(Old) It's A Brand New MMP

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 17c/63f, and rain. Weather app says “Rain fucking sucks. So does getting sucker punched and accidentally fucking farting in front of a crowd of people.” Weather app has had an interesting time of it!

Happy birthday, Oopsie!

I think that’s the important thing to hold on to - she thinks the way she does because of it, and since you’re not her generation, your mindset will be different. My mum came out with all sorts of things that you wouldn’t say in polite company, but she was the type to call a spade a spade, not a rectangular handled earth-moving device

That sounds like a suitable reward for having to do a job you didn’t want or like.

nellie sorry I missed your birthday, I missed the entire MMP yesterday! I am glad you had such a lovely day, you are the kind of person who deserves all the good things.

Hurrah! I hope it goes well and they realise what a treasure you are.

Depends a lot on where you’re staying. You’d need to be in a pretty large town/city to find a launderette here, smaller town don’t have such things. However, hotels have a laundry service, airbnb places may have a washing machine (not necessarily a tumble dryer), or you may have a BnB host who will do some for you.

Hippie Ralphie looks like he’s got that sewing machine all worked out!

I managed to miss the MMP completely yesterday, just didn’t have time to turn the laptop on :frowning: I was up early to tend to the cats, then had time for a cup of tea and a banana before heading to the gym. Came home again, more tea, shower and hairwash, then a quick lunch before going to the pet store at Merry Hell to do some fundraising for Little Paws. I was there for just over 3hrs, during which time we met some lovely pups, a police dog, and a stormtrooper. There’s a toy store next to the pet shop, they were having some kind of promotion so we also saw kids who’d been to the face-painting booth. Anyway, didn’t raise much actual cash but we have to put in the hours in-store to qualify for the rewards later.

During the afternoon there was a long thunderstorm, and accompanying torrential downpours. Luckily it was over by the time I left so I drove home in relatively decent weather. Had a cuppa, tended to cats again, made dinner, washed dishes, got changed and went out. Last night we were at a gig to see my favourite band in the entire world. Lots of friends were coming from various parts of the country and it was so lovely to see everyone. 'im indoors got a bit miffed after I disappeared off to the bar to get drinks (it’s all of two minutes walk from our spot in the crowd to the furthest away bar) and it took me nearly half an hour because I stopped to talk to people on the way!

Anyway, much fun was had, much hugging was done, we sang our hearts out, and everyone went home very happy. Buzzing too much to sleep, we cracked open a bottle of wine and watched Hundreds of Beavers, and finally made it to bed about 3am

Today should really be a day of utter slothfulness, but I’ve been up to do cat stuff, I’ve had a bath, and I have a load of laundry in the washer. That means I need to fold the stuff that’s already dry and put that away. It’s not my turn to cook today, 'im indoors is doing pulled poke, so I think I’ll at least get an afternoon of sloth provided I can turn a blind eye to the housework that really ought to be done…yeah, I can do that, no problem!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning, then afternoon sloth and the existential dread of pro handegg.

I want to get him a dumb dog, because every Brain needs a Pinky.

As a RDOS, he should be doing slackolyte training. < rolls Nat 20 for Sloth >
Glad you got some sleep.

Most people keep their furry porn in the bedroom. :stuck_out_tongue:

You are correct.

I also receive my SS on the fourth Wednesday but it has never been early. Mine doesn’t drop until mid-morning, which probably means that it comes from a California office and is sent when business opens on West coast time.

Or maybe the rest of us are special-er than you are…

Who knows? I learned long ago, tho, not to anticipate any deposit. Nothing gets paid till I see the correct infusion to my account.

Good morning all. Up early and have made the Sunday NY Times run. Next time out of the house will be for the Sunday Dinner at Texas Roadhouse (FCM, want me to ask about sour cream on sweet potatoes? ). Probably go back to the gym, I am near a personal best for exercising away calories for a week so need to do it and see if there is any result on the scale Moanday (probably gained 2lbs…). Other than that, watching pro tackleball and solving puzzles will keep me occupied for the balance of the day, am going to ignore mowage which means next Sunday I’ll be out there for a long time bagging clippings.

shoe, hope you had something to eat last night.

Coppertone, that’s happened to me on occasion, I try to always order a second pair when I get a new prescription and often keep my previous pair (my eyes haven’t changed all that much) as a ‘just in case’. Hope you can fix them or get new frames cheap.

boo fae, sounds like you had a most excellent Saturday; use today for recovery.

