(OLD) It's Tax Time in the MMP!

You actually gave me the idea to do it at the produce events, so thank you! I talked to our friend on the Board and she thinks it is a wonderful idea and will be looking at thrift store books too. There is a really big non-profit thrift store on the way to town that sells very nice children’s books for 10 for a dollar, unless they are on sale so I am going to get back in the habit of stopping in every time I go to town.

I’m a big fan of giving children books, but will confess that it’s pretty self-serving. It’s to my benefit to live in an educated society and if you want someone to enjoy reading, ya gotta start them young.’

Hurray! He must feel so much better today. I hope it continues.

And right before a business trip. That really sucks!

She doesn’t look quite as nervous, maybe the lava is cooling down now…

Take the longer walk, you certainly don’t want to upset your feline overlords more than they already are.

Well of course. You are spending a large amount of money on something else andit got jealous.

That wouldn’t be saying much, GG managed to close his tail in a door this morning and pulled out a lot of tail furs trying to get away.

Go you! Seriously, I’m so glad you are only stiff and sore. I hope the insurance and repairs go smoothly.

Oh, hurray, that is wonderful.

You made some really cute stuffs!

Geeze, poor thing! Is she drinking something to replace the electrolytes she’s puking out? Some nice Greek Yogurt would probably be good to have at hand.

I ate a bad chocolate bar when I was a tween. Twas horrible and I thought I would never eat another chocolate bar again for the rest of my life. I got over it.

I loved warehouse work, it’s great, you never have to talk customers. I could go weeks without talking to anyone outside of our team. Be sure to get some good shoes, those concrete floors can take it out of you really fast.

I will keep my fingers crossed that he isn’t Mr. Hyde when you have the procedure.

We went to a nice BBQ/potluck today and I’ve gotten so good at changing the subject that I astound myself. I can seamlessly segue from contrails to allergies and trump to cats.

Happily, the hostess was also my Tai-chi instructor so I always had “How come I haven’t seen you at Tai-chi” to fall back on.

I met the park caretaker and learned that he was actually a volunteer. He owns the large camp trailer he lives in and trades cleaning the restrooms and dumping the trash cans for utilities. He goes well above and beyond, treating the park like his own yard. There is never any trash and he keeps things so nice that parents feel free to let their kids run around and play without helicoptering. Now that I know he is a “volunteer” he is on our Christmas tip list. We might not use the park often ourselves, but we appreciate the benefit to the community and he deserves thanks for it.

Back when they were building the park, the American Legion wanted to put in flagpole holders for a Avenue of Flags for holidays. Hubs and I bought Dad a flag and had him come out for the groundbreaking ceremony. It was cold and windy and rainy so the speechifying was short.

There is a small signpost at the park gate discussing the flags and all of the donor names are listed. Every year when Mom came to visit, we would go and look at Dad’s name on the list.

The walk is ready for pouring. The guy will call about the concrete Monday, and let me know when he can pour it. My too-small jacket has been returned, and a replacement and vest have been ordered. Mrs. L.A.'s new mattress arrived. Washer repairman is scheduled for Monday. I got some Thai BBQ chicken for dinner.

My credit card is melting. Going to SoCal for a week for my aunt’s funeral, new TV, new shelving unit, now a loan for the concrete, and a broken washing machine. :frowning:

I used to say “But we can’t be over-limit on the card. My wife hasn’t worn the numbers off it yet.”

But now they don’t emboss the raised numbers any more. And without the ker-chunk machine there’s no wear either. Maybe I can switch to burning out the chip.

Truth be told I’ve always been much better at wearing out credit cards than either of my wives. They were/are cheap dates. I am not and never have been.

Just got my monthly bill a couple days ago. Including the new set of hearing aids after I lost the last pair someplace over America. Ouch!

Up from naptime, I had a Vieux Carré. and I had French style chichen, muchrooms, and wild rice blend for dinner.

She flips them backwards when she gets startled(which is often), but yeah, otherwise they are upright, and pulling in signals from Alpha Centauri. And mainly she just holds whatever toy I giver her.

Sounds like a good deal, good luck! and Murph is looking good.

That I can do

She’s made a lot of progress in 36 hours, but carpet and pizza delivery still weird her out.

