of dinner tonight and he also needs to sort out a big box of comics because I need the box moved out of the way by Monday night so that the curtain fitter can put the beautiful but ridiculously expensive new curtains up on Tuesday morning.

And now I need to get in touch with someone to replace the busted fence panels that were a gift from Storm Darragh. There are three panels at the front of the house and one at the back - shouldn’t be a difficult job as the panels will just slot into place but I want it done properly. Luckily there’s a guy I know from a gym I used to belong to, he has a fence business so I’ll message him as I know I can trust him.

Not at all worth it. I’m not sure what was worse: the actual discomfort or knowing that what I was doing was really stupid. The tea was settling, and the bowl of leftover beef stew at lunch gave me some energy.

S’posed to be quite warm today, so I’m determined to get a walk in. It’s been over a week, what with the cold and the tweaked back.

Here it appears they do it during regular hours, further clogging the aisles. I guess so they don’t have to pay a night differential. I dunno…

Another planner. In fact, sometimes the planning is better than the actual event being planned. Weird, huh?

Just got a call from the nurse - our regular one is on duty today and she’ll be here shortly, so that’s good.

I boiled some eggs to make deviled eggs, but despite years and years of successful egg boiling, these would not peel neatly, so they got hacked up into egg salad. Same recipe, different shape! There were 8 eggs - that should last maybe a day or two. FCD lurves him some egg salad.

I need to go to Aldi, but not on a Sunday. No freekin’ way! I’ll try tomorrow morning, or maybe Tuesday. It’s not urgent, but I hate to run out of lunch meat and I really like theirs.

The sun is out and it’s starting to warm up. I’ll shower and dress, and I’m thinking right after lunch will be a good time to attack the leaves. Thus are my plans for the next 3 hours or so.

It’s Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies, because even Small Egyptian Gods can get freaked out about Moanday.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 44F and cloudy outside. We’ll have rain showers in the morning, but the afternoon will be overcast with a high temperature of 49F. Yesterday was very, very soggy and blustery. Lots of paw washing and floor wiping happened.

JtC, I’ve been seeing pictures of lots of snow, too, and I am also a little jealous. I don’t think we’ll see much, if any, down in the lowlands this year. There might be a little up Johnny’s way next month, but the long-range forecasts all seem relatively mild and warm for now.

I like egg salad, but I add a little thinly sliced celery to mine for the crunch. I don’t make it very often anymore.

Happy Anniversary to the FairyChats!

BooFae, I’m sorry for your friend’s troubles. I’m glad you all enjoyed yourselves last night.

Nellie, that is indeed excellent news about your eye!

My daughter posted some pictures of the progress of her new home. Some windows have been installed, the roof is on, and they’ve started wrapping it with Tyvek.

It’ll be another uneventful day around here. I may or may not drag out the Christmas decorations. It’s also laundry day, so I must take care of that too.

Time to get the day started.