Not really, I keep mine…and I sense I have said too much… :scream:  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Onward into the morning. have a good Sunday all.

@scareyfaerie
Thank you for your response.
I am planning that I will not have any laundromat access so hopefully all goes smoothly. If I get in a situation I will just have to pay for hotel laundry services but that will not be likely. I hope lol.

I expect they’ll put whatever you want on your sides. I remember the time I meant to order a sweet potato, but I ordered a regular baked potato… with the honey-cinnamon-butter on it. Thankfully, they served it on the side, because ick!

I’ve disassembled the critter fountain and put the big pieces in the dishwasher (because I needed to fill a load.) I scrubbed the mat that goes under the fountain (Higgs is a sloppy drinker) and I damp mopped the whole section of floor where the fountain lives. I also watered my flower boxes - OMG, my volunteer coleus are amazing!!! They were “planted” by last year’s coleus.

FCD has gone to check the boat. MIL is still sleeping. Dishwasher is sloshing. Almost time for some chillage.

IIRC, she’s right about Texas Roadhouse serving them with a side of sour cream, as well as their cinnamon butter. Depending upon what I fix them with here at home, sour cream is an option.

Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, dinner in the crock and fixing to do KP / Sunday chores. Other than that, not much shaking at CasaRoja.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

It’s raining! Yippee!!! Hasn’t been rain in at least 3 weeks. Everything is brown and gross. The temp is supposed to drop to the low 70s, although the ac just kicked on. Made my flight and hotel reservations for L.A. T Day. Staying at the Perdido Beach Resort, aka the PBR. I dislike traveling but the family hasn’t been together in a year annahalf so it will be fun, damn it!

It’s the last day of my staycation (:sob:), but also the first day of autumn! Yay!

Today is also the start of Banned Books Week. :books:

It’s currently 66°F and overcast, with a forecasted high of just 74. Appropriately for fall, this week will be rainy with highs not exceeding the upper 70s – and it’ll only reach the upper 60s tomorrow and Tuesday. It was rainy yesterday evening/last night, and at some point in the middle of the night it rained hard enough to briefly wake me up. Outdoor surfaces are still a bit damp. There’s a slight chance of more rain later today, but mostly I think it’s just supposed to be cloudy and fall-like. Despite the low temp it’s a bit too muggy to comfortably have the windows open, but Bailey and I are both toughing it out.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! It was a very good day:

  • My BFFs did wind up taking me out to lunch: I got a very yummy French dip plus the restaurant’s famous sweet, doughy rolls, and on the way out I stopped at the connected bakery and got two cupcakes for dessert (the brownie I ordered with Friday night’s pizza will definitely keep…this place makes amazing cupcakes!).
  • The restaurant is in a shopping center with a Tiffany & Co., and Wife BFF and I decided to go in just to look around (Husband BFF opted to stay in the car). I’d window-shopped online many times, but I had way less willpower in person and I wound up buying myself a small pendant that I’d admired for a while…it was my first time inside a Tiffany’s and my first piece of Tiffany’s jewelry, and my bank balance hopes they will be my last.
  • After I got back home I alternated working on the Lego Star Wars landspeeder with sitting on the couch and watching TV: between that, spending time with my doggy, and responding to a handful of birthday messages/texts from friends and family, it was a very pleasant evening/night. (I’d looked for some live jazz/something to go, but nothing happening last night appealed to me; oh well!) I wound up finishing the landspeeder, so I rearranged Lego Corner accordingly and returned the eat-in area to “just a kitchen table” status (vs “assembly” status, which includes a folding side table being set up and a rolling cart with various extra bricks and pieces being nearby vs in the third bedroom).

It wasn’t a bad way to turn 53 at all.

Here is the completed landspeeder:

And the current Lego Corner:

https://i.ibb.co/jLDpMwQ/2024-09-21-Display.jpg

The landspeeder was wider than I expected, so it only – just – fits on one of the corner shelves (as does the piano). And Notre Dame, C-3PO, and the globe are too big to fit on any of the lower shelves. I still have room to combine some things and display one or two more sets, but I’m going to have to start checking dimensions before I buy: whatever I get next has to fit on a rectangular shelf! LOL!

The mobile groomer will be here sometime between 2-5pm…poor Bailey is about to have a tougher afternoon than she realizes. :joy: She’s overdue for a brush-out, bath, and nail trim, though, so I think we’ll both be happier when it’s all done. And she’ll still look pretty when she goes to the vet in two weeks for her annual exam.

