(Old) Late morning for the MMP

Sorry for multi-posting, but I’m not quite ready for sleepy-time.

Coffee ring? Or something more nefarious?

swampy et al: Milo’s tea is, indeed, good eats drinks. It’s sweeeeeet, but I’d expect no less. A little goes a long way, but that’s okay.

Ah, I have one more work story for y’all. It’s from a coupla weeks ago when it was still quite hot outside, been meaning to share …

Saw two scrawny teenage boys in the lobby talking briefly with S.M. Maybe 14, 15 or so, tops. Clearly walked in, too sweaty to have been in a car with A/C.

But they got that swagger teens that age like to have.

Saw them each grab a drink from the cooler, and promptly head on their merry way. (No register “ding!”) Gave S.M. a quizzical look, and she said they’d come in asking for water.

(Background: We don’t have fountain drinks - you want water, you gotta buy a bottled Dasani. Can’t just give you a cup of water.)

She said quietly, “Some kid comes in on a hot day asking ME for water, I’ll let them get a small pop.”

Here’s the kicker: one got a Sprite, the other got a chocolate milk and my heart just melted.

I think it was our darling @nelliebly who described teens as “one foot in adulthood, one foot in childhood” or something like that.

This kid was definitely that.

almost like he knows how adorable he is

“Almost” ?!?

Silly woman. @BippityBoppityBoo with much love, I thought you knew cats better than that.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 73 degrees Ferret Height(22.773 Centipedes). It’s my Firday.

For some of it. They don’t use it in the UK any more, and from what I can tell most US brands have moved[1] onto alternatives. They just don’t necessarily tell you on the label.

Up, slobbing on the sofa, debating a trip to nearby town for the gooood bakery. It’s a bit of a drive, but I think I’m gonna. I’ll get some extras and freeze, if I have freezer space, and maybe I can have a potter around the town as well. I need to go out and walk for a bit after being in on the computer too long, but it’s going to be showery, so doing it somewhere I can nip inside would be handy.

  1. or mooved ↩︎

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 and becomin’ partly cloudy and then cloudy this afternoon with a slight chance of rain late afternoon. My DAWGS play the Ar-Kansas hawgs at two-forty-five p.m. Who comes up with these game times! It’s the first away game for the DAWGS. That’s pretty much the main plan of my day. It will be RDOS sloth until then. Today’s main need to feed will be lunch and I’ll make chikin nachos. That way I can achieve nappage before the game. I have a feelin’ OYKW might pronounce that I will need extra speshul sooper sekrete confession durin’ the game. This will be their first real test of the season.

MetalMouse a wise decision to cancel that afternoon game. Happy refereein’ this mornin’.

Cat_Glove the local NIN has a most wonderful ministry in an area where food insecurity is most profound. St. Pat’s long ago decided to support this ministry via food donations and NIN lets us know what is most needed. OYKW and I do the monthly monetary support cause the nuns and the other folk who run the day to day know best how to spend the money to get the most out of it. Plus the nuns love us. That sucks about the scanner. Also, you earned some points for listenin’ to that old man.

shoe I am sure Sprinkles was over the moon with all the bday goodies. Here in the southern USofA, you could turn up at a random family reunion with a covered dish and start talkin’. By the end of it all, you will somehow be related. We bought some lil’ chikin pot pies (Bruno’s was the name I think) a while back and they were quite tasty and perfect for lunch. Also, you get a :star: for gatherin’ up and organizin’. Takin’ it out can wait until the rain stops. Monkey is stylin’ in his lit up harness! S.M. is good people, but that’s already been established.

Nuts I say you deserve goodies from the gooooood bakery.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

OMG, waaaah waaaaaah waaaaaah!! What a buncha babies! Then again, I was never part of the gang “culture” so I just don’t get it. Still, buncha babies…

That’s Busi, not Grandma. :stuck_out_tongue: Those kids are 1/4 Polish and I’ll learn 'em what little I can!

I get similar monologues from my mom and have since forever. It was funny in the olden days - she’d go on for a while then suddenly realize it was “Long Distance” and she was running up my phone bill. Since that’s not an issue these days, there’s nothing to stop her unless I’m semi-rude and beg off. I guess that’s just the way some people are.

That reminds me - I saw some fruit pies in the freezer section that were the same size as individual pot pies. Maybe they’ve existed forever, but it’s the first time I’ve ever seen any.

Today starts with 64 Ferrets and will mostly stay in the 70s. I’m going to have a go at weeding again - I saw some stuff that absolutely does not belong in my garden. I’ve already run the dishwasher, and I need to gather the garbage for FCD to take to the convenience center. Dang - sounds like a day of adulting ahead!

I had the weirdest dream that there was and Eggs Up near me. It was so real, I had to check their website to be sure. Nope, tho there is one in Mechanicsville VA - close but no cigar.

But there is a new breakfast and lunch place opening near us - apparently Panera couldn’t make it so these guys are taking over the location. Restaurants have really multiplied in the years we’ve lived here. Usta be there was Bob Evans and a cafe. Then Cracker Barrel showed up. Then IHOP. Then Scramblers. Not to mention all the fast food places. You almost don’t have to wait for a table any more.