I remember our store having the ker-chunk machine as a backup.

That just seems so very sad.

I hadn’t thought about the carpet weirding a critter out, but it does make sense. If one is used to walking on dirt, walking on softness might be something like walking on forbidden furniture.

We have had several cats that lived their entire lives walking around on our waterbed frame because they didn’t want to walk on the shifting mattress.

I can clearly remember scraping my knuckles on them. I also remember finding one under hiding under the counter of a temp job around 20 years ago. All the younger folks gathered around to marvel at the relic of the ice age. I took a long break and cried, then smoked weed to cover up my red eyes.

Evening all. Laying in my hotel bed watching the Lakers embarrass Memphis in basketball. Ended up stopping at Jimmy John’s for a sammich, they are tasty but Jersey Mike’s is still better. The bed was made up, so I actually got maid service (most COVID-places would change out your stuff twice a week if lucky). Wireless seems to be working well.

Flyboy, I only have two credit cards, just paid them both off, so can start running up some more debt here in a bit. Washing machine breakdowns are the pits.

JtC, hope the produce books gets off the ground. Anything that increases reading among our young’ns is alright with me.

Pilot, hope wifey gets to feeling better soon.

FCM, that was a lot of work you put in, what do you plan to do with the leftovers? And glad the sale was a success.

Butters, as long as the colonoscopy doc’s first name is Henry, I don’t think you need to run and hide…glad you like the new doc.

Wheelie, looks like good progress so far. Can’t wait to see the finished product. And Yeah! on the job offer.

OK, it’s past 10pm and the Lakers are up by 26, so I’ll stay tuned till halftime then off to bed. All y’all take care.

CatGlove, I’m that the cortisone shot is doing it’s job. I hope your arms gets feeling better. I love Kroger fuel points! I try to do all of my shopping on Fridays when they have 4x points (at least they do here). And with the cost of gas right now, the discount is so important!

Taters, I hope if you do have the crud that it clears up quickly. Get feeling better!

pilot, I’m so sorry that Her Ladyship is sick. I’ve only had food poisoning once, about 35 years ago, and I still remember how miserable I felt. I hope she gets over it soon!

BooFae, it sounds like you’ve had a busy day. I hope you got some relaxation in there as well!

Oopsie, have a safe drive north. I’m glad that weather is supposed to cooperate. I can drive in a lot of conditions and love long distance drives, but I hate driving in heavy rain.

doggio, you need to let her try some pizza. Until she knows it’s deliciousness, she won’t quite get why she shouldn’t hide from it. :innocent:

dicey, weather is just weird. Though I feel bad for Mother Nature. With these weather flip flops, I’m convinced that the poor dear is going through menopause.

hippy, sometimes management need to realize that keeping their mouths shut until a customer is done talking is often better than when they try to anticipate.

pilot, mine was in high school when my boyfriend at the time made me pie that went from sitting in his backpack for an hour to sitting in mine for 2 more hours, in the Florida heat. Never. Again.

VanGo, that sounds like a rough situation with the ex. It’s a shame that she didn’t let you know before you quit the job.

shoe, warm PJs sounds like a good idea to me. I say be as comfortable as you can while working.

rc, I like the thought about gathering on the other side. There’s a song from P!nk called “When I Get There” that has that same sentiment.

metal mouse, I’m glad that insurance is paying up for you. Hope you enjoyed your slothage.

flyboy, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that they are can get it taken care of quickly.

FCM, it sounds like you did really well at the fair. I’m glad you sold so much of your hard work. And that they made so much money!

pilot, I’d probably have to agree with everyone else that Famous Dave’s isn’t a place you need to go out of your way to visit.

wheelie, the murphy bed is looking great! Congratulations on the new job! It sounds like it’ll be a perfect fit for you.

butters, I’m glad that you found a doctor that you like. He sounds like a good 'un, in spite of the colonoscopy referral.

JtC, I’m glad that I gave you the idea. I hope that lots of kids find a book that speaks to them.