Other than that, my only real plan for the day is to do laundry and spend a lot of quality time on the couch. But I might log into one or both work laptops this evening, just to triage the emails and tasks I’ll have to deal with tomorrow: whenever I’ve been OOO for a full week, I find that doing some prep the evening before I return is often worth it. I think I’m mostly ready to get back to “normal” this week.

I do so admire your restraint!

That’s a great picture.

One of the things I appreciate about the years my family lived in England is that I went to the British school and made some British friends: my best friend’s family had a working farm (mostly sheep and cows), and one spring I helped her with the orphaned lambs. Each year there’d be a dozen or so lambs whose mothers either died or rejected them, and every so often they’d get herded into a small shed for bottle feeding. I was 12 or 13, and remember being all “OMG they’re so freaking adorable!!” until one of them peed on my foot. :joy:

(I actually learned how to bleat pretty well while we lived there. It used to crack my mom up. I can still “speak sheep”!)

Yikes! Hopefully the place where you got them will do the repair for free since they’re so new.

:people_hugging:.

A chilly morning in the 50s, but sunny. Took a walk about mid-morning. Cool and dry and lots of fall flowers in bloom.

Egg sandwiches for breakfast.

/end report

Hurray for rain. We are expecting some starting tomorrow. I sure hope we do, hubs put some weed killer on the lawn this morning and it needs to be watered in 48 hours after application. I’m fairly sure all of our neighbors would mock us if they saw him hand watering the grass, so I do hope the weather guessers are right.

I’m so sorry, but at least you had a good week and an awesome birthday.

I love the landspeeder! and your LEGO nook.

Back when I spent my Saturdays working adoption events, I had a beat up, ratty, smelly pair of puppy shoes I always wore. I got peed on every weekend, it was just something I got used to.

Hubs found water on the floor again so I got out the instructions for the fridge to see if I could figure out a way to stop the ice from dispensing and learned/remembered that I had to push a button to turn the ice maker on. I then saw that it also had child-safe controls for the control panel and was suitably impressed.

We will shut the dispenser off for a few nights and hope that she gives up her dreams of being a world famous ice soccer player.

Bacon and egg samwiches with air fried chips sounds like a great dinner, thanks for the idea!

I had a cheese omelette-and-bacon sanger for breakfast.

MIL slept till 1230-ish. FCD is home. Nothing much going on for the rest of the day.

Oh rah - there’s a Rocky-a-thon on TV. I may have to hide in the basement.

FCM, forgot to ask about the yams at Texas Roadhouse because I was reading a NY Times article on the slow demise of Red Lobster due to profit-taking and poor management decisions. Haven’t dined in a Red Lobster in probably decades, so no idea what they are like.

And I’m starting to order my steak at “Medium” instead of “Medium Well” which has been my go-to in adulthood (in my youth I always got it Well Done because I didn’t like all that juice). May make it a habit.

FCM, your green thumb is showing, very nice flowers.

wet one, glad you got rain, we’re at about 50-60% chance of rain from Tuesday to Friday, so soccer may be interrupted. Just have to see.

Oopsie, glad you could celebrate your B’day with your friends. And from buying at Tiffany’s to building a Lego, you had quite a varied and interesting day.

And that’s it for now. Off to the gym in about an hour or so.

I’m sitting here alternating between organizing/cleaning/ridding the house with studying to give good answers for my interview tomorrow. And my throat is annoying because it’s hurting from some leftover BMS fun.

We like braunschweiger samwiches for lunch sometimes so grabbed a couple of tubes because they were BOGO. While I was checking to see if it could be frozen - mixed reviews there - I also learned that many folks like to fry it.

Have you had fried braunschweiger? And if so, how did you eat it? In a samwich or as a stand alone dish with sides?

Of course we are going to try it but it would be good to know how its served.

I eat it mostly on Ritz crackers although on bread with mayonnaise is ok too
I have never had it fried

Next time add a slice of avocado. They were made for each other!

Two votes for never had it fried.

Here’s my method, FWIW:

English muffin, toasted
butter
Mayo
Sriracha
salt & pepper
Fried egg, over easy
Bacon

Toast the muffin and butter both halves. Add a dollop of mayo to the top of the muffin. Place the fried egg on the bottom half. Salt & pepper. Add a dollop or two of sriracha sauce. Top with bacon and the top half of the muffin. Place on a plate and press down gently until yolk gooshes out. We love these.