We went to Cracker Barrel last night because I had a hankerin’ for their Friday Fish Fry, but it was very disappointing. Usta be a big hunk of haddock. Then it became several smaller hunks of cod, which was good, too. Now it’s 4 small, thin pieces of some random white fish. Not at all impressive. I shan’t bother with it again. Very disappointing.

OK, almost time to let Otis out. FCD had a bad night, so he’s sleeping in. I’m glad - he has this warped notion that he needs to get up early to do stuff. I keep reminding him that he’s RDOS and he has no deadlines. I dunno about him…

Anyway, Happy Saturday!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/67f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s going to be a fucking cool, overcast day. Got it? Now, let all go and the fuck over ourselves.”

JtC a friend of mine rescued a group of battery chickens when they had also outlived their usefulness. He called them all “Doris” and they used to follow him around everywhere

Nut I say you deserve a trip out, and some goodies from the bakery. I have no decent bread in the house (haven’t been shopping since we got back from Wales) so I need someone to have quality bread on my behalf!

After a quiet week in Wales, I’m having a relativel quiet weekend too (by my standards!). We made it in time for the headline band (Kit Trigg), it was the first night of their very first headline tour so all very exciting for them. I have nothing more serious than a common cold so I’m generally keeping clear of people and am feeling a lot better today. All I’ve got left is the cough, so it’s definitely on the way out.

Today’s plan is to arrive fashionably late at ToweRok and catch the last few bands of the day. It’s a nice venue but awkward to get to by public transport so I’ll drive. We found a car park fairly close by that’s about £4 for 24hr parking and we’ve always been able to get a space in there. The headline band is one I last saw in about 2018 - the singer’s an ex-motorcycle racer who’s been out of action in both bike racing and music after extensive hand surgery. Now he’s back, so it will be good to see him again.

Right…cats to feed, hair to wash and dinner to scoff!

Bu(s)zi simply means “kisses.”

“Grandma” is Babcia.

ETA: sorry but I couldn’t let that go. Fightin’ whatnot.

Mornin’.

It’s dark, partly cloudy, and 50F. The day is forecast to remain partly cloudy, with a daytime high of 71F.

I love the chicken rescue stories. I never realized how much personality some chickens can have until I met a chicken on Kauai who ran for me whenever she saw me. She would hang out under my chair or between my legs, almost crooning. She’d lean up against my leg, too. I felt a little sorry for her because the other chickens seemed to pick on her a bit. She never ran to the other people in my group, just me. I was kind of sorry to have to leave her.

My son arrived around lunchtime yesterday with lunch. We spent the day hanging out together, and I made dinner. The dogs (especially Maisie) were delirious with happiness and spent a good amount of time chasing each other. When they weren’t chasing each other, Maisie liked to lie or sit right next to Zeus.

Everyone is still in bed right now, but I guess we’re going back to Tanaka for lunch. My husband and son have picked out what they want. I mean, the place is good, but going there for the third time in seven days is a bit much for me. Oh well, it’ll make my husband happy.

Right now, Buster and Maisie are snoozing with my son, and Zeus is downstairs with me. Well, not “with” me. He’s stretched out on the loveseat in the great room, and I’m in the den. I think he finally feels like he can catch a little shut-eye since he seems to patrol at night. I fed all three pups breakfast at 5:00 this morning, so their bellies are full, and they had their post-breakfast trip outside, too.

Well, I think I’ll finish my coffee and cruise the 'net for a bit.

Please take care of yourselves.

Good morning everyone. My shoulder woke me up early which tells me I probably overdid it stitching yesterday. I think I’ll set a stitching timer today so I stop for breaks on a regular basis.

I’ve been watching one single hummingbird at the feeder and wishing it would migrate with the rest of its flock. When I haven’t seen it for three days, I’ll pull the feeders down.

It is fall here, the forest is starting to thin out and turn colors. I’ve still got cherry tomatoes blooming so might get a few more, but I’m afraid we’ll be buying tomatoes until next summer. Sigh.

All of GDIL’s girlies have names, but I must confess I can’t tell one from the other now. They ARE super bonded to her, they probably think they are in chicken heaven and she’s St Gall.

I’m glad you are feeling better, be sure to not overdo it now that you are able to go out again.

Woooow, so smexy!

Sprinkles certainly did get an amazing birthday treat, I’m glad she enjoyed it and that you ate some of it as well.

You handled that entire experience with so much grace and love. I’m really happy that your hubs is almost done with his journey and happier that the end of the journey is good health.

Dang about the gout, we are just learning about it in this house and I feel badly for my hubs. He loves him some beef and bacon washed down with a nice IPA. Of course, those are the same things that trigger an attack for him, so chicken it is. Now that I’m cooking again, I’m going to try to move him away from having meat for every meal.

Same. It does look very good and its almost hot soup weather again.

Well, I pulled the threads for my next part last night. I should probably get the floor cleanin’ robot going then work on my piece while its working.