Had a great time volunteering at the repair fair today. I have no ability to repair anything, so I was just checking people in. But we did pretty well for the first time we’ve run something like this - in 5 hours, we had about 35 people that came to have everything from knives sharpened to bikes and lamps fixed to having clothing and electronics repaired. I kept thinking of all the things I should have brought to have fixed. I’ll just have to remember them next time.

I also got a chance to sit on my porch and read for awhile before the wind got too chilly to stay out. It’s becoming my daily self-care and there are really few ways better for me than sitting in the sun, reading a book and (if I’m lucky) having a tasty drink near by.

I should probably get a bit of sleep, so I will say Dobranoc. Do zobaczenia jutro. (Good night. I’ll see you tomorrow.)

Let’s see…

I have a credit card with my credit union. I rarely use it.

I have credit cards attached to Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, and USAA. I use them for a storage unit and Xfinity and USAA insurance. I have my Capital One cars (REI dividends) that I use for most things.

I’m very good at paying them every month, but the REI card is taking a hit for the things I mentioned. The loan was for four kilobucks. My wife says she’ll pay off the remaining half of the concrete work, so I can pay off half of the loan. But still, the TV and washer are not welcome.

Mrs. L.A. likes to run the space heater in the bathroom all the time, and she turns up the propane heater higher than I’d like. At least we shouldn’t run out of propane since the company put a monitor on the tank… not that it matters that much now that temperatures are warmer.

Let me introduce you to a cosmic new invention called Mr. Pencil & Mrs. Notepad. They make lots of cute little baby rememberlings together.

Hey, y’all. I’m gonna be stuck in Rochester Ny for a week. Anybody got a good restaurant recommendation? I’ve already got Dinosaur BBQ on the list.

Darci slipped out of her collar and ran off. I can’t find her. :sob:

NONONONO!!!

Were you able to get her chipped yet?

Sit down and take a breath. This isn’t your fault and you will move worlds to find her. Do you think she knows what the walk back to your apartment looks like? Can you line the path with food?

Se’s chipped. She knows which apartment is " home", and I left her towel and a chunk of cheese out for her. but she’s scared. And fast.

And you are terrified and feeling guilty and responsible. I get that. :people_hugging: Are your animal control folks responsive? Could you call them and ask them to look for her? You have plenty of pics so they will know what they are looking for. It wouldn’t hurt to call the not emergency line for the police. They might be willing to keep an eye out for her as well.

On a Saturday night? Animal Control is off, and cops have their hand full with the drunks.

I always think of Jack Benny.

Yeah, I kinda figured, but straws must be grasped.

Print up a bunch of Lost Dog posters and be sure to use CASH REWARD in large red letters. Hang them on every single street sign or lamp or tree in any area you have taken her and then move on to other places. This will give you something to do as well as get you back out and looking again.

People don’t notice one sign anymore, they need bunches, so get to work.

ETA: Get on Nextdoor and post your lost dog poster there. Your community probably has a Facebook page as well. Sign up and post there as well. The more people who are looking for your sweet dawg, the more likely it is that she will be seen.

Oh, no.
Darci, come home. Please!

Daaaaarci! Come home! Doggio neesd you! Doggio, have you considered putting her security towels outside? Maybe it’d help lure her home!Just a thought

I read this as the pink caretaker and was going to ask what that meant. Coffee hasn’t quite kicked in yet. Sounds like a good person.

Cleaned the shower this morning, then I need to make lemon poppyseed breakfast cake so hubby has something for Tuesday’s breakfast. Today’s breakfast is the remainder of the scones I made yesterday, and tomorrow he has one more piece of the pear anise cake/bread to finish. Monday nights are busy, so I can’t bake then.

Wanted to buy chicken (either whole or leg quarters), but the store was out, so I bought hamburger. Today we will grill for the first time since 2021 - somehow we got out of the habit, just after buying another propane tank. So we’ve had a spare propane tank for over a year, and we need to empty the one on the grill, so that we can take it back to the store.

Also need to rent a car for our vacation, and then fill out the form for the plumber, because the hose on the shower wand is falling apart. We don’t do plumbing. Nope. Nada.

And, if I’m really brave, I’ll fill out the form to talk to the bank regarding the mortgage. So much adulting to do!

Looks like a round of spot the Spot!

Hope Darci comes home soon.