The trim paint in my room has finally hardened enough that I’m not worried about dinging it so I’ll be moving back in. Its going to take me a while because I’m not using furniture to hide wall dings so I’ll probably want to rearrange several times before I get it perfect. THEN I’ll hang up all of my wall art again. George will be so happy when his loveseat is back in here, the poor kitty has been forced to lay on the floor like a dawg.

Now I’m a little concerned. Time was my response would have been “Lets go!!!” but now that Hubs can’t drink beer hanging out in such a place might make him too sad. He can still have a mixed drink or a few shots of shine, but that won’t be the same.

It’s what we called our grandmothers, it’s what my mom’s been called. It’s what I’m called. Maybe it’s a regional thing from whence my grandparents came. Whatever - it stands.

FWIW, my sister’s grands call her Babs, yep, short for Babcia.

Trash and recycling are waiting for FCD to load into the truck. Dishwasher has been emptied, then I cleaned the filter and I’m now running a dishwasher wash load with a magical tablet. Shortly I will don grubby shoes and commence to weedin’.

Shiver me timbers, an’ walk me plank!

Yaar. Tis I, with a cat on each shoulder and no wooden limbs or hooks.

Supposed to be rainy which I hate. Today theres a chili cookoff with free samples. Then that church will be giving free pizzas later so Im covered for food.

The rain pocalypse is happening. Today is a good day to binge watch something. I resubscribed to Netflix. I have 12 seasons of Call the Midwife to catch up on, along with The Great British Bake Off. I have already cleaned the litterbox and swept. Laundry will happen at some point.

I think it’s cute that lots of you like Ariel’s JC name (Boom Shakalaka). I don’t care for it. She came with the name Ariel and that’s okay by me. Her dam was Boom and often horses are names with a variation of their parents/grandparents, etc.

Back at Sis’ and slept like the dead. I had an ecstatic little dog curled up with me all night to boot!

The past couple of weeks, I’ve actually used my cane to get around inside my apartment or Sis’ house and even got the walker back out to take Nelson outside. This morning, I’ve been getting around the house with no assistance! I think that getting things cleared from my system and putting some blood back in me has made a big difference. Now I can’t wait to get back home and set my place in order, then play in the studio.

Y’all have a great day!

We worked the football game last night. I was disappointed that the Flag Subscription and the Veterans’ Flag donation flyers weren’t posted. The Athletics Committee has been horning in on our revenue stream with concessions, and they’re resisting an audit. I call shenanigans[1]. The flag program is one revenue stream they can’t touch, so I’ve been pushing hard to get new subscriptions.

I got back after a stellar halftime show. They’re supposed to all have serious expressions during the show, but nothing could wipe the smiles off the faces of the eighth graders who were on the field for the Future Member Experience. There were a couple of moms who expressed concern that their baby was up in the stand with a bunch of high schoolers. I reassured them that there was no place safer for them. Besides, the Band made the Future Members feel like they were the top dogs.

Kids having fun. “Ms G is having us learn some old baby song.” - Actual quote

One day, I’ll catch the beginning.

Well, here goes nothing. My stomach has been a major butterfly habitat all morning.

Gout is a son of a bitch.

I am mostly caught up on the thread, but so much happened during the week I was away, that I’m sure I missed something important, so “Hooray! - Congratulations!” or “I’m so sorry to hear that.” As appropriate.

I’m off to make pimento cheese.

  1. I’d better get my broom! ↩︎

Just finished weeding and sending an email to the landscape company about several dead/dying plants. They all went in last November with a 1-year guarantee. I also asked for a quote to get it all remulched. So we’ll see.

After I finish lunch, I’m going out to hack back some wisteria. I cut it all waaaaay back in the spring and it’s come back with a vengeance. It tried to grab me when I rode past it on the mower!!!

I did notice when I was weeding that the ground was pretty dry. We’ve got a week of rain coming, theoretically. I hope. And for now, a little break before heading out again.

Oh, lawdy, we had wisteria in TX. Gorgeous blossoms, and then … well, only vining thing combo of showy/pretty + unkillable, worse than wisteria, was trumpet vine.

Except for kudzu, but fancy N. Dallas suburbs weren’t infested with that. We left that to the rural folk.

(We had Bradford pear trees instead. Do not get me started on those.)

Darn if I know. My Cornhuskers play away at 6:15pm. Also their first big challenge of the season. North Dakota is noted for the burliness of their defensive line which we haven’t faced yet this year. I don’t have cable so I’ll decamp at 6pm to my local corner bar and grill to watch the game. A cheeseburger and tall glass of local hard cider might be involved. :ear_of_corn::rugby_football: Go Big Red!!:ear_of_corn::rugby_football:and everybody else’s favorite teams.

Late morning, indeed. It’s 1130, breakfast is long over and the wife is on her first nap of the day. An overcast day, so not ideal for the big garage sale downstairs. They decided to have it inside, but I don’t think they did much advertising for it, so it may be a bust. But anything not sold will be donated, so at least we won’t get it back.

I had to deal with a compromised credit card this morning, which seems pretty inevitable these days. Two charges for subscriptions to Spanish language learning. While we’ll be getting new cards, they will be strictly for standby and will be cancelled in January when I close that account.

Breakfast was avocado on bagel with tomatoes and bacon.

Looks to be a quiet weekend.
